I've only managed to ride on KTM's Komuter service from KL to Batu Caves a couple of years ago, on the CSR Zhuzhou Class 92 trains. A weird thing I noted is, that almost all of them had multiple shattered laminated windows per car, on both my trips to KL in '17 and `18.
If I remember correctly it was caused by vandals (mainly children who weren’t taught the better) along the route. Only the laminated outer glass was shattered and it caused no danger to the passengers on board. As it takes time to replace it and they didn’t want to take it out of service just for that they decided to only fix it during scheduled major maintenance.
I think ~140 kph is the perfect balance between time and pleasure. It's the ideal speed range for leisure travellers and those who specifically take the train to enjoy the views. "Bullet trains" running double the speed are fun to ride in, but everything you see outside is sort of like a blur. I wish we had that kind of trains here just slightly northeast of Malaysia. With the exception of East Timor, we probably are the country in SE Asia with the lowest density of railways (sadly)
Bullet trains are our best hope to beat air travel though. Especially considering that Singapore-Kuala Lumpur (approx. 300km by air and 350km by road) is the world’sbusiest air corridor despite its short length

I took this journey round trip in May, and it was fabulous. One note: I booked seat 6a going north and you only have a partial window view, plus the person in row 5 in front really “controls” the blinds. I was on an 8am train and the sun was still low. I missed the view because the passenger in front closed the blind. Looked as if the uneven numbered rows all had more of a window view. But overall, a great trip and felt comfortable as a solo female traveler.
Next year, for a long trip from Singapore-Malaysian border terminal station (JB Sentral Stn.) up to Thailand-Malaysia border station (Padang Besar Stn.) We hope that KTMB will reintroduce the sleeper bed seat in their ETS express train for a different experience to their passanger. And the fare shud be less than $35
Bus from Johor Baru -> Sadao/Hatyai is 120 MYR. Train fare is generally 2 times of bus fare. So you should expect 240 MYR, or 50 USD. Business class or sleeper, expect 3 times, which is 360 MYR, or 80 USD.
@@hann659 it's around $30 hatyai bangkok by express train sleeper bed or by express bus too. And the km also even more than us in Malaysian part as mention above
@@siddd88 Well, the SRT trains run on diesel. In Malaysia, diesel train fare may be low too. But there is hardly any diesel passenger train service around, so it is hard to compare. In any case, since it is going to be extinct, there is no point comparing with it. So, we will look at only electric train fare. And it is 2 times the bus fare. Even at 2 times, it is highly subsidized. By looking at how the Malaysian system works, you can expect the train fare to be higher for foreigners one day, that is, foreigners have to pay the un-subsidized fare. How much is it? I don't know. May be 50% more than 2 times? That is, 3 times.
@@hann659 $40 standard fare. $30 for Mykad users. Will not go on it for any higher fare. It will not be competitive then. To compare wth Thailand in tourism anything must be cheap cheap n cheap to attract passangers but with high frequency to cover the cost.

The name of the operator is Keretapi Tanah Melayu, which translates to Malayan Railway, not Malaysian Railway. It is the only public service provider in Malaysia that still uses the country’s former name, and I have no idea why 😃 Nice review, though as a Malaysian, I prefer the bus over ETS. One of my highest dislikes about the service is the constantly chattering PA system making one announcement or the other, almost non-stop. Never a moment of peace.😢
May I enlighten you. Persekutuan Tanah Melayu is the old name of Malaysia. The English name is Malaya. Initially I wonder too why the KTM never changes its name But I suppose the old name is retained as manifestation on the part of govt that Malaysians remember the history of the land
pengalaman saya dari KL sentral ke arau platinum, memuaskan, makanan pun sedap, memang licin makan. Seat selesa utk tidur, siap ada plug point boleh charge phone. Ada surau sekali
Next year (2025) the ETS route will continues from Singapore border to Thailand border. In 2026, the Singapore-Malaysia ‘shuttle LRT’ (RTS) will be linked with ETS station at Malaysia side.
The one-way ferry trip from Butterworth (Penang Sentral) Terminal to Penang Island terminal (Weld Quay) costs RM2.00 w.e.f. September 1, 2023. Motobikes RM2.50 Cars prohibited.
So incredibly cheap for a comfortable and clean train ride with food, drinks and snacks included. Not the best looking food/drinks, but still a great deal for the price. I'm just wondering if it would be better taking the plane or train from KL to Penang? 🤔
@@NonstopEurotrip Besides the price (which I'm not too concern about), why do you think the train is a better option? I'm more concern about the convenience and duration of travel to Penang (Georgetown) from KUL.

