I’m flying from LAX-SYD in march 2025 with my mom. I’ve been really nervous because this is my first long flight and I have a slight fear of flying. This video has helped me a lot with what to expect. Thank you!
We are flying to Sydney next July for our 30th wedding anniversary. This will be our first trip to Sydney but our son flew to Melbourne a few years ago for work. He said it was the smoothest flight he'd ever had. Hope you have fun!
The a350-900 is the quietest and smoothest widebody I have ever flown. It is almost like you are not flying. I think you will have less anxiety than you think.
I suffered through a 15 hour Qantas flight from Sydney to LAX in the back end of a giant, two-story Airbus A380. It was the last international/intercontinental flight ever took in Coach, upgrading ever since to Business or First Classes. It was the most intelligent decision I've ever made in my career of flying. Yes, it makes all the difference -- and it's worth the extra expense.
Agreed! Thankfully I used points on this flight (and a payment upgrade), wished I'd done Delta One but it just couldn't happen. I want to fly Qantas one day :)
The A380 is a meat market in Coach. Avoid at all costs. Lufthansa, Qantas, even Emirates….it’s a horrible experience. Premium economy or Business for flights longer than 8 hours. You can use mileage and awards to get an upgrade. I flew Qantas first class and slept like a baby. I arrived so rested that I checked-in my hotel, took a shower and went out to town immediately.
Flew to Sydney on a Qantas a380 out of LA.... best flight ever! The plane is huge and didn't shake once during the flight. Flight attendants were super cool and let us help ourselves to snacks and alcohol throughout the flight. Meals were delicious too. I'd definitely recommend Qantas for your next trip down under.
I've flown the A380 and had the same experience, the plane did not shake once, it was great. I do want to fly QF's A380, gives me another reason to go to Australia :)
Was recommended this clip. As an Aussie, I use to fly SYD - LAX & SYD - SFO quite a bit for holidays. I only ever flew on United. Never had a problem with them. The reason your flight is overnight is that SYD closes between midnight and 6am for curfew, and most flights from the US land around 6am. The new Western Sydney International Airport (code: WSI) will be a 24 hour airport when it opens in a few years time.
Nice Delta SkyClub and their food selections did look good. Awesome outside bar area with the music and airport views. Yes, that's the life!!! The Delta A350-900 Premium Select seat does good for this long flight. Bummer the dinner entree was so bad but breakfast did look good. Great trip report on Delta from LAX-SYD.
I had to go there for work. 15 hour flight on a Delta 777. At least we got to go in Business Select or what ever it's called now. Australia is as beautiful as described.
Flying from LAX to Heathrow in two weeks, so this is perfect for what I’m in for. I’m 6’4” and a muscular 270lbs (1.93m and 122kg) so I really appreciate not being squeezed like a sardine for 11 hours.
During my 20-year career in the Army, I flew Continental, TWA, Pam Am, Eastern, Northwest Orient, Braniff and took a 7-day R&R trip to Sydney from Vietnam on World Airways. I figured I flew a total of about three trips around the world (at the Equator). Unfortunately, all my flights (except Northwest Orient from Seattle to Seoul via Tokyo) were military charter flights, so we didn't get any extras and there was only one class: We were packed in like SARDINES!!
i did this exact flight with my fiancé back in June! being a delta employee it was quite stressful due to payload optimization but we both managed to get the last 2 Premium Select seats going and coming back!
We will flight in March 15, 2025. Looking forward to our trip. Thank You for video of your flight, it really helped us on our seat selection. Safe Travels.
@@emmy_the_kittenn I regret to inform you that our plans have change and we will be flying to Auckland instead of Sydney. We want to Hbbiton while we are that side of earth. 23:19 Your comment about Business Class....I agree. Airlines have lost their collective fucking minds.... from LAX to MEL or SYD for a family of four they ask for anywhere from $55K on a good day to $80,000 on a shit day. Like who the fuck is paying that much money to fly business on these routes? I mean are there really that many people flyers who are paying that kind of exhorbintant sum?? Its unbelievable how airlines are getting away with those kind of airfares. Its a dream to fly business on this route but at ~$70K-$80K its just batshit crazy and makes no sense.
