How much did u pay for your truck
@@24hrstolive27 $11k before tax title and fees
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ wow man how did you get it so cheap?
120k for this truck thats still brand new
@@jaymoar3561Cheap? I don’t think so. Remember this thing is like 15 years old. I think 11,000 was a lot, not crazy because of what it is but I think it was more like a 8 to 10,000 dollar car before modifications.
Looks great! I have a 2005 V8, same exact color and everything. I have been slowly making updates as needed as well, and it looks like a lot of the stuff I have been contemplating has been done to your rig. I have had my eye on a grill that looks very similar to that one, just recently bought the ko2's, and have a lift on the way. Thanks for showing me the potential of what mine may be looking like in the next couple weeks!
I've also got an 05 v8. I love it. I have Falken Wildpeak MTs and they're quite nice, but I think I'll get some ATs like K02s for my next set, as I had some on my previous 97 4runner and I liked them more than the Falken's I've got now.
Since you're looking into suspension, I've got Dobinsons IMS coilovers and I've been extremely impressed with them. I highly recommend it if you're looking at suspension.
Bro, you are the Man. 3d printing and adding a heat sink to the head unit
Hey Alex can you make a video on how you wired the area light when opening the door. That's pretty awesomeness. Would definitely add that to my rig.
I would also love a video walking us through this the best you can without having to rip it all apart. I think it’s a great feature to have it setup to work on auto or manual as desired. Is there maybe a write up on one of the forums somewhere on how to do this?
For the people who want a grille like the one in this video, check out our channel!
love this video it really gives me great ideas for my 07’! and all the links helps so greatly too!
Can you do a video adding the fan to the auto head unit? 👍
Solid video man! I've done most of these mods, but its cool to see what others have done on their vehicles and how they've implemented them. The fan in the head unit is freaking genius!
This is the cleanest build I’ve seen so far
The added fan to the head unit was clutch, out of curiosity will you doing an install video on that? Not too savy when it comes to electrical stuff myself. Overall great build, great look!
bump
It's as simple as buying the right fan and basically plugging it into the motherboard then securing it. Very simple process.
I’m not planning to do a video install on it. There are other videos out there that will do a way better job of explaining it than I can haha.
Love the lights on the roof rack, I need to get some now. I dont know anything about wiring so I've got some learning to do
This is one of the simplest cleanest builds ive seen! Curious if you still have the same head unit in it
Yep! Still doing great. Appreciate the compliment.
loved the modifications, can you make a video going in-depth on how you ran the welcome lights under the car to turn on when the door opens ?
Yes I'll include that in the follow up video I am working on.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_Wow... nice mods!! I am exited to watch the follow up video you said working on...about the lights and other wiring staff. I hope you post some time soon! Anyways, Happy new year!!!
Meticulous mods! Superbly done love it. By any chance did you make video of the head unit installation? I loved it and would like to upgrade mine. Its JBL audio head unit with factory navigation and back up camera.
I have the same car and this is literally what I envisioned when I think of what I’m going to do to my car.
Looking at a 2008 v8 4 runner limited 200,000km from a dealership. Sewer is asking $20,000 CDN. Carfax is saying the private sale price is $11,300. What should I offer the dealer?
Beautiful Build Brother
Much appreciated
I’ve sold 2 in the past with low miles. 1 was 03 had 200k 4x4 v8 and the other recently 04 160k 2wd. I’ve regretted both times. Next time im keeping it 😢
That’s such a tastefully modded 4runner
I would pay you to install those add on on my 4Runner. Looks good man
Very nice, well done build.. btw also bought the BFG’s same size @ Costco for $1200. kudos to you for getting it for such a deal.
He took advantage of the mysterious yearly buy 3 get 1 free!!
I have a 99 limited and I guess it’s the classic nature of the gen3 but I don’t want to update anything to more modern stuff like TRd rims or a touch screen. I kinda love having something that is like it was taken from a time capsule. It all looks great on this gen 4 though.
Your 4r is so clean! I'm interested in getting the head unit you have. Can you share the heat sink/fan info?
