The Darkness - Love Is Only a Feeling (Guitar Cover)

- This takes me back to when I first started to learn playing bass and I tried to learn most of this album. The Darkness were a big deal at the time in the UK but I think unfortunately a lot of the attention they got back then was because many thought they were a comical band. They maybe played up to it a little but I think at that time, it was very uncool to play that type of music so it was possibly the only way it could've been accepted in the mainstream. I haven't listened to this stuff in a long time and I forgot how much I really liked it. I wasn't as keen on their second album but was glad to see them make a come back and I made of cover of their track 'Open Fire' a few years ago, and I think it's the best they've ever sounded.
I'm playing most of Dan's parts and I saw on live videos he plays with a capo at the 7th fret. I didn't want to do any video edits so I play with it on until the last chorus where I briefly show the chorus rhythm before doing Justin's cool outro.
You can find my other Darkness stuff here - • The Darkness Covers
I use a Jackson Dk2 into a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi-09 into a Focusrite Scarlet into my Mac running Logic Pro X
F.A.Q. - I keep my headphones like that so they stay out the way. The cable is very long.
I have a Patreon where I upload my notation notes for all my new covers and I am going through my old ones too. But I also provide custom notation and video lessons content there or at my bwmguitarlessons@gmail.com address. Please get in touch if you want help playing the music you love. / bwm5150

I used to listen to the entire Permission to Land album every night before I went to sleep. Ive known this song by heart since 2004/2005 and you completely nailed it. Awesome awesome cover.
Every time I listen to Permission to Land it’s always the whole thing. Never just a song or two. 🤘🏽🤘🏽
It's the first thing I used to listen to in the morning back in 2003. My stereo was my alarm and came on with Black Shuck at 07:30 and play the full album. The pick slide at the end of Holding My Own ment it was time for me to get up and get ready for school. I still love that album today ✌🏼
Second that
Just the precise exact notes with the right effects, no more, no less. And what a tone! Excellent cover!
Forgot how much I love this band. Excellent buddy 🎶💖🎶
That first album is so good, brings back a lot of memories
That capo quick removal was sick
Haha thanks! That’s what the rehearsal takes were mainly for
@@bwm5150 great cover too.
DAAAAAMMMMNNNNNNNNN!!!! Subscribed! 🔥
Permission to Land is in my top 10 albums of all time. Great job with this!
Great job! The Darkness is one of my favorite hard rock bands of the past, what, 15 years or so? I really like at least half of every album they've put out with the exception of this last one. The stuff on Last of Our Kind and Pinewood Smile is some of their best, I think. They're just full of great riffs and that's so sadly missing from the current crop of rock music. These guys still have the feel of the 70s and 80s hard rock that I've always loved. I'm really glad to see you covering them!
Last of our Kind is one my favourite Darkness album and one of my favorite albums of all time. I'm always trying to spread the good word and letting people know these guys are still around and just as good as they ever were!!
@@ToneArnold I've already pre-ordered their new album "Motorheart" on their website. Getting the vinyl and the deluxe CD. Bring it on!
2 words: awesomely perfect ☺️
I liked even before the playing started🤟🏻
I love you Ben 😍💕 from Scotland amazing work as always 🎸🎧👍 your journey fan always
Awesome job. I loved this song the first time I heard it back in 2003. Can't believe it's already been 19 years since The Darkness dropped their Debut Album PERMISSION TO LAND. Time certainly flies by!
You get my like just for playing the four keyboard notes after the outro solo. Excellent cover and sound.
Haha, cheers!
haha yeah I like that too. but he missed the hip wiggle . lol
Fantastic as always. Another great version of a great song.
Grande.. bravissimo
You always put a great smile on my face with your videos man. But this time when I saw the capo I was like, you sonofab...😀 Brilliant solution to play this song on electric guitar! 👍 And what a tone! Now I have to watch this again like 10 times 😁
Thanks, Dan plays this song with a capo so I’m basically copying what he would do live.
this is Exactly what i was searching for! lead guitar opposite singer/rhythm. thanks bro! good tutorial!
