@@TheApsodist Haha, if you can call it playing. Greeny gave that thing away ...Hammett had to shell out $2 million for his inept fingers to even get the right to touch the Greenburst, not fit to shine Pete's shoes.
Peter Green was my favorite guitarist of all time from when i was growing up as a kid in the sixties even before my other great favorite Hendrix . My elder brother used to play Fleetwood macs firs Lp and i listened and i was hooked for life. Despite his incredible talent one of the things that also stuck with me was when he gave away all his royalties for the poorer people of the world similar to Cat Stevens. While many questioned this even as a young kid i thought it was a great thing to do. Think about others not just yourself. RIP Peter Greenbaum . I've got a good mind to give up living but that Black magic woman told me in a worried dream that the Albatross will fly again. Oh well ! RIP
Me and Pete had a mutual friend who looked after him, and jammed with, in later years. We often talked how pete was doing. His later years were settled and peaceful and surrounded by love on Canvey Island. A wonderful place to grow old.
Dear Christo, I am very greatful for your comment. It gives me peace to hear that he spent bis last years in a beautiful landscape surrounded by good friends. And jamming with your friend. I will always love his early songs. Greetings from Germany.
That's too bad to hear, unfortunately we don't live forever. We only live on by what we leave. Thank you Peter Green for all that you gave...and now left for us to enjoy. Rest In Peace. Thank You John, sad to hear, but thankful to know. Fleetwood Mack with Lindsay and Stevie is the version I know best because it was the version I grew up with, but every version of Fleetwood was incredible. There's just not many musicians that calibre these days nor do they have longevity like these musicians have had. Now it seems it's all about money and fame, and when they get the money they only produce music and albums (Cd's) for about 5 years and then disappear. I think that's one of the biggest reasons why the music I grew up with is so important to me. I'll be 49 this year and have in this last few months started listening to music I haven't listened to much in 30 years. I'm tired of all the cookie cutter music that's produced and released now. It all sounds exactly the same, even down to the vocals. It's all produced digitally, and noone truly seems to know how to sing and control their vocals anymore, it's all Autotune and I hate it. It really sucks hearing about the musicians I grew up listening to have passed, but what sucks much more is that they are gone and won't play again. Sadly another guitarist gone out of tune...RIP Peter Keep Safe All, Peace, Happiness, Love and Laughter, Acceptance For All, -Matt
About 10 years ago a blind friend of mine wrote to Peter Green telling him he loved his early work and asking what he was working on. To his utter amazement (and mine ) he got a reply. It said he was working with a close friend in a band called the Splinter Group. He included 3 cds also. They contained classic Peter Green blues. I copied the cds
That Rolling stone list is utter bullshit mate. Robert Johnson at 71?? Ridiculous. Rory Gallagher at 57??? That's totally ridiculous too. He was incredible. John Campbell isn't even on the list!! He was a great guitarist. Really brilliant. Whoever created that list was stupid.
Before his acid meltdown in late 1970, Peter Green was the best electric blues/rock player there was. I say this having seen Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck BB, Albert, Freddy, Albert Collins, Mike Bloomfield......about everyone. Fleetwood Mac, Fillmore 1969, tops the list for me.
Introduced to him by Dinky Dawson in 1999 at the Roxy in Boston he was my favorite blues guitarist of all time he"s now with the Supernatural RIP Peter Green
We are losing too many icons of music. Peter was such a tasteful player with an absolute wonderful sound and style. RIP Peter and thank you for all you shared with us. You will be missed.
I was a member of JB's from the mid 1970's . But I had no idea Peter played there. I assume that was the club near the Zoo not the King street site that I went too. By 2001 I had stopped going to JB's but I would have gone for Peter Green (rip)
robert Ward ,JB's surely one of the best live music venues in the uk. I was lucky enough to be a regular visitor to the club for many of its years and also lucky enough to stand on the hallowed stage and play guitar in my own blues band. One of the best musicians I have ever seen on a stage anywhere was at this club. He was a great singer, an astonishing blues guitarist (one of our most underrated) And also a really nice man. His name ? The late great Steve Marriott, with his band "Packet of three". Good times. Thanks for reminding me of the place. Sadly I missed peter Greens appearance.