What about the overall noiselevel on the train ❓️
Really great, from train and passengers!
Nice capture and explain
Thanks a lot 😊
you should try train KTM Timuran (Eastern). the train and scenery is so different and the rain forest is untouched
I have ✌🏻
Next year, for a long trip from Singapore-Malaysian border terminal station (JB Sentral Stn.) up to Thailand-Malaysia border station (Padang Besar Stn.) We hope that KTMB will reintroduce the sleeper bed seat in their ETS express train for a different experience to their passanger.
That'll be interesting!
Have you been all the way to Padang Besar station? There's an integrated immigration counters for both Malaysia & Thailand, and there are some trains going to Hat Yai and a sleeper to Bangkok
Next week 😄😄
The name of the operator is Keretapi Tanah Melayu, which translates to Malayan Railway, not Malaysian Railway.
It is the only public service provider in Malaysia that still uses the country’s former name, and I have no idea why 😃
Nice review, though as a Malaysian, I prefer the bus over ETS. One of my highest dislikes about the service is the constantly chattering PA system making one announcement or the other, almost non-stop.
Never a moment of peace.😢
May I enlighten you.
Persekutuan Tanah Melayu is the old name of Malaysia.
The English name is Malaya.
Initially I wonder too why the KTM never changes its name
But I suppose the old name is retained as manifestation on the part of govt that Malaysians remember the history of the land
Amazing train I wish to visit there 🤗
You should!
@@NonstopEurotripsaye lebih suke coba kereta laju indo.dengan kelajuan 350 km/hours.
Most of the time, ETS train is cruising at 145-150kph. I think the operating speed limit is 150kph, though the train and track is designed for 160kph.
As mentioned in the video
Petronas Twin Towers for us Malaysians is called 'Persiaran KLCC' which is the actual name given since it is connected to the KLCC Mall.
I've heard many call it the twin towers
Quite an interesting journey. By the way, are you mainly a vegetarian?
Mainly, yes.
Great trip report
✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻
pengalaman saya dari KL sentral ke arau platinum, memuaskan, makanan pun sedap, memang licin makan. Seat selesa utk tidur, siap ada plug point boleh charge phone. Ada surau sekali
Absolutely 😁
Really
Next year (2025) the ETS route will continues from Singapore border to Thailand border.
In 2026, the Singapore-Malaysia ‘shuttle LRT’ (RTS) will be linked with ETS station at Malaysia side.
I can't wait 😍
always wanted to do this trip...one day i will!
You should!
The one-way ferry trip from Butterworth (Penang Sentral) Terminal to Penang Island terminal (Weld Quay) costs RM2.00 w.e.f. September 1, 2023. Motobikes RM2.50 Cars prohibited.
All information is correct at time of editing.
Ipoh station architecture is nice too! 😁
It sure is!
5:23 I had no idea that Diwali is celebrated in Malaysia. That's lit 😊
around 7% of Malaysian population is Malaysian of Indian race.
So incredibly cheap for a comfortable and clean train ride with food, drinks and snacks included. Not the best looking food/drinks, but still a great deal for the price. I'm just wondering if it would be better taking the plane or train from KL to Penang? 🤔
Definitely the train 🚆
@@NonstopEurotrip Besides the price (which I'm not too concern about), why do you think the train is a better option? I'm more concern about the convenience and duration of travel to Penang (Georgetown) from KUL.
may i know what brand of your bag pack is? looks cool and simple
Unfortunately I don't know I've got a new one since!
if you want to try the high speed train in Southeast asia, you can try jakarta bandung HSR in october, wich is running at 350km/h an only takes 40 minutes!
Don't worry, I know!
Saya sering naik kereta bermacam jenis di malaysia, tapi yang jenis ETS ini belum pernah.jadi saya ingin sekali naik kereta ETS ini. 🙏🤝
You should soon 😌
If you want to use the express bus to the nort this company have best seat from my experience

Thanks for the tip 😀
4:00 I don't know if it's you or RUclips, but in the CC km/h is wrongly written as "kmh".
waiting for the ECRL - Malaysia east coast rail completion in 2027. the East Coast Expressway is totally jammed during festive holidays.
That will be great!
Videos are also missing this key information... how do you book in advance? I only see business class in platinum trains, and they only see business class 24hrs in advance? I can't see anything otherwise... I want to book business class but I'm not seeing how/ where to do it, except for the day before
As mentioned, business class is only on platinum trains and you can book 3 months in advance on the KTM app, website or at a station
Stasiun di Kuala Lumpur. Seperti sebuah stasiun kota kecil di Indonesia. Sangat tertinggal jauh. 30 tahun ketinggalan dalam hal teknologi dan kenyamanan.
Beda lah..statsiun di indon masih kumuh dan penuh sampah😅😅
Very strange comment 🧐
@@NonstopEurotrip Don't bother about it... KL Sentral is very convenient indeed since my previous HQ located adjacent to it..before I used to board the midnight ETS from Butterworth and arrive at KL Sentral in the morning for a meeting or seminar and headed back in the evening. Ease of time and relax.
How is ride quality?
Really good! ✌🏻
It has station in Gombak, Puncak Alam and Serendah which will have Tunnel under Genting and connecting feeder bus to Genting theme parks.while on east coast it will stops in Cherating. Tell me if this will not generate money from residents in KL and Puncak Alam who wishes to visit Genting and Cherating hassle free, dont forget foreign tourist
Interesting, thanks! 😎
I caught a cold just before going on holiday, but...
*Nothing will stop me from going on holidays, fellas!*
I hope you had a nice time Pedro! ✌🏻
I also caught a cold when travelling from Gemas to Butterworth on August 2023! The aircond in the coach was cold after departing from Tanjung Malim.
@@francisloo9556 Yes. I don't quite understand why the aircon thermostat in our buses and trains are often set too cold. 24-25°C should be just pleasant.
Wow Malaysia best untuk semua perjalanan
I love Malaysia 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
Try one in Indonesia to feel different railway experience. The backbone of train system in the country for decades, Indonesian Railway Company.
