      The Herd with Colin Cowherd The Giants stink, aren't making the playoffs. Eli is old and washed up, better days were behind him. He's made his money and Giants needed to move on from him and they're simply tanking the rest of the season; they figured, hey McAddoo is getting fired, lets let it fly and see if we can get a top 5 draft pick

  • @flux5595
    @flux5595 7 лет назад +16

    I hate how everything is about stats. If you actually look at a Giants game, Eli throws to a wide open receiver or runner out of the backfield and they can't catch. Then if he wants to throw a deep ball, the o-line gives him absolutely no time for the play to develop. He can't run a pass action cause they can't get a strong run game developed. His 3 top receivers are out. Do you expect him to target a tight end 20 times a game or something? And does anyone actually thinking Geno Smith is going to do better? Just start Davis Webb and see what the kid can do instead of starting a complete failure of a QB and thinking everything is solved.

  • @stephendoyle9427
    @stephendoyle9427 7 лет назад +36

    I'm at Pat's fan so I know what Eli has done. He's had absolutely no protection, that O line stinks, his primary receiver is injured and the defence is not great. I don't think this is fair. Smith is not the answer, they probably looking to secure 2nd overall pick so they get Darnold, Mayfield or Rosen and start a new era.

    • @santiagoruvira4827

      They kept kobe around cause of the revenue he generated for them even in years when he barely played. Kobe is a guaranteed sold out game at home or on the road, and remained a top tier merch mover in the league. None of those apply to eli.

How is that bad? And you are benching him for Geno Smith? We have seen him play, he ain't good. Davis Webb i could understand, he is a rookie but Geno Smith? Come on now, you dont treat a legend of your franchise like that.

    I don’t feel bad for Eli but this is a GM/ Head coach issue. Look how many drops his receivers had last game. The offensive line has been horrible. 5 sacks last game. 6 sacks the one before that

  • @leonh.kalayjian6556
    @leonh.kalayjian6556 7 лет назад +1

    Gen Smith has improved and is a decent and MOBILE. q b, which with this line, you need. and they might win more games with gen than with Eli, which would actually hurt the long term plans. Eli also has put the ball on the ground a bit when sacked. maybe geno gets away from the pressure and opens up the run game a little.
    when geno got hurt with the jets, the coaching staff was saying gen o was much better at recognition and he never had a chance to prove it.

  • @jrjcarl

    In all my years as a giants fan I have only watched 1 quarterback start under centre. Eli was the hardest working player who I knew and was truly an inspiration. For a team he has helped get 2 SB's to slap him and tell him that geno gives a better chance to win is truly sad. Coach McAdoo must be trying to save his job because its apparently eli's fault when there is a garbage offenceive line starring eric flowers and "chad wheeler" an average run game at best, and a receiving core which stares Rodger Lewis, Tavarres King, and Travis Rudolph. Look at eli's stats when He has only sterling sheppard, eli had a 114 passer rating with sterling. Imagine if he had OBJ and Brandon marshall. But eli fought harder and harder and only 1 thing could stop him ..... his own team.

Let's not honor him, let's act like that person's value is exactly the same as the guy who bagged my groceries."

  • @botosai25
    @botosai25 7 лет назад +2

    Answer me this Colin. How do you honestly evaluate Smith or Webb behind that offensive line, with no running game or pass catchers. You can't make an honest determination if Webb is the guy for the future in 5 weeks left in the season.

    • @keithlawson7469
      @keithlawson7469 7 лет назад +1

      They’ll be able to see which QB has better escapability, and can throw on the run; something the modern QB’s are doing more of. It also forces LB’s to stay near the line instead of dropping in to zone when there is a mobile QB. This opens up the middle of the field for their slot receivers and TE’s. Having a mobile QB is like having a guy like Steph Curry in the NBA, he creates so much space and spreads the defense.

He beat Farve in Green Bay, He beat the IMMORTAL aaron rodgers IN GREEN BAY WITH THE SEASON ON THE LINE. When you explained the northeast, i thought you would understand we do not care how much money he makes, or what his numbers in 2013 were, We care about the person who has been there for us every single day for 14 years. See u talk about east vs West I'll tell you something about the east. I've grown up in Brooklyn my whole life. In NYC it's championship or bust. So if Eli went 11-5 (last season) it the same bust season as 2013 that Colin is talking about but nobody cares because this man delivered two championships to the city !!!! He has proved himself to us and we will take 2 chips any day over a QB who is pretty good but never wins Romo Dalton Palmer even Newton

  • @HeNRoC91

    Colin the Yankees knew Jeter was over the hill yet still let him bow out gracefully. Why insult Eli and say "hey we'll let you start the first half to keep your streak alive but you're getting benched for the second half, cool? ok". It was low and classless. Obviously he is on the decline but you have to let him finish the season, because with the pieces around him its not like they were going to win very many games going ahead anyway.

