About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on RUclips videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

You have a lot to be proud of!! You have a hard working young family!!
Thats a 'goodboy'. You did 'good' "mom" growing up that boy!
Patricia Benavidez-munoz You did a good job. 👍🏽
This is such a sweet comment. It made me tear up. You are a great mom! I bet he misses you tons. 🌺💐💚
Be proud! I am so inspired by all hard work his done. Be always blessed and keep dreaming.
Everyone who does these homestead tours are so excited about the work they’ve done. They have a lot to be proud of. I can’t wait to do this when my husband and I buy property soon!
I live in a single mobile home on an acre and just starting a mini farm , glad I found a channel I can relate
I bought acre n half last month-- this is so cool to find a video like this, thanks man.
Agree, this is helpful!
I live in a single wide on an acre as well. I will definitely be following!
I finally found the perfect homestead channel in the exact position as me! I'm about to close on 1.7 acres of land, and put a single wide mobile home on it. And I plan on doing all the gardening and animals and water catchment that you guys are doing. It's nice to see an example of what someone does with the exact same resources available to myself
I like your veggie wash station good job 👏
they should re-use all that water.
👍😉
Wash station is amazing
Me too
I grew up in western nc , Hot Springs to be exact. Ran away when I was 14 to go see the world, now, all I want is those mountains...definitely beautiful
We have a pretty small homestead also (5 acres) and we've been AMAZED at all we have been able to do on such a small amount of land! We raise chickens, dairy goats and have 4 very large gardens with room to spare! Love your channel!
This was one of the best homestead tours I've ever seen!
I agree. A new sub.
I love what you have done with your Land! We started out in our dream area -- but with about 8 acres. We wanted much more space. It turned out that every lot connected to us eventually went on sale and we bought them -- 5 in all! We found our bigger space right where we sat, and now have 35 acres. We built our own house -- I'm adding onto it right now -- and the next addition will be my woodshop. Like you, I am a woodworker (cabinetmaker for 20 years and owned a furniture company for 10), and can't wait until I have a shop to work in again!
If this place gets too small for you, keep an eye on the adjoining properties -- you never know when one will come up for sale! Now I need to search your videos to see your shop. Thanks for the tour!
I love your video, thank you.
During the depression, my grandparents bought a farm and lived off of it, they would use the creek or spring to store milk and other items that could spoil. I'm not sure how they did this, but i think it was just a simple cavity surrounded by rocks where they would submerge perishable items in the water to keep them fresh.
I wish more young people would live like your family does! Back to nature, back to family-centered life. Much more peace and connection. I love that you incorporate your Daughter to duties as well. Teaches good learning skills. Loved all your hand-made items! I like to recycle things. I even make bird houses out of cleaned and washed Detergent Buckets. They hold up really well and the birds like them. :)
i was a farmer for 25 years in Western Australia now retired but i like watching off grid living and small acre farming on RUclips . welldone to all
You are so mellow and enjoyable to listen to. Such a nice place you have built up.
I think your laugh is great!
I'm definitely building a veggie washing station
Your husband is an artisan! Lovely repurposing of old wood shown in the inlaid wood patterns! These pieces you will treasure long into your senior years (assuming you live in this home that long!)...congrats on a job (many jobs actually), exceptionally well done!
thank you!
Ya'll have such a super positive attitude! Love seeing families being happy together!
Amen! my is has been "homesteading" on about an acre for years. God willing many more to come. We feed a family of (9)
I agree! Starting small makes absolute sense to me, especially when moving from a suburban/urban property. Starting small means you can set up crucial infrastructure that won't overwhelm you and that you can, in the long term, sustain. But it is amazing just what you can achieve with one and a half acres! I loved this video and I love the way in which the information was presented. The pace was just right and I really appreciate your energy and enthusiasm. What a wonderful life you are providing for your daughter! PS Love the kitchen!
