Ross is a piper, composer and musician who studied with Duncan Gordon and who performs with 'The Treacherous Orchestra" and Dougie Maclean's band 'Salsa Celtica". This performance in Aberdeen Music Hall was part of a charity concert organised by Paul Anderson to raise funds for the 'Friends of ANCHOR' unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, who supported Paul with treatment in 2018.

Ross! I was always taught to play notes fast, wasn't always to play music, to make noise wasn't always done well or with control... That performance was probably the fastest, most controlled thing I've ever heard. You didn't let it run away from your fingers and mostly kept your pressure in check everything considered. Muso's like yourself make other people want to pick up their instruments. Well done.

Possibly only a piper can truly understand just how good that was …..
Normally to create such a sound you have a „band“ of 4 ot 5
    That equals 40 or 50 fingers …
This sound was produced with only 10 ….
    Amazing ❤

Anybody ever come across Ross indicating what gear he uses, specifically his chanter reeds? Without suggesting that stuff figures significantly into his virtuosity, his high-A's are strikingly sharp and clear in a way I never match. No doubt his precise pressure control and finger placement also play a big factor, but I'm just wondering.

It looks like an R T Shepherd "Orchestral" chanter, which is tuned lower than a standard band chanter (Shepherd Mk III or G1), closer to B flat :-)
