No matter how much people claim the link cable and air link are good now... Virtual Desktop has been the *only* PCVR option to net me good results even with Quest. So this isn't really a downgrade. As it is the integral experience of using any standalone headset out right now is highly dependent on third parties.
I have used them both, but. I must say the airlink is better in terms of "just slap on the quest and off you go". It is really that quick and easy. If I had to use the Pico 4 yeah I'd use VD too. But for quest? Airlink 100%
@@scribblenaut100 I dont understand this perspective. In either case its a button press away and the physical aspect is the same in either case. The PC-side software on VD is superior and lighter. Oculus' PC software can be charitably described as unreliable at best. While it achieves better images it is finicky, often laggy, mess when dealing with VR instances outside Oculus' own ecosystem and is not near as customizable on-the-fly as Virtual Desktop is. Neither airlink or the link cable operate like mature technologies and the fact I get better results out of Virtual Desktop than with the link cable even with massive tinkering, something that should be impossible given the massively higher transfer speeds, lends me to fully believe Meta just wanted to be able to slap PCVR on the box to increase sales and has no intent on their version of this technology ever being mature.
@@AyaKho ease of use. Is all you need to know. All this customizing stuff is nice I suppose. But not needed. So I don't feel the need to use VD when Airlink does what I want. And nothing more. The software isn't janky on my end. I haven't had issues with it yet. I just put on the quest. Turn it on and connect to my woken PC. Works perfectly fine until I am done.
Why do people want a standalone headset instead of a proper PCVR experience? The market is ruined because of you gooners trying to be in VR while at work
I've just taken the jump into VR with Pico 4 and I'm very pleased with it. I don't have any of the fitting problems you have said and find it very comfortable to wear, order a usb c to 3.5 Jack so that sorts the lack of no Bluetooth headphones and yes virtual desktop is the way to go like with all stand alone VR head sets from what I understand.
Cool to see you got yourself into VR through this headset! As with the pcvr, it should be an option to have a solid wired connection that you can use to get consistent quality to the pico, I had to explicitly buy a new router for VD and I imagine a lot of people are not fortunate enough to have proper 5Ghz wifi connection setup in their room, it was just a bummer for me to see that the wired connection was worse than virtual desktop and I would love to see improvement on that field as I do not mind a cable but love some good quality
I live South Korea and saw this for sale for what is about 380USD for the 256GB version. I heard about 3 free games for Black Friday and went back and bought it. There were no free games, at least not for me on activation. Probably not a deal for this region. That said, I'm coming to this device from a Lenovo WMR device. The Pico 4 is an upgrade. Much clearer text, vastly lighter and better tracking. The shape of the controls is great for putting your hands together. Better for holding virtual guns, better for fishing and working the reel etc. I didn't even bother with the given streaming app and just instantly bought Virtual Desktop. I have an older rig, but new Wi-Fi 6 in my room. This is probably where this headset really shines. Half-life Alyx just works really well with the controllers and looks amazing. I feel no lag. Kayak VR Mirage is another title that looks amazing the the controllers work as if set for the Pico 4. The controllers vibrate when your paddles hit the water, so its just really immersive. Plus once you go the PC streaming route you get access to Steam VR sales. This then lets you buy AAA titles for 2 to 5 times cheaper than the stand alone store (those prices need to come down). I'm so impressed with PCVR streaming I've finally decided to upgrade my trusty 1060 graphics card to a 3060. I never saw the need before, but PC VR has given me a reason now. I find this headset very comfortable. I'm afraid you just have a giant head :). Cue Mike Myers monologue. That boy's got a giant head. It's like an orange on a toooothpick. Ar go cry yerself te sleep on ye huuge pilla. Great vid keep em coming.
hopefully the Quest 3 will be the polished version of the Pico 4. It will have everything the Pico 4 has , plus potentially the Touch Pro controllers (otherwise you can buy separately) which people are saying are nearly as good as index controllers tracking-wise. Im very excited to see the Quest 3 next year personally.
The leaked CAD images show that the Quest 3 will have the same kind of strap that the Quest 2 had. We can safely assume it will also have the same kind of horrible facial interface the Q2 also had. It also won't have eye and face tracking. And the Touch Pro controllers are more expensive then the Quest 2 headset and have a really short battery life. So if Meta doesn't step up their game they will loose the competition with Pico 4 if Pico decides to come out to US market.
@@pipiriripuriruri9804 The "short" battery life of the pro controllers is long enough. Up to eight hours...well if you can play that long, you will belong in the exeption list. They are rechargable, so just after using recharge them and every time you start playing you have full capacity. With swappable batteries it happens often that you think you have enough power, but then after a few minutes ago, you need to replace them, because you didn't look how much charge they had left.
