No A Soul Can't Be Cut 😔
No return to ashes 😔
friendly reminder that the composer of this OST is also the composer of ToonTown's soundtrack, which was the only other "big" song project he'd worked on before this.
Clearly he was toon enough
Those gosh darn cogs
God I should get back into TT rewritten...
He had also NEVER done metal before period, which is insane.
We found him guys, we found max0r
crazy how this was the first time this composer had done metal music
Its barely metal more industrial
Calling this metal is a stretch, as good as it is
@@peytonmcclain6668 i feel like it definitely has some cyber metal moments
One of my favorite things about Collective Consciousness is that it fits 1:1 with All I Want for Christmas
You are not kidding. 👍🏽
*We are enlightened masses*
Maxor?
This soundtrack came out alongside the game in 2013, at the peak of dubstep's popularity, which is why so many of the tracks are so wub-heavy. It's a testament to the compositions that this album is still considered to be 100% bangers 11 years later.
Also, the lyrics to "Collective Consciousness" are *terrifyingly* prescient.
Of course they are. The systemic issues persist with the system. And in the 10 years since the song was made they became only more alarming and evident.
i would argue that the game is about cyborgs fighting and quite futuristic that the electronic elements of the song a representation of that
@@ITheWalkingDeadI my man
@@ITheWalkingDeadI so this tells me you either didn't play the game or didn't pay attention to the story.
Finally, my persistent asking for this has pulled off! Thanks for this!
Good job to at least 200 of you.
I love how fluid these songs are, as someone who has played this game multiple times its insane to me how well these songs match their bosses. Even to the point that the songs seem to match how each boss dies.
Ray dies being overwhelmed by a greater predator, completely overwhelmed with Raiden's power
Mistral's charm fails to work and she bites off more than she can chew when Raiden outwits her and uses her own weaponry to kill her, stopping her deadly rampage
Monsoon seems to just give up, finally happy to be dead with a smile on his face, his ending is happier than the rest
Sundowner dies as he lives, embodying the cruelty and hate of war and innocence, he meets his end violently and with a almost childlike glee, and for style points, being slashed in half like he did to so many others
Sam dies still confused, he is a man of principle and will, having such a enormous amount of power despite not being augmented, yet he is bested by Raiden and their dance comes to a sudden and powerful end, completely destroying everything Sam believed in
Khamsin dies believing and fulfilling his doctrine of Freedom, that any creature no matter how small being able to claw freedom and power to break the bonds of slavery is a "damn good mutt"
Armstrong's 2 song fight is incredibly complex and masterful. From starting off as exactly the type of tyrant you expect him to be only so much worse. Then ripping away the facade to reveal the ultimately too human man overflowing with hope and ideals who is Raiden's equal in almost every measure. Both bleeding and tearing into each other hoping to create a brighter future for the one's they protect and trying to get humanity to evolve beyond its current ways. Their legendary fight though extremely close, with both giving it their everything, ends with Raiden metaphorically and literally shattering Armstrong's dream by ripping out his heart and crushing it. Showing that despite everything, despite Armstrong's ideals and words, his heart is too soft to really change anything and that he doesn't possess the true will and desire to do what must be done.
yes
Fuck Blade Wolf I guess.
@@pantyosashu8137 lol, I was wondering where bladewolf was too
Bladewolf does not die, technically by the song. He becomes his own master!!!@@pantyosashu8137
@@pantyosashu8137 I think he's similar to Khamsin
The Hot Wind Blowing - Khamsin's theme , also from Metal Gear Rising. please check it out, you won't regret it. 🎸🔥💯
UP🔥🔥
also make sure to listen to A Soul Can't Be Cut (both versions)
Since no one has said it and I understand your policy on not having time to play games just for the music, I’ll just explain here:
That big break in Rules of Nature is synced up to play right as you begin a quick time event where Raiden parries a sword the size of a city block, and continues over the playable cutscene so it ends right as the boss dies.
MGR’s ost has many cool cues that loop parts and sync during pivotal moments in the boss fights. Tbh though it could easily be understood from simply watching a playthrough of any one boss fight to get the idea, for anyone who does want to check it out.
To add onto this, the fights take place in multiple phases where the boss' moveset and the state of the arena changes, and the music is designed to follow the changes in each one. The boss fights start with the instrumental version of their respective track, and when the second phase of the fight kicks in, so do the lyrics of the song.

