- In this video review, James heads to Great Linford to test out the Fujifilm's X-H2 and XF 56mm F1.2. A brand-new 40-megapixel X-Trans 5 BSI, APS-C sensor camera. With great photographic and video specs, this is the perfect camera for hybrid FujiFilm shooters.

Im really impressed how this camera handles high iso. Especially for a crop sensor
Hi James, great review, thank you. Currently use an xt-4 with its only downside for me being the poor af when shooting birds of prey. Did you try the tracking feature on the xh-2? Have loaned a xh-2s from Fuji and found it to be much better but for my other photography genres (macro, landscape mainly) I wonder if the show-2 would be better? Cannot afford both bodies so appreciate a compromise might be needed. Would appreciate your thoughts/advice. Many thanks. Terry
Excellent review, very comprehensive. It's a tempting proposition but I'll wait to see what the X T5 has to offer.
when is it coming out?
The XT-5 will offer less. The X series is a lower tier than the H series.
The (announced/rumoured) lack of a battery grip for the xt5 makes the xh2 far more interesting to
me.
Nice video. What telephoto lens were you using for the shots of the lions and ostriches at about the 5:40 mark?
thanks for lowlight test~!!
No problem!! Thank you for the comment - James
This is the first Fuji I have been really excited about. The last one I preordered was the X-T3. The images were great but I didn't like the grip, non-flippy screen, battery life, record limit, and non-ibis. Yeah there was a lot missing for me. But this guy here....I'm super excited.
Which one you recommend for newbie that will like record blogs and take pictures and some slow motion the hx2 ot the hx2s
Thanks for the review. Quick one, Can it trace eyes/faces during the video?
So the xh2 does not have dual native iso as the Sony a7iv? Which would you say is the overall better camera?
Great review. Tempted to trade my Canon R6 for this camera.
It’s a good looking machine! What’s the weatherproofing/durability like?
It is a very capable camera especially if you're a hybrid shooter to both needs photography and video. The body is splash and dash resistant, and can operate in conditions under 10C
When is this gonna be available in UK?
Thanks for the great review. I am a little concern about the lack of color correction on some of the wedding images shown. Is this because it's not a full production camera?
Is there any crop when recording in 120fps or 240fps in 1080p or 4k???please let me know
So there is no cropping on any of the video modes which I think is a big positive, Due to the 40MP sensor, the X-H2 can offer higher-resolution video than the X-H2S. thanks for the comment - James
Yes, there is a 1.14 crop in 4k 60
It's not grain at high ISO, it's digital noise.
I have just recently purchased the X-H2 and the 150-600mm lens, what can I say as a once Nikon only person I have found how easy the H-X2 is to use and get constantly perfect results. The focus tracking is better than the Sony in my opinion and with the 15 exsp fast track I have still had clear focus images. I am thinking of trading my Nikon and potentially my Pro X-2 in for another X-H2.
How is low light or night shooting performance? Can you get results that are similar to what we see with a naker eye?
Slight error, it has a base ISO of 125, not 100. Also, since Fujifilm uses a different ISO standard it's more like ISO200 on other brands.
"since Fujifilm uses a different ISO standard"
eh. what?..
@@maxbashyrov5785 There's different ISO standards, Fujifilm uses SOS while CaSoNikon uses REI. ISO 100 on a Canon, Nikon or Sony camera is equal to around ISO 200 on Fujifilm.
In other words if you set a Fujifilm camera to the same ISO as another one using the REI standard the Fujifilm camera will be exposed darker and you'll have to raise the ISO further to get equal exposure between the two cameras.
@@Psiwt ok, looks like I need to do some research.
"equal exposure" - you mean "equal brightness"
You didn’t mention at all what video settings you were using for the iso test, Flog-1, Flog-2, h265, prores etc… basic information that really does change how noise is afffected.
To keep the tests fair I just used the standard profile that Fuji film has for its video. But you are correct if you filmed in either F-Log1 or F-Log2, you would get better ISO performance. Thanks for the comment - James
2:30 usually f1.2 lenses are slow?
Slow-focusing.
on fuji line up
Does the XH2 have a similar option to Nikon's in-camera crop mode, like doing a 1.25x crop? That'd be great with the available 40MP?
Yes. In Fujis it's called "Sports Finder Mode" (1.29 crop).
