Gotta say last few years Boss has released some very nice products, good to see a great brand keeps on getting better and better. Fantastic review on the RV 500
Had you watched his series on the bigSky that probably would have sold you on it. lol I'll take a bigSky over the RV-500, but I'll also take the MD-500 over the Mobius.
RABEA!!!! You could play through a cardboard box and it would sound immense!!!!!! How your lead fills melt into ethereal chords and the feels are just beautiful!
It stands completely alone in total, I mean TOTAL, MIDI implementation. I know that’s not of interest to most, but just wanted to mention it. Many others claim extensive implementation, but they are being dishonest. I’ve researched them all. I like to ‘pedal’ my reverb, so that a single program can go from dead dry through a granular short ambience all the way to a long, wobbling, huge space just with an expression pedal. This requires mapping numerous parameters with different scales and this is the only reverb stomp I have found that permits that. It’s time consuming to program, but ultra-friendly to use in performance.
Nice, but I thing we need a RV200 now ! More compact, less complex, a little more affordable. Do you think Boss could do that ? A reverb in the 200 series ? I'd buy it !!
After watching your videos on the Boss 500 series pedals, I bought all three. I was a straight analog kind of guy until I heard the sound of 96K sampling. Thanks for showing some of the possible things you can do with high quality digital gear.
it sounds to me that rabea could play through any gear and it would sound good... and i mean that his tone is ALWAYS better than anything that others put out from the same products... monster player i must say... very admirable character
just got mine for use with synthesizers and it is mind blowing, ive owned a strymon and I thought that was the end game but this pedal is just so customisable
could you do a review on the TC Electronic Hall of fame 2 Reverb too ? Just got that one and would love to see how you could make that baby sound ! Your playing is always top notch bro.
I have this unit and it is impressive even today. I usually use it if I want to carve out and detailed ambient sounds at home. An excellent reverb but you need to tweak your patches. For a gig I usually use the ol’ RV-6 for ease of use.
the main advantage of this pedal above most digital effects units is the 32 bit digital audio architecture. its a quantum leap forward in tonal quality compared to 24 bit.
Lotta players do videos like this and use it to show how fast they riff. You my friend play less notes but with a lot more soul like David Gilmor, excellent!
You really know how to do informative demos. Enjoyed your style of delivery and appropriate playing style for the parameters. Found your channel by accident, subscribed right away. Oh, and you don't come across as pretentious, totally refreshing. Being a reverb nut I'm really flipped out over this pedal. Thanks !
thought I was set with my Walrus Audio descent; oh how wrong I was! Now that I've got a DD-500 I'm utterly sold on the RV, Boss' sound is second to none!
I'm extremely impressed with your reviews. Your knowledgeable and professional... I just bought one of these pedals and I very much appreciate your review. . Thanx Brother!
great detailed demo ...thank you. so much options which is great and the menu option allows minimized footprint...just not a big fan of menu diving. But considering the price wow!! can't comment on comparison to reverb competition. Looking forward to Boss vs Strymon demo vid. Thank you for the demo.
Owned the Big Sky from the time it was released till about a year ago. Never adjusted a single parameter the entire time (never needed to, the factory pres were so comprehensive -- though over time this began to feel like a limitation). Had a Strymon Flint after that and loved it (especially the '70s setting) but sold it on a whim to "upgrade" to the SA Ventris. That hung around for a few weeks but we never bonded and I was happy to see it go (amazing hall setting though!). Now it's the RV500 all the way and I feel like it's a keeper. Diving in and messing with the controls is a blast and can be really rewarding. Adding delay to the mix with all the tweaking options it brings to bear (EQ, modulation) really takes it to the next level. The hold and freeze options are an inspired addition. A true ambient machine. Definitely the most fun I've had with a reverb pedal to date!
I am new here, and I know this pedal has been out for a while...I have all the strymon on a board for my small studio room. But....I just purchased 2 dd 200 pedals for a smaller go board that are absolutely fabulous! I was looking for a different reverb with quality and I watched this video and I am sure this is the reverb I want! Great job on the video! And I like your neon light guitar in the background!🙂 I want one! You play very tastefully too! In Boston Mass. we would call you....wicked pissah! 😎 🍻
Missed this one. Just pointed my nephew to this vid because he has his heart set on a Big Sky, but I think these are better value and right up there. Brighton? I went there once. All I remember was I got a stick of rock and there was a big cargo ship washed up on the beach. Maggie was P.M. That's the other thing I remember about Brighton from back then. They missed.
P.S. Is that a mexi Strat? My Mexi one is the same model and colour if so. I really like the feel of the neck on it. I thought I would have to spend a lot more to get a decent playing Strat. I usually do not get on with Strats being a Les Paul player, but I took to this one instantly.
Man you are guitar god Excellent excellent review you've completely sold it to me. Was gunna get Big Sky but after listening to your review I'm getting this Thank you Peace
Wonder if this is better than the strymon big sky. Also, would be cool if you could do a video showing you how you film/record your gear demos. I want to get into doing demos as I have tons of gear, but dont have the knowledge to start filming and recording demos.