Informative, but I must say Virtual Desktop is a must have whether Quest or Pico 4. It really doesn't matter which seems better through their built in solutions in my opinion. Virtual Desktop is an absolute bargain and it's developer stays unbelievably ahead of the curve. As soon as new capabilities were made available for the Quest and Quest 2 that could enhance the wireless experience, Guy was putting them to use in an update. So I can't imagine for PCVR that the Pico isn't leagues better. The mic through virtual desktop is better than the Quest Mic so who cares if PICO software can't compete with virtual desktop. It's hard to imagine how the Pico could possibly be more uncomfortable than the Quest 2 but I cannot argue your experience without one of my own. It seems as though through virtual desktop the streaming performance is equal so I don't know how it is possible for the Pico 4's better FOV to not give it the clear edge. Obviously someone with a large Quest library will find the Pico 4 to be a tough sell, and people with borderline VR capable PC's might hesitate to not have access to meta's stand alone library, but as a budget PCVR headset the PICO 4 should be the new King. Elsewhere a reviewer noted that the Pico 4 displays are not quite as bright as the Quest displays but also that he could only notice this by directly switching back and forth between the two. AKA it's a non-issue for those who don't want it to be an issue. But I digress. What is most important is an honest review, so thank you for that. Also comfort is apparently extremely subjective as I find both Quests to be very uncomfortable with after market mods being critical to find something more tolerable with truly comfortable not being an option at all. That's my experience yet there are those who swear it's better than an Index, a headset I can use for far longer in a single session than I probably ever should.
Virtual Desktop for sure is a work of brilliance! And I am super happy it does the job so well, I just wanted to state my overall point from a Pico focussed view, and a wired connection for instance should be a consistent source of pcvr throughput where even that was lacking so much due to compression :( As for comfort, yeah that is subjective and is the reason I made a point of having issues with my large head in the past, I am sure there are ways to wear it a little better but so far my preference is on the index any day still Overall a great little headset! Especially for this price but I also cannot wait what other companies will do to answer to this! In any case I am glad you enjoyed the video and maybe I will see you next time :)
I bought Pico 4 and i'm very disapointed. I'm using Quest 2 from one month for PCVR with USB3 cable. I spent a lot of time to find out the best configuration (FPS and Quality). And now a lot of YT and internet hype for Pico 4 with Virtual Desktop (aka game changer and so on..) It's a bullshit for me. I've bought Pico 4 few days ago for better FOV, resolution and overall "image quality". Tested everything (WiFi6, USB-C etehernet card, USB3 cable, Streaming Assistant and Virtual Desktop (Godlike on my RTX 4090). Sorry, there is no way to have even close what i have on Quest 2 with OpenXR Toolkit and Open Composite with USB3 cable (I mean FPS and overall image quality not FOV of course). Now I will return my Pico 4, stay with Quest 2 and in the time where I wait for Quest 3 I will try HP Reverb G2 V2 because have also better spec then Q2 but can work same straight way like Q2 (OXRT, OC) without this sh**ty heavy SteamVR which Pico 4 use. Try your configuratiion with Virtual Desktop instead Streaming Assistant and You will see much better quality and performance, yes it's true. But again, for me even VD it's not to close what i've got from OXRT and OC. I wanted to have the same quality and performance on Pico 4, and even better due to the spec, but it's not possible until Pico 4 will not fully natively supports/uses Open XR.
Thank you for the transparency and honesty. One of the issues I've seen with pico 4 reviews is that there's such a push to find a quest alternative that people kind of sweep the bad things under the rug. I appreciate that you were neutral and unbiased
@@radicalturkey sure.. yoo have in what "the land of make believe"??.. if you really claim he clarity of your Quest2 lenses is better. and give you a better and wider FOV I really dont wanna pop your ballon, but c'mon my radical bird... But Pico4 clarity is on another leel then Quest2 amd its also better then Meta Pro according to most channels comparing such. check MRTV showdown. and its simply because of the hardware.. You have so many more pixels on Pico4. Pico4 got 9.33 mio pixels and you have a PPI at extreme 1193 pixels pr square inch. Quest2 is like the old cardboard mobilescreen approach with one single screen . it got 3.5 mio pixels and a PPI at 487 Meta Pro got 6.9 mio pixels. IMO Pico4 is likely beiing subsidized heavily wit a priceloss, and the BOM cost is likely way higher then the inner value its being sold at.. nothing new.. Meta did the same in a period.. and its been more then norm then not on consoles.