This video makes me feel like packing up and doing the same!
love those wild blackberries more than the ones they sell at the store
My property has a whole lot too
Congratulations on your BEAUTIFUL HOMESTEAD! You are doing a great job SOWING THE LAND and enjoying life like our Creator meant us to live: in nature.
If one of your neighbors ever sells be sure to buy it.
I'm going to be buying a 10-acre lot later this year. I have a very clear goal and plan regarding trees and I need the room.
Hi Wes, we'd love for you to check properties. We sell vacant land up to 40 acres. Feel free to visit our website at www.landelevated.com! :)
hollow out a small section of the stream for a plunge pool. x
so many people dont realize exactly how much you can do with a small acreage!!! We are still dreaming of owning our own mini farm, and working towards that goal!!! We love following others who are "there". it helps keep that dream alive
Thank you Jason, Loraine and Penelope, love following your journey and story. :)
thanks Thomas!
Your living the dream, thanks for sharing.
Love your property! That could be my forever homestead. lol
Love how you utilize your space and recycle items for different use !
Every thing is open. I can see everything. This style is my favorite.
Love the kitchen. Love the nesting boxes. Love the whole homestead.
Thank you for the tour of your homestead.
Wonderful property with a creek! We grew up in a subdivision but were blessed to have a creek! Lots of fun memories! Love the kitchen style and build. Your daughter seems very happy and bright-eyed. Enjoy your sweet family and farm!

Your family and your homestead are such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your lives with us.
How wonderful! Just 1.5 acres and look at all you have accomplished so far. You give me hope for starting small, if I can just find that right piece of land with not too many rules about what one can and cannot do, build, raise! Thanks for the tour!
Thank you for taking us around your homestead !
Wonderful video , in the Garden is where everything began .....God Bless ..

I'm so happy for you and your family, welcome to WNC , I'm also here nice to meet you neighbor.
Thank you so much for the tour! I can see the lay of your land now. It's amazing how far you have come, but when you work hard, you get that! Many Blessings to you and the girls from NE Missouri!
I LOVE YOUR HOMESTEAD. I LOVE THE CREATIVE AND ARTISTIC FLOW THAT SHOWS IN EVERYTHING ON YOUR HOMESTEAD !
I love the woodwork on the walls. :)
Yes, efficiency simply for efficiency's sake with the rain barrels. I like it.
You are doing a great job! Especially on 1.5 acres. Keep living the dream!
What a gorgeous property and love what you have done with it in such a short amount of time.
Holy guacamole- that is NOT a mobile home any longer! Now I get why the Hollar’s chose to reno their single-wide. Your work in the home is absolutely a work of art. Well done. Wish I could have you do my kitchen!
WOW. You're a thoughtful, talented and skilled wood worker and builder.
Found your channel watching Justin when you were building their greenhouse (beautiful I might add). It is hard to believe you weren't always a wood worker, Your so creative. Thank you for this tour, sharing a look at your home, garden, chickens and beautiful land you are rebuilding...have a Blessed day.
We just love your homestead, the end of the day in the garden is giving me a picture-perfect family connection. You rock my young man.
Lorraine, you're so lucky that your husband is not only handy, but a talented carpenter as well.
Your home is beautiful, your homestead! You've got the whole package and it's awesome! God Bless you!
I love that place !! Jason you did a great job !!! Both of you have done a great job 😄😄🇺🇸🇺🇸
Your family is so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your journey.
When I was little I used the stream in my backyard to have a mud bakery. There was a small pine tree that produced tiny pine cones that used for decorations. So wonderful that your daughter has a space to call her home and play!
Beautiful property. Jason you are an amazing artist. Love the kitchen. Wood work is amazing. Love your videos. Thank you for sharing.
Jason, you're getting so much better at this! I enjoyed the tour. Lorraine, your enthusiasm is palpable. I love your kitchen!! The shelves keep you honest, lol.
Nice family and beautiful homestead. Great effort brought you a nice little paradise.

Your family makes me happy.
