Hello, congrats for the great video. I just got the Super Retro Trio Plus from Lukie Games. It comes with a 4:3 - 16:9 switch. I have a collection of European SNES games, some of them work, some others don't because they are region locked. So the region free feature for the SNES is not extensible to European cartridges.
@@RoXolid lol, I know I keep seeing one of these with that aspect ration switch. Must have been a revised model after. Hard to keep up with these when their own site continues to show a spot where that switch is with nothing there!

My TCL tv sadly doesn't do 4:3, it only does it for 480p signals. I was hoping it would of had a switch when I saw this in my feed and was a bit disappointed.

I recently put in the clear shell for my SNES from Retro Game Restore. I also got a composite video adapter for the RAD2X Mega Drive/Sega Genesis model 2 that allows me to hook up my NES. Though I still intend to use my Hyperkin Retron 3 HD clone console for gaming for either of those platforms
I just bought this on Amazon and I feel like the NES games and sega games are fairly loose in their slots. If I just move it a bit, my games most likely will freeze or stop working in some way. Is this normal or did I get a lemon? 😅
Very cool. Although I would submit that in post, you could have manually resized your capture video so the game looked 4:3. Is the audio delay present in all the games?
@@RoXolid it likes smashed now. By manually adjusting you can restore the original appearance. I don't know. Maybe you aren't using a real video editor prior to uploading to RUclips.
@@peterharoldjanakjr2078 I'm using professional editing software. You can't change the aspect ratio without either cropping or distorting. Beyond that, it wouldn't be an accurate representation of the video output.
Will you check the compatibility of Battletoads NES with the 1st version to check if it works? I haven't been able to check my unit recently because my family is in the middle of moving. I swear it worked with my 1st revision but I don't remember for sure.
I have the older version of the Super Retro Trio (only composite) it's blue and white. It has some flickering on Genesis games. Wonder if cleaning the Genesis will help.
That's what those are really best for, as there's no lag or latency to be concerned with. You do still get some signal loss, color loss, and audio issues.
In your honest opinion.....what is the best all in one clone console? That you would recommend to someone purchasing one in 2023 with your knowledge having tested and reviewed multiple
So the Gamerz Tek Super HD2 is really good, but I don't know that they're still in business. If your TV can do 4:3 then I'd go with the Super Retro Trio 3+, if not then the Retron 3 HD or Retron 5.

The SNES player on this thing looks and sounds like balls. I bought 2 and both had the same issue. I got 7 tvs so obviously its a crap console, read the Amazon reviews a ton of people have complained about it. JUNK!
That's how the games were designed to be played. Plus, when you play in 16:9 parts of the top and bottom of the screen get cut off so you're actually seeing LESS of the game

My belief has always been. If you're just going to use an EverDrive don't even bother with a clone system. Go at the retropie, it's less expensive and you get a better overall experience
I did tests with the battletoads jp in the retrotrio hdmi and it runs without problems. it would be relevant to continue doing jp pal or ntsc tests of the games that have problems. Hope it helps
I own original Super Retro Trio 3+ and it doesn't work with NES Everdrive, so I want to know if Everdrive works with the new version. I do know the first old version of Super retro trio works with Everdrive of NES, SNES and SEGA.
I don't own one to test, sorry. My feeling is if you're going to use an Everdrive on a Clone system just bypass all the hardware and go with a Retropi. Fewer issues and much cheaper
I've had mine for a few months. Really enjoyed my purchase thus far. I do have a question though. Is there a list of games that aren't compatible with this clone console. I have TMNT for the NES and it will not work. The game is in pristine condition, but I do not have an NES to try it on.
The first turtles game? I thought it worked? I could swear it worked! Battletoads will not work, and that's really the only one I've run into. At least on the NES side, virtual racing doesn't work on the Genesis side
@@RoXolid Maybe it's just the copy I have then. I took it apart to clean and used a multimeter to to test it and everything looked and worked fine. The copy I got was so clean I almost thought it was a reproduction at first until I seen the board inside of it.
I don't disagree, the RetroTink Mini, Multiformat, and 5X are all awesome solutions, but those still require original hardware. Just the cost of the RetroTink is about the same as the cost of the SRT3+. It's all about what you value more, it's just awesome to have so many options.
No 4:3, no deal. My tv doesn't have a 4:3 option. I have always thought about getting this or the retron 3 but ultimately never do. I like the 3 in 1 and the plug and play aspect but there is always a flaw that gives me pause. I have a retrotink classic and a CRT so I guess it's more of a curiosity then a need.
Really wish they would get the audio issues fixed on clone systems. The slight color variances don't bug me but that reverse duty cycle on NES makes my ears hurt. Also the jump sound on super Mario world was off as well for SNES. Really just goes to show how excellent the sound design by nintendo was in the first place.

