It's worse when your disable and know it's almost impossible to emigrate with a disability
That’s what I was gonna say I’m trans, but I’m also severely disabled so I have to stay in the state because this is the only country I can get the benefits that I need to survive. Not thrive just survive.
Would the Sanctuary states in US still be safe?
Yep. Trans guy, bedbound. Stuck in increasingly extreme Iowa, with literally no ability to move elsewhere. This country is getting scarier by the day.
@@samanthapatrick4345I would say it depends on which one. I'm a patient advocate for a nonprofit (with first-hand experience navigating survival on disability) and I have been assisting a trans guy on Lex whose moved a few times and currently in a sanctuary city/state;
Without disclosing too much personal info I will say that his treatment was/is *not* good there. It's in the south and apparently their only policies are very weak at best. Honestly a dem city in Texas have people doing better.
From what I know, the Pacific Northwest or more left states northeast are the better ways to go for *real* rights, access to care, and protection.
TLDR: Do your research and don't just go off of the label.
I hope that helps.
I fell asleep with that feeling, but I woke up realizing that this is my home. I've lived my whole life here and I'll die here. If that means dying fighting fascism, then I won't be the first generation of my family to do that. But I'm not going anywhere willingly.
Where is the fascism? May someone elaborate? And not just give vague happenings and events.
Amen. I hate what is happening but if everyone flees who will be left to oppose what is happening? I'm not sure that there is a lot we can do as individuals but, as a group, we can surely do better fighting together than we can fleeing alone.
@@TheDiabeticGameMaster I begrudge no one for leaving. It's honestly probably the better idea. And it's a decision a lot of us will have to wrestle with in the coming months.
For me it's almost like being one of those old people who finds themselves living in the path of a coming volcanic eruption. I know why people are evacuating. I know it's a volcano. But this home is mine. And even if no one has ever fought a volcano and won, I will still stand here .
Maybe that's stubbornness. Maybe that's crazy. Maybe it's brave and I'll beat the odds. I dunno. But I've made my peace with this decision.
I hope everyone else, regardless of what they wind up doing feels secure that they've done what's right for them and the people close to them.

Belgian here. My heart goes out to you. Sadly, this shit is everywhere. The far right and centre right won massively recently in a general election and transphobia was one of their big campaigns points. I am just so sorry. I hope you live to witness a country, a world that values you fully.

If you’re left leaning governments didn’t treat the money printer like a infinite pay check, put logical border controls, and let builders build you would not need to be in this situation.
My husband and I both had nightmares last night about keeping our family together and safe. Our collective mental health is going to be put under a lot of pressure in the coming months. PLEASE remember to take care of yourself and disengage when you need to.

@@andrecarpenter2432 We have seriously considered it in 2016 and in 2020, and cannot afford to with our family. We would also be abandoning other trans people in our small community who also can't afford to move.
A lot of these other countries are also dealing with their own lurch to the right, so there isn't a permanent 'safe haven' anywhere. There is only safety where there is community that looks out for each other. We have to make it safe for ourselves.

Your whole family needs therapy.
Everyone keeps telling me how important this election is but it never feels like the Dems are acting like it's the most important election. All the Dem governors doing that Leslie Nelson "Don't panic" speech really has me looking for a way out of this country.
It's cause all the Dems know so long as Trump is Trump, they just have to not be that, and they will be the "better choice" or "good guys". It's why they also attack socialist options, because they know they'd be popular. It's the same shit this stupid country has been doing since the beginning.

I'm so fed up with progressive social media holding Biden as this lion when yesterday's debate showed how I should getting ready a move to Canada. And yes I already have a plan. Seriously, Biden is the lowest bar. We didn't need "at least he's better than Trump", we need way ahead of the curve.
He’s not better. Different, not better. Democrats are throwing this election on purpose to consolidate power later.
@@mzaite can you explain what you mean by that, please? How would deliberately losing this election consolidate power later?
Not sure what the "progressive" social media you have been paying attention to, but everything progressive I have seen over the last 5 years has been dogging him for being a liberal or even conservative. Biden is a middle of the pack Democrat, having some progressive views but still generally center-right. I will admit, however, that he has been more progressive than I had anticipated back in 2020. We really need to do something about that SCOTUS, though.
No real progressive has been holding Biden up as good only liberals have which aren’t progressive

It's all just a corrupt game. It's not the first time the DNC has taken a dive in order to win in congress where the real money is to be made, just like in 2000 when Gore gave up. Dems had a bumper crop of Congressional seats to "Oppose" the Bush administration. With all that sweet lobbying.

