I went to Lollapalooza un Argentina to sée The strokes. This song play on live was a kiss to the soul. Thanks for tuve to us a technical explanation to that feeling. Please continue with Julián!
Julian's vocal is not the best and perfect in any way, but its ability to envoke nostalgia and emotions is undeniable, especially combined with his songwriting skill.
The "roar" part just gets me everytime. It's so freakin beautiful. Great analysis. Always love Julian Cascablancas's videos on your channel man. Keep them coming! You gotta delve into "the voidz" stuff now for sure.
"One Way Trigger" is easily Julian's most insane vocal work imo. The entire album, "Comedown Machine", which is the painfully underrated predecessor to "The New Abnormal", is chock-full of Julian's falsetto. Would love to see it on this channel someday.
Julian takes a lot of inspiration from 20s-60s crooners and mixes it with a more modern pop rock type of style. Even 80s new wave bands used baritones that reminded you of golden age crooners. But a lot more edgy
Dude, it makes me happy beyond words that you've discovered Julian. Have you dug into his solo work? I feel that's where this great transformation occured... Check out four chords of the apocalypse🖤
Oh man I KNEW there was a reason I fell in love with Julian's vocal performance, and a huge thank you Chris for so comprehensively covering all the nuances he displays. The New Abnormal is like an antithesis to over-produced albums; it's as you said - feels sparse yet so full in its sound (no doubt thanks to the great mixing) and Julian's vocals are just so damn interesting and captivating. Julian's vocals and your videos have given me a greater appreciation of talented vocalists and just how much detail there is in a good vocalist's performance.
I would love to see your analysis of The Strokes' "At The Door" from the same album. It's probably one of Julian Casablancas' rawest & most impressive vocal performances. Great work btw, I'm addicted to your videos, such knowledge & passion.
A good friend of mine showed me this song last week & I have to say is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, the song is a masterpiece from start to finish but the emotion Julian evokes with tone changes throughout his vocals is outstanding. My fav parts are “and I got it all, I got it all, I will not show my teeth too quick , I needed you there/ but I didn’t know x2” And the build up of the last verse to end with that momentum gets me everytime . AMAZING.
I've never been that eager for someone to press the [Spacebar]. For a amateur singer like me, Chris's comments are gold. Julian is one of my fav singers, if not the one. Thanks Chris (y)
Would be great to see now something in between Reptilia and the New Abnormal. I'd suggest Chances. Really beautiful song where he goes more subtle. Great series.
I literally have no knowledge on music or vocal or any of that stuff. It's actually nice to learn something new and not just listen to songs. Brilliant video.
I think it’s lovely that a vocal coach is taking a deep drive into Julian’s voice. Too quickly people dismiss his voice as a one trick pony with the mic doing his work. I think he has the most distinctive voice of the last 2 decades, the strokes, solo and collaborating with the biggest to provide vocals. His presence brings a grandeur and now timeless quality. Like Scott Walker or Jaques Burel his growth as a vocalist continues beyond the first impressions .
This is one of my all-time favorite songs from them. I'm glad you did this breakdown. Been learning quite a lot from your channel and I'm very grateful. Thanks a million
One of my favourite vocal transformations is Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys :) not sure how famous they are in the US but have been huge here in the UK since the mid 2000s. The difference between their last 2 albums, 'AM' and 'Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino' and their earlier work is incredible. It's particularly interesting for me, being nerdy about this stuff and now living in their hometown of Sheffield. Alex used to sing in a really distinctive Sheffield (Yorkshire) accent, and it's only detectable on certain vowels now, but somehow his voice is still so distinctly *him*. I can definitely hear the influence of Julian Casablancas on AT's voice. It's sssssssso interesting to watch singers polish up their technique! I worry sometimes as I'm only just taking my singing development "seriously" at 29, but some of these guys are singing better than ever in their 30s and 40s.
