  • The deadliest Ebola outbreak on record killed more than 11,300 people and infected nearly 30,000 people in West Africa between 2014-2016. Ebola was first identified in 1976, but it had never been seen on such a large scale.
    Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) launched an emergency response when the outbreak was confirmed in Guinea, followed by Sierra Leone and Liberia, but no antiviral treatments nor vaccines existed. We had few tools with which to fight such an enormous outbreak.