@@GenkisTravels yeah that’s the other aspect. It’s not like they’re giving you massages and other chef prepared meals at $80K. It’s still shit delta service with miserable flight attendants. The only advantage is that you get to sleep on a lie flat seat. But that too isn’t the best seat either.
I’m planning on going in December! I can’t wait. This will be my first time on a long flight, and I’m SO nervous. Just thinking about it makes me nervous! I’m hoping I can sleep most of the 14 hours, but I’m still very nervous. Your video did help calm my nerves a little knowing what to expect.
Maybe take some melatonin (or something to help you sleep) to help out, otherwise this flight will feel like eternity (on the return flight, that happened with me. haha)
I booked a round trip on Delta from LAX to SYD during Thanksgiving. I very much look forward to my first Delta ultra-long-haul international flight. I picked Delta out of United, AA, and Qantas offer the same route from LAX. I paid $1,250 for the main cabin.
I'm from the American South and, as we say down here because every DL flight we take requires a change in ATL: "If you go to h*ll, you go through Atlanta!" A little humor from over this way. Delta has really improved the last 20. years, both in service and quality of aircraft. I've flown it internationally from London and Paris, and round-trip to Buenos Aires. It's pretty "Meh.' Quite boring and average, but it "gets you there" (as the slogan of one of it's dumb ad campaigns said in its short-lived life). Tickets are not as inexpensive as they once were. My first flight as a teenager was $25 one-way to New Orleans from our state capital.
Nice video! The Delta A350 is such a nice aircraft, I hope to fly on it soon! I flew to SYD in Jan. 2023 on Hawaiian Airlines from Honolulu (on their A330), and was also in premium economy. Although I unexpectedly slept quite easily, I would have certainly enjoyed watching the Harry Potter movies had I stayed awake :)
@@GenkisTravels I enjoyed the flight! I thought that the service was great, as was the food. The amenities provided for the long-haul flight (blanket, pillow, etc.) were also quite handy. I hope that you enjoy your flight with them!
I flew premium economy with Qantas recently from SDY to LAX ( I rather any other airline but Qantas) unfortunately I was left with no choice. That flight reminded me every second why I didn't like them. I was served water from a "Pitcher" into my water bottle that I purchased before boarding, they said they had no water bottles or anything close to it. The food was "OK" , was expecting more! Thanks for your review!
@@GenkisTravels with all due respect, it shouldn't matter as they're just cheaping out. Rather disgusting if I may add. In this day and age, it should only be bottled. If I can get bottled water on a $75 ticket domestically on any airline, surely for several hundreds of dollars, they can give bottled water. No disrespect to you by the way. I love watching your vids 😃
We'll be flying on one of Delta's A350s later this year out of Atlanta - on our way to Athens, Greece. Can't wait to try Delta's Airbus fleet for the first time. The lone drawback: Our bird's configuration (the A350-900) is 3-3-3. Was hoping for the 2-4-2 so that my wife and I could be alone in our row. We chose row 36 which is an exit row with a lavatory right in front of us. At least we wont have anyone in front of us for the 10 hour flight.......
My first LAX-SYD was in November of 2001 -- almost 23 years ago ! ! United Boeing 747-400 not as quiet and refined as the modern planes (787/ a350) but still ok. It was the night that never ended.
I admire your courage to fly a US carrier international from a food/beverage service point of view. With prices as high as they are, I don't think it is wrong to expect decent food options and from what I am seeing from your videos and others, that isn't what you are getting! I had the privilege of flying when meal service was top notch but it was mainly on International carriers, not US carriers, with a couple of exceptions. No, I have not been to Australia even though it is at the top of my list, if and when, I do but I will be flying either Quantas or Air New Zealand with Air New Zealand being the 1st choice! Was DL really going to charge you $16,000 to upgrade to Business???? Thanks for your review....hope you had a good time!