Good morning from New England ..I've honestly only heard 3-4 Strokes songs but I liked what I heard so this will be interesting....Im a drummer but as a muscian I enjoy learning about other aspects of the craft..Thx Chris..Peace from the Northeast..
Such a great analysis really reminds me why he's my favorite vocalist! While I would love more of The Strokes I'm definitely interested to hear your thoughts on The Voidz!
The song itself os a masterpiece and worthy of a Grammy. We hear so many songs about growing up poor with nothing but still having the love of your father. Julian's song is about growing up with everything and wanting the love of your rich father and all he does is throw money at you. Now hes gone and you have no good memories of him, just him equating money with affection but you have hope for your future generations that you wont do the same to them.
Thank you Chris for going through and examining every tid bit of the vocals here. I've never thought of myself as capable to advance in singing, I always thought it was a born-talent. But you showed me, as well as other things, that it's just not true. Watching these videos that you put out inspires me to learn more about singing even if I am better at drums now. Once again Chris, thank you and keep up the quality content
Thank you for doing more Strokes videos, Chris! Love them to death. I am once again asking for Frank Ocean’s Ivy. I think you’d have a field day with his voice!
Also check out Julian Casablancas’ other band The Voidz! His vocal work with them is way more experimental than with the Strokes :) Thanks again for your videos!
Man, is amazing you haved dedicated a few videos to Jules, I'll love to keep watching more of you explaining vocal performance and technique through julian. I recommend you, One way trigger, Ize of the world, 50/50 and also Julian solo work was pretty solid, my personal favs are 11th dimension and out of the blue, Thanks for this videos 👋🏻
Awesome video and demonstration as always Chris! I've been really enjoying these analysis of The Strokes~ Really useful information and tips from you, keep up the good work! :)
I love so much that you continue to do these. I love hearing your professional reviews and the level of depth that you put into it. I suppose it's only right to do something from his solo work or the voidz. Julian is one of my favorite vocalists so this is beautiful to watch. I support you even when you take a break from Julian Analysis videos. I know the fandom appreciates you. Rock on brother.
I know these comments already have a lot of suggestions, but 30 Minute Boyfriend from Casablnaca`s solo album deserves a look, and has (to my knowledge) his highest note ever
You sir are an amazing teacher ! I'm using your videos as I work on my own songs to find tune the characters and it's helps a ton. Way more efficient than wondering if it is the right key !
the level you show in every video is very astonishing, excellent content, you rock! I just request one thing: At the door, Julian's masterpiece so far...please make it possible
I’m always impressed by your music selections. I wonder if you’ve seen “Summer of Soul” a documentary by Questlove about the Afro centric music during 1969: Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone, Nina Simone and so many other artists featured on that stage. I would love to see your take on their vocal performances and how that style of effortless, deep, soulfulness could be accomplished physically
Thanks for doing this, I love this album from THE STROKES... And Now I love your videos analysis. Greetings from Peru.!!! Please react and ANALYSE all the songs from this album.
Fantastic analysis on this one Chris! (as always) it's crazy you post a Strokes vid though, I've been binging their albums for the past couple weeks now lol.
Julian’s solo work or the voidz would be interesting like Eternal Tao ! or some deeper tracks in the strokes like threat of joy or call it fate call it karma would be a very interesting dissection !!
He put emotion and intimacy on this last "roar" like if his voice brakes in a silent crying ... like swallowing the last note into some little emotional brake down... that part make some fans brake to cry in the live shows when they play this song ... BTW Julian have the awful habit to forget and change the lyrics alive ... jajajaj you need this band playing alive
Great video, great song! Thank you for this incredible quality analysis, it seems to me that Julian is not just an amazing technique singer but also a great poet and dramaturgic-like artist. When i listen to their songs i feel like i'm on a theater, with dynamics at it's finest, and you, like always, captured that essence and brought us this excelent video. Thank you, Chris!
