Through the turns, most were done between 60-80mph - mainly because that was all the tires could handle on THIS day due to the tires being well worn & not a lot of driving on the track the previous couple of days, so not a lot of fresh rubber. Question: the major turn @6:26 what’s up the quality of that turn? I’ve always wondered because every video I’ve seen of a car going through this corner looks like the bumpiest ride ever? It seems to be an iconic piece for the track, why not pave it smooth? Any reason? Just curious.
You are correct on the "iconic" piece. That turn is called "Carraciola-Karussell". Most folks simply call it "Carousel". It is a section that was originally paved in 1932 & it is named after a famous German/Italian race car driver, Otto Wilhem Rudolf Caracciola. He was a famed driver from the late '20s all the way till 1952. The curve is an iconic one that everyone who hits the Nordschleife looks forward to. It is paved with sections of concrete slab which makes it bone jarring. It is also fairly steeply sloped opposite the downward slope of the hill it sits on - which makes it even more crazy. If you dive in, you're committed - if you allow understeer (or just plain centrifugal force) to get your right side tires over the edge & onto the oppositely sloped black top run off area, it can "throw you out" of the turn due to a severe lack of contact patch on your right side tires, thus less grip. Hope that explains it to you. Thanx for watching!
its a shame the track was closed for a couple days prior to this 2 hr window (+ we've had a heat wave going here in Germany), so the track was very slick. So yeah, he was driving BOTH our asses off, lol! Can't tell you how disappointed I was when we had to stop for the caution.....was a fun run! thanks for watching.
I was stationed there for almost 5 years. When I found our we could just go drive the thing, I was like, damn we should have this in the states! It’s a real eye opener. My favorite races are those that run multiple classes on a road course. That’s real driving. Thanks for sharing this. I forwarded it to my kids. I used to tell them about driving and riding on this track. It’s something special. Cars today are so much more attuned than the late 80’s early 90’s. Back then, it was about rowing gears through the track. I’d been looking forward to driving my friends M3 on it. Desert Storm delayed his delivery and ended up not getting it until stateside.
yes, this was a "perfect storm" scenario for me - being able to afford it, get it shipped & be stationed here to enjoy it on the European roads....icing on the cake was being less than an hour from the Ring. My very first lap on it was in the passenger seat of my friends M3....where as the Hellcat is a "sledgehammer", the M3 is a "surgeons scalpel". I was immediately hooked, lol! & yeah, while I enjoy just about all forms of racing (drag, NASCAR, Formula), but I love the GT races. Thx for watching!

glad you liked it.... & the Mustang owner is a bud of mine, we actually have several different "flavors" of them here in our group (GT, GT350, GT500, Roush Warrior) & they're all great cars...... thanx for watching!
yes, I think also. Very well driven that 2,5 tons beast, the guy knows the track. I love the Challenger, no matter the basic, Hellcat or Demon - main thing a V8!
Yeah she was, lol! Nothing like having bald rear tires.... thing is, all those times you HEAR the car screaming/groaning are nothing compared to how it FELT! Thanx for watching!
I'm not much of a muscle car guy, but i tell you what. I saw 2 videos today, 2 guys were driving the same car, a GT3 RS and changing seats. Those were crazy laps and as scary as these coz they were driving that car on its limits too. But still... keeping a car like this on the track while you hear those tire screams and rumble... Hats of man, that was some pristine driving. And what a great time with a friend!
That was cool , it highlighted what Dodge and BMW are really known for. HC was crazy fast in the straights and BMW was on rails in the turns. HC is a drag car and BMW is a track car.
Thoroughly enjoyed that! Humor-wise as much as driving-wise. Better than any vid game I've ever played right there. That was some real shit!!! Thanks!! Dennis ATX
the tires were well & truly done by this lap & the track was very dry/slick as well (Ring was closed the previous day & only open for a 3 hour window this day, so hardly any rubber laid down) so yeah, the tires were howling, lol!
I see where the Ford Shelby GT350R still holds a top 100 fastest Nurburgring lap time (set in 2015 placing it 38th), but I can't find a Hellcat anywhere on the list.
Actually its #42 @ 7:32.19. The Shelby GT350 is a purpose built TRACK car... the Hellcat isn't.....thus why you won't find it there. But considering the Charger is a 4 door sedan, it gets around the Ring pretty well. With the right tires & driver it should post around a sub 8 min lap (better than a Focus RS or a Mustang GT Performance Package). Oh, & since you want to throw out times.... Viper is #7 & #11......just saying!
I give him (Mustang driver) a bunch of light hearted grief, but he's a good guy. Truth is I appreciate pretty much ALL cars, but I'm a Mustang snob....my best friend here (until his recent departure) had a Shelby GT500 that was tricked out & pushing over 750hp. He was the one who got me into drag racing. Loved that car (& miss my bud!). Thx for watching & keep your eye out for videos down the road from the Mustang - he's got a nice little grocery list of track mods pending so we'll see how he does!

