Just a quick question, what are your opinions on how the Black Panther movies did the character justice and how they explored the world and politics of Wakanda in terms of what they’ve done so far?
The movies are my only real source of knowledge for the character as I haven’t read that many comics, so I was wondering how well they translate the comics into the MCU and its style. Plus I am working on my own Marvel universe and T’Challa is the centre of it and I want to try and make the story feel like it truly feels like a Black Panther story, as well as expand on what the character could be and the world of Wakanda as a whole.

Black Panther has some very great runs that work as good starting point for readers, but sadly they have some flaws that might take some fans way from it
Christopher Priest run is the best introduction to the character but it suffers from a bit confusing narrative and some 90's elements that are very dated, specially how Priest write some female characters like the villain Malice (her reason to turn against T'challa felt very petty)
Reginald Hudlin run, specially the first arc, works as retelling of T'challa story, with some very good actions scenes drawn by John Romita Jr, but not only it has very inconsistence with Marvel continuity but the Wakanda people are portrayed as very unlikable, arrogant and self-righteous, acting like they are morally superior to the rest of the world.
Ta-nehisi Coates does a great job exploring T'challa supporting cast and portraying Wakanda, specially it' politics aspects and religion, but might not be the type of story for fans who want to see more full action comics, with T'challa just kicking ass through the whole story. It's comic run more for people who enjoy those types of stories like Game of Throne, where the main focus is more on the character interaction and decisions and less on the action and epic adventure.

Thanks, Marcus! I've been a Marvel fan for like 30 years, but never actually read a full BP run. 😱 I'm hoping to change that with the upcoming Omnis.

I wouldn't recommend Black Panther by Priest. Unless people like annoying character telling the stories of Black Panther. Imo Ta-nehisi Coates Black Panther run is an excellent starting point for new readers. Skip John Ridley 15 issue run of Black Panther. I really didn't like it.
