- If anyone knows anything that would help fix this issue without having to buy a used or new transmission that would be great. But if it comes down to it ill just buy a used one. Anyone local let me know if you got one for sale
Chevy Gmc notorious for trans sticking check your accelerator pedal position sensor
Unfortunately with transmission it can be a multitude of things. Best bet is to do a thorough diagnostic on it and go from there. Most would recommend the fuse because it's cheapest route, and solenoids fairly cheap as well. Save the headache and completely diagnose it.
Had the same problem was about to pull the transmission then saw a video telling that the TPS (throttle position sensor) might be bad. $15 part and it shifts!
did your truck not want to go over 40 mph??
@@twistedtuned4273I just got my new motor 5.3 in with 82k miles and a rebuilt transmission 4L60E also got new Acdelco 02 sensors and new catalytic converter’s and new fuel pump the whole engine has everything new except pistons upgraded all new parts and all new sensors and yet when I drove my truck it’s a 2006 Silverado 2wd it still didn’t want to go past 35 up no codes or nothing
@@anthonymorales3120something was obvious done wrong. Start completely over
Did you get any check engine codes before changing the TPS sensor? I have no codes but got this same symptoms
When I buy replacement fuses I always choose the ones with an led wired across in parallel with the fuse, that way when ones blows it lights up so you can locate it easily
Mine acted the exact same way. It was the throttle positioning sensor (TPS). I bet it idles high after driving a bit and you put it in park. I was even throwing an evap code. 50 dollar part and two screws
Dam I keep getting the evap code even after I deleted the code it would come back like a week later. Thanks for the help man! I’ll make a video and see if this works
@@tylermischief22 yeah mine felt like I wasnt shifting into 3rd. I had to really stomp on it to get it to move around 40 mph and it would rev real hard. I had a transmission guy check codes with a more advanced code reader and he zeroed in on the TPS. i its confused about the throttle position it wont want to upshift. t's a bit tricky to get to but I think A1 Auto has a video on how to replace it easy.
@@tylermischief22 u have a evap canister behind ur gas tank it has plastic tubing that goes to the charcoal canister. Get some 3/4 heater hose and hose clamps replace it . Had same issues with my 06 Silverado . Also another thing I replaced was the sensor on top of the motor that ur fuel line goes into. It was a $25 part . After replacing it my evap codes have not been back on.
Check your throttle position sensor. Not just the gas pedal but the one on the throttle body. The plug on the throttle body is bad for going bad. The yellow and brown wires break easy get replace ment pig tail from o'reilly's it's there 8 wire plug.
Try changing the b solenoid in the transmission, they cost about $20-26 a piece. I always change the a and b shift solenoids shake your old ones make sure the rattle. Take a small pick and a zip tie and work the shift valves out one at a time spray cleaner or gas in a squirt bottle and clean the ports and valves off good blow air to finish cleaning them. Dip valves in clean trans fluid and reinstall oil solenoid seal before installing, test drive if that doesn't fix it remove the heatsheild from the passenger side of trans
Look for the 1-4 shift servo above the pan and between the electrical plug and arch of bell housing about 3" around. Clean and brush around the inner cap. Push in on the center with a pry bar and insert a screwdriver onto slots and pry out retaining ring clean area and blow clean inner surface where ring was, let off pressure with prybar
Use channel lock pliers twist and pull servo cap out watch for inner piston to fall out remove the rest of servo spring and ban apply pin. Notice how sloppy the pistons all move around each other replace with new not remanufactured, oil new one with trans fluid and maybe a little vaseline around the cap seal and trans case reinstall drive it. Make sure your computer isnt the one that loses computer shift ground if so install jumper wire then test drive. Check and clear codes if it has code p0758 p0601-p0605 replace the computer
I have the code for lost speed sensor ground. Where do you jump the ground?
Damn Tim I wish you was still here
This is what has happened to my just installed remanufactured Trans. First the check engine for no reason and the the trans was only pulling in second.
Purchase a good scanner so you can see the solenoid active positions and trouble shoot it right. Get diagrams and check powers and Grounds. Don't guess, test!
Going from park to drive is your first shift. As you accelerate and it shifts again for the first time while moving forward, you're actually entering second gear. gotta count your first rolling shift and second gear.
Agree.
You're a smart man. I think that's what drew me to your channel a couple of years ago. That, and your sparkling personality! (Oh, and buckle your seatbelt, 😆).
Wow, thank you!
i think this is an LGBT moment. i'll leave you two alone.....
The transmission is in limp mode check for power at the plug should be a light pink wire if you have power at the plug than its going to be in the transmission pan ethier bad harness or 1-2 shift solenoids
L18blindboy1997 Thanks for the info but I’m not sure if that’s it either. I’m going to make an update video this weekend to let you guys know what’s going on with the truck. She mostly only shifts bad when and after pulling a trailer with a lawnmower.