I'm not one of them, but I'm sure it's because the title implies they were neck-and-neck with a Mustang for an entire lap, when it was just one overtake.
Thx for your response. I appreciate it. Tell Jon he has a fan. This summer I’m going to a track near me. Lime Rock. That track will never compare to the Ring. But its a start. I’ve seen the light. Keep the videos coming. Peace ✌️
the one @ the 4:14 mark was MUCH worse, lol! He gave it almost full throttle coming out of the turn & based on his previous 2 laps, it SHOULD have held, but again, there wasn't a whole lot of fresh rubber down on the track & it was very warm & those poor 295s just couldn't hold it. LUCKILY, Jon is a helluva driver (& the car is surprisingly well composed & forgiving) & he kept her pointed in the right direction....thx for watching & as a NOLA boy, love the name!
Bigg Eazzy , the driver must know the handling of the HellCat like the back of his hand and he must have spent a lot of time on the Nurburgring as well. That passenger experienced one hell of a ride.
Steve G It was my 3rd time behind the wheel of the Hellcat this summer. The car is predictable, and FUN. The slippery parts were surprising but I was alert to it.
9wizzards , I've seen a few videos of Hellcats losing there composure when the driver applies too much throttle but with a skilled driver a Hellcat can give a hi end import heartburn. I have to take a trip to the Nurburgring in the near future. All the best.