AAAAAH!!! Bravo- that was the most heartwarming- informative and inspiring video I have seen on a Homestead God Bless you and your family Jason
It's so beautiful I don't know how you could ever leave.
Jason, you guys are so intentional in your approach and I love your sweet homestead!! Blessings for future growth on the land!!!
That inlay work is just stunning on the barn door and island front
The combination of family life and the wholesome togetherness that comes from a shared world view, closeness to Mother Nature, simple living, sustainability... is a wonderful thing to behold 😀🙏
You have the most beautiful and efficient homestead on RUclips. I just love it!
What a beautiful home and homeSTEAD! Amazing to see how everything is DIY and just a complete vision of what your family envisioned. We have less than 1/4 acre, and are so inspired to plant more crops within the space we have to feed our family and more!
I love how everything is organized and in it's place. Very nice set up
Wow, this is just great, starting small and with God's Grace, you never know what it will be tomorrow. You've got a lot going on, doing your own construction of your home, growing your own food, very ambitious. Blessings to you, guys. Great inspiration.
8-12-19, Jason, wife, & daughter, this is my first time watching you're video you and you're wife seem to be very nice people, just like cog hill farms, and life on beagle road, so I'll be starting to watch you more often, good Luck, & god bless you.
I love everything you guys did on your homestead. Great Job! Wish your little family the Greatest success! I really enjoyed the video and a wonderful story.
So glad we found y'all! I enjoy watching you on Justin's channel also.
If anyone has a problem with the “meatbirds”... Those are the best treated meat birds in the world... I’m jealous and would trade 4 weeks of paradise for the lifetime of misery I experience everyday.
Cool video your home is gorgeous!
Their area looked cramped based on how many of them there are :(
That’s what they’re here for.
Love.your start small plans! We are in the same mindset. We do want more acreage eventually, but the 2.5 we found last year is more than enough to begin with! You guys have made a ton of progress and it all looks great :)
You guys are so determined. Love all you do and watch all the time. God bless.
Wow she is so cute. Love the creek.
Kudos to you for starting small, I'm starting on a third of an acre in an HOA, not ideal of course but I have lots to learn before biting off more than I can chew. Just like you guys I have a desire to be successful at this endeavor, and don't want to do nothing while I'm waiting to get a bigger piece of property. So for now I feel blessed to learn and my small little space 🌻
LOL my "homestead" is currently my back yard, which is about 200 x 60 feet! But I've got 12 potato plants going strong, plus a bunch of buckets of veggies on the deck, and plans to put in a fence, get a dog, and eventually chickens. Why not? Start small and learn how, then trade up later.
@KCMG Farm ,
The longest journey in the world begins with the first step ..
Learn as you go and eventually you will arrive at your destination. One step at a time.
I’m right there with you. Our 800sqft house sits on .16 acres. 2 yrs of container gardening to grow something. Next year we’re putting in 2-4 small raised beds to grow more food in. My dream is to have a small self-sufficient homestead. Glad to have found this channel.
Bloom where you're planted, I always say!😍
Lovely place, lovely family, I first saw you over at Justin Roads place and came over to check you guys out, great channel.
I love it! This is great! I love to see people leave the “city of angels” for all the right reasons and succeed! God bless you and your family!
Cannot stop thinking about that beautiful altogether kitchen. Jason, your craft man ship is stunning. Glorious, beautiful family; you, Lorraine, Penelope.
That kitchen is absolutely gorgeous! And you have done such a great job on the rest of your place.
You guys have the most beautiful & efficient 1.5acres! Way to go on living the dream!💛
Love, from Nc
Shalom! Your Farm is beautiful and your family is too. Congratulation to you Jason, Loraine, Penelope and Critters. Thank you all and be Blessed!
God Bless all Homesteaders hard working farmers.
I love your homestead!! Its so clean tidy and organized! I love what you have done to you home. Lorraine your kitchen is amazing and I agree, when we have doors, as humans, we tend to stuff things inside to deal with later. Your home looks so spacious!
