Thank you for putting up this review. I have been searching for the very review you did for the Renntech ECU mod for this engine. Nothing close to your detailed review. I have the same engine in my '12 E550 Cabriolet. I've been considering the upgrade for it but wanted more info. Thanks again for a job well done.
Before AMG was a factory option they were an independent tuning company who sold AMG cars from their own facility. In Germany if you make extensive mods (engine, tranny, suspesion etc) to a vehicle, the tuner get have their brand recognized as an independent manufacter hence AMG. MB had no affiliation with AMG during this period. AMG was founded by 2 partners and when MB purchased the company the 2 AMG partners broke up.....1 of the partners went on to form Renntech.
I have a '13 CLS550 4matic with the updated Renntech tune, the updated plugs, air filters, and the Renntech exhaust, on 265/20s in the front and 295/20s in the rear. Absolute rocket. Needed more aggressive pads on the brakes. Great review.
You guys need to upgrade your driveshaft and diff. as well before you end up twisting the driveshaft or ruining the teeth in the diff. over the long haul. 700ft lbs on a driveshaft and diff. that was engineered to handle less than 500ft lbs is concerning. Everyone updates the engine without considering the driveshaft and diff. (especially a 200 to 250ft lb increase).
@@TRICKDAWG - I'm going to upgrade my 2009 SL550 (19" 5 star AMG rims--> sports pckg) with a Renntech ECU upgrade. The car only has 13.7k miles on it...yes, 13,700 miles on it. So the ECU upgrade is a modest 405hp and 415ft lbs from the original 381hp and 391ft lbs-->no need to upgrade the driveshaft or diff.
Just bought my 2014 35,000 mile CLS 550 in Diamond White and Sport Black seats. I avoided the 2015 and newer models because Mercedes screwed up the styling after that.

mercedes has a lot of motors that are detuned. I too like the 4.7 variant for the stock psi on the turbos are very low which allows a simple tune to produce big results. in a car that's 4500 lbs the torque is more important than the hp so yes the 700 ft pounds really moves that heavy mass. My brother has the 4.7 in his 13 sl and he has 150,000 miles on the car without any problems. A great motor and a simple upgrade with big results! thnx

After reading the tune description on the RENNTECH website, I noticed you have to use 93+ octane on that specific tune. Do you adhere to that or are you running standard premium? As states in the notes section below the the tune..."Our numbers will be dependent on conditions and fuel quality. 93+ Octane gasoline is mandatory with this Performance Upgrade. States known for poor fuel quality have to be supplied with a lower power setup. Please call for details and Race fuel options." This is what's holding be back from the upgrade. Thoughts???
drew Cut premium in GA is 93. That is what has always been run in this car. California is the only state I know of with 91 as premium, they would need a different tune
yea... so I only have 2 options kinda close to my house. I might play it safe and get the lower tune or just not. that price point is so high for not much gain. I don't think I'll have close to the fun driving with that tune as you do with yours. new wheels instead! lol thanks for the reply.
I may go to Mercedes of Buckhead, as well, for my 2012 CLS550. I spoke to Kevin Ingold at their speed shop and he quoted me $3,400 for the ECU tune and installation along with warranty. I called RENNtech in Miami and they told me the ECU tune will shave a 1/2 second off of the 0-60 time and the speed limiter would be bumped to 186mph, which happens to be the tire's speed limit of the Y-rated Continentals. So the 0-60 time should improve from 4.9sec to 4.4sec. Insane. Does the gas mileage stay the same, if you drive normally?
How much did the tune overall cost? I have a 2014 and am thinking about it. Do you need stage 1 first or can you jump just to the ECU upgrade (renntech) stage2? Curious because it seems like for 2600, you can get the stage 2 chip. I thought the stage 2 tune needed an exhaust upgrade.
Chris Estevez Renntech refers to one as an intermediate upgrade and the other as simply an ECU upgrade with 707tq; that one you can do with no other mods. It costs about 3k installed at the dealer and takes 24-48 hours. Dealer informed me that it would not affect warranty. I think it's one of the best mods you could ever dream up for this car
The ls460 made almost 400 hp with na 4.6 . What can you ask for more ? My 550 has similar power but has twin turbo so I really think Mercedes didn’t do too well with this .
Hey, does the tune deal with the usual Mercedes throttle delay? Hopefully, that would keep me from buying one, this is one of the worst brands for this issue. Hopefully the tune fixes it. Thoughts?
And you can get more hp out of that engine, I have a 14 E550 cabrio and it has 516whp, only tune & exhaust. Stock down pipes, stock intercooler, stock turbos.

Maybe I missed it in the video. How much was the Renntech performance upgrade?
About $3000
Thank you for the review, but is it a good daily driver car
Yes
Four door coupe of sedan ? 🙃🤪
Is this car expensive to maintain
it could be if the driver is careless just like with any other car. Regular maintenance is all you need.
stop talking bruh and show us the damn thing fly!!
The intro unnecessarily long
Bro the Quality wasn't the best Maybe it's me because I watch on a i mac 5k
Rocco Lindeque something happened with this video when I went to upload and it took FOREVER! I'm just glad it uploaded at all.
That's cool bro keep posting The great content ,it would be nice to see more videos during the week maybe 2 a week and just watch where you put the GoPro around the car specially around that that neighbourhood just for the sun
Rocco Lindeque thanks for the feedback man. As far as content during the week, are you thinking more reviews or just vlog style updates on our cars?
No Wheel Drive 229
Hey bro saw I just saw Ds break down video
Feel bad for him but for the type of videos i think everybody would enjoy is The things that they don't tell you , like changing all four wheels on the Audi and with the clutch cost .
What do you guys think about all the latest cars out and coming they all look the same as in the interior
less talking, show more of the car..do not want to see a video of you .
disco dave lmao
A 4door coupe 😂
What's funny?
Yep.. Coupe doesn't mean its a 2 door.. It means the front doors they don't have frames
Why the fuck do black people love CLS's and 6 series BMW's?!?!?! I don't get it. Please explain. Is it because they are flashy and not necessarily car enthusiast cars?
I’m not black and I still think that the CLS is one of the nicest cars that Mercedes has ever made.
I’m not talking about the numbers, it’s the feel of the car itself. I’ve had several fast/powerful cars, plus six MB’s, and this is my favorite by far.
I haven’t tried the cls63 yet….
Hhhhhmmmmmmm...... Lexus LS or GS350 ?
Jus Rarsh I gotta be honest. I was a Lexus guy hands down. However I bought a Mercedes and haven't looked back. Lexus will ALWAYS get you there, however it's the best or nothing.
@@Oneshotup so is the best or nothing reliable with you? Which car and how many years
KP-48 very reliable. I started with an 05 E500 then went to a 2014 E Coupe and then now just purchased a GL550 I love them. No problems out of all three.
@@Oneshotup great thanks
