Great review, how does the FOV difference feel in the headset vs the quest 2? Just preordered one in the hopes of feeling less boxed in, just wondering what to expect

My main issue with the Quest 2 was that my unit often (very often) didn't startup properly, I was stuck with a black screen a few seconds after the unlock screen showed up. Pico can deliver cheap headsest with pancake lenses, color camera and you can change IPD in more steps than Quest2. These are arguments strong for Pico. Quest 2 had lot problems as bad or nothing quality control. I had 4x quest 2 headsets and 3 from these was with bad lenses - with failures as black spots inside lenses, reflect rainbow was broken, image was strong blurry, strong god rays etc. Only 1 from 4 was OK. Really terrible and I am thinking to changing on the Pico.

Great video. As a sim racer I have two questions. 1) How does the pico 4 compare with reverb G2 as that was my last owned headset. 2) Is the headset more comforatble than the reverb and is the visuals on par or better than the G2 (if using pico 4 through virtual desktop or with cable)? I hear pico 4 has a bigger area of clarity (reverb has mega small sweet spot?) pico is 80grans lighter. Does it feel like you could wear lot longer than a reverb?
if you already have the G2 I wouldn't buy the P4, but all in all I would prefer the G2 because it has direct connection to PC via displayport, much better quality
@@voodoodevr-en what anout comfort. I hear lots of you influencers hyping the comfort, but quite a few consumers already reporting comfort is horrid. How can you both be so different? So as per my other original question. Is Pico 4 comfort much improved over the g2?

The advantages of Reverb G2 is the brightness, (color?) and uncompressed low latency PCVR, doesn't run out of battery. Pico4 has better lenses, better FOV, and lighter headset part (when you subtract the rear battery), though G2 is relatively light and comfortable too compared to other headsets. However, if you count in having to use external headphones on the Pico 4 for acceptable sound quality, vs G2 speakers, then the comfort argument is not so clear anymore. Controllers and tracking are advantage on Pico 4 in terms of tracking, ergonomics, haptics. On G2, you need some special batteries for it to work properly or to not burn through million AA batteries. Not sure about controller support in SteamVR on Pico4, but on G2 the support is pretty bad and you have to do a lot of custom binding with the awful SteamVR binding UI. I mainly play Beat Saber on the G2, and the brightness, colors, comfort, audio and native PCVR all make it great experience even if small tracking volume don't make it ideal for competitive play (I have no problem finishing highest end maps though). However, I'd say Pico 4 is otherwise much preferable for general VR gaming.
Hi! I have a question. I understand that Pico 4 in standalone mode is not compatible with KAT VR C2, but if I conected Pico 4 by a cable with my PC and open SteamVR to play games, is KAT C2 will work with my PC, Steam VR games and Pico 4?
You mention that you can use USB-C to 3.5mm dongle DAC as a solution for headphones. While it may work, my concern would be the added power draw. If it already does not have much battery life, having to power a DAC may cut into that battery life as well. Bluetooth audio is not a solution, as that not only sounds worse and may have latency problems, but that would sap battery life too. Considering the low cost of the part, it is unfortunate to not include it in the unit. That said, the pricing is pretty competitive, and being able to attach an external battery bank is nice.
The sell adapters that have a USB pass through, so you can charge while using headphones. I brough one for my PICO 4. The device itself (Pico 4) is so so.
I need your expert opinion between a pico 4 for 550 or a reverb G2 for 300 (cad). I want to play pcvr but don't have a sutible router for streaming currently and no USB C on my rig but I do like the idea of wireless play. The tracking is the only thing really stopping me from pulling the trigger on the G2 as i've heard so many mixed reports but if its good enough for blade and sorcery, boneworks ect it would be much easier than importing the pico. What do you think?
If you already have a high enough spec PC I suggest go for reverb G2 since it's cheaper so you don't pay for a processor chip that you won't use. Plus G2 has the same audio as Index which sounds great. I don't like G2's controllers, though, and if you wanna swap them to Index controllers it would be another huge investment.
I'm using a G2 (1st Gen) and I would say it depends on what games you'll play. I would say the G2's tracking (in my experience) is acceptable, but I did notice it's not as good as Rift S (my first) when it comes to spaces above, below and behind the back. Also, it has a lot more issues when trying to put the controllers in front of the other like in FPS games. I am used to it and am used to angling my hands to make it work somewhat, not for all guns though. And because you mentioned BnS specifically, I would say it's serviceable BUT, I can never use weapons like spears or any other long weapons where the hands are far apart. Not sure if this problem is seen in other inside out tracking HMDs, but for the G2 I am using, it's definitely a problem. The biggest positive for the G2 is the display and the direct cable connection though, so if you use it for media viewing, this might be especially impt. I think it was MRTV who very briefly compared visuals between headsets (can't rmb which vid but I think it was the FOV one?) and said that G2 is still kinda better in clarity compared to the Pico 4.
seems like any reviewer right now is having issues with direct pico to steamvr streaming.. I hope this is because pico 4 has not publicly released yet and that steam will update to support the neo 4 and pico will update to bring out their new software UI as shown in their press event
It will be perfect for me because i have a splitter for audio and charging and i also use wireless Virtual desktop already on my quest 2. Guess I'll have both for a while and see which is better for daily use. Thanks for your vid 👍
Mine is being returned due to horrible Mura. That, along with some pixel inversion, make for terrible visuals and oddly enough a rather obvious SDE. I will try another one this weekend hopefully. The controllers are awesome though.
Hello, Thank you for your review. Can I use apps like sidequest? I want to play VR games as Return to Castle wolfenstein, Half life 1, Quake, Doom3. These are uploaded to the Q2 via sidequest app. Is something similar for Pico 4? Thanks
Afaik the SDK is different, I've heard some developer that port their app to pico and he have to edit the control or something so you can't simply use quest app using sidequest.
@@randomcommenter3726 Thank you. Maybe quest apps are based on Oculus SDK in Unity3D and for pico I can do app with Open XR. App based on OpenXR could be available for all headsets

