Best reaction video, this album messes with us, impresses us and addicts us. seeing you listening and enjoying it instantly was exactly what I felt the first time I heard and I continue to feel until today
"Is this the last album they're gonna make ?" just proves that ode to the mets is the perfect strokes song, It literally feels like a mixture of all their albums together in one track
This album is almost 20 years into their careers and Julian puts down some of the best vocal performances he ever has on recording. It's really amazing
I still recommend Room on Fire and First Impressions of Earth, but just keep in mind that you’re gonna have to get used to some distortion on Julian’s voice if you go back to those😂
It was nice to hear your thoughts on at the door. I feel like its very underrated in the album. This entire album is so special to me cause it has that "it speaks to me" kinda feeling
It took me forever to actually listen to At the Door. The intro instrumentals would always put me off a bit so I would skip it. However, I gave it a chance one day and was blown away by the lyrics and the chorus. Chorus was just otherworldly. Like being lifted to another plane of existence
@@jjoey1800 exactly the into always reminded me of chrome music lab if you get it. But I originally listened to half the album than more recently I listened to the others and it’s so much better
I love how Julian breaks the fourth wall and gets meta with the songs sometimes. "Can we switch into the chorus right now?" and the chorus starts. "Struck me like a chord" and then the guitar cord is struck. "Drums please, Fab" and he starts playing the drums. He even had did it way back on their third album First Impressions of Earth. "We could drag it out, but that's for other bands to do"
What i understand from the song "why are Sunday's so depressing" is that the message is not on the lyrics but on the music itself, it feels messy yet melancholic and bittersweet, it has a deeper undertone, but the happy melodies and sounds are the meaning of finding joy and happiness on a depressing sunday before starting another week again from work or school, im glad you enjoyed the album!
Oooo now that’s art right there! I appreciate your insight fam, yes I definitely enjoyed the album & I gotta relisten to this song to really let it seep in more !
I'm glad you decided to go back to The Strokes so soon. You've listened to the first, and the last album. There is a lot of progression and experimentation in between, but they never lost their signature sound. Obviously, Julian has experimented a lot with his singing style. Julian started his own band called "The Voidz", and Albert did some solo stuff. You can hear how they came back together and mixed the two different sounds they that they had been cultivating. I've had the pleasure of seeing them live twice, but both shows were on the "Is This It" tour. I haven't seen them since they debuted. I'd love to see them again, and see how they have progressed. I believe they had to credit Billy Idol because the riff is so similar, but it's supposed to be similar. There is a lot of 80's influence on this album.
That means a lot ! I appreciate you fr you’re always adding insight & gems 🔥😨🙏🏾 and yes I’m def going to listen to the voidz very soon! & room on fire ! 🔥
Not the same anymore is so heartbreaking and full of regret but the band and solo are so warm and uplifting almost as to say everything is going to be ok Julian and I felt the same way about why are sundays soo depressing but it'll grow on you, eternal summer bad decisions and Brooklyn are lowest for me still but do get better with time. Good reaction homie
Had the absolutely same reactions as you with The Adults are Talking as a perfect starting track and Ode to the Mets as the perfect ending track as well. Thank you for such a great review ❤
also I’ve been a huge huge Strokes fan since I was 10 (so like 2011) and watching a video of them live debuting the adults are talking a year before the album release was such a damn tease I spent a year yearning for the studio version
The strokes are simply amazing! They always do a beautiful melodie that makes you faint.. This album definitely has the best melodies in music history!! Another thing is the lyrics they do, it can mean many things at the same time, it’s curious and unique
I knew you’d appreciate this one more! I love this album so much. Probably my favorite Strokes record which was so unexpected considering I wasn’t as big of a fan of the two projects they released before this. It’s just so good though. Still feels like a Strokes album, but the different creative choices make it so much better.
@@JaKarTV if you have Apple Music and choose the Spatial Audio option it actually separates the vocals and instruments pretty well so you can hear what he’s singing more clearly for their first two albums. Obvs that’s only with the AirPods. But you can give that a try later on to see if you like that.
You should listen to Human Sadness by The Voidz, the singer for them is also Julian Casablancas. Tbh when I first listened to the song I didn’t like it, but it’s grown on me so much and now it’s been my favorite song of all time for years
Been waiting for this one, Ode to the mets is a masterpiece...also, Consider checking out the album absolution by Muse, i think you are gonna like it a lot
Room on fire definitely the next strokes album to check out. It was their follow up to is this it and has the same kinda vibe but I find the songs to be a lot more mature and grounded and emotional compared to is this it. (Not saying that is this it is bad or anything it's actually one of my favourite albums of all time lol)
The Strokes has been my favorite band for the last 5 years, but I recognize that some of their songs have to grow in you in order for you to get in love with them. Once it hits, it hits hard tho. However, I feel that The New Abnormal breaks that pattern. Great album. Loved the reaction, just subscribed.
I'm pretty sure Bad Decisions wasn't written with Billy Idol involved but they realized it sounded too much like Dancing With Myself by him so he got a credit.
Bro watch the video for At the Door and Ode to the Mets. Their videos have always been another window into the meanings, and these two (among the others) in particular are very multidimensional in meaning. Give them some time, and just enjoy this album for at least a few months. You have a long, awesome road of discovery ahead of you.
Okay now please do Julian Casablancas's solo album "Phrazes for the Young" then his side band The Voidz "Tyranny" album and then The Voidz "Virtue" album!
First off, really enjoyed this and your Is This It video. Live they are either great or Julian is having an off day and forgets half the lyrics. The band are generally always on though, they're some really talented guys. When it came out Room on Fire, the second album was criticized for being too similar to the first album, but now 20 years later it really does feel different, definitely leans less on the vocal effects. Still some distortion in there but Julian sounds clearer in my opinion. Same producer as the debut, keeps the garage rock, low-fi sound generally. But there are also some fun surprises in there. First Impressions of Earth is my favourite album, but it has like 3 songs I would cut out of it. For me some of their best songs, and Fab Moretti, the drummer, really goes out of his way to beat the drum machine allegations that I feel they got in the first two albums. All the instruments go hard on this one, some people think Julian's voice sounds off putting due to the new producer they were working with, but I think he sounds a-ok. The guitars play off each other and interweave with each other really well. Some of my absolute favourite songs. Phrazes for the Young, Julian's solo record. I really like this album, it is where Julian really starts messing with synths and electronic sounds. Wish he had done more of this instead of The Voidz. Angles is one I don't revisit as much, but it has some really good tracks. This one was recorded when the band was maybe not in the best place, Julian recorded vocals away from the band, and the rest of the guys also had more input with the songs. Comedown Machine is my least favourite, but there are a LOT of people that swear by it, maybe I need to give it more plays. The lead single was One Way Trigger and it was a big surprise for a lot of people who hadn't really heard Julian doing a falsetto, also more keyboards.
Best reaction video, this album messes with us, impresses us and addicts us. seeing you listening and enjoying it instantly was exactly what I felt the first time I heard and I continue to feel until today

Ode to the Mets was the song i heard that utterly blew me away and made me a Stroke fan for life
I can really see that now! Amazingggg outro
17:50 When he said "drums please, fab" he was talking to the drummer Fabrizio Moretti
Yupp I had a feeling !
the fact that they dropped this bomb after 22 years of career is madness