RIP MY GREAT MENTOR. To me the greatest Guitarist of all time so underrated to this day. Couple this with his extraordinary vocals , A GREAT TALENT.Amen
Peter Green will always be my number one source of musical inspiration. What a talent, and what a gift to us. Rest in peace, dear Peter. And thank you.
I met Peter in 1969 at the Old Boston T Party on Berkley St in Boston. My brother Stanley and I went to almost every show at that club. We saw Led Zeppelin, BB King, Buddy Guy Jeff Beck and on and on . One of the best bands I ever saw there was Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green. Peters tone and phrasing was so tasteful. It was the first time I ever heard a Sunburst Les Paul and in fact I went out the very next day and bought one, but that's a different story. When Fleetwood Mac finished their set, we were walking through the club and Peter walked by us. My brother Stan, said to him, " my brother has a Les Paul too. ( I actually had a 52 Gold top at that time). Peter turned to us and said hey why don't you guys come to our hotel. So we followed Peter and ended up with a few other people in his room. We talked music and guitars and through that we had a connection. Fleetwood Mac played in Boston a bunch of times and every time they came I would hang out with Peter. One time Peter and I went to see BB King and Peter ended up jamming with BB. We were back stage and BB turned to me and said, " no one plays BB King style as authentically as Peter except for BB himself. I believe Peter was one of his favorite guitarists. Another time I was standing in the audience watching Fleetwood Mac and standing next to me was Carlos Santana. Carlos was a huge fan of Peters and that might have been the moment he heard Black Magic Woman. I like to think so anyway. After Peter quit Fleetwood Mac, I called him in London and asked him if he wanted to come to Maine and jam with my band. My bandmates at that time were Frank Welch, Danny Aiello, and Richard Ponte. We all lived together in a house in the woods in South Berwick Maine. I knew it was a long shot asking Peter to come over but he surprised me and said yes. A few weeks later I drove to Boston and picked Peter, his suitcase, his Sunburst Les Paul and his Fender six string Bass, up at Boston Logan Airport and drove him up to Maine. My memory is vague at how long he stayed with us but it might have been a month. I do remember a few days after he came that we found out that Jimi Hendrix died. So that would put him there on September 18, 1970. I remember hearing this news really stunned him as he said he was just hanging out with Jimi a few days before in London. Basically we would get up every day and Jam. We did all go to Boston and play a gig at the newer Boston T Party. I actually have two tapes of Peter Jamming with us, one from the house in Maine and one from that Gig at the T Party. I have never played them for anyone. Peter had a female friend who was going to Goddard College in Vermont and he eventually left Maine and headed up there. I Was very lucky to spend time with him. He was a very thoughtful, sweet, funny and open person. I can see him now twisting his mustache as he was contemplating life sitting on the stoop of that house in Maine. Actually I remember one morning he was sitting on that stoop with his Les Paul jamming with the birds. Peter's guitar playing did not reply on tricks or fancy licks or runs. Every note he played was connected to his heart. It was economical, soulful, authentic and he played with dynamics and fire. But then he could play so sweet as in Albatross. Basically his playing was him and that is a rare find in a musician. what you hear is who he was. I will miss him but am thankful that I got to know him. RIP Peter Andrew Kastner
I saw that Polly Samson, David Gilmour's wife, tweeted earlier that when she suffered from insomnia a few years back, David would quietly strum Albatross to her to lull her to sleep. It's no surprise that Peter and David share their incredible tonality and melodic soloing seeing that The Shadows and Hank Marvin were so influential to both.
Hank Marvin, Mr. Influence.....Frampton, Knopfler, Gilmour, Green and many others picked up a guitar after hearing Hank Marvin, the first UK Guitar Hero.