Yea, it's a shame he didn't play that one instead.
Gotta love games that has lyrics from the bosses perspective as you fight them.
It Has to Be This Way
A song about how Raiden and the final boss of the game have clashing philosophies pushing them. They acknowledge that each have good points but ultimately cannot come to any reconciliation and thus must fight knowing that neither of them have the best answer to fix the problems being experienced.
In the ends they used violence to decide who's right or wrong
@@austinaldy2150 "violence breed violence, but in the end it has to be this way" literally in the lyric.
My Favorites From The MGRR OST Have To Be "The Only Thing I Know For Real" "Collective Consciousness" And "It Has To Be This Way"
So the last three unique songs? I mean they are awesome but i love "i'm my own master now" (i think that's how it's called i don't fully remember)
I love The Hot Wind Blowing more than i admit.
Same but i like Red sun and stranger i remain too
am I one of the only people who likes "stains of time", "a stranger I remain", and "the hot wind blowing"?
@@mewhen3001 alot of people like stains of time, don't worry. The hot wind blowing is a bit slept on though.

For Collective Consciousness, the base drum continues to be played at a fixed tempo the entire time. Almost like a metronome. Hypnotic. It also works with your militaristic ideas as i can be interpreted as marching.
1:32:20 - That's right. Dark skies is one of the regular battle theme. You should listen rest of tham as Return to ashes and A soul can't be cut
And don't forget to listen missed boss theme - The hot wind blowing. It's one of the best soundtrack in game.
Boss of this theme was planned as boss in main storyline but it got cut and used as the only boss of one of two DLC
"It has to be this way"...still is my favorite cause when u play the game and get to that point u would understand it better( story wise) and its just feels awesome listening to it while kicking the last boss ass in the game
imagine a fan of soundtracks, games, visuals, action, when playing and all of this being injected at once... It's a lot of adrenaline with a lot of appreciation for every second 😅
I love that you dont just give it a one-time listen, but instead rewind and reanalyze the entire track! As a long time Metal Gear Solid fan I really appreciate your analysis of one of my favorite video game soundtracks! 🙇
Only if I find more interesting stuff after the first listen. Otherwise I move on to the next song.
I hope you're going to react to "The War Still Rages Withing" too!
It perfectly sums up the theme of the game.
I can also recommend Geoffrey Day's cover of "The Only Thing I know For Real".
He helped on the original soundtrack and even brings back a lot of other musicians who worked of the original song to create this heavier cover.
Yeah, "the war still rages within" is one I expected to be in this video :D
@@StepOne1 what do you expect when mgr fans think only the boss themes exist
I definetly recommend the credits song "The War Still Rages Within", the melangcholic theme is the perfect completion of the long journey the game offers you.
In the game these boss themes are usually only instrumental until the vocals come in at a specific part of the fight (or sometimes other way around), which I think is really cool

