I just got my son a 2003 V8 Sport with 182k for $5500 USD. Sure it’s a little long in the tooth and needs a few things but I’m in love with it, it’s easy to work on, and will last him through college (and beyond) if taken care of. Already put about another $1k in it, but it’s a fun process and will bring my son and I closer to
Hopefully rust free, that’s a good deal! Just brought my 07 v8 home with 140k miles for about $15k. Little more than I wanted to spend, but it’s in great condition and was close to home so I could personally inspect it before buying. I had people in 4-5 different states looking at 4Runners for me. Good to have friends…
Just got my 05 V8 Limited 4WD for $4200. Clean frame and body, and interior. Upgraded radio. 256k miles. Still pulls hard and runs smooth. Stock, lots of new parts. Got it from some rich dude out in the country sides with multiple garage stalls. Good deal for Michigan 100%
Great Video, like the fact you enjoy your build and plan to keep it forever. Living in Texas, I have an 05 Runner, no rust 160K but pretty much stock other than a new TRD grill like yours. When she turns 20 going to give her a face lift, Great content, thanks for sharing
Sounds about right lol. Bought my 04 V6 Limited 4wd for $5k in 2016. Have spent at least another $5k in upgrades (dobinsons, Camburg UCAs, rims, 285s, sound system) since. Well worth it!
I think I've been spending the same amount on my Sequoia 07 but without wheels, fridge and the rack. I spent a lot doing the timing belt and water pump, lower bolt joint and undercoating. But overall happy with mine truck. Good videos 👌 thanks for share that
Well done man that’s a great looking 4 runner! Is it necessary to re-gear the axle ratios if you want to put on larger tires like you did with the 33 inch or even a 34 inch tire?
I truly enjoyed the grow up comment. I’ve only been out on a real trail less than a dozen times and line choice seems natural to me. But in my opinion I’m still a noob. Once I get my son a 4th Gen Runner. It’s on!!!
You did good job with the build dude, she looks great.I daily drive 2012 tundra and I want want a newer one but I just can’t justify price they want for newer ones.
I got my V8 sport edition shadow mica 4runner one owner 💯 stock for 12.5k, added 285s on TE rims just need a leveling kit to get rid of minimal rubbing at full lock under load.
This is timely for me. I have a 2006 Limited V8 4Runner with 123k miles that just got its door, right front fender, and right side oem step damaged. The body shop says $9403us, which might be close enough to book for the insurance company to total it. It has no rust and before the accident I was considering replacing the headlights. It’s my favorite vehicle and I’m hoping the insurance company doesn’t total it, but instead simply fixes the damage. If I keep it I would enjoy doing some of these upgrades.
@@mateozamacona7099 - you’re right, and they said that also (the insurance company agreed with me and my witnesses that their client was at fault), but then I would have the car under a salvage title. I don’t know what the limits are of that.
Weird question, I have an 03 limited v8, how do I point my headlights down? I think I got the same set as you. Might be different for the pre-facelift though.
Great video and comment at the end regarding the rear locking diff. I've only used mine once off road other than that I just drive smart lol. I my do a video for my Gen 3 4Runner Limited. Thanks for some ideas. 👍🏾
Cost to build mine Wheels 1000 Tires 1000 1 inch suspension lift 1000 Roof basket 150 Basically just a camping, light dirt trail woods rig. No rock crawling or creek driving anymore like my 3rd gen I had. Can't dedicate my life to one truck ever again, especially when keeping up with maintenance at the same time.
Probably needs a new rear drive shaft. There was a TSB about the factory ones being bad.. they were warrantied til 2016 I think. Check the weatherstripping above the doors in the front, it might leak in heavy rain.
Awesome List (with pics!) one question - CHASE LIGHTS! You have the "rear spoiler" - does this get in the way of visibility from cars ? how far back behind you do you have to be to see them? they look like the Spoiler interferes - and that's what's keeping me from doing this. Thoughts ? love the channel!
I was concerned about that too but the lights are bright enough that it doesn't seem to be much of an issue. You could also mount them higher up if you want to but I chose to have them tucked in for better clearance
😎 I enjoyed all of this. I'm a subscriber of yours. I have an 06 4Runner SR5 V6. 200k. I paid $1,000 for it. I'm definitely using some of your ideas. I'm keeping my 4Runner as well. 👍🏼😎🌴
Another great video. Did Canada separate from North America? I live in Minnesota and I don't remember have to take a boat to cross over to the continent that Canada is a part of.
Enjoy while we can. imagine working on electric cars making modifications. I already picture some of us growing old , boring and have nothing mechanical to do for fun.
Dont bother trying to sell it, everyone is broke. Mine has been all gone through like yours and I didnt get any bites at $16K so I kept it. They are actually worth more in the US and a better market for them down there than up here.
Just wait till you kid gets closer to college age. You'll be kicking yourself in the rear. I was driving junkers until my son graduated from college, then I splurged on myself with cars and boats.
first off, a new 2024 4runner cost 57k in America, second off, you have a 20-year-old 4runner at 30k, that extra money to buy a brand-new truck is well worth it. You haven't mentioned the timing belt replacement for 2k yet and the 5k for all the other belts and the 20k to fix underneath the truck yet, lol. keep dreaming
DARN GOOD BARGAIN, BUD
It was parked in my neighbor's driveway and his wife wanted it out of her way. So I much obliged them 1k$ later. 😁$$$$

