    Would make sense that the SHADO Moonbase would continue to be used, in a different capacity, when Moonbase Alpha was built. Shame there wasn't an episode of Space 1999 that just happened to use stock shots of it to strengthen that connection.

      It never would have happened in those days, other than perhaps a brief shot of something intended as an inside joke. Continuity within series tended to be pretty weak, let alone between different series from the same producers.

    I remember watching this series as a kid, which fuelled my imagination of the possibilities of living, working, and the exploration of space, something I think has somewhat dimmed in younger generations. It is interesting how I stumbled upon these "tech talks" with General (promoted finally) Straker while at the same time finding ALL of the original episodes available for streaming on ROKU. As I watch these as an older adult I admit I do chuckle at some of the screenplay, but also marvel at some of the enormously creative -ahead of their time, ideas found in the modeling and build concepts,: especially the Interceptors (my favorite). I now want to experience "Timelash" and travel back to the moonbase and perhaps spend some time with Lt. Ellis in the leisure pod...hahaha. Funny how we don't notice those kinds of things as young kids.

    A poster of Commander Straker had pride of place above my bed as a 7 year old. Gerry Anderson's series all added to the sense I had as a boy that we could rescue those in need, defeat those with evil intent, & fly to the moon if we liked. If the futures he envisaged had come to pass, the world would undoubtedly be a better place.

      Same moon, different area. Moonbase Alpha was located in a smaller crater named Plato which is why the Alphans were concerned in the episode "Last Sunset"....if enough rain had occurred, Alpha would've been at the bottom of a big lake.

      @stephenfarthing485 3 года назад

      Same area as the Sea of Tranquility on the moon. If it was retained by Alpha, as for the purpose as described. The only additional feature to it. Would be a launch/landing pad for the Eagle Transporters. To Jamie Anderson. Why not see if you can build a model of that moonbase with modified central module and the launch/landing pad alongside it ? My guess is that the Aliens that attacked Earth ceased doing so in 1990. So Shado petered out. A year later. Many of the advances were put into Alpha's design and construction. There was a civilian moonbase 50 miles from the Shado Moonbase. Perhaps that was Alpha under initial construction!

    Awkward question time:
    I'm just wondering what the source is for SHADO Moonbase being located in the Sea of Tranquility? I only ask because in the episode 'Survival', Paul Foster's map shows it is located in the Mare Imbrium, not the Sea of Tranquility. The crater Plato, where Moonbase Alpha is situated, is ALSO in the Mare Imbrium, so this would tie in to the original concepts for UFO 2 and the idea that SHADO Moonbase was expanded on and became 'Moon City'/Alpha.