Thankfully I used miles, otherwise I would of flown a non-US carrier lol. I want to fly ANZ, hopefully next year :) And yes, even the gate agent was shocked at the $16k price tag. Lol
ANZ is great, although the flight I took was brief and domestic -- from Auckland down to Queenstown. Lovely clean B737 with wonderful care by the flight attendants. I recommend it, and would fly it international to NZ, which is one of the most beautiful and intriguing nations I've ever visited,@@GenkisTravels.
In answer to your question, yes, I have flown to Australia, but not from the USA. I traveled to Sydney on U.S. Army R&R (Rest & Recouperation) leave from Vietnam in January 1971. The flight was on a military charter Pan Am 707, leaving from Da Nang, South Vietnam. About 8 hours later we were in Sydney Australia. The leave was for one week. I loved the country and the people, and would love to go back one more time, though its very unlikely to happen.
I've flown Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong, Qantas from LAX, Jetstar fron HNL (all economy). Qantas had the best food and in-flight experience out of the three.
I've made this trip a number of times, having flown Delta, United, American, Virgin Australia, and Qantas. In order of preference based on my experiences, I would choose (in this order) Qantas, United, Delta, American, and then VA last. Haven't flown the A350 (when I flew DA it was a B777-300ER) and would like to, but my present destination is MEL and Delta doesn't fly there. The food on my DA flight was subpar, too -- in fact, the only decent food I've had on going to OZ has been on QA and UA. My favorite aircraft is the A380, which is pretty fine and remarkably quiet, even back in cattle class where I sit. I'm flying QA DFW > MEL in the new year, in fact, B789 going and an A380 coming back.
That's quite the mileage you've been running! My regret is not flying QF to or from Australia, gives me another reason to go back. :) DFW to MEL is a LOOOONG flight, hope you enjoy! :)
Thanks for the review! i just have 1 question, so the delta sky club can be entered with purchase of delta premium select? or did you have upgraded membership with delta? thanks!
@@ibabyfighter Regular American Express Platinum. They now have capped the number of times you can go within a year. The Purple Delta Amex also allows some Delta Lounge visits in a year too.
Sydney looks and sounds like a place I may want to visit. Anything can happen. People say, expect the unexpected. By the way, does anybody know if there is an Outback Steakhouse in Sydney?
Excellent trip report! It’s interesting that the premium select meals are not served in china ware (like UA does). They seem to just be like economy class meals except for the metal cutlery in your first meal. Thanks for sharing!
Man, I went to the old Terminal 3 at LAX (Home airport) and hated the cramped feeling but LOVED the windows outside looking at 24L/R and the apron. I am flying with Delta less than a month from now and was excited to see the new terminal. Wished they were more windows! Also error: AeroMexico flies out of Terminal 2 as well!
Ah, I always thought they flew out of Tom Bradley International (I always see them there lol). Yeah I was a little disappointed in the gates area, how few windows there are.
@@GenkisTravels At least Pre Pandemic, AeroMexico was indeed in terminal 2. Not sure in recent days though. Tom Bradley does have some domestic flights too.
Thanks for posting. Question: Did Premium Select have their own bathroom or did you share with Economy? I'm flying the same plane to Johannesburg next month and considering Premium Select.
Flyingn Delta One Next week LAX - SYD Return. I really enjoy their product on that flight. I've done United, but feel the DLone product is far more superior.
@@GenkisTravels I've done premium. It's a pretty good product itself for sure. I usually take isle seat though, to easily get up without having to ask. Hope you had fun in aussie when you went.
14:15 good to know some people store their shoes there 😮. Protip don’t store anything you wouldn’t feel comfortable putting on the public restroom’s floor.