At 14 years old, my first concert of my life, 1973 Long Beach, CA, open Rory Gallagher, 2nd billing, Fleetwood Mac, close Deep Purple. Etched in my mind forever. RIP
One of my first concerts also but I saw them in San Diego at the sports arena. Rory Gallagher was incredible as were all the rest. I think tickets were Five bucks
@@denises8956 I saw Rory four times and Peter Greens Splinter group several times - great guitarists who could do it live. Both sadly missed by me and nobody comes comes close to replacing them in my opinion.
The first concert I ever went to was Savoy Brown with Fleetwood Mac as the warm up band. 1970 at the Hollywood Palladium. That concert changed my life and was my entree to the blues. Peter Green blew my 15 year old mind with the tastiest guitar work I'd ever seen played. There are a handful of Peter Green songs that, like BB King said about Green, send a chill up my spine. RIP Peter, you are a legend.
My musical roots and passion is heavy metal, however when I was 16 my brother bought me the English Rose album and my eyes were opened to blues. Ever since then I’ve had a massive appreciation for Peter Green. Wonderful music. May he rest in peace.
Love Peter Green. Like many Fleetwood Mac fans discovered him after the fact. His End of the Game jams are great mood pieces in my opinion. It’s out there but I love it anyway. Take care and be safe everyone.
I know that these "lists" of greatest this or that mean very little but when Rolling Stone list Peter Green at no. 57 of the best ever guitar players you do have to wonder what planet these people are on.
It's probably because the Greens., Srv, EC, Moore were the guys that stimulated and progressed others to play. But then they also had their idols from the 1920's from New Orleans with their budget Acoustics playing on their patios. 😂
When Peter Green replaced Eric Clapton in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, graffiti in the UK proclaimed that 'Peter Green is God'. His naturally beautiful, nuanced playing showed that the graffiti was spot on. Whenever his music is playing, Peter Green will still be wonderfully alive. His music, and Peter, will never die.
Heartbreaking news. So many greats leaving us. Wished you could have gotten the chance to interview him. I immediately fell in love with the original Mac when I discovered their music and all of the incarnations that came after. Peter was one of a kind. I could hear his sweet soul in his voice and his playing especially on "Man of The World." May he rest in peace. ❤️
I myself have recently gone back and taken a listen to early Fleetwood Mac during the Peter Green era. Much different band in those days. Great music. RIP Peter Green.
Always been my absolute favourite guitarist. His music is what inspired me to play all those years ago when I was 7 years old. His solos were always so emotional. An absolute legend. His music and legacy will live forever. R.I.P Peter Green.
Another of the greats gone. Sometimes words are not enough. Thanks Peter for the years of enjoyment you've given me and many others, and hopefully continue to do so for a long while yet. Rest easy my man. You made this guys life just that little bit better ❤️🎸
A few.months ago Mick Fleetwood held a concert in his name that soon will be released. Also, this week, it was announced that all the first 7 FM albums will be re released
The box will start with 1969’s ‘Then Play On’ which is the only one to feature Green. He left in Spring 1970. I wish they had included the FM albums from 1968-1969 as well. But I love ALL these albums - Then Play On, Kiln House, Future Games, Bare Trees, Penguin, Mystery To Me, Heroes Are Hard To Find.....
My all time fav guitar tone and phrasing is Peter and David G. I first heard him with Mayall...was immediately hooked. Mac was actually 5 dif bands..which is amazing really because each version was excellent musically and the talent never waned as it morphed each time. My all time fav PG album is his double Splinter Group. Thats a masterpiece. I play it between sets at my gigs. God bless you Pete.
I’m lucky that I saw him in 99 and about 7 years later! My favorite blues player of all time! He bridged the gap between Blues Rock and Progressive! May he Rest In Peace. Thank you for your talents, you changed out landscape of what we as guitarists do!

I saw the Original Fleetwood Mac lineup with Peter at the Birmingham Pub in Michigan in the late 60's. They were truly transcendental. Those three guitar players meshed so good. God rest you Peter you were always a favorite.