Higher processor than strymon, built in delay, more advanced routing. Looks to me to be a much better option than the BigSky plus it's waaaaay cheaper.
More advanced routing is probably the biggest technical difference. Higher bit rate processing could be a factor but the biggest issue is probably just overall design aesthetic; Strymon has certain 'precise' sonic footprint and does ethereal reverbs well. Boss has their own thing going on...it will probably come down to which overall sound users prefer. Neither better or worse, just different.
On each delay or reverb effect you can get chorus too ! and it sounds great. The only thing I don't lik about this pedal is that the simulation A/B L/R set up is not a patch set up but a system one, so you can't get a wide stereo effect on the fly with two amps live. Nice vid thanks.
I like the new line of Boss -500 processors just fine. But for the money, I think the Eventide H9 Max (w/ reverbs from the Space pedal) is still the one to beat.
I play Chapman Stick which is a 2 handed tapping instrument that has 2 discreet outputs, one for the 6 right hand strings tuned in 4ths and another output for the 6 left hand bass/accompaniment strings tuned in 5ths. Question - is it possible to plug both instrument outputs into this unit's inputs and have 2 separate reverb sounds routed to the 2 separate outputs to 2 separate amps completely independent from each other w/no crosstalk? I would sometimes want the same sound on the whole instrument when playing the Stick solo as one big instrument like a piano and with a push of a button, go to 2 separate independent sounds when taking the role of a bass player in a band with one hand and a guitar player with the other hand. Will this thing do that?
Beautiful pedal. Im still waiting for a digital spring reverb to compete with the natural imperfect sound of a Reverb tank (from almost any old fender amp). This is the closest ive ever seen. Any ideas Rabea? Thanks sir, you are a marvelous player. I have said it before, and truely believe some people are just able to go somewhere when they play. A whole other state of mind. Thank you for taking me there even in simple demos. CHEERS!
Thanks very detailed info. I already just purchased a used Eventide Blackhole, before realising that RV500 is on sale in my area $200 😆 Is it worth getting or already overkill to mix with Blackhole? Thanks
Do you plan on reviewing the new Boss 200 series pedals? If you do, can you look into how to midi connect two 200 series pedals, for example between DD200 and EQ200? Will each pedal require trs-midi cable connected by a regular midi cable in between, or can they midi connect with just a trs cable in between them? Thanks. Love your videos.
Nice demo and looks like this pedal is a killer reverb pedal...but i still got a question in my mind. In ur opinion, is there any need for using delay pedal if u got this rv pedal??
Thanks Rabea, yet another great video mate. But to be honest I was not really impressed with the tone ^^ I have the DD500, Strymong BigSky and couple of rack units, I had high expectations but so far it seems the base tone is not really that exciting. Saying that, I think we need comparison videos for sure. But again so far no sound out of this unit made me smile while watching it.
In this example, you had input A getting affected by two parallel reverbs going out outputs A and B respectively. Is it possible to have input A get affected by reverb 1 and go out output A, and have input B go through reverb 2 going out output B? Basically, have two completely separate mono reverb channels?
Was expecting to hate it but some of the settings are good. You can't control modulation on each settling? Can you change the pitch on shimmer? Is early reflections supposed to be the old rack patch? Is space echo the same as the pedal?
Great video. May i have the B with the space echo or the dual reverb just on the left amp feeding into the A with a light room or early reflection going into the both amps ?
The delay side really isn't clear to me. Is it just one delay engine? I.e. does it have different models like, analog, tape, etc or is it just one electronic delay that you can edit the parameters of? I think its the latter but this doesn't go into it. If it had multiple delays, that really would be a game changer, Either way, I really like the sound of the reverb engines. They're very warm and natural sounding.
DD 500 + MD 500 + RV 500 = Ultimate ambience pedalboard
Why not throw in the Sy-300, Thing is amazing for ambience
Yes that's what I have. Wouldn't trade it for anything really
Why you do that
I swear, if I have to see that Yousician ad one more time, I will complain about it again.
soupjonz I can't stand that ad! Haha but it makes rabea money from ad revenue so I put up with it ha
soupjonz Yousician is the best way to learn the guitar. Just grab your acoustic or electric, and play along!
eddie n NOT AGAIN. I've put up with that commercial way to much now 😢😢😢.
OMG YES HAHA I LOVE THIS COMMENT
bruh u really tryna tell me you've never heard of adblocker
BOSS ought to give you a massive bonus.. this is gonna be the go-to rv-500 overview for years.
3 years later...and your words are proving true.
10:45, first time I've heard someone use gated reverb tastefully in a demo!
777jordan I agree, dude that’s crazy as hell! I’ve never even heard of a reverb like that, and I imagine it’d be hard to use tastefully.
Gotta say last few years Boss has released some very nice products, good to see a great brand keeps on getting better and better. Fantastic review on the RV 500
Yeah, Boss is one of the companies really taking their game to the next level. Not the first time I've been impressed by them lately.
This sold me on Boss instead of Strymon's Big Sky.
Had you watched his series on the bigSky that probably would have sold you on it. lol
I'll take a bigSky over the RV-500, but I'll also take the MD-500 over the Mobius.
if you want instant great tones get the strymon, if you want to find out who you really are go rv500...
If you want to forget who you really are, get dope !