Great video. Thanks so much for posting. One correction: Your text in the description has Boeing B770-300ER. You'll probably want to change it to Airbus A350 :)
The problem is, I've had their Domestic First Class food and it was better than this. :D This flight at least is making me try other international airlines. :) Thanks for watching!
$16,000?! That is ridiculous!!!! I flew Finnair from HEL-LAX last November and the upgrade from economy to business was only $650! They had a great product as well!
American carriers are into dynamic pricing. Always higher than you want or expect. Lots of sucker-pricing hoping you are a business flyer and don't care about pricing since you don't pay the bill. Go back to their websites more than once and prices are almost always higher than the first visit. Gotta love cookies.
why anyone would fly Delta to Australia when there aree other options is beyond me,i flew first class on Delta from atlanta to seattle and the food was lousy
I only flew them because I got a great point redemption. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have flown them. Lol I try to fly international carrier as much as possible when I go overseas.
Protip: Take a McDonald’s Big Mac meal onboard for better food. I do this even when I’m flying Delta One and it tastes better than what’s prepared by their “Michelin” class chefs.
United’s Premium Economy is superior to Delta. Food on this flight was same as economy with an extra napkin and larger tray. A real joke for the price paid. 25:46
16.000 dolllars for a business class seat??? I'm paying 1.550 dollars for a business class seat from LA to Amsterdam. How on earth can that flight of yours be so much more expensive? It's not that much further away. 😮
It's because it was the day-of and there was just one seat left. If it was like $400 more, I would of thought about it. :D Who are you flying to AMS? KLM?
@GenkisTravels it is a Delta airplane but I did buy the tickets via KLM, plus its for the beginning of January 2025, then I fly back business class. On the way to the USA I fly economy, if there are more business class seats left when I go, I will see if I can upgrade for a good price.
DAL premium economy doesn’t look like an attractive product. Plastic cups? An expired chicken something? A burned pizza? Meals in carton containers? It’s a long flight. The least that they could do is improve their food presentation , quality, and upgrade to glass and metal cutlery. I’ve flown Qantas first class (airline employee non-rev) and American Premium economy. AA premium economy is way, way better than Delta. I flew UAL premium in 2014 and it was just as bad as Delta.
I was honestly surprised how bad things were for "Premium" Select. I wanted to fly Qantas but I just couldn't make it happen. It gives me an excuse to go to Australia again :)
United was only airline that flew into Sydney when I went to Australia in Dec 23 2014 it was great love service and Qantas in 2018 was a lot better because of the sexy accent of Australia flight attendant and pilot United had a big full entree like ribs or hamburger steak mash potatoes dinner a small snack and a full breakfast entree potatoes and omelette It was good Qantas had a similar Entrée Qantas had similar
Premium select looks like total crap to me..... what on earth do you get in economy if this is premium. I'm staying home. Done the LA Sydney/LA Melbourne route many times and said never again 10 years ago. It looks 10 times worse now. Better food in a suburban dead hole gambling pub.
DFW to MEL is a LOOOONG flight, hope you enjoy! :)
Interesting to see how Delta does on this really long haul flight! :)
Glad it’s helpful :) thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review! i just have 1 question, so the delta sky club can be entered with purchase of delta premium select? or did you have upgraded membership with delta? thanks!
Thank you!
I was able to get in because of the American Express Platinum. Unfortunately, Premium Select does not give you access to the lounge.
@@GenkisTravels Is this the delta american express plat? or just regular amex plat will do? thanks for the reply!
@@ibabyfighter Regular American Express Platinum. They now have capped the number of times you can go within a year. The Purple Delta Amex also allows some Delta Lounge visits in a year too.
I Have Experience Delta AirlinesA350-900 Premium Select Amsterdam-Los Angeles,I Like The Product.Great Trip Report
Nice! Amsterdam is on my to-do list. :) thanks for watching!
Is the bathroom close to your seat? Or is it for business class use ?