@@radicalturkey you must have gotten a bad one because it is hands down 20xs better than the quest 2. I would actually argue it is the best headset on the market for the price.
good review! although for your problem with comfort, from how i've seen you wearing it, you should let the back of the headset sit slightly higher on the back of your head, and rely more on the top strap to support it, first placing the front of the pico 4 on your face, then sliding the back until it feel comfortable without going too low, and then tightening the top strap to fix the balance how you set it. i hope you can get it to work for you until third party face covers are out on the market!
awesome review love how you show how a consumer would use this headset instead of talking points from the company you have earned my subscription great work
Quest 3 with the new chip and pancake lenses sounds like a win. They really need to increase fov though, I can’t ever get over the constant looking through holes feeling of the quest 2.
I am just personally a big fan of a dedicated aux port, it also makes me decide on what phone to buy for instance ;) But yeah, adapters or bluetooth is possible
Facial interface gets better after a while, gets softer, use virtusl desktop until they upgrade the streaming assistant, sound is more than fine, so is microphone. What is unfortunate is the mura, the warping lenses, the mismatch of brightness of the displays in dark images and the ability to see the individual pixels, kinda like a screen door effect. Overall, still a great upgrade over the q2
I will get my Pico4 next week and without any second thoughts, the first software I will buy for it is Virtual Desktop. I use this apk ever since I have my Oculus Go. It is the best to me and I sometimes forget to turn it off when I'm done playing with the Quest2. Don't want to go to the Quest menu. Then of course, you need a Wifi6 router. They are cheap nowadays and if you are interested in playing PCVR titles, thats the road to take in my humble opinion. No device works perfect out of the box. For stand alone it is ok, but if you want extra, you have to make those steps. You mentioned the sound was lacking? You are the first one who said this. Well.... my latest phone also didn't come with a headphone jack. But already long before that I switched to Bluetooth headphones. Recently I bought some very good earbuds and it is so nice to work in the garden with those buds. I even can let my phone 10 meters away from me and still enjoy good sound. So I will try to connect them with the Pico4.... But as for now, the Pico4 will be only my "bridge" headset until the Quest 3 comes to the market.... that will be the replacement of my Quest 2 and hopefully it comes with new controllers that have some of the features of the Quest Pro controllers.... The Pico4 will be mainly used for PCVR gaming...
I regrettably had to return my Pico 4 as mine had iffy tracking, and I had some sort of warping/distortion at the centre of my lenses. Such a shame as everything else was amazing - playing Half-Life Alyx with a wider FOV, and vastly superior blacks, colours and resolution was mindblowing. I'm hearing variations with the quality of the screens, tracking and lenses - some say the picture is muddy with lower contrast than Quest 2, where mine was vastly better in that aspect at least. Seems Pico still have work to do with their QA.
Honestly I have had some issues with low contrast in PCVR applications but I genuinely thought it was a VD/Dtreaming related thing as the standalone games seemed fine, sad to hear you had to return yours though!
@@MBaderson @Stephen Mullins I have tracking issues as well. It's like there's a slight latency on the headset tracking. But enough to create motion sickness. It's especially bad when I turn my head fast or 'wiggle' it... the entire picture including background is moving. I haven't been able to find anyone with similar issues so I'm starting to think it's my headset and not the Pico 4 in general. And also all reviewers talk about edge-to-edge clarity.... my lenses are blurry in outer 25-30%. Middle is super clear, though. @Stephen did you get another headset or did you just return it?
@@runebraager1968 i have noticed slight moving of the game, menu or just vr world as I twist my head left to right but it was so slight I thought it was something I was just not used to... May be a Pico 4 thing then
@@MBaderson Yeah - maybe it is a Pico 4 thing then. My Quest 2 doesn't do this at all. If I wiggle my head from side to side or up and down it's super obvious how much it actually is... I'd love to hear other opinions about this.
Returned my Pico 4. Comfort is really bad. The face padding is really stiff and wont follow the face very well leaking light from the sides that bounces on the pancake lenses. The side straps are hard plastic and stiff and in the way of bigger headphones/headsets. The best IPD setting hurts my nose because the lenses are so big. Tracking is jerky, especially in SteamVR and even though I have Wifi6 running at 1300mpbs on a 5ghz channel with 0.3% utilization I can't go over 40mpbs in Virtual Desktop/steamvr before things gets unplayable. The store is barren, the headsets "smart" features only look for PCs on the same subnet for streaming and thus does not support multi subnets etc. Resolution and FOV is good though. The controllers are kind of meh. I felt the light rings were in the way of some racket sports games. Also don't agree with the button setup. Too many deal breakers for me to justify a $550 purchase and that's disregarding the fact that ByteDance is a company under direct control of the Chinese Communist Party.