I have one of those super trio plus I had it for like it 2 years and the sound went out on it so I traded it to the pawn shop but now I have a all three systems separately works better
i got one of these after watching all the great reviews. but one thing i still havent tried is PAL master system games with a power base mini. i got the adapter and some ntsc games, but boy are they pricey. pal region has famously purchased a lot more sms games so even on ebay pal copies are cheaper. so the question is, will they work? btw i got the normal power base mini, not the fm one. i grew up playing those games without fm anyways. thanks!
@@RoXolid Seriously? You're going to pick at that little detail instead of demanding it be fixed? One of the big reasons to buy these clones is to use HDMI on them, so yeah, the HDMI audio output needs to get the synths correct as well.
Um, I wasn't defending the situation I was simply explaining it. At this point, none of the manufacturers are going to fix it. It's been going on for over 5 years, and at this price point it's more about finding the least offensive as they all get the audio wrong. I completely agree, if you're buying an HDMI equipped system the reason why is because you want to use HDMI. And the fact that after all this time they still can't get the audio right, it's very discouraging. It's also something I call out in every single review
@@RoXolid Actually why not make a video showing that the HDMI introduces the synthesizer mixups if that's the case? I was just skeptical because the flipped synths have been going on with NES clones since the Yobo boxes of the 2000s.
My Vizio tv doesn't do 4:3. As ridiculous as this sounds, I got a HDMI to S-Video converter and this way it will force a 4:3 picture with a better quality image via HDMI output on Sony CRT. Much better than the composite. And plus you can use your own HDMI cable and AV cables instead of those jankie ones that it comes with.
We're just got one in.... This one actually has a 4:316:9 toggle switch on the front which was a nice surprise..... Also is it normal for NES cartridges to be so hard to pull out of the system? I mean it's really difficult, i worry we'll break the pins

Well that's disappointing... I was really hoping they would have made improvements to the actual system. It's 2021 nearly 2022, having no 4:3 and the NES part having reverse duty cycles really isn't acceptable. Then there is the poor SGB audio. It is a shame because otherwise video quality looks pretty good and the game compatibility is probably good enough.
There are some things that game system doesn't do very good but at least Sonic 3 and Knuckles rings sounds right and so do the springs and the music is right on I am glad it doesn't sound like the way the AT games Genesis and handhelds sounded.

The controllers this comes with are absolute junk. Also it will not play Duck tales (nes) and Rad Racer (nes). It also does work with with a NES controller for crap. SNES the audio is a little over modulated, but genesis games run beautifully

Just got that one. How is the picture in HD on new screens vs hardware on a CRT in your opinion?
On a flat screen, the picture won't look as good and authentic as on crt, but it still looks better than using an OEM console with hdmi adapter.

The nes everdrive does not work on this newer hd version of The Super Retro Trio. But it works on the Retron 3 hd.

No, this is not emulation, this is hardware, and it is not compatible with the FDS.

why do people leave the nes in 4:3 mode on a widescreen tv when it can display 16:9 by default

The everdrive n8 pro does not work on clone systems. But Sd2snes and Mega Everdrive for the genesis do work.

The PAL & Japanese ROMs are slightly different and aren't known for having the same issues as the USA version

If you already have an SNES, you should buy a scaler like the Mini.

