Unfortunately AN along with the other Jet2 757’s will all be retired by January 2025, some with almost twenty years of loyal service to the airline. You can watch my trip report on the oldest, G-LSAI, on our channel now.
I used to work as a mechanic on 757 at MRO down in Hants, where Jet2 and other operators maintained their fleet of 757. Great aircraft to work on, I've spent about 6 years working on them (PAX and CARGO). There still is a lot of them around specially in cargo config, DHL, SwiftAir, etc. I remember when we finished maintenance, and DHL 757 (empty, only fuel to get to LHR) was taking off on full blast, she was going up like a home sick angel, great view.
Love the 757s. It was always an amazing sight seeing them stop with just enough space at leeds, since covid, they have been Manchester only so an extra hour away from me to go see them
The 757 is the best looking twin jet IMO, Designed and built in the days when Boeing put engineering excellence and build quality over corner cutting and profit hence 757's still safely flying in their 30's I flew on a Monarch 757 to the Airbus factory in Toulouse in the 90's, I will never forget it's take off grunt and lovely sound of the RB211's spooling up! Liked and subbed!
Why don't you invite the A340-600 to touch and go at Leeds Airport? The A340-600 is very long and has huge engines. The A340-100 to 400 has tiny engines and it won't be able to touch and go as it's known as the hairdryer power. If you do, try not to laugh when you see how long it is compared to the usual 737s 😂. Sometimes the A340-600 gets stuck at airports and has to be towed to runways 😂😂
I recently flew on jet 2 36 year old 757 when it was used to replace a defective 737 on my pathos bound flight on may 2nd this aircraft is still a wonderful example of Boeings best ever design makes me ask the question why Boeing don't resurrect a up-to-date 757, well at least we have a few more months with jet 2s, long may the memory of this aircraft live on.
June 17th 2024, I was in PMI flying LS869, we got there on a 737-8NG, but then a week later, we was going back to MAN on a 737-800. until the flight got delayed until 12:10 in the afternoon, and the aircraft was swapped to Gulf, Lima, Sierra, Alpha, India, ( G-LSAI ), a 757-200, on LS870. this was a dream come true for me, as I always wanted to fly the 757, before its retirement globally, and I am happy to get videos and photos that will forever be relevant in my life, I am thankful Jet2 hasn’t retired all 757 aircraft, but it will be sad to see the airframe go in the next few years.
Request: I've been a captain on this aircraft for 5 years now and have a lot of history with it, including the odd mayday. It's only got a bit over a month left to retirement at the point i wrote this. 😢 I love your content. Would you mind if i shared some of your videos on my social media?
Hi mate, thanks ever so much for the comment, absolutely feel free to share, additionally our latest video shows a full trip report on G-LSAI (Albeit as a passenger!), you might enjoy that one too! All the best.
If you’re interested in any pictures of the Repair patch on ANs nose I can take some next time it comes in the hangar for an A check. It’s a pretty impressive repair
That would be pretty cool😄 Is this sort of repair typically done by Boeing at the time, presumably just totting up whether the cost to repair will cost more than a replacement aircraft? Ryanair’s incident in Rome in 2008 always confused me, as that aircraft in the pictures didn’t look all too damaged, and was only about two years old, but was scrapped. Do you reckon that was a case of Boeing coming in and saying it’s too heavily damaged?
There’s a lot of factors to it. When I was at Thomas Cook, one of the condor 757s NLG was accidentally raised during maintenance. boeing had effectively written it off but Thomas Cook and condor decided to repair it themselves. With non standard structural repairs like this and the Ryanair crash, the operator will always have to contact the manufacturer (some heavily modified aircraft the modifier may take the responsibility). The manufacturer will provide drawings and instructions on how to repair the aircraft and they may even suggest it be written off but its the operators responsibility to find someone to repair it or repair it themselves. Obviously there are limits but there’s no amount of damage that cannot be repaired its just how much it will cost. Ill see if i can find out who repaired AN tomorrow & I worked at Ryanair for 3 years so ill enquire about their write off if you’re interested. I know they still use it for spares because i fitted a pylon from it a few years ago onto another aircraft
My first 757 flight was in 2019 on G-LSAD, surprisingly it was the same aircraft on my return flight too. This aircraft was the one that kick started my love for aviation but unfortunately AD was retired one year later, but since then I have also flown on G-LSAC twice and G-LSAJ twice. I’d love to be able to get on AI before it’s retired but I believe my chances will be very low.
My last 757 ride was on Alpha Golf in what was probably 2016 time…AG was retired very early compared to the current fleet. Never say never. Canary Islands are popular for this type from Manchester so if that’s where you’re headed…
The safest passenger aircraft in the world is the A340-600 in the A340-642 variant where the toilets are under the passenger cabin. The A340-642 is flew by Lufthansa, South African, Thai Air, Indonesian, China Eastern and a few other airliners. This year (2024) 12 more A340s returned to service including the last A340-300. Virgin Atlantic sold all their A340-600s to a cargo company and I think Virgin Atlantic regret selling them because they need them again
I based that off a 757-300 being at I believe Manchester (possibly?) once or two this year… With that new silly livery?😁 Anyhoo, the 757’s are going from their fleet very shortly.
Trouble with these budget airlines, there's always the risk you have to share your flight with people who don't know how to behave . Particularly with the holiday destinations.
November has three scheduled flights for last flights of LSAC LSAN and one other airframe. I flew on LSAI on Sunday, video coming out soon of that flight to celebrate the 757.
My original idea was MAN>FUE and straight back, it was about £130 all in. My partner wanted to book on though and it wasn’t fair sticking her on a plane for about ten hours, so I swapped for the MAN>MAH and took a Ryanair flight home. I took some footage of the Ryanair flight so I think we’ll do a trip report on that flight too, as “normal” as they are people obsess over Ryanair on here thanks to the whole hard landing meme. Enjoy the flight on the 757, fingers crossed it stays as the 757 and you get AI.