What kind of norm do you have if your bltching about the sound? I was very impressed by the sound in Pico4 and siginificant better then Quest2. IMO' You need to use Valve Index as a reference before they was obvious inferior. and sure you ca oplug in your 3.5 jacks to your heart desire with those adapter or TypeC to sound & power splitters that I reckon most people have in bulk, as rhey more or less came with every mobile after they ditched the jack for a TypeC... and make sure its your tophead that the ribbon is leaning on.. I tend to bend the headset and then place the facemask soft on my face and then lean the back down with my facemask already fitted. I dont screw it on like a corkprop, but a smaller facemask will be plus as its simpply to big.. people can have glass underneath without the use of the extender, so its simply to far from your eyes then it has to be IMO amd your leaving FOV and possible crispyness on the table.. so a more optimised magnetic facecushion would be nice..
Oof! I haven't experienced anything bad with this particular one but I did notice some people also reporting dead pixels at the start of usage... I hope it holds up the test of time tbh
Good job! What an outstanding well done review, one of the few videos I have seen that covers all the relevant customer important points. New subscriber here, keep doing this good videos.
There is two mistakes in my opinion that Pico made with the Pico 4, no audio jack and no display port that was on the Pico 3. Why did Pico rule these out on the Pico 4? If only they added these two features I would have bought it.
Must be a head shape thing i find the Pico 4 incredibly comfy compared to the Quest 2, it has impressive air flow design aswell which keeps your face cool i find. The Quest would make my face sore and sweaty after a hour.
The cooling is really nice in the Pico I must agree and it probably is my huge head that makes the pico somewhat uncomfortable, though using it for a little longer it did get slightly better :3
Pico is the most comfortable hmd out there. People crank it down and you don't have to with the pico. Also, a small battery on the back can actually make it more comfortable too, let alone when you upgrade the face cushion. Love the ergonomics of it.
Competition is good. As I'm a proud owner of an original Oculus Rift, the Pico 4 will be my next VR headset. I never saw a reason to upgrade to the Quest 2. Hopefully they will update the software more and more so we don't have some of those problems you talked about. But, just as a comparison, Ques 2 had a few years of software updates to get where it is right now.
True, using the original Quest 1 for me also was a journey of software updates that indeed made it better every time, I have hope for the Pico in that regard!
soundcore vr p10 works great for sound, it plugs into the usb-c plug and even has a passthrough so if you want you can still charge etc. ..and yes you need to have a decent router and virtual desktop. I am waiting for a better face interface from a 3rd party however, both for comfort and get your eyes closer to the lenses, thus increase FOV. I did manage to frankenstein a very decent solution, though it is slightly less comfortable than the already meh comfort of the standard interface, it does increase the fov by a good bit. My biggest gripe so far only playing around a bit in a few pc games is that the controls are not on par with a pcvr headset. For instance in Superhot VR, shooting and punching works great, but it is almost impossible to throw things. They seem to go in all sorts of random directions. Using Steam VR environment you can pull up stuff like a paint tool, however choosing colors does not seem to work, so it always defaults to black.
Wow, another absolute banger of a review! Don’t worry, your head isn’t big, it’s just your big brain haha. I hope RUclips algorithm gonna do its job and send your channel to the moon! I’m looking forward for more content!
Pico 4 is an Android device. Download any APK you like such as Aether PS2 emulator, N64 emu, Snes emulators or whatever. Place the APKs onto a USB-C thumb drive and pop it right into side of the Pico 4 then install them onto your device. Also, if you don't know Virtual Desktop is only for wireless streaming. If you want wired pcvr, the pico streaming app works just fine. Pico 4 is better in every way than quest 2 imo
When Pico uses these lenses in their next headset with uncompressed displayport over USB-C, it could be a winner. Hopefully it will have haptics, eye tracking, and HDR to compete with PSVR2. Or if Quest 3 does all that first, I will happily buy another Meta headset.
I personally had no issues with that, compared to the index it was actually a plus for me but I have a friend of mine who also notices the glare to an annoying extend, so I totally understand!
A nice in-depth review for the average consumer. The headset is good, but needs time to mature, and do most people really overlook the fact that Pico is owned by the same company that owns tik-tok? I wouldn't like my data going to china.
Yeah, you better stay with the good old Zuckerberg´s Facebook/Meta. That way your data just goes to NSA and probably CIA ( in case you live outside the USA). Privacy politics of Meta is the worst of all ! Total surveillance by Smartphones, VR headsets and Amazon Alexas and Google assistants make any resistance futile ! Terrorists, Insurgents, Nationalists, Rebels or similar highly dangerous criminals will encounter hard times as their whole life will be spied out. Your life too, amongst millions others, but your data might not be interesting enough, so they just save it on some harddrive and wait for the day they can use some of that against you when you jump out of the mainstream row, or your children or grandchildren.
Well, if you've ever played league of legends, Valorant, Call of duty, Fortnite, Minecraft, Animal crossing, Roblox, any SUPERCELL game. Used Discord, Twitch, Snapchat, Epic Games. Ever used Stripe, Shopify. Your data is already with China. Heck China probably has had our data since 2005. At this point its just pointless to try and avoid it as somehow or another you're on the radar. Might as well just enjoy the products until we're all world dominated anyways.