Thank you sir! I’ve added links to the heatsink and fan in the description.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ how do you make it to where the fan turns on with the radio
Where did you find these mats? (09:35) They look great! I also carry my dog around everywhere and want to set up something similar. Great vid!
Were you not a fan of the OEM side steps/Rock sliders? I'm debating to take mine off or not, but I don't really know if i'll like it.
I took them off and haven't regretted it at all. Usually I didn't even use them to get in/out but my pants would brush up against them and get dirty. They're very simple to remove/install so you can always try it out and reinstall if it isnt for you.
247k miles on my 06 4Runner and still going. Super reliable and all stock
Моя любимая машина! Только у меня Японец Surf 215, правый руль. 7 лет наслаждаюсь уже.
Very nice setup. Thank you for the in-depth overview of your 4Runner.
Some amazing mods
Nice bro, this is slick!
Can you link the control switch ? That look oem? They are flushed to the other 2 ones
I love this build, thanks fore giving me the idea for the lift! I have a 2WD 4th gen and have been sweating spending a grand on new shocks and struts.
Great modifications on the 4Runner especially on the lights mounted on the roof rack and underneath the car.
This is nicely done. Congratulations
Where did you get the switches for the center console & dash?
I really enjoyed your video, thank you! Is there anyway you could show how you did the wiring for the rock lights? Did you use the existing wiring thats there for the side steps? Thank you!
Thanks Luis! The wiring for the rock lights is tied into the dome circuit or a constant 12v source depending on the 3 position switch I also wired in. There are four lights all wired in parallel so there’s just one cable having to go through the firewall.
Thanks for the reply!
Wow! that grill mod looks super clean and stock. I've been looking to do mine, now I'll look for a 3rg gen Tacoma one
I got my 4Runner a year ago too, I started out doing trail runs throughout Southern California but starting 6 months ago I started to customize mine. So far front lift & new tires, next I want some lights.
I see the stick headlights.. I am wondering if you will replace those some time? or keep them? I have the same galactic grey color and am contemplating getting blacked out headlights
I did upgrade the bulbs to LEDs for both low beams and high beams. I thought about changing to an aftermarket version but honestly the stock ones don’t bother me. If they weren’t projectors then I’d probably be more inclined to upgrade. Plus that’s a $$$$ upgrade.
Mine are starting to look a bit yellow, might be time to sand and recoat with 2K clear.
Checkout “rickyspanish_4runner” on Instagram. He’s a buddy of mine that also has a galactic grey 4Runner and he has a great set of lights.
Awesome work. I've got an '08 and it's been fun upgrading it one step at a time. I just got the lift, rims and tyres done. Up next, the grill.
Nice work! So much fun modifying these cars to make them ours.
Hi Alex, awesome build, I have a an '07 myself same galactic grey just hit 100k miles on it, I love it. quick question I see you've been bombarded already lol, where did you connect the charging cable for your phone mount? and is it attached via 3M? Thank You
Thanks man! Not a problem, I found so much helpful info on YT to give me inspiration so I'm happy to give back. The phone mount was originally mounted with double sided tape (3M commercial grade very high bond) for about a year before it started to fail. Since this video was posted I went ahead and drilled two holes to add bolts to hold it to the dash. I figured if I was happy with the location for a year I might as well make the mount more secure. Only bad thing is that it sometimes gets in the way of large water bottle or cup if i need to put one in that location.
Some very nice mods
Stereo is dope
@hurricanessoccer24 where did you get that rubber mat and material is it. It's a great idea
It’s rubber material that I purchased from Home Depot. You can find it next to the artificial turf.
Beautiful 4Runner!
I love your 4Runner it looks great!
Sick build! how many MPG do you typically get with your mods?
16mpg city, 18mpg highway. I got about 3mpg better before the mods. Tires made the biggest impact on the fuel economy.
I have a 2004 4 Runner and have a little over 40,000 miles on it. It’s always been garaged. Love that vehicle.
40k??? where are you located?
@@jiimmyboi12 I was in Alaska for 15 years. I lived 2 miles from work and shopping.
