Thank you!! Just having someone confirm the correct needle size [ DBX1 !!! finally a single system number to reference ] ...has spared me so much confusion! I just brought my (freshly cleaned, de-rusted, and hopefully put back together correctly) 1920 31-15 across the country in a checked suitcase to set up in my new apt. So nice to have a clear, concise explanation without a ton of dithering (first video in a long time I could stand to watch at normal speed...haha). Cheers to you!
My 31-05 would always cut the upper thread, no matter how much I cleaned and adjusted. A year later I discovered that the upper thread had over time sawed a tiny slit into the lower guide of the front cover...
i have a 31k47 with the kick foot but the pressor foot only lifts up 3/8 how can i make it more like the one youre using 5/16 will get more under the foot if theres sum kinda mod

Good information FYI> Know much about a 188k1 where the bobbin tension (even when maxed) still is pulled to the top of the stitch? Variations in needle, pressure foot, top thread tension, thread size for both top and bottom, all result in the same poor stitch.