I've come from the original htc vive.. The Pico 4 is way better in many ways. The Rez, the clarity, the weight, the wireless capability etc. The only issue is latency when in using virtual desktop for all my steam vr games. It's very small - 35 to 40ms over WiFi 6 with a dedicated router, but it is noticeable in fast paced games. Also, the bandwidth of 5G WiFi 6 does require a fair amount of compression, so the clarity is not quite on par with the stand alone games. But this all said, it's still way clearer and nicer to use than the vive, a definite upgrade 👍
Shame it just doesn't work that well on PC (other than lacking proper audio/mic). Would've been a good alternative to the Quest 2 in so many ways! Oh well, Quest 3 coming soon anyway.
Yeah the main take to get from this would be that it looks really promising what kind of tech can be affordable and the Quest 3 or even stuff from Valve or HTC are looking to be competitive in their own ways
i play almost only on my valve index, was considering if i should go with pico4 and VD streaming.. but even after watching so many reviews i still don't know. do you think you'll be using it instead of your index???
Solid question, I too have been using the Index for a long time but to be real honest if you own an Index, it really is a tricky one. The pico just does not do the same for the pcvr experience as the Index has done so well for so long, I personally have not decided to use the Pico over the Index and am kind of waiting for either something from Valve again or a really polished version of the current standing in VR
@@MBaderson if it doesn't offer a superior experience compared to the index i'm afraid i'll just leave it. and wait for something better to come along , wireless seems damn tempting though ngl...
Mine was delivered Saturday and Monday it's being collected and sent back. uncomfortable, blurry around the edges (writing is not focused if you don't look it at exactly straight on) this causes it uncomfortable on the eyes
The more competitors, the more the entire industry gets money. This is because more competitors mean different features for different customers. It could introduce people to the technology by getting them introduced to something more useful.
Wireless for me is not there yet quality or speed wise to put my money down on one. See what next year brings. Currently I have good 2 VR headsets for SIM racing that connect directly to my Graphics card and I will stick with these type of headsets until wireless possibly gets any better. I feel that any new wireless headset for the future will never provide Direct Connects (DP) to a graphics card. Plus if Pico does not sell their products in the US, so be it, I have other non wireless VR headsets to look at and think about.
With the recent updates on Pico and Virtual desktop the PcVR experience has been great on my end. Far better than my quest2. I did not go with the Quest 3 bec of cost and i only play mostly sim VR games thus the Pico 4 has been perfect. Weirdly enough the ASW works well on Pico 4 than my Quest 2…
The thing is, what is ther alternative? The G2 has bad tracking and bad controllers. The Index is too old, too expensive, has godrays, and too low resolution. So the only real options left are either the Pico 4 or Quest 2.
Depends on what you are looking for, G2 you go to for full simulation and ppd, Index may be old for new buyers but I will always stay with it for its comfort, audio, FOV and tracking... So for PCVR I would say wait a little, new things are dropping the coming year that could change those choices
Thanks for a review, find it very useful, but short. So, personally kinda small amount of information about pcvr, because people constantly talks about muddy experience with pico 4. And as i have an rx6600, that people claims an AMD solutions not so good for VR, in sum it stops me from buying it, but Quest 2 looks like a bad deal when we compare it. So yeah, lets hope that pico would constantly update their soft and it would be a great deal.
I checked a video about picos own streaming assistant. You need to put higher resolution on steam. That should make the image better. I have not tested this myself but it was very poor and now I use virtual desktop. Their assistant is not better then virtual desktop but you can get better image than just press HD on the assitans
Out of the box it feels like an Apple product in terms of build quality and materials, the motors on the IPD feel like this cost 2k. The face mask is just terrible, you have to get the AMVR face plate then it’s the most comfy headset I’ve ever used. the audio speaker ports are nowhere near anyones ears, just stupid. I use VD over a 4.5m 20gbps subculture cable that goes to a usb Ethernet with power pass through so I can use it without any battery drain always stays at 100% No streaming artefacts at all I stream it at 100mbps. Controllers are amazing as is the tracking. I am this weekend in the middle of designing and 3D printing audio shields that direct the sound to your ears. If you cup your hands over it and your ear the sound is fantastic! So I’m making clip on convex shields that cup your ears and the port. All in all I’d say it’s the best all round headset on the market with a few addons. OLED would be nice but not needed on most games. Fov is fantastic., clarity is fantastic on the whole image, pancake lenses are game changers, no godray flares. Light weight, beautifully made, Just has a few design flaws like the audio position and the face mask. Also quite a lot of geese have wavey lenses to various degrees, my left lens has some wavy ness when looking around. I] only noticeable if I’m looking for it. I think it’s just the artefact of pancake lens production must be hard to get perfect.
