When you move the main axle rod (as you did by accident touching it) and it moves freely up and down and makes metal sound - it's more than dead and need to be replaced. It means 1. There are no grease in it, and 2. it is worn out. The trans part is probably fine, but because of this axle situation you should feel vibration speeding up.

Mine has even more side to side and up and down movement. Fairly new cv axles and it happened all of a sudden. Very bad “wobbling” from 20-40mph. Figured it has to be the carrier bearings or something internal in the trans 👎🏻

@@keithrobinson2756 I have inspected them again, and after some research I figured out that a little bit of movement is not an issue(I have also send a video to my mechanic and he also confirmed that). The noise on my car was coming from the driver side front struts, I changed them and the noise is gone.
My issue was that I was feeling a very minor knocking noise and feeling on the gas and brake pedal when driving even on a minor bumpy roads.
I don't know the name of the part but in the suspension there is a white part some sort of hard plastic that one was broken and moving freely and that was causing the issue.

Believe it or not i have the same issue on my 99 Corolla 20valve and after weeks of trail and error i eventually decided to use my basic knowledge and got with my brother to remove and disassemble the gearbox and check the fault, so what i realised (long story ahead) is that the guy that did my gearbox a few months ago actually charged me for bearings and seals which he never replaced and also didnt mention that the gearbox was missing the magnet from the inside(he probably didnt reinstall it or possibly the previous people that repaired it never did either who knows) so eventually i stripped down the box and got to the differential/transaxle and noticed that the carrier bearings were in good shape(replaced it tho just for peace of mind) and i removed the spider gears and noticed that there is shims/washers/thrust washers that sit behind the spider gears and these wrre badly worn out so i began the hunt for new washers and during my travels i met a gearbox "expert" (also a salesperson so who can really say if he is an expert or just pushed a sale onto me) and this person advised that the washers are not a problem and the cause of the cv wobble is the differential/transaxle housing being worn out and i was obviously suspicious of his claim coz i dont trust salespeople so luckily i had my cv shaft with me and he showed me the difference between my wobbly diff and the 2nd hand diff which wasnt wobbly yet the spider gears were wobbly like how mine was but the cv shaft didnt wobble like how it was in my diff so after so proper inspection i realised that the diff was worn out.
And the play that the new diff had was what u can comfortably call "normal" coz the wobble that we have can never ever be normal coz can you imagine driving 160kmph with a cv shaft that wobbles so excessively by hand????
I hope to god that this helps u coz i know how u feel

@@michaelpatrick625 hi. I would think that these Toyota diffs wear out at that point coz the CV shaft basically runs against that bushing, and if I had to guess, I would say that the gearbox probably had a leak at some point of its life and it ran dry and the metal on metal contact caused that housing to wear out, and the unit on my corrola is a complete diff housing so there's no way to replace the bushing or possibly repair it, it might be repairable to some1 who has access to some magical tools , but would probably be better to buy a 2nd hand diff. Bare in mind I'm not mechanic, just a DIYer that has been ridden good and hard by local mechanics.
NB: let me save you and the world of noobs like myself a world of hassel if u ever decide to remove and teardown the c56 gearbox, please do not forget to find the 2 tiny ball bearing that sit on the selector shaft fork when u remove the main shaft and counter shaft Christmas tree 🌲,its tiny like the air rifle bearings.