Thanks! Because of the capo, I had to mostly play Dan’s parts but I was able to play some of the rhythm in the last chorus before Justin’s solo.
Wow love this one. My favourite from The Darkness.
Impeccable timing as I’ve been listening to The Darkness for the past few days. Great work as always. Wouldn’t mind more of their stuff!
Definitely been neglecting them since my first cover of Open Fire, but I think I’ll get them in the usual rotation now too. Cheers Curt!
Fantastic cover!! Great tone!! Beautiful looking Jackson! You couldn't wish for more!
Liked before a single note had been played! Knew I'd love your cover of my favourite Darkness song 😁👌🏼🤘🏼
Damnee. Had totally forgotten this tune. Great work Ben🤘🏼🥃
Great! I love this song. Greetings from Brazil.
Fantastic.
I'm not familiar with this band, but the song sounded great. As always, great note for note rendition!
the Darkness are well with checking out,a lot of people only remember them for the hits they had in the early days but recent albums have been outstanding
@@gooniemarky Its totally worth it to familiarize yourself with them:)) Their early stuff is great, like this song here. The songs Open Fire and Last of our kind from later albums are a few of my favorites. They also have Rufus Taylor ( the son of Roger Taylor from Queen) on drums.
Get familiar lol. Permission to land their first album is a good starting point
Amazing!
Ha brilliant Ben - I loved all the guitar on Permission to Land; proper rock! My favourite ballad is Holding My Own, but this is great. Time to consider that Les Paul? :-)
Maybe one day 👀🤞
Thanks for the memories, and fantastic cover
That was excellent!
Great job. That capo removal was clean.
Fantastic!! 👏 we await other works based on the darkness 😁😁
Was not expecting to hear The Darkness! Another awesome bit from ya! 💪🎸👍
Superb!
great cover. the Hawkins brothers are great. the video for this is really good too.
Solid!!!!💪👈
Some great fun riffs... love it! Cheers Ben 🍻🍻🤘
like the description and the cover was great!, darkness were crucial for bringing back great music back in early 2000's. there was over a decade without this type of music.... imagine that!?
This is awesome 👍
Nailed it and volume is blasting away and, obviously, head banging. Wow Good job Ben! :)
Best cover here!
yayyy i love this record
Love this song. Well done 👏
Lovely! That end solo is one of my favourites, it's a belter
This is absolute perfection!
This probably the best cover of this song.U covered every tiny blocks that made up this song
Very kind, thanks!!!
Nailed it bro!
Sounds amazing!
The Darkness are great, still putting out good music (maybe aside from the Pinewood Smile album) and really fun shows live.
Oh, c’mon on! The stuff off Pinewood Smile is great. All the Pretty Girls, Solid Gold, Buccaneers of Hispaniola and Southern Trains (“journey into pure despair - I just want to get somewhere - choo choo”)? Epic stuff.
@@kennymiller6633 haha I actually tried to edit my comment a bit after writing it to be kinder to PS but my phone bugged out.
It def has its moments. I like Buccaneers, and Why Don’t the Beautiful Cry? A lot. Some of them I can take or leave though. There’s not like, songs I hate but just not a collection id say I love like pretty much every other album.
wuhoo! what a cover.. absolutely on point and superb tone!
WOW..
Lovely stuff ben. Nice capo 👍🏻😁🎸
Well done!
So good!!!!
brilliant!
Superb,breath taking indeed
Great tone! 🤟👌😍
Faultless!
The way you removed the capo was so smooth and perfectly timed. Awesome cover!
Nailed it 🤙🏻
Simply brilliant
😎👌🏼 loved it
Oohh man, this is fantastic!! Congrats!
YES
Amazing cover mate, you also helped me while I was learning this song
Brutal hermano !!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Hey U did the keyboard part too. Very nice
Great.
