1 year ago today on New Years Eve 2020, 2 months later the end of touring due to the covid virus. Lets hope for a better 2021 with actual major tours and actual live shows.
I CANT BELIEVE i dknt have money to see them in Lolapalooza brazil with ashnikko and doja cat at the same day (they 3 are my most favorite singers/band)
So "Drums please, Fab" was intentional after all. Fab went out for some food when the band started recording the song, so when he came back, Julian gave him this cue, which made it to the final track. That's already iconic!
Just noticed that "drums please, fab" is totally intentional, you can see fab raise his sticks to prepare playing right before jules says it fucking really cool, what a great song
Sangth This is true. I remember nick saying during an interview (don’t know which one...sorry.) that if the band ever went back to that style of recording, he would never make a next album...it was that bad.
In Angles recording Sessions, the instruments were recorded individually, as well as Julian's voice, they were only assembled together in Studio afterwards. It marks the moment Julian isn't the sole composer, and artistic different views (as well as Julian's inability to share that spot and his will to keep pursuing a solo carrer with the Voidz - back then not called Voidz). So Julian's take on Angles seems to evoke the fracture period of their careers. But I wouldn't celebrate the new record announcement too soon, becausa Julian says these things and then nothing happens. I'll wait.
George Vasquez considering I was in elementary school, no. But I’ve been seeing him (strokes, solo, voidz,) at least once or twice a year since I was 13 and his voice sounded a lot more rough and strained during most of those performances. Plus I think I’ve seen every 2001 performance on RUclips and pretended I was there 😂
Caroline Shanahan I’m kinda late, but I agree. I’m only 25 so I wasn’t old enough during the supposed prime Strokes years, but I’ve been a fan since hearing Reptilia on Rock Band and I think Julian right now is the best he’s been vocally. His vocal work on The New Abnormal is his best imo.
@George Vasquez Was a teen then too and as nostalgic as I am for that music and those times, any sensible person would agree that Rock music's prime took place sometime in the 60's or 70's.

that "hey mr lightman" at 6:13 is a reference to Jim Morrison when The Doors performed The End at the Hollywood Bowl back in 1968. Jim wanted the lights turned down way low, so as a big Doors fan, hearing Julian say that made me grin from ear to ear like WHUUTT?!

Old friend, long forgotten
The old wave at the bottom of the ocean
It's not a bottom, it all falls on them
Yes, I see the right at the light home
By the sidewalk, mistaken
Nobody do it their older, older way
So glad I was able to see these guys live in 2003. It was an amazing experience.
its so beautiful i could cry i loves jules and his voice so much
6:25 is the “there we go” part of the song. Classic Stokes :)
You mean it’s good and then suddenly it’s the greatest thing you’ve ever heard? That Strokes thing?
what do you mean by it?
One serious heartbreak and a country away, and this reminds me of better days....oh how i miss them...
Ah the song from the Rick Rubin documentary. Always was curious to hear how this developed
Some of the strokes songs really do something to me. At The Door was one those songs and this song....when I watched music video of it last night ....almost made me cry. 😂
i genuinely dont know if i could live my life without this song but most specifically this live version
I love Albert’s energy so so so so much
God I get goosebumps soon as that melody hits...won't even specify what my body does when Julian starts singing...oh god..
my cat is sick of watching me crying to this for the 375687th time
I love how Julian says "2020 here we come" and now it makes no sense
julian’s musings are divine in this intro
My favorite parts of watching them live is always the mess ups/remixes Julian does 💘 Fan for 20 years and was finally going to see these guys live this year. My heart bleeds I didn't take the jump and go NYE 😥
3:07 fab so cute being hesitant on when to start 💗😆
Muito fofo 😍
These guys are so special for me, especially Fab is from Brazil.
Thanks for this video Jim Powers.
I love that he assures the crowd that he’s not shushing them- it’s in the song. So thoughtful and sweet that guy ❤

I hope "drums please, fab" is in the studio version! Great song!. “If you really love someone, you’ll be frozen with them.” -Julian Casablancas.