Sydney looks and sounds like a place I may want to visit. Anything can happen. People say, expect the unexpected. By the way, does anybody know if there is an Outback Steakhouse in Sydney?
Sydney is beautiful. Highly recommend.
There are a couple…I did not know they were there. Haha
Google your question for locations.
I like this flight and especially practicing Quidditch
Eyyyy nice :)
Excellent trip report! It’s interesting that the premium select meals are not served in china ware (like UA does). They seem to just be like economy class meals except for the metal cutlery in your first meal. Thanks for sharing!
Yep, it sure looks like it. It was rather disappointing. :(
Thanks for watching! :)
WHAT happened to the plates in Premium Economy
I *think* they're bringing them back.

They have bathrooms that are behind Delta One (so in between Premium Select and Delta One). Thanks for watching! :)
Those two people talked for most of the flight...Wow!
Yes they did :( lol
1998 LAX to Sydney via HNL on American & 1996 LAX/SYD via HNL on Continental
I miss Continental!
Did they announce when you crossed the equator?
They didn’t. They didn’t make too many announcements to not wake up folks
@@GenkisTravels OK, just wondering.
Do you have to be a member of the sky lounge?
No, there's a few ways to get in. I was able to get because I hold the Amex Platinum.
A great video and yes I like Harry Potter lol
Thank you! Harry Potter is great. :D
Flyingn Delta One Next week LAX - SYD Return. I really enjoy their product on that flight. I've done United, but feel the DLone product is far more superior.
Hope you enjoy! Wished I had flown Delta One on this flight
@@GenkisTravels I've done premium. It's a pretty good product itself for sure. I usually take isle seat though, to easily get up without having to ask. Hope you had fun in aussie when you went.
Awesome video!!! Where do you do the part of the flight route that appears at the beginning of the video and where do you edit it?
Thank you! That comes with iMovie (with MacBooks).
What date did you fly? I recently flew DPS and didnt get the Tumi bag :( or the slippers LOL
:O!
I flew them in February, what did you end up getting?
When I go to Sydney, I am flying First or Business Class!
i liked the flight and i do like harry pottter numbers 12 and 3
The first three are great! Thanks for watching!
14:15 good to know some people store their shoes there 😮. Protip don’t store anything you wouldn’t feel comfortable putting on the public restroom’s floor.
Wise words to live by :D
Flew LAX-SYD on PanAm 747SP, 1983. 15 hours is really routine these days…
Dang that's quite the adventure there :P
Great video. Thanks so much for posting. One correction: Your text in the description has Boeing B770-300ER. You'll probably want to change it to Airbus A350 :)
Ah! Fixed! :) thank you for the correction and for watching! :)
Sounds like a haamsandwiich on the pre-recorded msg, lol
Do you get lounge access with Premium Select?
You do not unfortunately.
Just booked this flight. Was it going out at 8 something at night?
I took it earlier this year, it flew out at around 11pm.
What month was this filmed?
Feb of last year.
Nice video. Definitely write a complaint to Delta on the chicken main course.
They would just give me 500 Skymiles, which are worth about 12 cents. :D Thanks for watching!
What you said,I have flown to Australia on Qatar Airways from Doha.
I fly Qatar next year to the Seychelles, can't wait. :D
Delta needs to go back to their pre pandemic levels for premium select. They essentially served domestic first class food for premium select.
The problem is, I've had their Domestic First Class food and it was better than this. :D This flight at least is making me try other international airlines. :) Thanks for watching!
thnx. excellent video. meal service a nightmare. so primitive
Thank you for watching! :)
I flew to Australia on British Eagle in 1966.
Oh wow, I had to google that airline! :)
Very similar captions and feel as Bkk112.
$16,000?! That is ridiculous!!!! I flew Finnair from HEL-LAX last November and the upgrade from economy to business was only $650! They had a great product as well!
That’s a steal! Delta will sometimes charge an absolute immoral amount of money sometimes.