I wish I had you to help
It happened to me the same way with the shifts i have a 2004 silverado all i did to it was change 1 and 2 solenoids and also clean the transmission pan and gasket my truck runs good and shifts really good now
@@SACRAMENTO_916 Well you got lucky. Mine is doing same changed A & B solenoids, filter, gasket, fluid and still hving same issue with shifting
limp mode doesnt rev that high
Replace your solenoid in the transmission. Easy fix.
Drop guh our pan, pull your filter. You should have 2 solenoids side by side. May as well change them both while your in there. Online they cost about $13 advance had them in stock for $23. Change your filter while you got it off.
Good luck!
Thanks man I'll check into this, but yeah I do have an update video of it still doing the same thing coming out soon
@@tylermischief22 did you ever figure it out? Mines doing this right now. I’ll start my truck and all will be fine. I’ll turn it off and try again, then it won’t shift. It’s like every other time I start the truck it’s sticking in another gear

I have first. And second ok second to third slips and third slips and drive slips
What happened to the transmission
@@vincentmangiarotti3400 sounds like 3/4 clutch pack is done or 3/4 piston is culprit. Having same problem with my 01 tahoe 4l60e starts off fine shifts ok goes to make 3rd gear shift and seems like it's in neutral even if I manually shift into 3rd nothing. Can limp around town in 2nd gear but who wants to do that. Hope that helps
💯🙌🤣🤣
Takes off fine in first, shifts to second perfect but won’t shift to third unless you get the rpm’s up nd let off gas nd put back on, won’t shift into overdrive
I'm having this problem
Me to did y’all ever fix it ?
@@OskerisHollowyall fix that ?
@@paymedonthatemeever fix it?
The ball in the valve body closest to the bell housing will get stuck and cause this problem. Separator plate replacement and or neoprene ball replaced in that area of the plate, first flatten out the edges of the hole with a light hammer.
would this still be the cause if you can get it to shift by applying more or less throttle? also i assume you mean to flatten the old plate where it mushroomed the hole, not modification to the new plate, correct?
@@omgimagod6318 l
My 2003 Silverado 1500HD is doing similar. It is intermittent. Sometimes my check engine light is on and then it will go out. I have had to pull over on the freeway and remove the negative battery cable for a minute to get the issue to clear and it will start to shift normal. But then it sometimes stops shifting into 3rd. I was thinking because I notice a rodent had gotten into my engine bay. I am going to try cleaning the throttle body to see if that has anything to do with it.
.. and I got the washer fluid message.
It always starts in 1st gear and it shifts into 2nd and so on. Try changing the fluid and filter if that doesn't fix it then change the shift solenoids
You should have to tear down your transmission, change the 3/4 clutch pack with the pistons, have to pressure test the passage with air for the input drum for air leakage between the drum and shaft
man...
What about to change the whole transmission, Jamel,>?
This is the very problem my husbands truck has .. he has a rebuilt transmission an when it shifts to second it won’t shift to 3rd or 4th just reves up
Did you ever find a fix for this? Or figure out what the problem was?
Maybe ignition switch
Was there a fix for this. Same issue here
Did you fix the problem? I’m in the same situation with my truck
Same for me 2000 Chevy tahoe.
I'm having the same problem but if I put it in tow haul it seems to shift fine
Did you find out what was wrong? I have a 2004 doing that exact same thing, it shifts through all the gears perfectly in tow haul but won’t go passed 2nd when tow haul is turned off
Any fix?? Having the same issue :(((
My 02 (4l80 swapped) truck is doing this randomly
Trans was fully rebuilt and working swapped the motor out an now I have no 3rd/4th
Plugged in HP tuners
An it says I’m going through all gears
But it doesn’t physically shift
I tried to “command” shift through HP tuners still no response
Did a ohms test at the plug I have 12v(e) 20.1ohms on (a) an 418 ohms on (b)
Guessing there’s a short in the internal harness??
No codes tho
Replaced tps an speed sensor
Checked every fuse on the truck (none blown)
So frustrating
I have 01, took mine to a shop and they said my transmission cooler lines were leaking and that I didn't have a bad transmission. It was a expensive fix, considering, I could've done it myself for way less, if I would've known. But still having transmission issues. Trouble in shifting from second to third. Like wtf.
Did you ever figured out your problem? Im having the exact same problem.
Short answer no after my comment here it got rebuilt again an 3rd/4th feel like neutral but from what I found out is something in the valve body is damaged and/or forward drum
I actually just ordered a stage 3 jakes performance trans done playing with it
Tcm maybe

I bought a Remain transmission For 7 year warranty . I had 257000 miles before I replaced mines I'm still having this problem that you experience and that in mind is the 5.3 I took it the one transmission shop they couldn't figure it out they said it's not my transmission what's up top mission which I told him and I knew it wasn't because It was brand new. And my truck is throwing all types of transmission codes. So hopefully you find A good shop
i have same or similar issue with shifting in 4l60e. I can get it to shift by applying more or less throttle to about 3300 rpm which i believe is what happened when yours suddenly worked.. no downshifts though i have to manually downshift back to 1st and adjust throttle at each shift to get it to grab. no overdrive. could VVT solenoid cause this?
