- In this dog training video, we go over how to teach a dog to stay in the down position for longer periods of time, also known as Duration.
Holding the down position can be challenging for many dogs and puppies. It's understandable, because lying down is the most relaxed physical position, and so if the puppy is excited, or anxious, or unsure, or anything other than completely relaxed, they might have a hard time staying there, even while you're standing right next to them. They might also be anticipating your next command, so they want to jump up so they can do whatever that might be quicker.
Either way, staying in the down position is the purpose of teaching them that, so this video can help. We'll be using treats, and turning this into a relaxing situation, so we can help build the dog's focus in you and their ability to hold the position longer. And this method can be used for any stationary command, not just the down cue.