@@danielshwarts1737 It's hard to translate through a video, but under-steer is a thing with lots of cars. Even sports cars. The STi understeers a lot in stock trim as well. It's easy to understeer a Vette depending on your driving cornering style. I bring STi up because lap time wise I would say they are about equal. Can a 5000lb car match something as refined as a STi? Yes. Yes it can. It's not a one trick pony, and it handles very very well for a car of its size.
@@9wizzards i know how understeer works, i race in 125CC race karts (OK karts if you know) and basicly anything can understeer, i drove an 04 sti and i know how it handles but a VW gti club sport is faster around the ring than a hellcat.. a FWD car with a 2 liter 4 cylinder making 300 HP is around 15 seconds faster.. it just shows how bad the charger is on a track.
You did as I predicted only an excellent driver could do; you massacred the straights and made up for the hard sharp turns. Beautifull work predicting the understeers. The BMW did what it was supposed to do. GOod driver and kept you in your place; doing 150 on a straight. Respect.
Like Sabine Schmitz showed, just about any car can look fast if there is a good driver behind the wheel, & Driver Jon is a very good driver. I wish he was able to turn some laps with the car as she is currently setup. When this lap was filmed, it still had pretty much stock brakes & fairly worn out tires. I have since upgraded the braking system - so no more brake fade by mile marker 9. She will never be a road course "track car" (because I don't want to gut her & throw around $15k in upgrades to her, like some folks have done - & they do very well in races), but she will def put a smile on your face when driving it on a road course. Nowhere do I claim they handle better than all else but that they can hold their own, a concept that a lot of halfwits, yourself included, can't seem to comprehend or pick up with below average reading comprehension skills. Talks about EGO cars and says he "owns" a 340 and X6 hahaha I love it and the Mazda isn't your car, ok it will still get beat around any track by a Durango or GC. Book it sweetie. I love the type of people like you, talk the biggest shit but are nowhere to be found on track day :( But it's abundantly clear you are the one going strictly off of Motor Trend articles if this is the best you have as an argument. You go ahead and believe what you want, I'll continue to run my SRTs at the track and beat cars and SUVs I'm not supposed to with or without your approval :)
Sean Walters Okay look here you stubborn fuck, firstly, I drove the Charger hellcat about a month ago. Where do I even start, ride height, psi, dude really? It sat on Pirellis which my friend said it eats through quicker than you can imagine. Lots of power all to the rear wheels, constantly spinning, you cannot put that power down, one. Two, taking it through turns the rear end waves back and forth the steering was complete shit and its fucking heavy! You really feel the weight. The acceleration once it got going was the only thing it has going for it. The cars setup is awful, the suspension harsh and it rolls like a fucking boat in corners. I can go on and on about the driving characteristics but what really pissed me off is build quality. Up here in Canada we have lots of salt on the ground, the thing is falling apart, rusting, the interior is cheap and plasticy. The technology hardly works for fuck sake. The seats were shit I slid around in them like I was driving a 70s cadillac. The steering wheel was pealing after 2 years of ownership haha! The brakes were shit and faded so fucking fast when the car was being pushed a little harder than your usual daily commute to work. Lots of noise but a c63s got me off the line and left me in the dust. The thing is stupidly overpriced. Taking it on the track was even worse, “engine temperature high” or whatever constantly. The thing couldn’t last 4 laps around trackday Mosport. Thats just the charger. The cherokee srt was even worse, that car was literally one of the worst cars I have ever been in. It does nothing right, its performance is shit, its comfort is shit, its quality is a complete disaster just like any other jeep or dodge. You have never been in any german car clearly. “Can hold their own,” they cant hold shit. Its overpriced, overrated and gets eaten by literally any other car in the same class. I like how you are still comparing the durango with the cx5 that really makes me laugh, one car is made for fuel efficiency, reliability and is actually affordable for what you get. The durango is inefficient is built like shit and it cannot perform, deja fucking vu. Try driving one of the miatas around a track for example, it does everything it is supposed to do but better and its not overpriced and overrated. There is something called balance my friend get that concept through your thin skull. I had no confidence pushing the charger through corners. Its unpredictable, it slides around, rear end plays with you. If your land yachts arent understeering they are oversteering or even better sitting in the shop being fixed. The srt’s talk shit and pick on toyotas and mazdas by egotistical fucks like you, but when the bmws mercs audis come out to play the srts quietly go home because they know they will be fucking killed. Thats only the beginning my friend, I can go on and on for hours about those shitboxes. Calls me a self-proclaimed expert, I could probably take you in my diesel Jetta you keyboard racer.
Just imagine if the Charger was tuned more for actual track instead of drag racing. It would be a MONSTER on the track. That much power on a lighter frame, and better suspension would be crazy. You can see the weight when he’s hittin the brakes, hittin those corners at those speeds and when he had those weight transfers when the back end wanted to swing loose. Crazy good driving.
He pegged a 1.16 Left lateral G, a 1.06 braking G & a 1.23 Right lateral G - not too bad considering the weight of the car & current set up. Brakes are not bad, but better fluid & steel brake lines would significantly help. Different rear end link sway bars, diff brace, 3.09 rear end, front strut brace would all definitely help shave some time off the laps. There are photographers along the Ring who take & post pictures of your car that you can purchase - I have seen about a dozen so far, with about 1/2 of them in the turns - you can see the wheel load & tire lift the chassis is going through - the track can be brutal! Thx for watching!