Yeah, rough debate, what a mess. You're welcome to come up here to Canada Jessie!
Oh and meant to say the other day congrats on the engagement!
Doesn't Canada have shit politics to? Or are y'all working on that?
@@Mendips We're not perfect. Feels like US influence is spreading up here. I'm glad we have healthcare, but it still could be better. I admire Nordic countries. As for politics, surprisingly even though we also use First Past the Post, we haven't quite devolved into a 2 party system. Although since the parties on the right merged 20 years ago, it has been tough to fight back. Harper was in power for too long. Trudeau is doing ok more recently, but could be better. Other than that, some of our provincial politics does have some issues.
It's interesting that you picture yourselves as the land of the free. Because without healthcare, you're often not free to leave a job you don't like, as it might be a life and death decision for you.
It feels like the US is an experiment in extreme capitalism. There are so many problems, but they all compound each other to the point where it's hard to know where to even start solving them.
Overall I'd take Canada over the US any day. I feel so bad for my US friends. No offense, but we kind of see you guys as sliding towards theocracy. And certainly you're nowhere near a democracy. (I do wish our voting system could be more representative as well)
@@Mendips Basically yes, but nowhere near as bad as the U.S. Like, the medical system is struggling, but the majority of Canadians still support universal healthcare. Gun control will never be nonexistent like in the U.S.
Good luck to all my trans brothers and sisters in America if Trump gets back in. All members of the LGBTQ community should fear him coming back.
I'm British and genuinely scared if there's another term
Hell, I feel this even as a non-American, with American friends and partners, many of whom are trans. It’s fucking scary
I can't leave. I don't have the means. But for anyone who can go somewhere safer, I can't hold it against them. I know if I had the ability I'd go too
I can’t hold it against them, but I’ll still resent them.
@@mzaiteresent people for trying to protect themselves?
@@nickythehickey Yes. I resent who I like, and if we’re still pretending this is a democratic republic, people leaving means even less of a chance for any improvement for those of us who have no actual ability to leave.
My ability for resentment is strong. Especially with all the freed up space from the slow death of hope.
Honey. 10 minutes into the debate we switched over to Miss Coco Peru's shopping excursion at Five Below.
Yeah, I watched the new season of the Bear. Apparently this debate was that much of a trainwreck?
I'll bet the staff member who was prepping and roleplaying to get Biden ready for the debate is at the moment writing is resignation letter.
He should have inoculated the audience about his "cold" and his past stuttering and how stress affects his speech. Two sentences, no elaboration, that would have popped the cork out of the proverbial champagne bottle and broken the ice.
Although it seems dire, let the news media do the heavy lifting.
Admit weakness? A politician? Not likely. He chose to go down in Nixon vs Kennedy flames. Assuming he knew where he was….
Well I'm starting on my Irish citizenship
I was looking into this too... where and how would one go about it?
Do what you gotta do to stay safe. Those of us that do stay.... hoooo you better believe we're gonna fight. "Fist in the air in the land of hypocrisy"
I do not know if there are trans friendly policies everywhere in Canada, but many states in the United States have trans friendly policies: Michigan, New York, Oregon, and Washington are a few of them.
That is spot on. My wife and I were already planning "just in case" scenarios in if we need to flee, and this only emboldened our efforts.
Going to Canada would be a bandaid - they have enormous country risk with the US.
What
Considering canada's prime minister is justin trudeau, that's hardly an upgrade.
Said that in 2016. Actually do it this time
That is the same research that I to been doing research on too Jessie.
Taking a page from the book "Democracy for Realists" the only 2 things that actually matter are how well the economy performs in the election year and how long the incumbent party has controlled the white house. So the debate doesn't mean that Biden is any less likely to win.
As a trans Canadian I wish you luck
Me more specifically: How to stay where I’m currently living.
In an intelligent nation a single debate should have no effect on your vote.
An intelligent nation. Perhaps you haven't been paying attention to US politics over the last couple of decades. Just today, the Supreme Court threw away 40 years of precedent that said the expert opinion of an administrative department should be controlling in a lawsuit. Now any judge can decide any drug the FDA passes or any environmental rules the EPA sets is just wrong.
Instead this debate makes me wanna not vote
@@phlippyexactly, it only proved the Not-Trump side isn’t interested in putting any effort in.
in an intelligent comment section you’d realize the point is that neither option is good
@@nickythehickey and that’s why America is ruined. You think apathy will change anything?
You deserve Trump.
This is where you all start writing to whoever you need to with the following: "If President Biden needs medication to do the job and make effective debates, come out and admit it, otherwise this is over."
As the parent of a trans person and a couple LGB kids, I'm right there with you.
To be fair I think that was basically everyone's reaction.
Yep. Working on it hard for a year now.
Do you need a roommate? I swear if Trump is elected I am moving to another country.
We’re cooked. Get out while you still can.
we are so cooked
Don't get me wrong, this Canadian will welcome you, but I worry we all have to get a lot further than that.
as a Canadian I'm starting to think I understand how the French felt in the early 1920s
For me it’s “How to move to Vietnam.” 🤣 🇻🇳
We've been researching that for a while. Meanwhile, hoping for the best
If you're serious about moving up hear, and if you can speak French, check out Quebec's immigration rules too - They have a separate set of criteria that's easier to deal with in some ways, but it's for francophones only. (Once you get here, you can choose to live in any province, if Quebec doesn't work out)
My family has been looking at options for Canada since 2017. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but my dad's GPA was born in Canada, so we might have so claim. Also, as a librarian, it is my understanding that visa hurdles for this job are relatively minor.
Black, Hispanic, and Arab people: First time?
okay the debate did not go well but we have two choices that the dumpy and Biden therefore we only have one choice
Across the pond and had considered watching the debate, but I think I'll just run with this summary.
Sorry and thanks for the content x
ACCURATE 💀 WHO ELSE WAS SCREAMING AT THEIR SCREEN THE WHOLE TIME?
Yeah. There is no way to vote ourselves out of this at this point. The Dems must choose a new candidate or implode.
Canadian here, it's very likely that our very own Timbit-Trump gets elected in the next year.
My reaction was to mill out 30 more 80 per-cent receivers
😆
But in all seriousness, the despair is palpable even here in Canada