If I use it as a PCVR, do two display monitors equal two times resource consumption? 2160x2160x2=4320x4320? Which is higher than Quest's 1920×3664? So it will require more power?
i Have Problems With Mine THe Tracking On One Controllers Doesnt Work And When I Got It THe Same Controller Was Open It Also Squeaks alot and i cant buy new ones and they wont let me get a refund
You are comparing me to some really big names in the business! I might not agree fully there haha but I am super glad you enjoyed what I could offer in terms of quality!
Pcvr headsets typically run and look better than standalone headsets so your perspective is a little spoiled but i think it's good for a standalone headset.
I must admit that my background with PCVR headsets up until this review did not help my perspective, however I have spent a lot of time with the original Quest for instance and it did make me admire the leap in technology since then
The review was focussed on the Pico itself and their own software in that regard, the 'eh' was purely for how their version of PC connectivity works as of now
@@NoxIF34 I am on a 5Ghz 802.11ac band and in terms of throughput it works all perfectly fine, it is just that Virtual Desktop really does provide better image quality than Pico Streaming app, sadly even their wired connection isn't better :(

I would say not really. Apart from the budget for the headset being a lot higher than what I would pay for a new PCVR headset, it also isn't aimed at any consumer PCVR market and it it wouldn't be an upgrade from already available PCVR specific products Out of pure curiosity I would love to try one out some time but I would never be looking to buy one for myself at least
@@sherkhansher1981 I do not sadly, the controllers put me off from buying it as an upgrade to my current setup but the headset itself looks really good still
@@MBaderson yeah, the headset’s resolution for price is the best deal right now, but a beefy GPU is a must to run it, swap the controllers to Index ones, boom there goes your poor man’s Vajro Aero 😂 Lenses are still last gen, so I’m looking to get the QPro, with my PC setup, people are raving about lenses and clarity on high end rigs, can’t wait to try it out myself
Sorry, might have been a little vague to leave it up to you guys but basically, it currently does not perform th best with their own streaming software and wired will not be a great experience, but if you can, then you can use Virtual Desktop with a proper router to get some wireless pcvr going, you can also wait for some updates on the software from Pico to see if that works any better in the future! I dont understand how people regard the resolution as acceptable or better than quest 2 in any way shape or form. Please tell me you cannot count the pixels of the PICO4 as the headset starts up. Terrible and much worse for PCVR than the Quest 2

If you are referring to a recent video that popped up about increasing the SteamVR sampling resolution then I did not try that one out yet at the time and left it at HD for the review in this video, but the app itself still has lots of room for improvement nonetheless
@@chrisnewby9771 I was referring to some video about the Pico 4 and Steam specifically, but on HD it currently is not better than the index, the colours are a lot less vibrant and the comfort seals the deal for me personally

@@scribblenaut100 same.
Maybe complaints need 5ghz wifi router is issue but both ways is envolving money anyway
@@MBaderson interesting that the wired connection is worse? Can't see why that would be 🤔
@@MBaderson that's called the Pico 4 pro 😁

@@MBaderson isn't it possible to make a cabled connection over VD?
I also can't wait to see what the Quest 3 and things like the 'Deckard' will bring! Definitely also going to try and get my hands on either :3
If the polished version means adding a Audio Jack and display Port then yes i'm in!
@@GT1GT oh there probably wont be DP, maybe audio jack since Q2 has one
And I am super happy it does the job so well, I just wanted to state my overall point from a Pico focussed view, and a wired connection for instance should be a consistent source of pcvr throughput where even that was lacking so much due to compression :(
As for comfort, yeah that is subjective and is the reason I made a point of having issues with my large head in the past, I am sure there are ways to wear it a little better but so far my preference is on the index any day still
Overall a great little headset!
@@radicalturkey sure.. yoo have in what "the land of make believe"??.. if you really claim he clarity of your Quest2 lenses is better. and give you a better and wider FOV
I really dont wanna pop your ballon, but c'mon my radical bird...
Quest2 is like the old cardboard mobilescreen approach with one single screen . it got 3.5 mio pixels and a PPI at 487
Meta Pro got 6.9 mio pixels.
I will definitely try that! Maybe the index spoiled me for a bit too long... Thank you for the tip! And I am glad you enjoyed the video
awesome review love how you show how a consumer would use this headset instead of talking points from the company you have earned my subscription great work
Very glad you liked it! Perk of buying it yourself so you can criticize as you would :3
Quest 3 with the new chip and pancake lenses sounds like a win. They really need to increase fov though, I can’t ever get over the constant looking through holes feeling of the quest 2.
i'd say the only reason they didnt increase the fov is because the xr2 cpu cant handle this pixel density with a big fov, not at 90hz
Too bad quest 3 its coming in late 2023 early 2024,
too bad meta is doing it bad

Its a bonus that you can use a usb dongle with a better dap for headphones id imagine….but annoying that you cant charge at the same time.
