The RV is a great unit and you guys made some great tones here! I think the RV doesn't get any love because it's not as "plug and play" as the Big Sky. But if you take the time to dive into it, the RV can do anything!
That's the type of feeling I'm having right now. I feel like the rv-500 isn't wet enough and trying to get it at the right mix etc.. However when I plug into my bigsky and just use the mix knob it's great! But I'm going to keep working at the rv-500.
@@BrockDavisson my effect levels is usually between 70 and 90 depending on what I’m going for. I remember starting off with it and having to turn it up a lot more than I expected. Good luck man!
@@averagemike7554 I found I definitely like it better in a/b mode more. Having both going at once seems to sound better and get closer to bigsky sounds for some reason. However 10 seconds trail is lame... they need to update that and let the reverb linger much longer! But still learning and enjoying it as a different flavor to my stuff!
@@averagemike7554 Loving it more now. Found out that if you set the delay on each reverb to the right settings and right level, it helps carries the reverb and suddenly what used to be 10 seconds of reverb tail now leads to 30 seconds or more based on delay feedback etc...
I’ve had an RV-500 pedal for over a year now and I learned SO MUCH from this video. I had no idea verbs could carry over to the next patch. I also never thought about going down an octave with shimmer. That could replace my POG. And who would’ve thought a short decay would work well for ambient. Thank you for this great video. 🙏🏽
Braaaadddd! Love the 2:20 Colony House jam in there. My current fave band for miles. Rock on in Jesus’ name, my guys. 😄 I’ve had an RV500 collecting dust on my packed up board for a few years now - this walkthrough is an awesome reminder of how capable it is and inspires me to get back tinkering and shredding! 🙌🏾
I got an RV-500 a couple of weeks ago. I love some of the sounds, and you guys did a great job dialing in these verbs, it’s a great pedal, with some awesome features like warp and twist. Downsides, 1)it takes a while to dial it in, 2) if you are using it in dual mode no spillover, and it cuts your presets down to 33, 3) try as I might I can’t get the midi clock to sync on the space echo, I’ve updated, reset, it shows the time change but the sound stays the same, 4) the community is fairly gone for this pedal and I don’t think Boss is doing much with it either, no updates. 4) the shimmer is usable if you take most of the shimmer out, shimmer and reverse are very hard to get good sounds out of. This is a pedal with great potential that Boss has not really shown any love to. You guys do a great job and God bless you.
That's typical boss fashion. Release something and barely give it another look after it's out. They really need to up their game and get on board with putting out firmware once or twice a year like line 6 helix and other companies... but then again strymon hasn't updated the trifecta much either.
I will take Bradfords pick for $2,000! All kidding aside, thanks for taking the time to dive into this pedal. I have it on my board and it won’t be leaving anytime soon!
One of my biggest regrets is selling my 500 series pedals. I had all 3 and traded them for an HX stomp because we stopped using Amps at church and we’re going direct.
When are you guys going to review the Nightsky!? I know it was made for like Synths and stuff but man, you can get some pretty nice Ambient tones out of it for guitar and Keyboards!
Unrelated question to the video ! But I’ve recently been playing again for church’s worship team and I’ve been using the Line 6 HX Effects as my little gig. Though I’ve wondering on upgrading to the Line 6 Pog Go. Any advice on what’s best?
What do you use to power the rv 500? I want one but i noticed it says it must be powered by the original power supply in the manual and on the pedal itself so that has me worrying. Does it work with other power supplies?
Boss always says that so if you use another power supply they are not on the hook if you fry it. It works with a standard power supply that can provide enough mA, I think it's 300 or 350mA. I use one of my 500mA outputs.
Okay seriously what is the song you’re playing for sample 3 at 2:38(ish). I recognize the song and have been searching my playlists for it since the video was posted. Help me put this to rest!
Why do so many guitarists have a volume pedal at the beginning of the chain? Only advantage I see is having the whammy ready to go, which is a little tricky if you're using the volume pot to swell. Always wondered why and here I am asking lol
It generally isn't actually at the beginning (even if it looks like it). Generally people like it after drives and before effects. But depends on how people like doing swells and such.
I think my favorite parts of this video (besides the glorious r’vurb) is…
Bradford throwing shade at 19:23, and..
The shenanigans starting at 22:11

Nice to see the RV-500 get some well-deserved love after all these years... Biggest bang for the buck in reverb pedals, IMO...

Bradford with The Colony House riff warmed my heart
I bought one of these about 5 years ago. It's a little bit more work to hone it than most other reverbs, but when you do, it sounds incredible.

Great Ambient Sounds! I hope you guys can get a hold of the Boss GX-100. So more people use it for Worship. Getting my Gx-100 next month

Never thought I'd hear some Colony House on the Worship Tutorials. Great sounds.
I mean, their Steven Curtis Chapman’s sons 🙃 (two of them at least ha)
2:26 nice scott mills impression, my respect for you has doubled 👊🏻
Haha! Was on the fly and from memory so it wasn’t the exact riff but it was close! Thanks 😊
The haunted hall sounds awesome. I could use that every Sunday
Should totally get some bigsky presets going! I’d buy them from yall!
Lol
I totally agree Timeline & Bigsky would be 🔥☝️
@@Duesy_Sam that’s what I am saying man! I bet they would 🔥
Thanks very much great tutorial and amazing tones!
Man I miss my RV/DD 500s!!!!
Thought I was buying a BigSky, change of plans lol
What would you prefer this pedal or the even tide black hole as an do everything reverb?
Yessir!!
Great! 👍 Very useful for Worship praise
Good stuff- thanks guys!
Does patch cables look tight, What brand do you folks use? Thanks in advance
I could envision pairing haunted hall with terra echo from the dd-500 pack to great effect.

Did you use the mangledverb of the H9 for your demos in this video? I'm lookung for this type of sound.
Can u please do as it is in heaven by hillsong there is literally not one cover out there ave I want to learn how to play the song
I see you playing colony house in there, Bradford 😶😶

dying to know what song Bradford is not gonna play at 16:13
Ha! Slow Dancing in a Burning Room
I've always wanted to know! What song is that you're playing in sound sample 5?? I've heard the song before but I cant remember the name!
It's 'Praises (Be Lifted Up)' by Bethel

How is this 46 minutes ago???!!!! lol

Gotta shave four seconds off that intro time so 2:20 can start playing at 2:20

To be honest I don't think the sounds you guys made are nice at all, the overall mix is terrible this time guys. Sorry.