@@gidnoot3140 Depends on the power bank you use. The best would be one with 20W and PowerDelivery support. 20W is the maximum that the Pico 4 supports, but less is also ok, but 10W should be a minimum.

We couldn't focus on the content because of your constant moving your center of focus. the whole menu is on the screen. Why the erratic head bobbing? other than that i like your reviews. thanks.
Nothing really of both. The Pico 4 only has one color camera (instead of 2 like the Quest Pro), but the Pico 4 uses the other 4 black/white cameras and uses the information to turn the image material from the one color camera into a "3D" image. That's why you see this wobbling sometimes. It's really good from what I've heard, but real 3D is of course even better.

I don't agree with respect to the finger prints, I think it looks beautiful just the way the front is designed and you can easily clean it with a micro fibre cloth
14:18 this is what you call "i can see everything sharp" ?? does vr community have an extremely low standart for sharpness or something? that's blurry af!
the lenses pretty much zoom onto the displays, which makes the resolution look alot lower than it actually is, so yes, the standard for sharpness in vr is very low.
Just unboxed my Pico 4, and my first impression was... DISAPPOINTED 😭😭😭 The face cushion is so stiff, it pressed my face much more than the Quest 2, I didn't feel it light at all. It also left ugly marks on my face just after a few minutes of play. Terrible. 😣 There was no tracking at all until I set the boundaries, it made me feel dizzy. The worst bug: if I shake my head quickly, the whole scene moves with my head like there was no tracking at all. This doesn't happen with the Quest 2. Very annoying... The color pass-through is also very bad. Objects that are 1.5m tall were displayed as flat on the floor... The depth sensor is clearly missing, without that it's a mess. Overall, the Pico 4 is a huge disappointment, I think I'll cry.... And will sell it as soon as I can. 😞
Are you blasting a pulsed light infront of yourself while checking tracking.? Looks like your standing infront of a TV or a monitor or maybe a spotlight?.. when looking at the glow in the Pico4 visir.? 20:00 How do you think inside out tracking works? pulsed light from lighting equioment where most are using LEDs nowadays, and screens, sunlight and general light with a lot IR.. is contaminating a lot., as the inside-out-tracking is based on IR. maybe not the ideal way to test IR tracking, if you actually have a spotlight flooding you in direct light.

Which is the best VR all you tested so far?
Great review. No videos about finger tracking?
It will be perfect for me because i have a splitter for audio and charging and i also use wireless Virtual desktop already on my quest 2. Guess I'll have both for a while and see which is better for daily use. Thanks for your vid 👍
Mine is being returned due to horrible Mura. That, along with some pixel inversion, make for terrible visuals and oddly enough a rather obvious SDE. I will try another one this weekend hopefully. The controllers are awesome though.
I'm also returning mine to Bestware... :-(
How was the new one?
@@RayFaye Third one had no mura
Hi voodooVR, can you please confirm if Echo Vr (Arena) is playable on the Pico 4 via Virtual Desktop please, thankyou very much
will work with virtual desktop
Please compare the display side by side with Q2, like you did with Q1 and Q2.
24:30 if you use Bluetooth for headphones does it actually work, or is it half a second delayed like the terrible implementation on quest 2?
this
With my Pico Neo 3 Link i had absolutely no latency with my €58 Bluetooth 5.2 headphones. I don't know about Bluetooth 5.0 headphones, but anything over Bluetooth 5.1 (the maximum the headset supports) should be without any noticeable latency
@@cyantox Are you still using the Neo 3 link? I'm tossing up between this (as it has DP), the Pico 4, or Sony have announced they *may be supporting PC with PSVR2 (that's a no brainer!) Have you tried the Pico 4? I'll be playing mainly via Steam, HL Alyx etc
Cool review ! =) Is that a NIntendo VirtuaBoy on your right ? I want a review on that ! lol ^^

do you have any info on the by PIMAX Crystal OR is it too good to be true

If this had included a direct PCVR video connection it would have been perfect.
yup. this is the most painfully wasted potential the VR market has seen in years.
@@nb8c_fd seriously. I guess we are left hoping Valve will save us. I'm thinking the decision to not have direct video is meant to drive higher sales in the Pico store.
@@sproket343 they'd make a lot more money from PCVR enthusiasts than from people buying chinese clones of games on their store lol.