@@DoogieDoggie okay cool. I have 2004 as well. Mine has 211k but I live in Florida so it’s never seen snow. Zero rust on the frame.
Where's the Hi-Lift? the std 4r jack won't get a tire clear of the ground with a 2.5+ lift
Luckily I haven't had to change a tire out in the wild yet so I haven't had to figure this out the hard way. I'll look into being better prepared, thank you for bringing this to my attention!
Bonjour,
je suis un vrai fan de 4Runner . Puisse en avoir un? Rire....
nice looking 4runner! i have a 2005 2wd with the 4.7 V8 and l love mine. i sold my 18 wrx to carmax and have put a little money into mine as well. i went with the 5th gen toyota TRD off road wheels. i did Bilstein 5100's on front and back and a Gibson cat back and lots of maintenance done as this motor is a interference motor and the timing belt needed to be changed. those tires look really good. im going with those next time for sure.
Awesome build already for you! Congrats. I love the way the tires look too, just not sure they’re worth the mpg hit.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ I did hankook dynapto at2’s. It’s a good all around tire. Maybe Goodyear wranglers’s instead.
Hows the ride comfort after installing the 5100 bielstein suspension?
Where did you get your exhaust tip from does your 4Runner have a 4.7
I got it off Amazon, link in description with more details.
I have the 4.0L V6
Great mods! Subscribed!
Is the front grill link on the description? I Really like it for my baby
It is not. I custom made mine with a grill off a Tacoma. Here is a similar style off Amazon:
amzn.to/3JAetih
Hey can you share more on how you did your back up camera modification?
Wires were ran under the trim on the floor, through the cargo side panels, up to the spoiler, then a small hole drilled to run the wires to the mounting location on the center of the spoiler. The head unit has a trigger wire that connects to the reverse light circuit so it knows when to kick on.
I love the video keep it up!
Beautiful car, great mods. Very clean and tide.
Thank you!
The lights on the frame underneath that light up when doors open, was it hard to configure or setup and was the headunit regarding the backup camera hard to setup as well? Wondering if you can do a video on how you set those 2 up. I like how minimal you kept it and love all the interior infotainment is. I'm hopefully will be getting into a 4 runner again soon because I have 3 dogs and will be most likely be setting up the back cargo and seating area the same. Glad I stumbled onto your channel and video! Out of everything you set up, I like the wheel setup, infotainment inside from the phone holder to screen and backup area was cool. I'd want the same setup. I listen to a lot of music when I'm driving and my girls do too so hopefully I can set it up for them. They love sticking their heads out the window and going bye bye is what going for a ride means for them. I'll be mostly going to Cali hitting the road with them alot. Thanks for the video dude cool setup!
Hey thanks man! Means so much. Im happy with how its turned out and appreciate all the positive feedback. The joying head unit was a risk but it has really paid off, its been great for me. Since I posted this video I upgraded the cloth to black leather via a premade kit by a company called Katzkins. I was planning to make another video on that and can include some sections to talk about the under lights and back up camera. The back up camera wasnt too difficult to install, hardest part was threading the cable through the rubber sleeving to get it to the spoiler. I accidentally wired the cable too short and made it way harder than it needed to be. Alway be sure to add way more slack in the wiring than you think you'll need! Lesson learned. Be on the lookout for that updated video.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ for sure dude.. I'll keep an eye out, I just thought it was really awesome that the under lights faded out the way it does and that sounds badass you upgraded to katskinz I'm sure their quality is amazing. Overall I like that you keep your lights minimal. Awesome work! I was really surprised how bright the roof rack lights are!
If I don’t add the fan to my head unit will it eventually be damaged?
The original design doesn’t have the fan or heat sink and it isn’t a necessity to add. Adding doesn’t hurt and only benefits the cooling.
Looks great!
I would love to hear more about the led frame mounted lights that activate when the door opens. Do you have instagram or something I could contact you on?
