"End Of The Road" is, perhaps, a very memorable episode of THUNDERBIRDS, not just because of the rescue, but also the plot lines that went with it! FAB!
I do enjoy and appreciate these little packages of Thunderbirds Clips and Tech Talk. Jon does a decent Jeff Tarcy. All-in-all they are a sweet treat. And long may they continue. F A B.
Built on the hull of the 1960's American toy tank Tiger Joe, commonly used as the basis for tracked vehicles by Anderson's productions. Still have mine.
When I was a small boy the Pathfinder was the non-IR vehicle that impressed me the most. I didn't give much thought to the indigenous population and wildlife being blasted out of the way with nuclear mortars and cannons...
About 25 years later, this is the kind of thing a Captain Planet villain would be rolling around in, loudly proclaiming how they were going to completely pave over the Amazon Rainforest, Because of Reasons
Great video! If you guys are planning a season four of Century 21 Tech Talk, Might I through some ideas your way? How about Colonel White or Captain Scarlet or Blue as host, and the vehicles to talk about could be: The Maximum Security Vehicle, The Terror/Mechanical Fish and Agent X20's sub from Stingray, The Moon Tractor, The Moonmobile, The Variable Geometry Rocket (VGR), The Unitron, The monorail trains from Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet, Marineville from Stingray, and Skyship One from Thunderbird Six.
I remember in the 1980s taking photos of a motorway resurfacing machine that reminded me of the pathfinder. Obviously it was smaller and without atomic power. It ground up the road surface and mixed it with fresh bitumen before relaying the surface. Pity it wasn't advanced enough to print the road markings at the same time.
Another lovely installment :b It's kinda funny that the Pathfinder is bigger on the inside than on the outside XD There's a turntable, but in the outside shot there is no way that the Explosives Tractor can fit across. Also the Explosive Tractor looks so gooddddd. "Eddy was saved and no worse for wear. Equally importantly he never saw the faces of his rescuers." Equally??? I think having to tell Eddy Houseman who is International Rescue is not equally as bad as Eddy dying XD
Generally IR prioritize secrecy over lives, being willing to kill the Hood as a last resort in Martian Invasion to stop him getting away with photographic records and waiting to the last possible moment before deciding to launch a rescue and risk detection in The Impostors.
sad that premarked asfalt isnt possible due to the heat that clearly still comes off the stuff when its laid the paint just wouldnt stick it would be so cool to have this irl
There is a machine that can strip the damaged road surface key and lay a replacement road as it travels, I looks very Gerry Anderson, it is however quite expensive.
They left out how Pathfinder makes quick work of eliminating native villagers protecting their sacred sites and environmentalists standing in the way of progress.
Funny, with all the amazing technology, of that world, and all the fantastic gadget, as well, that a simple thing, like a mask (Color coded, for each craft, of course) escapes their minds, on how to keep their anonymity . I mean, Superman just wears glasses, to disguise himself as Clark Kent!!
@@ACtheLegend There are NO hidden islands, thanks to satellites. And TB5, is not a stealthy satellite/station. If intelligence agencies wanted them known, they'd be known.
@@jerrypadilla4384 You're applying real-world 21st Century technology to the fictional Thunderbirds universe where that sort of equipment doesn't exist though, hence why their security measures seem light compared to ours. You gotta remember that by the fictional 2065 continuity, most cars haven't advanced much beyond our 1960s tech, landline phones are still common and there is no global surveillance, widespread CCTV or Internet etc.
Scott is such an impressive pilot of thunderbird 1 But fancy thunderbird 2 grapples not be strong enough That’s disappointing I thought it could do anything 👍👍
Interesting, I suppose the detail could have been owing to the close distance of the vehicle to the mountainside a proper deployment of the grapples was not possible.

You can stop worrying. Century 21 had no budget to populate the landscape with indigenous puppets.
About 25 years later, this is the kind of thing a Captain Planet villain would be rolling around in, loudly proclaiming how they were going to completely pave over the Amazon Rainforest, Because of Reasons
I had a similar thing with the crablogger, mainly because it was the strangest vehicle I saw aside from the sidewinder
..... Loved that episode as a child.
I wonder if Brains was a fan of 'String Theory'.
Just fantastic yet again guys!
Thanks to everyone involved
Always a weekly highlight for me 👏💥🚀🙏
I know that the model of the Pathfinder was repainted yellow for Atlantic Inferno, amazing Tech talk video FAB.
So Fun AND SILLY! I LOVE THIS STUFF!
so much fantastic model work - the very best
The Road Construction Pathfinder is pretty much a land battleship that lays a road. Very nice.

Sounds great
Well done Jon & all the folks at A.E for another brilliant 'Tech Talk'... Take care & stay safe guyz...
Is it odd that the Pathfinder still seems futuristic even though Thunderbirds was made in the mid 60's?

@@ACtheLegend Oof... your arguments are backed up by the series, but that is... not a great look for Jeff Tracy and IR.

So where did those spears fired by TB1 go? They vanish along with the rocks they catch.
The pathfinder looks a lot like the second half of the grab-logger 😉
190 high! Looking at the maintenance ladders and windows etc, I’d say more like 45ft!?
Never look at the ladders, you'll only get rung out. Same for staircases, they're a step in the wrong direction.
I'm guessing that there's no such thing as Greenpeace or any kind of environmental movements in the Andersonverse?
There probably are such groups. We just don’t see them.
thunderbirds + LEGO collabe PLS
They left out how Pathfinder makes quick work of eliminating native villagers protecting their sacred sites and environmentalists standing in the way of progress.
lol
In the 2065 advertising catalogue, that’s the main selling point!
How did they handle bridges?
Built by a separate specialist crew :)
”The Pathfinder is the Crablogger with a new coat of paint and some alterations…”
More likely the other way round, since the crablogger was in series 2.
"He cut off! He cut off!"
The have two on duty on the command deck, on to bring the beer and one to drink the beer.
I always wondered how TB1 managed to hover despite it not being a V.T.O.L. I guess it's because it's only a TV show.
TB1 is VTOL