I'm so glad you loved Collective Consciousness! It's my favorite song on the soundtrack! It's so good.
Great songs, great reactions and analyses
As great as every single track is, Collective Consciousness might also be my favorite lol. I love the demo version too which sounds very different but also awesome, much lighter on the wubstep with different lyrics and more abrasive vocals. Stains of Time might be tied with it for me.
"let me start again to see if I missed something" bro just wants to listen to the song again and again😂
I’m surprised you didn’t react to it before. But yeah, it’s great, one of the greatest game OSTs. And the idea of having boss’ story/beliefs in their OST is still great.
Perhaps one of the best video game OSTs, all the boss fights were incredible to go along with their songs.
It`s kind funny knowing that vocalist from The Only Thing I Know For Real liked the parody of said song so much that he sang it himself and dropped in on YT xD
MY LEGS ARE BROKEN, THE KNEECAPS ARE STOLEN! I'M FOREVER BOUND TO A CHAIIIIR!
I had A Stranger I Remain on loop for days when I played this game for the first time. Great freaking song.
second youtuber who has recently and unexpectedly reacted to mgrr, this is amazing
Are you talking about definitely not definitive? If so yeah both unexpected lol
@@eligozdiff5038 yup
Summary: The vocals start at impactful times in the boss fight improving there impact.
The important part of these songs Is the vocals only start at specific points in the boss fight. that makes them feel much more impactful like the most played part of Rules of Nature Is always played at a specific point during a QTE event end to give a feeling of impact to the player and the other tracs all are unique In when they start or when a specific part plays as I believe In the Sam fight He only uses some attacks at a specific part in the track ( I can be incorrect )
- Damn, i was to late to suggest hot wind blowing.
YO YOU FINALLY DID IT
I love watchng musicions react to music cause I could not tell if he still liked Collective Consciousness during the song just by looking at his face lmao. Ive almost began to learn by watching various other musicion reactors
Love the master sword and hylian shield on the wall
I love the social critic in this game, these lyrics, all are awesome soundtracks
The Strains of Time is incredibly relatable
Now this is music worth listening to! Love the Metal Gear Rising soundtrack!
If you ever give this a revisit, please listen to "The Hot Wind Blowing" as well as, if not more importantly, "The War Still Rages Within"
Fun fact: Revengeance is not some hip new mashup of two words - revenge and vengeance -, it's actually a very old one, it's a word that went out of fashion some hundred years ago and it means "revenge with great violence".
The main reason why it has this name is because the game had troubled development. It was initially developed in-house at Konami and it was entrusted to some young but eager developers who tried to make their own game. Alas they only had experience making Metal Gear Solid which is a slow paced sneaking game with some shooter elements. This experience did not translate well into making a fast paced melee action game. The development ran into a dead end where they just couldn't make the game fun.
So they instead hired an entirely another company Platinum Games to finish it. Platinum Games is a well known developer who are specialized in high paced action games. Thus it was subtitled "Revengeance" by the original Konami developers because it had troubled them for so long but change of hands was meant to truly turn it around into greatness. And that they did, Platinum Games managed to turn the project around in just 18 months and dropped this masterpiece.
During the process, they changed the game's engine, remade the gameplay from scratch and wrote a whole new story to better match the action that Platinum wanted to create and in those 18 months the game's soundtrack was also created. It's not to say that the original development was made in vain. Great many assets carried over into the new versions along with the system that allows players to cut anything from any angle. One of the earliest gameplay videos of the Konami version of the game had the player neatly slice some watermelons. And you can still do that in the final version of the game. Neat.
I like how through all this the chat is just quoting maxor
Thank you❤️
LETS GOOOOOOOO

22:47 - By the way there's words on french that translates like that: "I'm getting a fever. The creaking of the boat won't let me sleep"
Everyone are praising "It Has to Be This Way" and "The Only Thing I Know For Real," and understandably so...
But my absolute favorites have got to be "I'm My Own Master Now" and "War Still Rages Within." There's just something in them that speaks to my very soul, especially the latter song...
The War Still Rages Within is just the perfect song to vibe to. Shit touches your soul lol
That DragonForce song you referred to is called Through the Fire and the Flames.
Chat already answered it in real time
This soundtrack is baller but everyone misses the one key thing...
The vocals only ever come in when you're getting the kill.
That's not exactly true. If that was true, you'd have barely any time to enjoy the lyrics. It's sometimes true, but often it's at a critical juncture of the fight.
The vocals for the very last one come in when you have the sword in hand tbh
This is only true for Ray and khamsin.
Can you do Viego champion theme, and pyke champion theme?
Nooooo Flippin way. My favorite song has to be A Stranger I Remain i remember listening to a 30 minute extended version for like 5 hours straight and thats what really got me into the game, also I love women 😊
Yeah women are cool but mistral looks kinda ugly ngl
Next reaction should be to Toon Town OST
There're a few reasons why the soundtrack of this game is so good (besides the dude making them being f*cking goated)
But the main reason IMO is how they made it so the beat drops right as you do certain stuff; that moment when you cut Ray in half for example.
It's one of those games you should play at least twice, it never gets old anyway.
The only song I know for real
Honestly if I had something that Id love for you to take a look at is MGS3 - Main theme Snake eater.

This soundtrack was designed to be good both in song and instrumental form, and IMO listening to just the song is far from the optimal form to listen to them. The game mixes of the songs feel SO much better, IMO.

P.s.
Same... I feel like I would be lost with metal gear, and picking up rising feels like taking a piss next to a monolith. Still the music pays great honor to the whole series.
Also taking a piss isn't a crime, and when you have taken down the monolith yourself, then you can take even a dump, I say.
"why is this part the most watched?" Well that's probably because at that point the protagonist is in the process of suplexing a metal gear ray and cutting it into salami
