Thank you so much for this video! I have the same machine that belonged to my great grandmother and had the same issue. We have probably watched your video at least 30 times but it is done! After fixing an issue with the bobbin positioning bracket (my fault entirely) this heirloom is running again. Thank you!
Hooray - That is amazing! Having such a cool family heirloom is truly a gift. Happy sewing, and enjoy that special connection to your great grandmother!
Congratulations on your successful repair and timing job! One of the things that separates us from the lower primates is our ability to create and maintain machinery. I'm still sewing on my mom's old 1961 Singer Slant-O-Matic 500A. I've found over the years that if I simply keep the machine clean and oiled, it suffers very few failures. The failures that it has suffered over the decades have been minor, and fairly easy to repair myself.
I've just done the exact same job with the 427. I managed to do mine without removing the front plate thank goodness. The cog I bought was too tall and hubby ground it down a few mm for it to fit well. Your machine sounds lovely when it's stitching. It' s nice to save these solid sewing machines.
Wow. You are an absolute legend. 🙏🙏🎉👏👏👏👍💞 What an incredibly talented and resourceful young lady you are. I'm in awe. I've got a few vintage machines, one a black Singer 99K in mint condition (hand crank) and a Husqvarna 19E zig zag model which is currently in the shop for repair, due to a broken reverse button. I played around with it, but no joy. Love your channel. ✨💖
Thank you so much for your kind comments! What a nice way to start the new year. Your machines sound amazing, and best of luck with the repair. If the thrift store has it in the cards, I hope to pick up another one to work on soon. I love chatting about vintage sewing machines!
I found a 401A that was locked up for a great price, included table too. I got it all cleaned up and loose again, but wouldn't do a stitch. So I took it into a shop to have it all set to specs, only the repair guy had no clue how to do it. Timing was off where the hook ended at 180 degrees away, etc. Anyways, long story later it's running beautifully now, and its my favorite machine!! I use it almost every day doing repairs/alterations/mending for a local laundromat. Just thought I would compliment you on your presentations, videos, etc. You have such a beautiful spirit. 🙏
Yep, it's a PITA to do. I had to replace the gears on my aunt's Singer 538 which necessitated a timing adjustment afterwards. Took me quite a while to get it done. Thankfully I was able to replace the gears with a really nice nylon conical spline set. They run a lot quieter, engage more positively, and don't have as much lash to deal with. Cool to do, and now I know how to do it again in future, but yeah, took a while. Great work learning this difficult repair!
No it's not hard at all. Just keep your grub screws loose enough to turn the bobbin case and make it so the hook comes around very slightly above the eye hole and tighten it up carefully and should be fine
Thank you for your video! I have the exact same machine that was my aunt's, my cousin had it in the garage, it's in my basement but I love the vintage machines, I have a few😂😂 lol. I have newer ones but I prefer the older ones. The problem I have is I have a small home and can't set them all up! My son also has EDS. Thanks for showing how to replace the gear!
Glad I could help! I am just about out of room in my small space as well - I will probably have to get creative as to where to store them if my collection continues to grow! Thanks for watching and for your comment! Best wishes to you and your son,
I hava done this twice. Once with 3d printed gear while waiting for the part from China. And then second time was obviously when I replaced the 3D printed gear to the Chinese one. First time was hard. Second time was super easy.
I got a singer touch n sew 750. I think I got the timing set but needle is bottoming out. I've adjusted tick marks but it's still not cooperating? I think I need to remove needle threader to get it adjusted better
Congratulations on your 750! What a great machine, although I’ve never had the pleasure yet myself. Please keep me posted as the refurbishing journey continues! It’s such a great feeling to get a problem figured out. I’ll be cheering you on!
Too funny i literally just got done retiming my Singer HD. You breathe on this thing it goes out of time. A clue to me when it's going out is my auto threader don't immediately line up with eyehole. If i have to move handwheel it needs timing.
I I’m glad to hear you re-timed your machine, too! that is a great top about the auto-threader not lining up when the timing is off. Happy sewing, and happy timing! 🪡 🧵
Fantastic video, thank you! Great film editing too!
Thank you sew much! I appreciate your encouragement!

Not much that compares with a fix-it-yourself success! Thanks for your comments!
Nicely done! ❤️ Congratulations! 🎊🎉
Thank you sew much! This machine has a name “Dirtie Gertie” and she is loving being back at work!
Currently struggling with timing on a 500a
The struggle is real! I hope you get it figured out soon, and if there’s anything I might be able to answer that my video didn’t, please ask.

Oh that’s awesome! It is such a nice machine. Well done!
I can't beehive how dedicated you are this once dirty old non working machine - atta girl Montana < 3
I know right?! It is hard to beehive 🐝! 😂
Who knows what other hidden talents I will uncover next?!
Wow. You are an absolute legend. 🙏🙏🎉👏👏👏👍💞

Thanks for the info about the nylon conical spine set. I’ll keep that in mind, as I feel this might not be the last time I replace this gear!

@@SaltMinerOU812 well sure, make it all easy why don't you... XD

Excellent ! Valuable, helpful video with some natural humour . Thanks a lot. Colin UK

How cool! That’s very clever to use a 3D printed one in the pinch. It feels good to fix things!
👍🏼
Someone gave me the same model machine. Hope it never needs a gear replacement!
Oh how awesome - it is such a fantastic sewing machine! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you! Enjoy!
Yes I have.
Nice work by you! 😀 👏🏻 🎉
You are a fun one! 😁🙋🏼♀️
Thank you sew much! We have a lot of fun around here, sewing and tinkering!
Well done lady, love it.
Thank you very much for the kind words! Happy New Year to you!
You’ll find my machine work on “Sew Far North” if your interested.
Checkin it out now! So cool!@@sailingtessbesssewfarnorth1746

@DisabledAdventures thank you. The best part it was a 5$ machine. Came with manual and tons of bobbins.
Woo hoo!!! $5 is unbeatable! 🧵 🪡 @@joycedollar1198
But my question is did that get rid of the electrical smell? 😮
Yes it sure did! Sorry I left that bit out!
I can't even fix the copy machine at work when it jams!
😂
You are so totally a badass vintage girl
From one badass to another -- Thank you so much!