You would be correct! Driver Jon is a semi-pro driver & former racing instructor who has spent a lot of time here at both the Nurburgring Nordschleife & GP track as well as numerous other tracks around the world. And he's a great friend! Thanx for watching!
4:15 Most ppl talk a good game about driving, but you have skills & knowledge on hard driving such as ratcheting the wheel if the rear end cuts loose. It was a pleasure to watch.
thanks - Jon is a great driver & does an awesome job passing along information & guidance. He's helped out several of us here - its a shame he had to go but I'm hoping he'll be back next season to try out some of my mods & push the car to new limits!
To me That's instinct... some have it....some don't!
Props to you guys that looked scary, especially at 1:57, LOL! You guys were hilarious the whole way too!
Its more "harsh" than scary. The video really doesn't do justice to how violent a really hard core lap can be. I guess its why so many people hire Ring Taxis to take them out - its like a 9 minute roller coaster. & yeah, Jon & I have a similar sense of humor & we both love cars - I'm really going to miss not having him around - hopefully I'll have the car modded for the track when he comes to visit next summer! Thanks for watching!

Actually, no lie. It is. Work of art.
I just bought a 392 scat pack. This car is sick fast. Nice to know that it can handle pretty fucking good for two tons of fun.
Bavarian MOPAR Works thank you so much for taking the time to respond, awesome to know! 👍🏻
Dude can drive!!!
Look at his right forearm while he's turning left.
Fuck yes he can! He grabbed ahold of that fat booty and made her his bitch!
Not gonna lie, I puckered up on that first big save. Great driving!
I’ve driven this track. He’s driving his ass off!
its a shame the track was closed for a couple days prior to this 2 hr window (+ we've had a heat wave going here in Germany), so the track was very slick.

HC is a drag car and BMW is a track car.

was a great day for both of us (& our other friends who were out on the track). thx for watching!
Guy definately knows this track, look at those lines. The tire chirps and squeals are unavoidable with a street beast.
the tires were well & truly done by this lap & the track was very dry/slick as well (Ring was closed the previous day & only open for a 3 hour window this day, so hardly any rubber laid down) so yeah, the tires were howling, lol!
I love how much fun you guys were have at 5:25 and after, super great banter back and forth!

I mean have you seen the video? It's all over the place and absloutly awful understeer.

She will never be a road course "track car" (because I don't want to gut her & throw around $15k in upgrades to her, like some folks have done - & they do very well in races), but she will def put a smile on your face when driving it on a road course. Just because YOU can't handle them doesn't mean they can't be handled. Meanwhile, you haven't presented one thing that even remotely suggests you've driven one. What setups did you run? I want to know what your setups were before you spout any more BS to me. Ride height, PSI settings, etc. (There's a lot to list if you've driven one). I don't care about what other garbage you "own" (probably don't) as it is clear you haven't driven an SRT around a track. I love the type of people like you, talk the biggest shit but are nowhere to be found on track day :(
But it's abundantly clear you are the one going strictly off of Motor Trend articles if this is the best you have as an argument. You go ahead and believe what you want, I'll continue to run my SRTs at the track and beat cars and SUVs I'm not supposed to with or without your approval :)
Say No to Autonomous Driving Ford, Chevy and Dodge have/had models that prove otherwise. 🙄
Driver is fckn FOCUSED 2:58 "Nice save... like I was telling you about the rear tires" *SILENCE*
Kind of surprised it wasn’t that slow, but still would have been beaten by its German counterparts.
The Bondurant Racing School uses Hellcats and 392s as well. And the Demon isn’t nearly as bad as many think.
A 9sec car, stock from factory, with warranty, for under $100k!? Please explain how that's not badass?
Demon is meant for the 1\4 straight, not handling.Purpose

It's absolutely a purpose built car and the purpose is straight line speed. A purpose built gt350 would go around the ring a lot quicker.
392 is an amazing car. I just got a 2019 charger scat pack brand new. Amazingly fast.
Yea, it's called a corvette.
South Texas lmao you might as well be saying "just imagine if that charger was a completely different car, and not a charger."
Dude can drive. Impressed! Love the vid with the focus RS. What all had you done to the car in that vid?
Monster? It would've been better but not a monster lol.
“NOW THATS HOW YOU DRIVE...from now on, THATS HOW YOU DRIVE!!” *Will Smith voice from Bad Boys 2*
That mustang said, “Oh shit here comes a slippery boat.”
I see many people talking about the handling of the car, but have you noticed how much fun they're having?
"Smiles per Gallon" is what it's all about, lol! Thanx for watching!