@@MBaderson @Stephen Mullins
I have tracking issues as well.
If you got a Quest 2, dont change it. I tested the Pico 4 and was like you... "Eh"...😒better use my Quest 2.
It's good to see another one with a good display... Both of mine went back due to really bad mura :(
Oof! I haven't experienced anything bad with this particular one but I did notice some people also reporting dead pixels at the start of usage... I hope it holds up the test of time tbh

There is two mistakes in my opinion that Pico made with the Pico 4, no audio jack and no display port that was on the Pico 3. Why did Pico rule these out on the Pico 4? If only they added these two features I would have bought it.
If it came with a dedicated display port I would really consider using this a lot more for sure!
For me both are not important.... I don't miss them...

@MBaderson Good, I've seen a few others say they found it like yourself aswell so your not the only one
Something new! Gigantic head life still on though, I never fit any hats when I try them on unless they are gigantic xD
Ah now I see what you mean by it would be a major step up from the Quest 1! Awesome video as always Michael! Keep them coming! ❤
Thank you!!
Great review! Just subscribed.
Glad you enjoyed it!
When Pico uses these lenses in their next headset with uncompressed displayport over USB-C, it could be a winner. Hopefully it will have haptics, eye tracking, and HDR to compete with PSVR2. Or if Quest 3 does all that first, I will happily buy another Meta headset.
Completely agree with this one
for me personally a deal breaker with Pico 4 is very noticeable glare/reflection going on...completely disrupting the immersion experience.
I personally had no issues with that, compared to the index it was actually a plus for me but I have a friend of mine who also notices the glare to an annoying extend, so I totally understand!
Im excited too put that headset on
Pico 4 is amazing. Wish I could get the Pico Pro or enterprise for eye tracking in pcvr. That would be amazing.
The wireless is a nice feature, but then again, that will be pretty much standard in the next upcoming hardware :)
I also feel identically about the headset positioning. It feels like it's slightly off-center on my face, and I can't adjust it at all.
Yo you need more subs dude
I think it’s just the artefact of pancake lens production must be hard to get perfect.
hello I have a question can we play with meta quest players?
I have a pico 4
If I use it as a PCVR, do two display monitors equal two times resource consumption? 2160x2160x2=4320x4320? Which is higher than Quest's 1920×3664? So it will require more power?
Yes, it will require a higher power pc than the Quest 2 does for the resolution, though you can downscale this in SteamVR
I really like your videos
Thank you so much! Welcome to the channel :)
I’ll stick with the Quest 2 this Christmas
well done

i Have Problems With Mine THe Tracking On One Controllers Doesnt Work And When I Got It THe Same Controller Was Open It Also Squeaks alot and i cant buy new ones and they wont let me get a refund
Just as good as unbox therapy and marques brownlee
Why the low subscribers
You are comparing me to some really big names in the business! I might not agree fully there haha but I am super glad you enjoyed what I could offer in terms of quality!

Pcvr headsets typically run and look better than standalone headsets so your perspective is a little spoiled but i think it's good for a standalone headset.
I must admit that my background with PCVR headsets up until this review did not help my perspective, however I have spent a lot of time with the original Quest for instance and it did make me admire the leap in technology since then
So... Virtual Desktop works pretty much flawlessly, is relatively cheap and yet you say 'meh'? WTF?
The review was focussed on the Pico itself and their own software in that regard, the 'eh' was purely for how their version of PC connectivity works as of now
@@MBaderson Are you on wifi 5 or 6?
@@NoxIF34 I am on a 5Ghz 802.11ac band and in terms of throughput it works all perfectly fine, it is just that Virtual Desktop really does provide better image quality than Pico Streaming app, sadly even their wired connection isn't better :(
I just got my PIco4 but when I turn it on it just says "LOADING..." and nothing happens. Is there a way to fix this?
I personally have not had that problem nor have I heard of it before, you could try to send a support ticket to Pico for the issue or see if a reddit post or article states the same problem... I wish I could help you, as this sounds really annoying! But I hope you can find the information you need soon!
@@MBaderson How do I send a report ticket to PIco? There is no help link in the manual or box.
@@oldhaws8009 You can go to the picoxr.com website and on the support page it should have a button to contact them, there you should be able to fill in all the information and your message for the issue. Hope this helps!
@@MBaderson thanks man, I'm just gonna ask for a refund.
not available in Canada.. damn
my question is when will this release in the US?
