Fantastic Video, I've just been watching a few episodes of Captain Scarlet on Blu Ray and it's fair to say that Cloudbase looks better than ever in HD! Spectrum Is Green!
I'm 67 years old and I've been a 3D modeler and animator for 30 years. I plan on recreating some of these sci-fi vehicles for future animations I'd like to do. Even though the designs are outdated concepts of future air and space travel, they are still beautiful and inspiring especially to kids of my age.
Nostalgia is a beautiful. I grew up in the 60s and 70s. Thunderbirds, in my humble opinion, is the best TV series for children that has ever been produced. Its only competition for popularity was Doctor Who but for the type of program it had zero competition. I love it to bits even today. As you guys know Thunderbirds was incredibly innovative. Gerry Anderson and his team were true pioneers of many cinematic techniques.
2,500 tons is remarkably light for what is essentially an aircraft carrier! The similarly sized HMS Queen Elizabeth is 64,000 tons. Maybe it's made of balsa wood and plastic model kit parts ;-)
"This Is The Voice Of The Mysterons", classic Captain Scarlet. I grew up on Gerry Andersons shows, what amazing memories. I had both the Cptn Scarlet & Cptn Black toys, fantastic.
If I remember correctly, the Spectrum Passenger Jet is a repaint of the same prop used for Jeff's personal jet from Thunderbirds. (the one Scott and Tintin used for Christmas shopping in the final episode)
When i was a kid,[ ok i still am at heart!] built the 1/72nd scale Airfix Angel Interceptor i wanted to build cloud base, i think there was a cardboard model of it, which i had, but it was only some two feet in length, i wanted to build her full size, my dad put a stop to this and said no! It will cost too much for the balsa wood and it would be over fourteen foot long, many many years later got to build her in a 3D modelling program along with the Helicopter, yeah Captain Scarlett all time favorite show together with UFO
Cloudbase was seen moving in the episode Shadow of Fear. It hovers at 40,000 feet. I have models of Cloudbase, the Angel Interceptor, the Helicopter and the SPJ. I also have the series on DVD,. Two novels and episodes on audio tape. Peter Dynley voiced Jeff Tracy in Thunderbirds. My late Grandmother used to like Thunderbirds. I also have models of the SPV and the SPC.
I like to think they were both inspired by Jules Verne's helicopter ship in "Robur the Conqueror." It was used in the movie "Master of the World" in 1961, reminding a lot of people about it.
When Colonel White got a phone call from Captain Black (Before the unfortunate incident) did a light *go out* on his desk? 4:02 Apparently he didn't want to admit to using atomic power.
The Colonel actually had a severe cocaine problem. His stern manner was due to regularly being on a heavy comedown from the previous night. That's the real reason he was called Colonel 'White.'
Which version of the soundtrack do you have? I don't think it was on the original Silva Screen release, but the Fanderson release definitely has it and I *think* the updated Silva Screen one does too.
Question: were all the American characters in all of the Anderson shows voiced by Americans? Sorry, odd I know. I'd like a video explaining Spectrum as an organization, please
I know Ed Bishop was American and Shane Rimmer was Canadian. There were at least two other Americans who did voices from time to time. Various other characters were done by British voice actors doing American voices, although I do not know exactly who did which voice.
*It always shocked me, that Cloudbase/Skybase didn't have any weapons for defense, other than the Angels. Even as a kid, it just didn't make sense.* :O
The Skybase doesn’t seem to have any weapons, but the Cloudbase has electron ray homing anti-aircraft missile cannons, air-to-air missiles, and supersonic paralyzer cannons in the Japanese adaptation’s setting.
Of course, if made today, and it could easily be, Colonel White would have to be a black character and Captain Black a white character - which certainly could work. Captain's Scarlet and Blue would HAVE to be gay lovers.
John Culshaw's Jeff Tracy voice is really good!
(Jeff Tracy looks at his 5 very different in appearance sons assembled in front of him and puts down an empty glass) “Scott, do you remember your mother entertaining any visitors while I was away in space?”
I love Cloudbase, it's so 60s. Any plans to cover the New Captain Scarlet machines? I feel they're very worthy of further exploration.
Could be a thing!
If there ever was a um..., 'New Thunderbirds' rendered the same way, with most assets reused...

Cloudbase was one of most stylistic and ultra cool vehicles in the Anderson productions.

Let's not forget those helpful gravity-defying wires ;)
@@ACtheLegend I thought he was somewhat cagey in his attempt to explain how Cloudbase managed to float in the sky.
@@ADAPTATION7 I'm wondering how it got up in the first place! 200,000 JATO rockets?

Similar colour scheme but different model 😊

The was before the Marvel aircraft carrier shown in " Winter soldier "
The Helicarrier first appeared in a comic published in 1965, two years before Captain Scarlet.
Don't forget the Heli-Carrier featured in Sky Captain also before Marvel films.
I like to think they were both inspired by Jules Verne's helicopter ship in "Robur the Conqueror." It was used in the movie "Master of the World" in 1961, reminding a lot of people about it.
I was reminded of Cloudbase when the helicarrier in Captain America Winter Soldier was introduced.
And then crashed.
And now I have a new model to try to build!
When Colonel White got a phone call from Captain Black (Before the unfortunate incident) did a light *go out* on his desk?

It lit up Black :)
2:55 *imagine swimming in a pool only to realize its 10k+ feet above the ground and flying.*
that would be dope as hell!
Hi everyone can anybody tell me who voiced captain scarlet as he sounds like cary grant lol.cheers Gary from the UK 🇬🇧
Hi Gary, it was Francis Matthews, doing a Cary Grant impression (which is what landed him the role!) :)
Gerry clearly liked giving colonels a lot of responsibility.
Oh boy. Time to find out wether or not it was destroyed, or if the final episode really IS the final episode
had me thinking till bought boxset and rewatched...
Is it true that Jeff didn't like Colonel White because of his stern manner?

I think Cloudbase was the inspiration for the Royal Navy Flying Aircraft Carrier from Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow.