No 4:3, no deal. My tv doesn't have a 4:3 option. I have always thought about getting this or the retron 3 but ultimately never do. I like the 3 in 1 and the plug and play aspect but there is always a flaw that gives me pause. I have a retrotink classic and a CRT so I guess it's more of a curiosity then a need.
is this compatible with PAL region games?

Really wish they would get the audio issues fixed on clone systems. The slight color variances don't bug me but that reverse duty cycle on NES makes my ears hurt. Also the jump sound on super Mario world was off as well for SNES. Really just goes to show how excellent the sound design by nintendo was in the first place.

I have one of those super trio plus I had it for like it 2 years and the sound went out on it so I traded it to the pawn shop but now I have a all three systems separately works better

i got one of these after watching all the great reviews. but one thing i still havent tried is PAL master system games with a power base mini.
i got the adapter and some ntsc games, but boy are they pricey. pal region has famously purchased a lot more sms games so even on ebay pal copies are cheaper.
so the question is, will they work?
btw i got the normal power base mini, not the fm one. i grew up playing those games without fm anyways.

The Retro Duo got NES sound right. The original Super Retro Trio got the sound right. This updated one screws it up like a Yobo box. 😕
Becuase the issue is the HDMI output, not the composite. If you go from composite to your TV on this, the audio is fine
@@RoXolid Seriously? You're going to pick at that little detail instead of demanding it be fixed? One of the big reasons to buy these clones is to use HDMI on them, so yeah, the HDMI audio output needs to get the synths correct as well.
Um, I wasn't defending the situation I was simply explaining it. At this point, none of the manufacturers are going to fix it. It's been going on for over 5 years, and at this price point it's more about finding the least offensive as they all get the audio wrong. I completely agree, if you're buying an HDMI equipped system the reason why is because you want to use HDMI. And the fact that after all this time they still can't get the audio right, it's very discouraging. It's also something I call out in every single review

@@RoXolid Actually why not make a video showing that the HDMI introduces the synthesizer mixups if that's the case? I was just skeptical because the flipped synths have been going on with NES clones since the Yobo boxes of the 2000s.

My Vizio tv doesn't do 4:3.
As ridiculous as this sounds, I got a HDMI to S-Video converter and this way it will force a 4:3 picture with a better quality image via HDMI output on Sony CRT. Much better than the composite.
And plus you can use your own HDMI cable and AV cables instead of those jankie ones that it comes with.
We're just got one in.... This one actually has a 4:3 16:9 toggle switch on the front which was a nice surprise..... Also is it normal for NES cartridges to be so hard to pull out of the system? I mean it's really difficult, i worry we'll break the pins

I don't really have a way to measure it, but I address lag and delay specifically while playing Earthworm Jim.
Well that's disappointing... I was really hoping they would have made improvements to the actual system. It's 2021 nearly 2022, having no 4:3 and the NES part having reverse duty cycles really isn't acceptable.
Then there is the poor SGB audio.
It is a shame because otherwise video quality looks pretty good and the game compatibility is probably good enough.
Same system, new controller. It's still decent but they really haven't addressed the flaws
There are some things that game system doesn't do very good but at least Sonic 3 and Knuckles rings sounds right and so do the springs and the music is right on I am glad it doesn't sound like the way the AT games Genesis and handhelds sounded.

Thankfully the controllers are modeled after the SNES and not the NES, I hate the NES controllers.

If your TV can force 4:3 then the aspect ratio doesn't matter on the system, but the audio is off on any TV

Not really, nothing that's super noticable.
The controllers this comes with are absolute junk. Also it will not play Duck tales (nes) and Rad Racer (nes). It also does work with with a NES controller for crap. SNES the audio is a little over modulated, but genesis games run beautifully
I have not had any issues playing those exact games on my system with the stock controller

Yeah, no. Maybe $40 for just one system, but even with the flaws on the NES-side it's still a decent value
Hyperkin is a better deal for their systems. Retro Bit is still good but always seem a tad behind hyperkin