Check out this video of a couple that installed rock lights. ruclips.net/video/S4T8HCEOB8c/видео.html
I used the same lights that are on my roof rack and installed directly under the doors on the frame since I wanted that area illuminated. I wired them all together and then ran the consolidated wire to the engine bay, through the fire wall, and then to a 3 position rocker switch (positive wire to switch, negative wire to ground). 1 switch position connects the positive wire to an always hot 12v source, 1 position doesn't connect it to anything (off), and the final position connects it to the dome circuit so that the lights go on automatically when a door is opened or car is unlocked.
where would the dome circuit be located?
Very nice and clean. Unfortunately for me, I’m having frame rot rust issues
I replaces my frame with one from down South. It wasn't cheap, but what else do you do when you can put a screw driver through the frame.
You can sometimes get people who are good at welding certain points on the Frame. I'd look into that first, if it seems reasonable.
@@tigergreg8 I just got my frame repaired by a local fabrication shop. I’m curious, how much did a complete frame replacement run you?
@@comradeivan8134 With everything all together, s$10,000 Ya, you read that right, If you had anything below 6000 for a good repair, you did very well.
@@tigergreg8 Oh wow, you weren’t kidding. Yeah all told my repairs came out to $2,800, and for the amount of work he had to do, he could have charged me a lot more. As much as I’d like an entirely new frame, if I get another 100,000-150,000 out of it I will be happy.
@@comradeivan8134 Man, I would have been willing to lose a nut to just pay $2800. 😂
Do all the regular stuff regularly and you’ll get the mileage.
Hi , nice job I’m interested knowing what type of LED you used for the cluster panel? Thank you
Hello, thank you! I added a link in the description to the leds I used :)
How difficult was it to install the LEDs, soldering?
the factory red lights in mine are way better at night for ones eyes..and I am a pilot with red lights in my aircraft those white lights as background are not good for night driving..but takes away from the commodification video

Yep! No issues other than the occasional restart once every two months
So sick
Where did you get the black trd exhaust tip? It’s looks gnarly 🔥

16 year old car? From 2008? That’s 14 years lol
Very Nice! I'm building a 04 V8 same color, same rims. I like the lighting you did it works well with the 4Runner.
hi did u still have to trim to fit 275 70 17?
Yes I had to trim the front bumper a couple inches and then do a body mount chop
VERY VERY NICE MODIICATIONS!!! PROPS!!!😎😎😎
Where did u get this radio tell me plz ?
It is made by a company called Joying. Link is in the description.
Nice ride man! I bought my 2008 Sport V6 4wd with 170k on the clock 6 years ago and couldn't be happier with it. I'm envious how rust-free that thing must be!
Does it feel zippy/peppy?
@@triplea6174 For me it's plenty peppy, especially when passing. I did learn early on to leave it in 4th around town to eliminate it's desire to be in 5th
Absolutely love your build! I bought an 05 last month slowly bringing her back to life. So far I've done bilstein 5100 series front and rear, new control arms, new tires, new sun visors and next up is new wheels! Can't decide on the wheels. Great vid, cheers!
Also 900 for those tires... especially for 17s is a steal. I paid like 1200 for my ko2s I put on the stock 16" wheels.
What’s the paint called?
Galactic Grey Paint Code 1E9
I will have to do a few of these on my 07 sport salsa red 4x4 4.7L v8 dual Arb Lockers Rig
That’s all the best options! Going to be sick! Enjoy.
do you need new upper control arms no matter what if you get a spacer lift?
Not always. A lot of people reported no issue with a spacer lift on stock UCAs. When I did mine I noticed a decrease in handling on the highway. Maybe some people don’t care about that but I have no regrets spending the money to get aftermarket UCAs.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ thanks!
What about mudflaps? I have stock mud flaps on my 2006 SR5 now and winter driving sprays and freezes thick on side of vehicles. Northern Alberta.
I’m in Texas so that isn’t really an issue for me thankfully.
can you go over the remote start?
The remote start had already been installed when I bought it. There may be some other videos on RUclips that can explain the install
Did you change tranny fluid as well?
Yep! I changed it through the coolant line with Toyota WS fluid. No issues before but I did notice it shifted smoother afterwards.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ oh wow. I’ve been skeptical about it bc I’ve heard it can be damaging to the tranny to change it after it gets used to the old oil or something like that.