I love Julian's voice and the same goes to these videos. Thank you Chris, your work is amazing and really helpful. At least for me, that I'm exploring my own voice and trying some techniques (I sing horrible tho, but I hope that to change)
I love your analises Chris! I have so much fun and learning a lot too! Big hug from Brazil! PS: Please make a video analising of "Veronica" from new chili peppers album.
okay just finished watching! this is 100% my favorite song, due to how he sings and the lyrics. his emotions really shine through and it’s an ode, literally, and you can hear it so much. it makes me cry if i think of the ways that i relate to it, bc he uses his voice so effectively. thanks for showing us again the different things he’s doing with his voice to be so effective! would love your take now on at the door, bc he doesn’t so many interesting things with his voice there! this is definitely my second favorite from the album by a hair’s width!
I thought this would be another video where someone just bullshits their way through. But this was amazing!! The way you analysed & emulated is incredible & I got to learn a lot!
what a great job! I love see someone who is really great in somethind doing it. I can see passion in your eyes! Keep with Julian... Have you seen his job in the voidz?
It’d be class if you did one of these for Stephen Fitzpatrick, he was part of Her’s and unfortunately died in 2019, had a pretty cool unique voice especially when performing live (the paste studios What Once Was video is probably a good one for it)
Your videos have been super helpful to me as I have had no previous experience singing, thanks for your content! Could you do a video on how to sing like Lewis Capaldi sometime in the future?
Please do “Call It Fate, Call It Karma”, i really want to understand what is Julián doing in that song with his voice
Yes good idea
Echoing this a year later!!! One of my favorites
OMG YESSSSS
AH YESSSS!!! I've always found his voice most interesting in that song.
@@marie-ku1qmEspecially the 'watching you' part
Chris, I have to say: What you continually share and demonstrate so effortlessly on such a professional level is above and beyond in every way...
Thank you!
I went to Lollapalooza un Argentina to sée The strokes. This song play on live was a kiss to the soul. Thanks for tuve to us a technical explanation to that feeling.
Please continue with Julián!
Give to us *
Me pasó lo mismo, fue hermoso!
i love how fascinated he is with the "Drums please, Fab" AAAA love that part and i love how his reaction was to ittt
Julian's vocal is not the best and perfect in any way, but its ability to envoke nostalgia and emotions is undeniable, especially combined with his songwriting skill.
It almost makes me like it more. He’s not perfect and not trying too hard to sound like something he’s not
Su voz es de otro universo, es todoterreno.. no cualquier artista lo hace
Best song for his voice, true singer with unique style
The "roar" part just gets me everytime. It's so freakin beautiful.
Great analysis. Always love Julian Cascablancas's videos on your channel man. Keep them coming!
You gotta delve into "the voidz" stuff now for sure.
The outro of this song is beautifully construct. Really shows Julian's emotion.
"One Way Trigger" is easily Julian's most insane vocal work imo.
The entire album, "Comedown Machine", which is the painfully underrated predecessor to "The New Abnormal", is chock-full of Julian's falsetto.
Would love to see it on this channel someday.
Your wish has been granted :)
@@ge0fff Yeah and I totally missed it until randomly finding it a few weeks later lol.
Very satisfying though. Great video.
How did you get his vocals technique so accurate?! You're one of the most greatest vocal analysis! for god sake!
I'd love to interview Julian on he channel. I need to dig into his solo stuff more for sure!
Try Left and Right in the Dark. 2009 solo work. So filled with whimsey and feeling.
Oh man I KNEW there was a reason I fell in love with Julian's vocal performance, and a huge thank you Chris for so comprehensively covering all the nuances he displays. Good stuff as always. More Julian please!!!
ok :)
I would love to see your analysis of The Strokes' "At The Door" from the same album.
It's probably one of Julian Casablancas' rawest & most impressive vocal performances.
Great work btw, I'm addicted to your videos, such knowledge & passion.
I'd love to see you react to One Way Trigger. It's the best showcase of Julian's falsetto
YESYESYESYESYES
i'm begging for it

