Great video! I work for airfield ops at SFO and the reason your flight had to take C to taxi out to the 28s was because we had a big portion of A closed for reconstruction (you can make out the lights and stuff in the video as you rotate). Because of that, ATC only had one useable taxiway for flights coming into the G ramp. Hence they sent you around the long way on C
Thank you! 🙂 Agree, aside from food having the whole row is just as good as business. Definitely more space to move around than in business class seats. Poor man's business class 😄
Done this flight (and the reverse) multiple times with United over the last 25 years. Always in economy. Started on a 747 (which I quietly miss). Never had any problems except with immigration in SFO. Up to 3 hours wait with a 6 am landing. Come on guys! Get your act together! On the last one to Sydney there were only 10 passengers in the rear economy section. Apparently there was an earlier flight (why I don’t know) and it was full. Landing a couple of hours later was no bother for us. Stretching out over the empty seats for 8 hours sleep was worth it.
@@NeilJR I too miss the 747s on this route. During this past winter (Northern Hemisphere) United used 2 daily flights between SFO and SYD and I had read somewhere that they had to use an extra 777-300ER and so they employed it on this route. But it is definitely nice to have your own row, poor man’s business class.
@@fatimav441 f First round the world flight in 1969. So have flown over all three oceans many times. You get used to it. And planes that are certified to fly over oceans always have an airport in their range if the need be.
It's very ironic and coincidental that this exact aircraft (tail number N2639U) in the video is the very exact plane that I flew on over a year ago. I flew on it in coach from EWR to SFO.
I went to Sydney way back in the early 90's. There was no direct flights btw SFO to Sydney but there was one from LAX. I was told back then it was the longest non-stop flight at that time. Thank you so much for watching! 🙂 Sadly though an upgrade was never offered to me. I'm not high enough on UA frequent filer status to be offered an upgrade 😢
Yes, you will get more points since you are traveling this long-haul trips. Along with getting more points there are great deals out there for Business Class and the prices to move up to Premium Economy are getting better. The extra leg room is a lot better on those long-haul flights.
It absolutely is, especially this 300ER series. It's my very favorite passenger jetliner as far as the appearance and the looks of it. I really love the swept back angled/beveled (raked) wingtips. Of course, this type of wing is also on the 777-200LR, but it looks even more awesome on the 300ER.

@@fatimav441 I don't have a good answer for you but I'll try. I think many passengers have gotten used to flying due to having taken many trips throughout the years or starting out when you are young so flying just becomes second nature. Also, it's important to recognize that flying is very safe these days. Stat wise, you're more likely to die in a car crash than in an aviation related incident. If you flew in the 70's it was a very dicey period to fly as there were many accidents but now the accident rate is so low. Furthermore, when flying over ocean, the engines must be ETOPS rated meaning that their reliability has to be tested to the extent that if one engine fails it has to fly on the other engine for at least 330 minutes. And there has been no incident of dual engine failure due to independent causes. So flying over the ocean long distances has been proven to be very safe.