I just got a 2005 V8 with 330kms... A lotta road on her but I am pumped to get into the 4Runner world. Thanks for your insightful videos.
I don't have a 4runner but 02 Sequoia and share the same motor. Subscribed from your neighbor Alaska! Lol

I did TRQ Ignition Coils on my 05 V8 4runner. So far has seemingly given the ole girl a bit of a pep in her step.
Haha Two days later. Removed them. They seemingly limited the ole girl from getting past 2k RPMs.
I agree-- I love the METHOD wheels too!!! I don't need over fancy crap to get screwed up later.. :)

The Pioneer 2660Nex is what I go and its pretty great. For $350 and got it installed at bestbuy - $500 total. Good unit

Apparently the Doug Thorley building burnt down in 2020. Since then yup- very hard to get. Burtman says usually its a 3 month wait from purchase date.
Interesting, that makes a lot of sense!

Take your coilovers out and cycle the suspension to do the trimming, then you’ll know you dont have rub while actually using the vehicle
I have about 17,000 CAD in my 04 V8 and it's not near finished yet.

I need to move to Canada. 127K mile V8 4th gen for $10.3K!?!?!?
Damn!!’
I got my 2004 v6 4Runner 160k for 7k in New York. I’ve had it for 2 years and it is awesome. 😎
that was like 6 years ago, nowadays you need to be extremely patient and lucky to find a v8 4th gen that isn't completely rotted out due to rust
that is a good deal - especially if it's in good condition and not rusty underneath
Can I buy your factory rims to took off
Weird question, I have an 03 limited v8, how do I point my headlights down? I think I got the same set as you. Might be different for the pre-facelift though.
There are adjustment screws on them, not sure if it's the same for preface lifted ones either but maybe I'll make a quick YT short for ya
8mm socket on a 1/4 drive rachet ... unscrew them to raise the beam, screw in to lower it
you'll be able to do it easily - good luck
Great video and comment at the end regarding the rear locking diff.

I my do a video for my Gen 3 4Runner Limited.
Thanks for some ideas. 👍🏾
Thanks for the videos you've convinced me to trade in my 2021 Chevy Tahoe Z for a 4th Gen 4Runner!
lol good idea

thaaaannnkkk you. this is wildly helpful. starting my 4th gen build in the fall
Pardon my intrusion, but what do you do for a living? That's a lot of sweet upgrade flex.
I know this is just a parts list, but I wonder how much was the DT short tube install with welding stock cats
I had a friend do it so I'm not sure what the going rate would be at a shop
I got a 03 2wd 4Runner sport for $2000 with the V8. Obviously it will never be fully capable off road vehicle. Any thoughts on upgrades?

Hey man this thing is sick! So how has it been since buying it at that 200k mark? What were your top 3 things to tackle when you bought it?
Bro, appreciate the info. Love the look of your 4 Runner. What size lift kit and shocks did you have installed?
Thanks!
Fox 2.0 coilovers with Old Man Emu rear springs
@@CanadianGearheadThank you, so that’s a 2” lift?

I just bought a 2004 v6 SR5 4x4 with 140k miles for 6k. was this a good price or should i have haggled some more
There was slight rust, nothing major. Has sticky calipers and the interior wasn't had but it did need some tlc
You got a pretty decent deal . Where im at in georgia, people are selling a regular SR5 2WD V6 for $5000+ with 220k+ miles😊 @happy_nanami3310
Would you care to go a little more in depth on those hatch lights? I really like those.
Awesome video. Man I get excited when I see vids pop up about your T4R. Hey question. What kind of stock head unit did yours have before you upgraded.
It was just the standard JBL unit without nav. Thanks for watching!
What was the name of the tire on the Tacoma ?
Motomaster Eliminator X-Trail AT
Your 4Runner definitely is a sexy beast!!

That's a smoking deal!
Yes it is. It needs paint really bad and a serious detail on the inside. I'm happy you came with almost 75% tires.
Great Video!
Are your tires all season?
Yeah they're rated for winter too
Another great video. Did Canada separate from North America? I live in Minnesota and I don't remember have to take a boat to cross over to the continent that Canada is a part of.

No I won't. My business relies on the the 4runner being interesting. People would get bored with a stock one real quick.
