8 yrs later. If you're able to wiggle your inner cv axle stub just like this.. Then your transmission output shaft bearings, sleeves etc need redone. Symptom = speed related wheel bearing type of noise from front of vehicle that isn't wheel bearings.

I am replacing the cv axle seal on the driver's side front of a 2005 chevy trailblazer. After I got the seal that I had to order because parts stores do not stock this seal. I removed the old seal only to find a needle bearing in side the differential between the seal and the ring and pinion bearing. Mine car had the same noise and vibration and I'm sure that is where it is coming from. Because that needle bearing was shot completely. Had to order this as well. My question is, how time is the nut that holds the ring and pinion bearing in place supposed to be?

At first not really on turns just on acceleration I heard some crunching noises and I always heard some banging noises when I hit bumps but my stress ball joints in around the tie rods every bushings good but I do have some play and intermediate shaft now it sounds like something is knocking on the floor I mean bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang I can't imagine that intermediate shaft making all that racket with real bit of play side to side on an intermediate shaft

If you can see similar movement transferred to the other side inner joint it’s the transmission is bad.

My 88 Corolla has that much play. It’s normal for this car though but only on drivers side because that’s how the output bearings work

i have this issue too, gets the loudest at 80mph. i changed to new tires and it didnt help

That minor play on transmission is normal but the cv joint is well gone. Trust me

When you move the main axle rod (as you did by accident touching it) and it moves freely up and down and makes metal sound - it's more than dead and need to be replaced. It means 1. There are no grease in it, and 2. it is worn out. The trans part is probably fine, but because of this axle situation you should feel vibration speeding up.

I have the same problem and my trainsmision case makes a cracking noise when I stop the car. The Axels are new, I think is the shaft inside the transmission

Aftermarket made in China axle shafts are trash. Some platy is normal but that looks like too much at the transmission output.