Stop posing for one day in your life, twatsters.
Damn that's deep
@@MeatyController i get nervous when computer asks password
Sounds great.Trouble is anything YOU play man sounds bloody good.
Did anyone ever tell you that you look like the Brazilian Marcelo from Real Madrid?
On an unrelated note, awesome demo and playing.
G⚽LAZ⚽!
RABEA!!!! You could play through a cardboard box and it would sound immense!!!!!! How your lead fills melt into ethereal chords and the feels are just beautiful!
I love how far you’ve come just being yourself and doing what you love, and still seem so down to earth. Great job!
Slightly off topic, but that strat sounds GODLY!
Jon F. Just the best guitars ever made IMO
i feel like the last time i checked Rabea was at like 20k subs, now its 116k.
damn,
congrats bea!
overwhelmed with excitement for these pedals!!!!! amazing demos Rabea!!!
"Scorcher in Brighton" - What, 30 degrees Celsius?

When bea said also add delay I was sold. This is insane! Save so much room in the board. Great demo as always bea! Howdy from Texas.
21:15 bloody hell. The reverb alone is enough to make it sound like two entirely different guitars! I'm sold. I don't even have a stereo rig
So is it bye bye Strymon and hello Boss for your reverb now?
Lewis MacRae not for me :D! But I do love the old and faithful DD20
just got mine for use with synthesizers and it is mind blowing, ive owned a strymon and I thought that was the end game but this pedal is just so customisable
11:46 could definitely be used in the end of a cover of Hans Zimmer's 'Time'
could you do a review on the TC Electronic Hall of fame 2 Reverb too ? Just got that one and would love to see how you could make that baby sound ! Your playing is always top notch bro.
#cheah4bea
The bit you jammed out on the Non-Linear patch was stunning!
MIne's arriving next week, super excited!
Rabea, thanks for the in depth demo. This came at the perfect time. I'm definitely getting this pedal.
My god that strat sounds incredible
I added this video to my favorites. You're so talented man, and great explaining. I'm going to buy this pedal now.
That intro part you played was so nice!!
Agreed, completely insane
I have this unit and it is impressive even today.

An excellent reverb but you need to tweak your patches.
For a gig I usually use the ol’ RV-6 for ease of use.
Thank you. Your dual reverb explanation was so useful for me. Thank you so much
Rebea you lost a lot of weight, good for you mate !
Awesome review! I literally jumped out of my seat during the twist function. So Gnarly!
10:45 We need that in an upcoming song! Either Toska or Dorje.
the main advantage of this pedal above most digital effects units is the 32 bit digital audio architecture. its a quantum leap forward in tonal quality compared to 24 bit.
Now this pedal will join my collection. Cheers Bea!

the gated reverb sounds cool! you should do a song out of the riff you played there :)
been listening to your videos on my new naim hifi, and they sound..............bloody wonderful!
great demo Rabea; this pedal sounds like it was made for you!
Great demo Bea! Thanks dude. Cool shirt as well.
Just picked up one of these. Your face at Twist, man. So funny. Thanks for the vid. Should get me started.
OH man I'm sold! Fuck this sound amazing!
You just sold me on it, now to go buy it and set it up with my G2, thanks brother!!!