Also, bokeh is not the separation of the foreground and the background.
You mentioned that pros but you omitted the two biggest steps backward in the X-H2 compared to the X-H1 and, no, I am not talking about loss of the dials in favor of psam.
First there is the flip screen instead of a tilt screen. The camera has pixel shift, which implies a tripod. And a tripod professionally (or advanced ameture) is often coupled with an L bracket. But a flip screen is not very compatible with an L bracket. And, with a tilt screen all one had to do was to pull out the edge (long or short), and done. But with a flip screen, changing orientations requires rotating the screen in one axis then rotating it in another axis then repositioning the angle, all while taking care not to damage a small hinge. (As an aside, all camera makers have had flip screen hinge damage - I couldn't find any tilt screen damage reports.)
Second, there is the focus selector lever that is changed to a button and menu option scrolling prossess. So, instead of a momentary flick of my left third or fouth finger while still paying attention to composition, one must now push a button, view a list, and select from that list. This changes a near-subconscious experience into a distracting computer operational experience.
I had hoped to order the X-H2 as soon as available, now I will wait to see what the X-T5 will be. The higher resolution is great but I much prefer paying attention to my composition rather than option lists or manipulating a flippy screen.
The base ISO is 125.
low lightのシーンで木陰がインベーダーゲームになってるのは何故なの?😢
Base iso is 125!
this video is not real 4k, its upscaled or native 1080p, why upload as 4k then?
Was hearing I-s-o so many times, had to comment. It’s pronounced iso Bro. Just saying… (great vid by the way - many thanks)
"ISO removal software".. :p
Of all the improvements companies male on this cameras, why WHY!!! almost no one implement a curtain to protect the sensor from the dust?, really is not that complex, amd for me is a deal breaker for video. Even being super careful is not enough, and the worst thing that can happen to you is to shoot a gig or something important only to find a little dust point in the image...
useful content.
Glad you think so! Thank you for your comment - James
No mention of focussing technology, or it's ability !!!
Focusing technology is the same as the X-H2S. reason I didn't mention in this review is because I didn't want to duplicate specifications. The focusing is really good and precise in both photography and video. Thank you for your comment - James
@@WexPhotoVideo the focusing isn’t the same at all. From the words of Fuji Reps themselves… though it is better than the xt4, It’s noticeably slower than the xh2s due to it not being a stacked sensor.
That is not true.
Where’s the lovely Amy Moore?
The guy really doesn't know or understand this camera saying nonsense such as this is great for sports photography or that the video is limited to 160 minutes and the vent accessory may increase it to 240 minutes. Such nonsense one may hear only from somebody who has no idea about this camera and the sibling X-H2S.
I love this new X-H2 camera by NASA. I guess they will be taking it on the international space station to image the earth? NASA do great cameras, don't they?! 😁
If I was Mr/Mrs Fujifilm I would not be happy.
You sound like an ad
40 MP in a crop sensor is probably pointless.
How so? Why would it make a difference if it was full frame? 40MP is 40MP regardless.
It would be perfect if it didn’t have that infuriating flippy flappy screen.
Why oh why do camera companies keep with this Damn screen!!! The side hinged screen is slow, obtrusive and a pain in the backside. Just STOP IT!!Please give us a choice. For this reason alone I will not buy this camera, so disappointed.
Then you'll have to buy something else, but you'll find most are fully articulating and that's largely due to video, which like it or not is a growing market all manufacturers are chasing.
The oscillating screen is helpful in some situations when you're either filming yourself or wanting the screen at a specific angle. But I can understand your frustration, naturally the hinge won't be as strong as a tilting screen and I can see why you think it is obtrusive. Annoyingly most camera companies are moving forward with this idea. Thank you for your comment - James
This is a hybrid shooter’s camera, this screen is perfect. There are other cameras with tilting screens that fuji makes if you want it. This is a very opinionated topic. More people lean towards full articulation so that’s what we get. When they make a 40mp photo-only camera, I’m sure it’d have a tilting screen like the GFX system, but reasonably so… that is for photo-only cameras. It would make this camera worse if it had that limiting tilt screen.
What kind of screen do you prefer? You can tilt and swivel this screen way you want. It is absolutely perfect and definitely not "slow". How do you even come up with this nonsense?