Try disconnecting and connecting your idle sensor on the throttle body and erase the code that I’ll pop up and you’re idle should be hire just turn off and on your motor until idle drops back to normal and drive it to see if that fixed it because my dads truck had some what similar problem downshifting tho and that fixed it
I’m having the same issue. I was able to do that a couple times. Haven’t been able to for. Couple months now.
Your truck intermediate shaft ion your steering column is worn and replacing. that’s what you hear that clunking in the your steering. Common on those years
thanks for the info man!
Did you ever figure this out? I have an issue similar to this, Mines on a 11 Yukon Denali, just got a jasper reman transmission put in bc the old one went out and we have about 600 miles on it and it hard downshifted into first or second and revved out, then when we got on the gas it would just rev out and not shift up past 2nd, later trying to limp it to a shop I figured out of I let it coast about the time it was supposed to shift to 3rd it would go in and drive and shift great until I came to a stop again, fluid looks good and was still full and there was no “burnt” smell, we have a 3yr/ 100k warranty but the installer basically is trying to pass the hat, said it’s not the transmission bc it’s a jasper, so we are waiting to see what this other trans shop says, just trying to do some research of my own to see if I can figure out the cause
That is exactly my same problem. I didnt know how to explain it. Did you ever find the problem?
Try to change shift solenoids.
Mine does the very same thing! When it's cold, I don't have a problem, until it warms up good. (COIL?)
Do you mean ignition coils?
This is a fluid viscosity problem. Your fluid is probably very old and when it thins-out at higher temps, it slips past worn seals/parts so that hydraulic pressure is lost, and therefore gears do not shift normally, or it gets stuck in between gears (neutral). Try Lucas Transmission Fix & Stop Leak.
Not exactly the same but on my truck, 2000 Chevy 2500, 6.0, the PRND display was all messed up and the trans was wonky. I replaced the PRND switch and all was well again. Also you are getting an evap code check the fuel tank vent valve, they are notorious for going bad. Now your air bag light...sorry, no idea, but would be curious what the problem is if you fix it.
What's prn

I have a reman transmission in now. And still having the same shift problems. I replaced speed, troque, and shift solenoids. Not to mention the Tccm. Transfercase control module. Still hasn't fixed the problem. Im at a loss now too.
Does a shift to first and second find but when it hits third or fourth it feels like it goes into neutral on the RPMs go up high if you replace everything else and you still having shifting issues it is more likely your 3-4 clutch pack that would need to be replaced inside the transmission
If you put a rebuilt tyranny in doesn't that replace the existing 3-4 clutch pack?
Mine is doing the same thinngggg 🙄 gm needs to do better I did everything on my damn truck and nothinnnnn😤 hopefully I can figure it out!!!
mine shifts into 2nd i think then after 60 it forces itself to go went to a mechanic said he need a new transmission 😕 someone help not tryna drop a bag
Try a new tps sensor
Doubt it's the trans. Did you fix it?
Having the same problem now. I just installed a new air intake system and 3 days later I can’t shift into 3rd and revs up in 2nd until it’s able to shift back down to 1st.
I have a feeling it has something to do with either the Accelerator pedal position sensor or the throttle body position sensor. I used to always get a high rev on start up, so that kinda tells me something. The new intake system seemed to make it finally give up.
Did you find the issue?
@@qadirnoori872 Turns out it was my Trans that went bad, i think my new air intake system helped push it over the edge. Clutches got burnt out, i could tell when i pulled the pan by the smell and darker color. Got it rebuilt.
@@Aaron86v how much was it i have a truck gmc sierra 04 that feels it won't shift into 3rd but it starts slowing down at 40mph. But idk if its the transmission. When I was driving the other day. I was pressing the gas pedal but neither the odometer or RPM was going up. Felt like it was just about to die or losing power...but the car didn't die....any info would help
@@Severah115 It was about $1500 but I can tell you that it probably wasn’t done 100% the best. So if you want the job done perfectly, you need to find your best shop in town and just pay for the quality, especially if you plan on keeping the truck.
As far as your issues go, it really is hard to say, it could be a lot of things. First thing you’d want to do is check your engine codes and make sure everything’s good there. Check your transmission oil, if it’s basically black that’s not a good sign but doesn’t always mean your trans is out. You could try throwing cheap parts at it like the speed sensor on the trans case. Check for any air leaks/loud hissing sounds/old hoses, that can affect your power.
If you want to check if you have 3rd shift, just place it into the manual 3rd. This is how I knew for sure that I didn’t have 3rd because it would just rev high in 2nd and stay like that.
If all else fails, just take it to a shop to inspect it. You can always fix it yourself if it’s something small. PS: Just don’t tell them you think it’s the trans, just say you’re losing power or something and let them figure it out .
I got an 2011 1500 Silverado with the same problem what would the cause of it be?
Shift solenoid 1-2 & 2-3 or module replacement or both should fix. Remember to reset module if replaced..should do it.
Having the same problem just changed trans and still doing the same..have any ideas yet?
Fuse
Try a new tps sensor , because when tps is not working properly, Transmision only works by oil pressure and it does not know how much you are pushing your throttle pedal