    Want to address what this team should do in the up coming draft. DO NOT TAKE A QB WITH THAT TOP THREE PICK IF THAT'S WHERE WE STAY!!! This team needs to trade back to aquire another first rounder or a high 2nd round pick. 3 top 35 picks is what we should be shooting for with all the help that we need up front and in the running game. There's no reason why this team should bail on Webb if he dosent produce when he's thrown into action this season. You give him some pieces in the off season and see if you can make a franchise QB with this kid. Do not just take a QB in the first round with absolutely no foundation set or we will end up like the Cleveland Browns mark my words. Go with Webb for a few years with the full arsenal and in the meantime build the line. If Webb fails then you get your QB with the foundation for that QB to succeed. This is exactly the way it should be done.

  • @philspina

    Here is the problem with the argument that Eli has been trash for his entire career. You say it was all the DEFENSE and the TEAM that won the 2 SB and Eli was just along for the ride. Then when the giants miss the playoffs or have a bad season, its all because Eli is trash. You cant have it both ways. Perfect example - 2015. Eli threw 4400+ yards, 35 TD, 63% completions, 93.6 rating. Guess what, the giants went 6-10 that year. The reason? the defense that year set historically bad records. Drew Brees is great right? He's made the playoffs the same amount of seasons as Eli, and Brees has been a starter longer. Does he suck too because the Saints have missed the playoffs more than half of the time? I bet Eli could go to the Jaguars next year and win a 3rd Superbowl and people would still think he sucks. You dont have to be Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers to still be considered a good QB.

    What Colin said makes a lot of sense. If the Giants know Eli will not be their QB next season, then they’re going to look to draft a QB. If it’s through the draft then of course they don’t want to win the remaining games. Eli gives them the best chance to win in an already meaningless season. Eli is now guaranteed to be healthy for next season for whichever team he’ll sign with.

    Dude hasn't had a competent o-line or running game since 2010 and gets all the blame, guarantee if Ernie Accorsi had stayed the general manager of this team the conversation about Eli's career is VERY different right now.

  • @lwriv7

    Beckham didn't play the first 6ish games of 2014, and has missed most of this season, and Eli's numbers in those games still looked nothing like his 2013 numbers (for the better). So guess again there Colin. The guy had a bad year, in large part because the team played a system that they were completely unable to execute with their personnel at the time. As soon as they switched to a system that hid their woefully inept offensive line a bit though, the numbers went up, even before Odell played a game.

    I feel like the giants made the right move benching Eli. he's not playing well and he not playing to his former super bowl level. and it a good opportunity for someone else to have a opportunity to start and show what they can do.

    As a Viking fan, I'm going to miss Eli being blue/purple colorblind, but I feel that this was a long time coming. Also, it's absurd to think that Eli deserves to be elected to the hall of fame when Randy Moss and Terrell Owens aren't/won't be

    They shouldn't use him as a scapegoat for the season as with the bad defense,bad coaching, dropped catches, injured WR's they had this year yet he takes the blame.One thing to try Webb but Geno? The guy is trash and for the coach to say they have a better chance with Geno who numbers are atrocious than Eli is crazy. Also last year in that post season game it was Beckman and others who dropped passes that caused them to lose.
    Put Eli on the Broncos and like '08 he would beat Brady this year.Eli is getting old but he not horrible to be benched and on a good team he can wi you games and post season games.Let Eli go like Peyton to another team and he will win again.

    Every year experts complain bout giants o line problems that it's a huge weakness then forget it n blame it on Eli. If he had a line n all the receivers weren't hurt he'd be doing fine. He's not mobile he needs a good line. The guy palys every day never gets hurt n gave u 2 super bowls most franchises would sign up to have 2 super bowl wins in which Eli played beautifully n made 2 if the most amazing throws ever

    This is BS, Colin does not know the situation. Eli bottomed out in 2013 because the OL completely decayed, and they ran Gilbride’s offense, which relied on more intermediate to deep routes. They have had a pathetic running game for several years. McAdoo came in and installed West Coast principles to mask the poor OL. After two successful years of the McAdoo offense (and OBJ), the rest of the league caught up. The offense was not good last year, and even worse this year. Eli shares responsibility in that, but he’s not even close to one of the top 15 reasons why the Giants suck. Eli Apple has been playing with very low effort, watch the SF game on the Beathard TD.

    Maybe the Giants are playing Geno for 1 of 2 reasons. To either keep the team losing for draft reasons or to hope Geno plays really well so the Giants can use Geno in a trade in swapping picks with the possible #1 or #2 overall pick. Only thing i can think of. Cause G. Smith sucks!

    i like how fans are against new players getting a chance to showcase their skill until that new player becomes the new tom brady and rogers... give the kids a chances... look at houston with their new QB who did amazingly until a crazy injury happened... we need new blood to run the team that can motivate the o-line to do better... there is a saying global football that goes " its easier to replace one man than an entire team... and thats what the giants are doing... the players just dont feel like playing for eli and thats why they let him get knocked... everyone knows the giants new lead player is odell and when eli ratted him out it was over for him

    I'm with Colin on this, i love this narrative on how we need to feel sorry for Eli or that Eli deserves better... ridiculous, this is the way of things, they would have done the same to Peyton if he decided to come back for one more season in Denver, it's what there gonna do to Carson palmer in Arizona n what there doing now in Kansas city.. things are brand new until there not n Eli like all the other greats will finish his career elsewhere, comeback 5 to 10 years laters sign a 1 day contract and retire as a giant.. have a nice half time ceremony and life will go on..