Still rocking the RV-500?

Awesome demo thank you. The spring is disappointing since the Boss FRV-1 was one of the best springs in a pedal I've tried.
Thankyou, just got one because of this.
Man your videos are fantastic. I loved the one on the md 500$ I just bought it yesterday. I think I have to get this one as well

I got some awesome karnivool vibes from that intro
Nice playing man! With heart... Good stuff!
Wow very nice reverb. Boss is awsome...

Lewis McRae RV-500 is £339 here in uk, Big Sky is £439.
That's a lot of cookies difference.

I think if you use a boss loop switcher like the es5, you can use midi to call up patch in rv500 that is set up as delay and reverb
great product, perfect explanation. i love it
Seems the only one on the internet that can really do this thing justice is this fine Gentleman. Thank you! Adding to my collection. Well done. 🎉
I could listen to you noodle all day long!
I like the new line of Boss -500 processors just fine. But for the money, I think the Eventide H9 Max (w/ reverbs from the Space pedal) is still the one to beat.
This demo/explanation is so much better than the vid from Boss.
Good to see Boss finally waking up - yet, still, the Meris Mercury 7 sounds way more exciting, if not as versatile.
Walter Smetak are you serious? Meris is stuck in the 90's
I play Chapman Stick which is a 2 handed tapping instrument that has 2 discreet outputs, one for the 6 right hand strings tuned in 4ths and another output for the 6 left hand bass/accompaniment strings tuned in 5ths. Will this thing do that?
I'm not 100% but having had a look at the specs etc it appears to me that you can do exactly that
Yes, he states this and shows it at the end of the video if you watch the entire thing. LR/in LR/out Separate, Parallel and Series.
Cool song at the beginning of the track!
Very well explained video! Can this be used with a saxophone?
Beautiful pedal. Im still waiting for a digital spring reverb to compete with the natural imperfect sound of a Reverb tank (from almost any old fender amp). This is the closest ive ever seen. Both the Warp and Twist features were on the DD-20 too
Thanks very detailed info. I already just purchased a used Eventide Blackhole, before realising that RV500 is on sale in my area $200 😆 Is it worth getting or already overkill to mix with Blackhole? Thanks
Hello Rabea.. great review as usual. I have to I have to ask the obvious question though.. how does it compare to the Big Sky?
Do you plan on reviewing the new Boss 200 series pedals? If you do, can you look into how to midi connect two 200 series pedals, for example between DD200 and EQ200? Will each pedal require trs-midi cable connected by a regular midi cable in between, or can they midi connect with just a trs cable in between them? Thanks. Love your videos.
This guy is the man
Nice demo and looks like this pedal is a killer reverb pedal...but i still got a question in my mind. In ur opinion, is there any need for using delay pedal if u got this rv pedal??
Great review!
10:42 sounds like something like Jamie West-Oram from The Fixx might play. Very cool.
But again so far no sound out of this unit made me smile while watching it.
konnektlive man I think it sounds pretty good. Lots of cool options on top of great sounds. Price wise how does this compare to the Big Sky?
In this example, you had input A getting affected by two parallel reverbs going out outputs A and B respectively. Is it possible to have input A get affected by reverb 1 and go out output A, and have input B go through reverb 2 going out output B? Basically, have two completely separate mono reverb channels?
Sounds like a great pedal, wonder when they'll be available at sweet water or something like that
Was expecting to hate it but some of the settings are good. You can't control modulation on each settling? Can you change the pitch on shimmer? Is early reflections supposed to be the old rack patch? Is space echo the same as the pedal?
Rabea, Amazing playing as always. Just watched you and Rob in the USA. How does this stack up to the Source Audio Ventris unit?
Great Demo. how are you running this in your chain? I hear the reverb in stereo...the guitar is straight up middle..good..etc
I'm loving the Boss 500 pedals, why do you stick with the Stryfecta?
Bea, how does this compare to the eventide space. I'm looking to buy a reverb pedal and I keep coming back to eventide ever damn time.
Great video.
May i have the B with the space echo or the dual reverb just on the left amp feeding into the A with a light room or early reflection going into the both amps ?
What's the guitar you are playing at the start of the video? I'd like to buy it
The delay side really isn't clear to me. Is it just one delay engine? I.e. does it have different models like, analog, tape, etc or is it just one electronic delay that you can edit the parameters of? I think its the latter but this doesn't go into it. If it had multiple delays, that really would be a game changer,
Either way, I really like the sound of the reverb engines. They're very warm and natural sounding.