The great & almost forgotten Peter Green, you will be missed by those who appreciate your soulful blues and ability. BB King once admitted he was an admirer of his, which is as high a compliment a guitarist can ever get...
As a blues guitarist, I can say that out of all those great players out there that I've learned from, I learned the most about how to play with pure emotion from Mr. Green. Hands down.
Another hero gone. I still remember trying to learn " need your love so bad" when I was thirteen. This man was class. R.I.P my friend, you will always be a legend.
My father was a bluesman to the core and among his collection of records & 8-tracks was the 'Blues Jam In Chicago Volume 2' album in both formats; both this and '...Volume 1' were recorded at the Chess Studio in January 1969. In hindsight, my top 3 Les Paul players of my 70s childhood puts him at #1 (Freddie King and Peter Frampton are 2 & 3); the nasal tone of that '59 Standard is as magical as it gets... R.I.P. Mr. Green.
Until sometime within the past year or so, I had never even HEARD of Peter Green, isn't that amazing since I've been a FM fan since the Lindsay Buckingham era. But, this past year I discovered Peter Green on RUclips and was blown away at the mood he was able to put me in, especially after getting a nice buzz on like every evening it was "Man of the World" and other of Green's famous songs and me getting down. Glad I was able to find him before he passed since it's nicer to have memories of people whether you knew them or not personally as alive vs. dead. Speaking of which. it's actually amazing that he lived as long as he did with his psychotic issues that were exacerbated by taking waaay too much acid and other hallucinogens that pushed him off the edge. I've seen this happen in my personal life, where people just 'don't come back.' I don't mean to cast any aspersions, but I'm wondering if he really did die of 'natural causes,' or if the demons finally got to him and he 'finally found a way out.' Either way, still sucks but glad I found him before he died.
BB King once said: "Peter had the sweetest tone I ever heard. He was the only one that gave me the cold sweats." What a wonderful comment from a fellow great bluesman. Pete could say more with three sweet notes than many could say with thirty. Rest in peace, Pete. You will always be remembered with great love and respect.

When Peter played that 1959 Les Paul , man what a TONE .They were a perfect match for each other, I just wish he could of gotten it back some how. RIP Albatross.......
I believe Kirk Hammett has it. 2 million bucks!!! Im sorry but that guitar in Hammetts hands?? Nah!! Probably has it in a vault anyway. Never to be played again???
@@jcripp7974 he plays it in concerts. That's enough. It's being played again
@@TheApsodist Haha, if you can call it playing. Greeny gave that thing away ...Hammett had to shell out $2 million for his inept fingers to even get the right to touch the Greenburst, not fit to shine Pete's shoes.
Gary Moore played the shit out of it for years, he bought it from Peter Green for 150 sterling.
Thanks for the history lesson. I had no idea. 🎸👍
Thank you Sir , I really appreciate. God bless you
Dear Christo, I am very greatful for your comment. It gives me peace to hear that he spent bis last years in a beautiful landscape surrounded by good friends. And jamming with your friend. I will always love his early songs. Greetings from Germany.
Thanks for posting, it made me feel a little better.
Losing Phil Ochs really hurt, likewise, Peter's passing.
Sadly another guitarist gone out of tune...RIP Peter
Keep Safe All,
Peace, Happiness, Love and Laughter,
Acceptance For All,

PETER GREEN R.I.P.✨🙏🏻✨
Great guitarman/bluesman!!!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
About 10 years ago a blind friend of mine wrote to Peter Green telling him he loved his early work and asking what he was working on. To his utter amazement (and mine ) he got a reply. It said he was working with a close friend in a band called the Splinter Group. He included 3 cds also. They contained classic Peter Green blues. I copied the cds
Splinter group finished in 2003
Thanks for the music. Saw the original Fleetwood Mac late sixties. Saw Peter Green Splinter Group in Llandudno. Great guitarist. R.I.P Peter Green. 😰
58th on Rolling Stone's list. As usual they're wrong. I'd put him in the top 5.