They were slated to release around Q1 2023 in the US, but I have no idea what the current plans are
Nice 👍
Im still using theQuest 1, cause its OLED..
Quest 1 had a really nice display and colour depth! One of the better that were ever on the market
1:49 "...though that train of thought quickly disappeared as you held it it my hand for longer"
*cuts to shot of cosmetic damage that presumably exists from the factory
Is that the joke, or did you really miss that damaged face cushion?
5:10 isint pico 4 a bluetooth device?
This is being said in the context of audio devices and I am trying to say I do not own bluetooth headphones or earbuds
question!! Can one buy this but NOT let tiktok collect your information? Can he be used off the grid with there spy collections?
Is it possible to install a VPN on it?
Any plans for Quest Pro as a pc gamer?
I would say not really. Apart from the budget for the headset being a lot higher than what I would pay for a new PCVR headset, it also isn't aimed at any consumer PCVR market and it it wouldn't be an upgrade from already available PCVR specific products
Out of pure curiosity I would love to try one out some time but I would never be looking to buy one for myself at least
@@MBaderson do you own ReverbG2?
@@sherkhansher1981 I do not sadly, the controllers put me off from buying it as an upgrade to my current setup but the headset itself looks really good still
@@MBaderson yeah, the headset’s resolution for price is the best deal right now, but a beefy GPU is a must to run it, swap the controllers to Index ones, boom there goes your poor man’s Vajro Aero 😂 Lenses are still last gen, so I’m looking to get the QPro, with my PC setup, people are raving about lenses and clarity on high end rigs, can’t wait to try it out myself
Why does the pico os look identical to the oculus os
Watching people shit on Meta, while they readily suck up significantly worse chinese spyware from Bytedance, has got to be my new guilty pleasure.
beadphones connecting with typec adapter, no problem
Good 👍👍
ehhhh, pcvr? i need a aswer! :D
Hope this helps! :)
I dont understand how people regard the resolution as acceptable or better than quest 2 in any way shape or form. Please tell me you cannot count the pixels of the PICO4 as the headset starts up. Terrible and much worse for PCVR than the Quest 2
Meh i want the next gen PC VR thatll take advantage of my 4090 the index 2 a true PC VR hardware. Not changing my index till that happens
How about you go outside and see the world in the best settings possible
@@adas8457 trash useless comment considering I go outside to make my money to afford all the top spec stuff i own 🤷♂️
@@dominiquesmith6745 That one seemed to get under your skin, bet you get that a lot. And btw i dont give 2 shits that you spend your trashy job's money on video games no matter how much you bring it up, show me a private jet then i wil.
you bought this intentionally?
question!! Can one buy this but NOT let tiktok collect your information seeing its owned by bydance CCP spy company? Can it be used off there grid with there spy collections softer ware?
Ok but does gorilla tag work on it
yes
I dont have faith in zuckerburg... he is running meta into the ground
Quest 2 is $400 USD and Pico 4 is $425. Sure sounds cheaper than the Quest 2.
In my country and currency the Quest 2 is more expensive by a small margin and these are the prices in Euro's mentioned in the video
I got it today for 388.- Euro free shipping on a BF promotion. Couldn't be happier about the price. It's gonna be my first VR set, I only briefly tried a PS VR set before but I think this Pico 4 is gonna blow it out of the water in every way. It's gonna take a week to arrive, in the mean time I'm watching these videos 😁
@@ArmandQ. Have fun with the new headset! The pico 4 is going to feel a lot better for you if you are used to the PSVR1. Thank you so much for watching and hope to see you in the next video!
Nah, i prefer my HTC Vive pro 2 over this... Piece
Probably has an Iphone with no 3.5mm headphone jack. And he is the only one I have found complaining about the comfort, and the Sound quality of the speakers.
Chinese knockoff....not interested
614 subs not worth watching
Ah yes! You are correct, if I were you, I would just skip out on this video
cant believe you only have 700 subscribers
Meet me in another couple of years and who knows! :3
Did you amend the Steam stream resolution for you review of the quality to render HD at 140% or just leave it?
If you are referring to a recent video that popped up about increasing the SteamVR sampling resolution then I did not try that one out yet at the time and left it at HD for the review in this video, but the app itself still has lots of room for improvement nonetheless
@@MBaderson Its not a recent video, its how rendering works, but are you saying even on HD its better than the Index or same, worse?
@@chrisnewby9771 I was referring to some video about the Pico 4 and Steam specifically, but on HD it currently is not better than the index, the colours are a lot less vibrant and the comfort seals the deal for me personally
Aww maan...you just can buy an usb-c to headphone jack adapter...it's 3 euros on amazon.
This is true, but I would like to keep my USB port open for charging, connectivity to PCVR, accessories, etc.