@@hattrick257 Yeah I've read that too. From what I gathered, if your tranny is already on the brink of imploding then changing the fluid may be enough to send it over the edge. That does not mean changing the fluid is bad, it means the tranny was already so messed up that the old thicker fluid was helping it stay together just a bit longer. As long as you are draining the fluid and replacing it with the exact same volume of fluid it will not damage the tranny. Changing the filter is not worth dropping the transmission pan, you're then risking messing with the seal and the filter is more of a chicken fence type of design. It blocks large (0.5") particles which don't occur normally. It is not like an oil filter that takes our fine particles from the engine oil.
I did exactly what this guy did here: ruclips.net/video/LD9QC5JqXWc/видео.html
Damn I wished I was technically inclined ;(
Awesome!! Really cool lighting 👍
Cleanest 4th gen I have ever seen. Great job.
your not normal bro your a scientist when it comes to mods lol
2006 198,000 miles SR5 V6 love this truck. I'm going to retire soon, take the truck back from my son who uses it for his daily driver and start doing some mods for the next 200,000 miles.
Wish you all the best!
didnt do the steering wheel buttons update install linking up to the new head unit? and incorporating them? yikes..and taking off the running boards not adding lights under them? even worse and nothing for having the trunklid open and lighting underneath when camping and bike riding at night...and I have an 07 sport edition with 250k and stock XREAS..with airbags on the rear...technology without integration is a fail..just my own thoughts
Sarcasm? The steering wheel controls work with my updated head unit. I never used the running boards and prefer the look without them installed, so I removed them. For the trunklid I do have a way to light that area. I installed a metal disc (seen at 9:30) that is for a flashlight with a magnet mount. This method keeps the flashlight portable. Technology is integrated for my use cases, yours may be different.
Great video! Gave me some ideas for my T4R. Would this lift allow for 285 70 17s?
I had to trim the front fenders, body mount, and hammer down the welded seam. I’m sure with more cutting you’ll be able to fit 285s. To be honest though, having tires that big with the same lift I have will make it look like it isn’t lifted at all. I’ve had people think my setup doesn’t have a lift with my tires and lift combo.
It would be nice to go back to C loaded tires as 275s are only in E load.
How's the freedom offroad UCAs ? I know its affordable relatively, but is it worth the switch?
No problems after a year. I only got them to improve the caster after I installed the lift. With the OEM UCAs the caster was way below what it should be.
Very nice build. I have a stock 06 v8 with 247k miles. I decided to check around for some ideas on a new look and this popped up.
Woah that's a lot of miles! Thanks for stopping by! There's plenty of things you can do for a new look, hope you found some things you were interested in.
How’s the tablet holding up ?
Been going strong for just over 2.5 years now. Screen still looks the same as when I bought it. It’s far exceeded my expectations, especially in the Texas heat.
@@Etch_A_Fletch_ compatible with 5th gen?
That so so cool I'm looking at 08 with 190 miles very very clean and in great condition V8 4w drive and all these things make it look so clean, I don't know squat about upgrading car but man so I want to
That’s awesome! There are so many upgrade possibilities for this car for all experience levels, I’m sure you’ll make some mods of your own in no time.
A great innovative build. I really liked your video. You have great insights, just use a better microphone so we can hear what you have to say clearer next time!

with all the lights you’ve added or upgraded, I was wondering if it is a good idea to get a bigger battery? Sorry, I don’t know much about these type of things and am trying to learn more. great looking 4Runner tough.
Thank you! Most of the lights are relatively low powered and not all used at the same time. I did opt for a higher quality battery but will probably just keep 1 unless I start going on more camping trips where I need more juice.
Your an animal I love u 4runner wow.
The 🛞 I want to buy the same and rims to
Why would you spend money on a lift and offroad wheels on a 2WD 4 runner?
You should have put instead some nice looking 20in wheels and low profiles tires to make it a great mall crawler .
Because I like the way it looks and I love not having to worry about popping a tire from a pothole on my way to the mall.