I, myself won't rate guitarists or keys, drums, etc....too much diversity/style to consider.
Top 5 for sure .
A chart that was probably littered with poodle haired guitar gladiators who value speed over soul.
Agreed
He could hypnotize an entire audience with just one note...RIP great one...
Another wonderful musician has passed . Another truly wonderful talent gone too soon. RIP Peter.
R.I.P. Peter. Tone like no other and immeasurable talent. Missed already.
His playing was sublime... He was one of the reasons I picked up a guitar.
*_My grandpa loved Peter he has lots of Fleetwood Mac albums. A sad day for sure ..._*
Before his acid meltdown in late 1970, Peter Green was the best electric blues/rock player there was. I say this having seen Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck BB, Albert, Freddy, Albert Collins, Mike Bloomfield......about everyone. Fleetwood Mac, Fillmore 1969, tops the list for me.
and Gary Moore ?
Most of his mojo back in 2010, have a listen to his playing on this video I took: ruclips.net/video/ip1-Nhongjw/видео.html
Had to cry today. We lost one of the good ones. Thanks for the scorchingly beautiful music you left us, Peter.
I saw him in concert 2001 at JBs in Dudley England he truly was brilliant RIP
I was a member of JB's from the mid 1970's . But I had no idea Peter played there. I assume that was the club near the Zoo not the King street site that I went too. By 2001 I had stopped going to JB's but I would have gone for Peter Green (rip)
@@keithbate9405 wow..spent some time in there, pity i missed that one..such a talent..
robert Ward ,JB's surely one of the best live music venues in the uk. I was lucky enough to be a regular visitor to the club for many of its years and also lucky enough to stand on the hallowed stage and play guitar in my own blues band.
One of the best musicians I have ever seen on a stage anywhere was at this club.
He was a great singer, an astonishing blues guitarist (one of our most underrated)
And also a really nice man.
R.I.P Peter Green. A true legend. Go fly with your Albatross.
This hit me like a sledgehammer!!😢😢 RIP Peter Green. Great musician and humble man.💙
Peter Green will always be my number one source of musical inspiration.
RIP Peter

Lovely comment. Well said.
R.I.P Peter. Thanks for the music.
What a killer line up. I’m jealous you saw Rory !!!
@@denises8956 I saw Rory four times and Peter Greens Splinter group several times - great guitarists who could do it live. Both sadly missed by me and nobody comes comes close to replacing them in my opinion.
Glad to hear he passed away peacefully in his sleep. RIP Peter Green and thanks for the great music
So humble and social minded. But now - the albatross's landed - we never forget what you gave us.
Such a gentle guitar play. 'Then play on'...
R.I.P. Pete To me one of the greatest ever guitarists and my favourite.
His sound just reached right in my like no other. Totally unique talent and communicated on a deep soul level. R.I.P. Mr..Green.
So sad Peter Green was Fleetwood Mac the best blues singer and player😥😢♥️♥️♥️🌹🌷🥀
Rest in peace Peter. You were a brilliant musician and song writer. It's a sad place without you, god bless.
loved Peter Green. Then Play On is a classic rock album in any collection
Oh Well Part 1 & Part 2 have been my most favorite tunes ever
I cant help about the shape im in i cant sing, i aint pretty and my legs are thin.
Just backing down on the time coast. That was my favorite too.
So sorry to hear about about Peter Green. May he Rest In Peace. One of my favorite bands.
My musical roots and passion is heavy metal, however when I was 16 my brother bought me the English Rose album and my eyes were opened to blues. Ever since then I’ve had a massive appreciation for Peter Green. Wonderful music. May he rest in peace.
A man with that rare spark of genius who has left wonderful music that will continue to bless the world for centuries to come.
Then Play On Peter..then play on..
R.I.P Peter Green - Albatross 🤩 music that will remembered, always 💛
One of the most underrated, under appreciated guitarists of all time. RIP.