I stumbled upon this video while looking for lyrics break-down and holy flak. You are phenomenal man.
Here after hearing this song live on lollapallooza. I cant even describe the emotions i felt. Love this análisis!
I hit follow when you said singers don’t practice attitude enough… you get it. (I’m not a singer or musician).
yes yes yes. thank you and definitely you should more julian casablancas analysis.

Thank you so much for doing the strokes I've been struggling with his songs but I love them too much to give up.
YEAAAAAAH we need more julian casablancas
I think some of his singing in The Voidz and his solo album would be really cool too
Love this video. New strokes music is so good. Jules has really improved his singing too.

Chris thank you a lot for these the strokes video! Very interesting thing to watch! Maybe someday you’ll do At The Door by them?
Maybe so! Nice idea!
this song tears my guts out every single time. Pretty sure this song is about his painful relationship with his Dad
I think Will Smith listened to your advice about “voice escalation” at the oscars!
Also I gotta say! I love these videos! I learn so much!!
Спасибо, Крис! Это песня времен и народов, как у нас говорят! Она превосходна! Да и ты молодец!)
Would be amazing if you did The Modern Age in their first album. I think it's his most dynamic and most flexible vocals in their earlier albums.
Siempre tengo tiempo para un video sobre los trazos/strokes 👌✨
Thank you. It's always interesting to watch your videos with Julian, even though I'm far from being a musician and a vocalist
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you still find them interesting!

It would be great to see an analysis of Paul Banks' from interpol. His voice is kinda similiar to Ian Curtis but he is more intense.
Ohh ya! Great idea!
I second this. Paul Banks has also had a pretty interesting transformation throughout the years.
Awesome video and demonstration as always Chris! I've been really enjoying these analysis of The Strokes~ Really useful information and tips from you, keep up the good work! :)
I will! Thanks for watching and engaging!

Just won an Oscar for best documentary and it’s on Hulu

I really suggest looking into Will Toledo's vocals, he's got a very similar style but has his own really cool twist on it
Fantastic analysis on this one Chris! (as always) it's crazy you post a Strokes vid though, I've been binging their albums for the past couple weeks now lol.
Julian: "Drums please Fab"

Loviuuuu from Chile 🇨🇱
Please do "Oblivius". What Julian does in that song seems stunning for me.
Lets go! Been waiting for this video ever since I read the comment section from your analysis of TAAT haha
I’m learning so much from this this is awesome

Easily my fav song on that album
״Then I'll walk out, then I'll feel fine״ he is walking out with his voice at this part

I love this vocal
Glad I found this channel. I like how you explain it and and sing it back as well. Keep it up!
I love hearing your thoughts and explanations. It would be great if you did At the door by the strokes, chances by the strokes as well
Call it Fate, Call it Karma!!
I love your analises Chris! I have so much fun and learning a lot too! Big hug from Brazil!
PS: Please make a video analising of "Veronica" from new chili peppers album.
te amo pelado boton, entendiste todo, segui haciendo este tipo de reseñas, especialmente de bandas como estas, te mando un beso en la pelada jaja
Great vid! Would love to see At The Door off the same album!!
thats awesome chris, this style of teaching is great, hope to see more julian and alex turner too
so excited to watch 🤩

I'm doing a vocal performance of this song in front of my whole school, this video and your Discover your voice course has helped me practice a lot!
How did it go we must know
I feel like Under Cover of Darkness would be a great one to talk about
Thank you! This is a very good Video! Super cool!!! Most useful. 😁
I thought this would be another video where someone just bullshits their way through. But this was amazing!! The way you analysed & emulated is incredible & I got to learn a lot!
First off, how cool is it you can channel singers with such ease! Second, do you think Julian KNOWS just how good he is?
loved this
what a great job! I love see someone who is really great in somethind doing it. I can see passion in your eyes! Keep with Julian... Have you seen his job in the voidz?
Awesome great video great singing song so sound great audio. 👍
Thanks so much

TRY it with « why sundays are so depressin »
Good job as well
LOVE IT !
Analyze the Strokes' At The Door - I think this is one of Julian's best vocal performances
Your videos have been super helpful to me as I have had no previous experience singing, thanks for your content! Could you do a video on how to sing like Lewis Capaldi sometime in the future?
Great video man, you should totally react to At The Door from the same album
Selfless is a good one I think you should review :)
I have! See the links in the video description! :)
You gotta listen to human sadness if you havnt yet, and watch the official video for the full impact
’Drums please, Fab’
Please do At The Door next!!!
"It's like I'm by myself in my bedroom all alone. And I want to run out"
Is it only me who sings it always after the concert?
NO YOURE NOT.