Hell yes 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Excellent cover ! Tone was spot on
This is a very good guitar cover sorry I haven't left any comments last week we had internet problems
Magnífica interpretación saludos desde México
Brutal
I have mixed feelings on The Darkness. Their first two albums were phenomenal. But I couldn't get on with anything they released after that. Maybe it's just me but imo they lost their spark
Awesome cover though dude!
Really liked the first album, but didn’t get in to the second one. Oddly I think Open Fire is my most listened to song by them now.
I pretty much feel the same but check out Last Of Our Kind,it’s a great album
I think the new album is really good
Love that air keyboards at 3:30 same as the mv. Hahahah..
Nossa como queria tocar assim, gosto demais dos sons que vc faz, ficam perfeitos, até melhor as vezes q as bandas originais kkkk abraço amigo
03:31 🥰🙋🏻♂️
Perfect play ✊
having just seen them. This is especially appreciated.
Just became a Patreon, amazing work here
Thanks for the support! I hope you find what you’re after, if not, just let me know and I’ll direct you in the right place.
@@bwm5150 Much thanks!
Your vibrato is immaculate…jealous.
Thank you, You’re very kind! It’s something I’m always working on as I feel it’s something that can be improved.
Awesome job as always bro! Damn...capo is up there isn't it? lol.
What kind of pickups do you primarily like to use?? I’m an insanely huge Def Leppard fan and I’m always using a lot of Steve Clark’s tones and techniques, but I always play with a Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge. It’s what Phil uses and it has a insane amount of headroom for the sick Leppard tones I crave
I don’t have a preference for pickups yet. My guitars are stock, with Duncan Design ones on this Jackson, and I feel happy with the sound I get with my set up.
👍
Ben. You're a genius. I know you get this quote a bit. But you MUST give Jackson Brown's "Somebody's Baby" a listen if you haven't. It's the PERFECT candidate for Leppardization. Room for solos, and your melodic influence. Trust me brother. At least listen to it and consider it. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks, I'll give it a listen.
@@bwm5150 please do brother. I know you would kill this!!!
Unique song nevertheless, but I liiike it 🤩
Is there anything you can't play? 😍🥰
The ones I don’t upload 👀😅
almost leparized cover jejeje!!
Did the air keyboard notes, five stars.
While talking about darkness, what about covering in a darkened room:)
New camera?? Looks great.
Thanks.Been using my phone for the past year since my old camera gave out.
You're great . What is that thing on the 7th fret during the first part of the song. Sorry for the ignorance. I' m not a musician.thanks!😉
Thank you! It’s called a CAPO and it puts the guitar in a different key for open chord playing. Dan uses one live so everything I’m playing with it are parts that he plays.
Please do a “King of Wishful Thinking” cover!
😍 Last year I told my brother that I'm 32 and still single 'cause I'm waiting for a man who can play the opening riff from 'Love Is Only a Feeling'. Well... I guess you have a problem 😁
😅 Sorry, I’m taken, but I appreciate the comment.
@@bwm5150 easy, i'm not even from the UK so you're safe 😀 but i definitely love your music 😍
Could you please cover You Are the Fire by DECARLO?! That would be awesome!!
Will give it a look
How do you make that sound I can’t get the this sound pls 😊
I use a Boss Me50 for my tones. Compression, overdrive, chorus and delay.
Thx frl i appreciate
Have you double tracked this?
No, im just playing over the song
Sounds like the original.
what effects do u use sooo good
Boss Me50, cheers!
@@bwm5150 u wudnt think ud get that sound was that one of the tones on it or did u have to twig and change it much
It’s my own settings
@@bwm5150 thought so sounded 2 gud 2 be true lol
It’s not like it’s a heavy programmable unit. All the effects are there on the face, nothing hidden behind in presets etc.
What is with people doing these covers where your guitar is literally indistinguishable because the track is too loud! Program some drums or something! Like come on!
Haha, I like playing along with the track so that I have to stay accurate to it, but I admit, sometimes the balance could be better. If you were to compare this to the original my guitar will be more noticeable.
Good guitar playing tho not my kind of music, thx