Airline food in general is so bad since covid. You are in premium economy and this is the filth they serve you? I hope you complained.
I thought about complaining, but nothing will get done (they’d most likely give me some miles which is almost worthless these days lol)
Airplane is better than pre covid for me, just haven’t been on a US carrier
Protip: Take a McDonald’s Big Mac meal onboard for better food. I do this even when I’m flying Delta One and it tastes better than what’s prepared by their “Michelin” class chefs.
@@Omikoshi78 Which is sad to think about given how much they charge for the seat :D Thanks for watching!
@Omikoshi78 🤮🤢 My thoughts on McDonalds. Perfect way to have an upset stomach for the next 8 hours
United’s Premium Economy is superior to Delta. Food on this flight was same as economy with an extra napkin and larger tray. A real joke for the price paid. 25:46
I’ll need to try United’s Premium Economy. Delta left a lot to be desired. Thanks for watching!
Is Premium Select a business class??? A First Class??? In the video, it isn't both. I don't understand.
Delta One is their Business Class product. Premium Select is their Premium Economy product. Thanks for watching!
Im 6'4 flying to south korea in premimum select, wish me luck
Im 6’1 and my knees still hurt. I send you all the luck in the world! :D
I wish you could get a plain ole hamburger and fries on a flight. Or a steak and potatoes maybe.🤔
US based airlines make a terrible burger from what I hear haha. Maybe a non-US based airline can pull it off? :)
Without fail every single flight a baby screaming
As of late, my luck has been bad with having kids screaming :( lol thanks for watching!
Even regular economy tickets for this route cost upwards of $2K. Ridiculous that they can’t even serve edible food.
Yep. Thankfully I used points, otherwise I wouldn’t be too pleased. Lol
They got a lot of a-holes in Marina-del-ray!
Ahhhahahaha!
From LAX to Sydney you fly for almost 15 hours, and when you get there it looks like you are still in LA. 😅😅😅
Hah! Yeah it kind of does :D
$16,000 or $1600 as business class was only $5500
It was $16k, it’s why both myself and the check-in agent were shocked lol
Delta has no INTERNATIONAL FIRST CLASS CABIN. How primitve
Unfortunately. It’s all trending that way too, in the US at least.
United was only airline that flew into Sydney when I went to Australia in Dec 23 2014 it was great love service and Qantas in 2018 was a lot better because of the sexy accent of Australia flight attendant and pilot
United had a big full entree like ribs or hamburger steak mash potatoes dinner a small snack and a full breakfast entree potatoes and omelette
It was good Qantas had a similar Entrée
Qantas had similar
I should have flown Qantas :(. Gives me a reason to go again! :)
Why tease us with the good old days? Chances are slim to none of that coming back. Sad but true.
I only like Harry Potter sometimes as it’s getting old now.
For the amount of money you must of paid for this flight, the food looked crap!
*Thankfully* I used miles :D
*Would HAVE been better…* not “Would of…” Where’d you learn English, mate?
The terrible public education system in Los Angeles. :) thanks for watching!
Premium select looks like total crap to me..... what on earth do you get in economy if this is premium. I'm staying home. Done the LA Sydney/LA Melbourne route many times and said never again 10 years ago. It looks 10 times worse now. Better food in a suburban dead hole gambling pub. Imagine working as an attendant on such a flight... handing out rubbish complimentary(?) crap etc all night for 15 hours..... life is too short!!!!!!
:)) true. The meals prior to Covid looked so much better. Now it’s no different than economy.
DELTA, is not as hospitable, food is good, common , not impressive. . . I had better traveling . .
Same. I was expecting so much more from this flight. Thanks for watching!
@@GenkisTravels thanks

I can easily be pleased. Giving me half cooked chicken isn’t one way to do it. Lol
Your viewers really like to complain, huh? #firstworldproblems
Some do, some don't. No one is ever happy. haha