Peter has been a huge influence on my guitar playing. “Then Play On” will always remain a masterpiece in my eyes. Rest In Peace Master.
the most influential musician for my generation rip.
Very sad. The best guitarist ever; beautiful, sweet, clear, crisp notes and a wonderful singer also.
Well said and very true.
My guitar hero. Gone. Man, this one hurts.
I myself have recently gone back and taken a listen to early Fleetwood Mac during the Peter Green era. Much different band in those days. Great music. RIP Peter Green.
RIP Peter. Such a soulful man and great player.
I met Peter in Cleveland OH . Live in Chicago is Awesome. My favorite white Bluesman RIP !
Always been my absolute favourite guitarist. His music is what inspired me to play all those years ago when I was 7 years old. His solos were always so emotional. An absolute legend. His music and legacy will live forever. R.I.P Peter Green.
So much amazing music from a legend, thank you Peter.
So many heartfelt words, nothing but praise for the great Peter Green. My mentor, Mr Wonderful Man of the World.
Another of the greats gone. Sometimes words are not enough. Thanks Peter for the years of enjoyment you've given me and many others, and hopefully continue to do so for a long while yet. Rest easy my man. You made this guys life just that little bit better ❤️🎸
RIP Peter.Oh Well what a fantastic song so far ahead of its time.
R.I.P Peter Green, you were one of the really great musicians and still one of my really great favorites with Fletwood Mac
Then Play On, album. Man Of The World, single.
Peter was an equally talented and tortured soul.
Thats a great album i have it and have listened to it alot one sunny day is also a great track from it i think danny kirwin sang on that song.
A few.months ago Mick Fleetwood held a concert in his name that soon will be released. Also, this week, it was announced that all the first 7 FM albums will be re released
Indeed. I’ve watched all songs here. None of the guitar players came close to what he did. He was like no other.
@@arcfontis don't forget "English Rose". Great album!!!
RIP Peter Green....Fool No More will always be my favourite blues song with such a perfect harmony played by one the most talented guitarist.
True legend nobody can play his style RIP Peter hope you find peace
The best guitarist of the world, amazing singer and composer Black Magic Woman, The Green Manalishi, Albatross, Oh Well, Man Of the World, Need Your Love So Bad, Hiding In Shadows, Greeny, Rattle Snake Shake, Jumping At Shadows best performance, I Love Another Woman, Like Crying, Sugar Mama, Jam In Chicago, When The Sun Goes Down, Feeling Good, The Supernatural, Slabo Day, Mary Go Round, If You Let Me Love You, A Fool No More 💕 and many more.😥 a complete artist Rip the king of blues 🙏 #happybirthdaypetergreen
I saw the Original Fleetwood Mac lineup with Peter at the Birmingham Pub in Michigan in the late 60's. They were truly transcendental. Those three guitar players meshed so good. God rest you Peter you were always a favorite.
Another piece of influencer music history is gone.
All rock stars die in their 70's... Such a loss and so sad... RIP love, power and music... 💔
True, sad !
Green. Hands down.
Peter Green WAS Fleetwood Mac, never the same band without Peter . . . RIP !!!
R.I.P. Mr. Green.
Peter Green will live on forever in his music...what an amazing song writer and performer...he is the rock ...that knocks you right out...
Peter truly was a man of the world. RIP. awesome songwriter
Thank you. Peter Green was Fleetwood Mack .All my Heroes are almost gone. Save a few old Blues men.. Rest in Peace....
I saw Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac in London in 1968, I was 17 and it blew me away. RIP Peter, enjoy the ride.
Hello John --- I grew up with Peter Green from the start, his music back in the day was sublime to a young man like me.In my eyes his bluesy rock guitar was THE BEST there was no one better at that time. His Man of the world is a dream track as is I need your love so bad. I for one will remember those days with great fondness thanks to the great PETER GREEN.
Impeccable phrasing, good taste, a guitar player’s guitar player, RIP PG.
