Did Jet2 Really Copy Allegiant?

  • Today we dive into the mystery of the Jet2 livery origin, and did they copy, or draw inspiration from, the US airline, Allegiant Airlines?
Jet2 Holidays is a UK leisure Airline, operating the likes of the Boeing 757, 737 and Airbus A321s, whereas Allegiant is an ultra-low-cost US based airline, but yet the two have remarkably similar paint schemes, what happened?

I am a German who sees condor planes from time to time. And you either love the livery or hate it. It definetely is iconic and a good marketing move. If you see the airline fairly often, you'll get used to it :)

    • @ax.f-1256
      @ax.f-1256 3 месяца назад +1

@@VectraVXFor us Germans there is just two opinions about the nee condor livery
      You hate it
      Or
      You like It.
But the old Thomas Cook livery ?
Nope. We all hated it. Every single German hated it.
The condor logo was missing except on the winglets and the condor logo is what we want on condor aircraft.
Hence why condor created that hybrid mix livery out of the mast Thomas cook livery to bring the logo back, when Thomas Cook went bankrupt.
Before going to that sock livery.
In fact the hate for the name Thomas Cook was so great in Germany, that they had to repaint the airplanes again with the name "condor" written in large letters on them.
When the company Thomas Cook (before they went bankrupt) acquired condor, They of course painted all aircraft the same and put the name "Thomas Cook" on the fuselage like with all airlines under the Thomas cook brand.
So basically every Condor aircraft looked identical to the Thomas cook aircraft in the UK.
      Except a small
*Powered by condor* painting near the tail.
The backlash was so great and we Germans hated that name so much, that the customers were literally refusing to fly condor at all.
It had such a negative impact on the airline, that thomas Cook was forced to repaint the aircraft remove the name Thomas Coom from the forward part of the aircraft and put the name condor back on the aircraft just to get the customers to return 😂😂
Because people were literally refusing to book flight with Thomas cook.
So condor (owned by Thomas Cook) was therefore doing business as Condor with their original name instead of Thomas cook. The livery stayed the same but they were forced to put the name "condor" on the aircraft (with the exception of the thomas Cook logo on the tailfin)
Which is the reason why condor was more or less the only airline in the Thomas cook group which was doing business under their old name/under a different name then Thomas Cook.
Because 99% of all Germans were like:
Who TF is that damn Thomas Cook ?!?!
I want to fly an airline and no restaurant!
Cook ? I though that's an airline and no kitchen?!?
And why is his name written on that aircraft ?!? I want to go to my holiday destination with an airline and not call the airplane by the name of the owner?!?
Screw it I'm flying Lufthansa or Air Berlin (Back then still existing) instead !!
So Condor which survived the Thomas cook collapse and is now again a normal airlines is now of course using a livery with would immediately tell everyone:
      *It's a condor airplane*
Because that is what we Germans want to know:
Hey look that colorful sock there ? Yeah that's our airline codor from back home in Germany. We like that airline.

Too many white aircraft, bill board titles and logo tails, after all this is an airlines canvas to promote its brand, and this 'striped' theme continues inside the cabin and looks calssy and stylish. Well done Condors design team😉

This isn't a new phenomenon. Back in the 60s Channel Airways bought a load of Vickers Viscounts from the American airline Continental and was allowed to retain the rather smart golden livery that they had worn in the USA. The livery was adopted by other types in the Channel Airways fleet such as the One-Eleven and Trident. Not the Comet though which retained a basic Olympic Airways colour scheme as the company was running out of money by then. The airline folded in 1972.

When an airline joins an alliance part of the deal is they have to paint a percentage of the fleet in the alliance livery. That's why you see star alliance/one world/sky team liveries flying around.
The star alliance livery is the second iteration with the 'clothes line' livery being the previous if im correct.