Here is a video of the shaking head bug of the Pico 4: ruclips.net/user/shortsjWEsAROhJXs
It won't charge when tethered via cable for pcvr?
it charges, but only with the 5W from the PC USB. The Headset uses more than 10W when you use it, so it gives you a bit more (play)time, but it will loose charge.
@@cyantox But cant you use a powerd usb port or smth?
@@cyantox is this also true when charging from power bank?
@@gidnoot3140 Depends on the power bank you use. The best would be one with 20W and PowerDelivery support. 20W is the maximum that the Pico 4 supports, but less is also ok, but 10W should be a minimum.
I like the info you provide, But I'm not sure if you are aware that while you are showing the menu and pointing out things, you move your head to follow the pointer instead of using your eyes. We couldn't focus on the content because of your constant moving your center of focus. the whole menu is on the screen. Why the erratic head bobbing? other than that i like your reviews. thanks.
Is the pass through camera 3D or 2D?
Not 100% sure, but it's probably 2D because iirc there is only 1 pass through RGB camera
@@popiposo Yes, I just watched a video on the Quest Pro which definitely has 3D color pass through. Thanks for your answer.
2D
Might have to get this instead of the crystal/12k. Those pancake lens really mean a lot.
the index fov values I guess that's with the lenses as close as possible to your eyes right
is there bigscreen vr app on there?
There is no display port...thats suck. :( I was hoping pico 4 was the same as oculus quest 2 but better.
uh it is. 4k resolution, light weight, better controller tracking, color pass through....
As a plus, if it has great customer support that listen im in. Update from Meta on my quest 2 has rendered it useless and is now a door stop....Looking forward to this product as a good alternative!
Wow.. Already finished? You'll get 100% retention score for my view LoL :) Thanks for the video!
Going with the pick pro, hopefully the mic is better, if not I’m happy with my modmic lol
Got mine on pre order from german amazon. 49 dollars to ship. Will be her between the 24th to the 29th. Was wondering does it have its own web browser like the quest has.
Yes, it does
Can you test side quest on the pico 4? I would like to know if you can play attack on quest on the pico 4.
Hopefully VRChat comes to the pico 4 soon
Virtual Desktop is coming to the pico so VRChat will work fine.
@@dreamer5234 No I want it natively on the Pico 4
@@ItssKavii2505 yeah, it would be nice
@Hello Yeah that's what I'm thinking
@Hello not really, it depends on what kind of VR SDK was used: there is OpenXR and Oculus/Meta proprietary SDKs. In case of the latter the app won't work on Pico (and I think it's true for most VR apps)
Is it possible to get all the Dr Beef side quest ports working on the Pico 4??
not sure yet
@@voodoodevr-en If it is possible I would love for you to make a video about it. I'd imagine there would be many people curious about this.

@voodoodevr please clarify. Is it difficult to use a 128 GB storage variant?
is the passthrough stereoscopic or mono 2d view
2D. It only has one color passthrough camera, so no stereoscopic.

The side light leakage is bad. I wear glasses so it's pretty bad... Can literally see the reflection of the light source behind my play space in the lenses.
Easy fix is to put a foam wedge between the headband and the faceplate foam surround. Worked for me.

You won't be able to power the PICO 4 with an external battery and have audio at the same time with a USB to Audio.Jack adapter for long PCVR sessions. The only option is Wireless PCVR without headphones and external battery or with headphones without an external battery. If you use Bluetooth headphones, mind the delayed audio or image. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

if you use it to connect ot the PC - just use the bluetooth on your PC for Audio - USB-c for Powerbank or something else on the headset

14:18 this is what you call "i can see everything sharp" ?? does vr community have an extremely low standart for sharpness or something? that's blurry af!

Just unboxed my Pico 4, and my first impression was... DISAPPOINTED 😭😭😭
The face cushion is so stiff, it pressed my face much more than the Quest 2, I didn't feel it light at all. It also left ugly marks on my face just after a few minutes of play. Terrible. 😣
There was no tracking at all until I set the boundaries, it made me feel dizzy.
The Quest 2 facial cover was horrible as well. It´s a minor problem, a third-party facial cover will be on market soon.

How do you think inside out tracking works?
pulsed light from lighting equioment where most are using LEDs nowadays, and screens, sunlight and general light with a lot IR.. is contaminating a lot., as the inside-out-tracking is based on IR.
maybe not the ideal way to test IR tracking, if you actually have a spotlight flooding you in direct light.
