Factorio any% on the Switch!!

  • Decided to do a Nintendo Switch run. I was very much not accustomed to the controls which lost a lot of time. Could also be done much faster with a smaller base - I just really wanted to the full any% build the first time. Seemed more fun. If I do another it'll be like half the size because placement speed is so limited on the Switch, a large base isn't as necessary.
    In case you've never played Factorio (or even realized it has a victory condition), the goal of the run is to launch a rocket. In any%, a set map seed is allowed, as well as free choice of map generation settings. Blueprint imports are not allowed, but blueprints can be created within the run.

    For anyone wondering how the Switch Version is: I’ve played a lot casually these past couple days since this run. The version runs really well, and the controls are mostly intuitive. Not necessarily fast, or comfortable at times, but they are easy to understand. A lot of quirks that hopefully get ironed out, but still good fun if you’re on the go!

      I guess you're under 3:15 now? My pb is 3:15:25. Good to know how likely wrecking that on a switch.

    This game is a blast on my Switch and if you push the right thumb button then you get a on screen cross arrow. Helps a ton

    Using the touch screen and the controllers should allow a vastly improved pacing for menu interaction. I only have a few minutes in portable mode though :)

      @Antipatience  Год назад +1

      Unfortunately you can't record in that mode without aftermarket switch modifications, but for casual play that's definitely a good option!
      Personally I prefer just controller cause it's a way more comfortable option (and just as fast for most menus, aside from a couple edge cases)

    @Antipatience I can't believe you completed the game on Switch w/o going into Mouse mode once. I recommend using a USB keyboard for extra hotkeys next time, the switch does have partial support for it.

      If I'm going to use a keyboard I'd just play the PC version

      @@Antipatience 🤔Not necessarily, you'd still be required to use the controller for most actions like movement because the switch requires it so you couldn't setup like you would on PC but you'd have more buttons for input🤷🏿‍♂️.

      @@kidunot89 I didn't feel hotkey limited at any point in time. It was mostly just learning the controls. (This was done no prep within a few hours of release)

    Hi there.
    Thank you for the video. I was just wondering how the performance (fps) is holding up with bigger bases and a bigger amount of automation?
    Is it 60 all the time or does it drop?
    I'm asking because it looks really solid in the video but I can't quite tell for sure.
    I'm still on the fence if I should buy Factorio on the Switch. The idea of playing the game on the couch or in bed is really tempting. 🙂
    Greetings from Germany.

      UPS was completely solid throughout thos run. FPS dropped very occasionally but not for long periods, and as far as I know FPS drops are just visual on this game as long as the UPS is stable.
      I don't think a base could be made much larger than this, especially with biters and pollution spread on (they're mostly disabled in this run). I could push this (~100 SPM) base to about 90-100 UPS by increasing gamespeed

      @@Antipatience Thank you for answering my question. That sounds quite good for chill handheld gameplay. For exessive and modded gameplay PC will remain my main go to platform.

    How are you controlling this so fast? My gosh... is there a Switch controls guide? shortcuts? How do you put things into things without opening the thing? Waaa

    • @Antipatience
      @Antipatience  Год назад +3

      There's not really a guide but you can view all the key binds (and change them) under the game settings. It helps that I play a lot on PC so I know what kind of shortcuts the game has.
      Putting things into stuff without opening was a mix of drop (ZL + DPAD down) for a single item and fast transfer (ZR + A/Y) for dropping whole/half stacks.