It’s crazy that when I was young the likelihood of a 757 was high. Now it’s the opposite!

I flew on a jet2 757 a few years ago and enjoyed every minute of it. I would not hesitate to fly on it again today.
This channel deserves way more subscribers, great AV-geek stuff.
Appreciate the kind words mate. We’ve certainly got some ideas in mind for future videos, so hopefully the support continues😊
It’s amazing how Jet2 keep old planes running such as the 757 and 737 classics. Must be something in those Yorkshire tea bags

I flew G-AN recently as the Captain. It's a true pilot's aircraft
Nice I wish I could fly one 😢 but if I do become a pilot the 757 props won’t be around
I met Father Christmas last year

Very interesting to hear the history of just one aircraft!
Absoulutly Loved This Video Flew This aircraft Back in April Of this Year I would never of Known About this If it wasn't For you Great video
Beautiful aircraft thanks for the video
Great video. Absolutely love hearing about the history of an aircraft. Shame there are so few 757 left.
Awwhh I would kill to fly on a jet2 75
I love seeing them all at Manchester, the jet2 holiday 757 is my fav plane
The 757 is so overpowered and my fave aircraft
G-LSAI has been my favorite plane since 2019 since I flew on it miracle it’s lasted this long tbh.
It doesn’t go out too much anymore grounded unless needed on a busy day
I flew to New York Newark in 2016 on G-LSAN ,will be a sad loss in a few months.
I like your work, keep it going mate ❤
Thanks mate, feedback means a lot!
I miss seeing these beauts at Leeds. Flew on most of the fleet in the time they were there…
Great video 👍✈️

Sorry I watched this. On a jet2 flight to Cyprus soon 😱
😁Whixh will likely be a 737-800. But even if it was a 757, there’s nothing to worry about. Enjoy your trip!
Condor fly to UK? 🤔

Anyhoo, the 757’s are going from their fleet very shortly.
Bondor are retiring theirs as well in 2024/25
Sadly the Jet2 757s won't make it to 2025 they are confirmed to be retired before the end of this year
Delta still flys over 100 757s.
Delta are not a european airline.

Cool very lucky @@Crewgotwings
Is Trumps a 757 200 series???..he seems to love his and by fuck it looks awsome!!!
Sure is. There is a good documentary on it, even if it’s very dramatised.
I flew on AI to Funchal on Monday morning, so far I've flown on AJ, AG, AC,AD and AI, yes please more J2 B757 history videos please
