We have 2 Jimnys. The cabin is supposed to be customisable, hence the various M8 bolt slots on all doors and the dashboard, and the M6 attachments points in the boot. Whether one wants phone holders or water bottle holders, or baggage hooks, you can choose what you want in there.
It is adequately good on highways too if you understand that this Suzuki engine is meant to be revved. I just returned from a 1400-km trip with the last 500 km done in the standard 9 hours with 3, 30-40 minute breaks. I was constantly touching and staying at 120 kmph, overtaking easily, often touching 5000 RPM comfortably. I didn't manage this in first trip and wondered what the heck is the power. Then, I did the standard numbers when I understood how to run the car. It's not underpowered for standard runs on highways.

Auto or manual?
Some 18-20 yrs ago before purchasing my first car i used to listen to Renuka mam and Hormazd sir who ran the auto show on tv those days. Loved their inputs then and even now. May they live long and healthy. Autocar has a great team including Gavin, Sergio and Nikhil.
The only issue i find with the Jimny is cost cutting and still being overpriced. If Suzuki prices it right, its genuinely the best car for India.
The last lines perfectly summarise the Jimny. Low speed finesse is its ballpark. Be it jungle, urban jungle or off the tarmac
Hi Hormazd, just did a 2150km trip from Gujarat to Kerala in my Jimny manual in just 3 days and I must say next time choose the manual as the long term car rather than the automatic as it makes a world of difference. Secondly, the power to weight of the Jimny as per the RC is 103.5Bhp/ tonne which is more than even the Polo GT TSI which had similar power and had a turbo charged petrol engine. Thirdly, its when you drive the Jimny on the highway you truly understand that this is literally a jacked up Alto k10 with an extra 500cc, 38Bhp, ladder on frame chassis and 4 wheel drive and almost same gear ratios. Further, it can keep up with almost anything on most highways (not expressways as they are wider and don't suit the Jimny) despite all the heavy weight zooming past due to it's ability to fit into gaps between slow and lumbering trucks and overtake off the road on the left shoulders. Only sore point apart from the ones mentioned in your video is the quality of the seats which are not meant for long distance driving.
Jimny has won every offroad enthusiasts heart. Its simply a no non sense practical machine
99% Maruti agents are hired to spam the Comment section. Just ask yourself if people appreciated this product today there were more Maruti than Thar but reality shows different.

At 10.74 L ex showroom, Jimmy is a good choice. Proper 4x4, ladder on frame , good mileage & great service network. The only thing that is stopping people from buying it is the doubtful build quality, if it scores well in crash test & the prices don't increase then it can sell well for sure.
But yes a turbo engine would have been much better, this one is underpowered, adding to that IMO this car looks puny in real life.

Guys please get a throttle controller to make the best use of the engine. Jimny's figures are fairly adequate, all it needs is better throttle response tuning.
I have driven my jimmy for over 13k km covered multiple passes even the might Sach pass and shinkula pass its one hell of a little monster
I have the 3-door.
I find it perfect in congested city traffic as well as on bad or no roads off-roading.
Yes, I’ve made modifications to my car.
The #1 are double diff-lockers.
The #2 are massive lights.
The rest are a large number of convenience items in the cabin, too many to mention in detail here.
The Jimny is an enthusiast vehicle, it is not the best on-road, but it is very good off-road straight from the showroom. From that moment, there are tons of modifications you can do to make it suit your personal needs and wants.
A review form the guardian of Indian automotive journalism is in itself a tribute to this marvel of a car. I have been reading Hormazd Sorabjee's editorials in the Autocar magazine since schooldays. Carry on Sir. God bless.

I was thinking of replacing my ignis with Jimny, but I’m doing all the mentioned off-roading things with my car. And it is better in highways, no worries about overtaking etc. I need to reconsider now.
The best way to avoid tha alarm is to keep it attached irrespective of you are travelling alone or not.
I have a huge collection of previous dedade's big size Autocar magazines with plenty of content. Good days they were. Lots of sturdy cars and butch SUVs...!
There was a lot of expectations on the launch of Jimny. I guess this car will be limited to the serios off road enthusiasts only and not for long highway rides. Great job on providing us with a this long term review.😀

Jimny body shape falls in the 8-12lakhs price bracket but carries the price tag of a mid size suv
3 door electric version of Gimny has the potential to become an instant hit in our country. In my opinion, Maruti must focus on releasing this new version. Kindly try it out.

Only 1 car garage - Jimny should be the no. 1 choice. Looks are subjective, but it actually looks like a toy. And i think that's the only reason for poor sale numbers
I'm struggling with recommended tyre pressure in the city. From what I can see, sidewall height in this video is more than in my car. What pressure have you guys set it to?
Pricing is not good value for money?
My computation is if the jimny will last you 10 years to 15 years of good happy driving.Chances are it can.
Minimum headaches, minimum maintaince cost with maximum driving time than stagnant repair time. That is good value for money.
Your last lines summarize it very nicely. I own an Alpha Auto. I could reach 120kmph on highways, but engine response is sluggish at that speed. Also continuous speed alarm from 120kmph is very annoying. Braking is not so good. It does feel underpowered on steep hills tarmac roads. No backlighting on most of the buttons( including gear selector). Rear seat lacks thigh support. Rear seat belt reminder is annoying.
My opinion is that Jimny is a nice city car with good offroading abilities( though I got stuck in light mud at Nathang Valley, East Sikkim). It is certainly not a highway car.
The purposes of Gypsy & Jimny are different. While the former was meant for offroading, Police, Military, mining use, the latter is meant to be a family car with good offroading abilities. Keeping that in mind, Maruti should've given a more powerful engine and atleast a 5 speed automatic gearbox.
And the launch price was hugely inflated ( 17 lacs on road for Alpha AT dual tone in Kolkata). I bought it just out of my love for Gypsy. Now I feel somewhat let down by Maruti.
I think Jimny is a very capable car specially for Narrow uphill/downhill drives. We should not compare even in mind with Thar as both r very different.
Launching Jimny with a hiked price and later reducing it was a bad bad idea.
If Maruti Suzuki decides to launch a new car people will wait until the price lowers until later date and then they might change their mind by low initial sales figures.
A 1.6 multijet engine is what this car needs.

From looking at it... There seems to be significant body roll.. Though not sure.
What about the manual transmission model?
So its underpowered . And that it! Not bad considering the rest!
Anyway it will be a future classic for sure...

Maruthi did a wrong decision launched 5 door instead 3 door. This will be our personal car and we are looking for 3 door Jimny
It badly needs a six speed auto and hybrid engine. Little interior changes to make a excellent proposition.

Contrary to the Review, Jimny Runs Best on Highways esp with Stock H/L tyres.
Since the Jimny was the much awaited dream car for many of us viewers we expected a much more budget friendly vehicle.
But that is now an old story sales dropped due to the over exaggerated price.
For Jimny to get back into the India market i suggest that the 3 door version should be brought into the Indian market and then you will notice an increase is sales and would be at the top of the table out beating several cars in its range.
BUT MARUTI SHOULD CONSIDER the price to be less than 8 lakhs on road for such a feat to occur.
Hopefully mine and few of others retired and in service would love to see this happen.
Is it Automatic or Manual?
Bottom line don't buy jimny for driving only for paved roads.

Kindly insist Maruthi Suzuki to launch the 3 door Jimny in India atleast in limited quantity for every year even if the price is same as 5 door. The real charm of Jimny is in the compact and right proportions of the 3 door model. There are many people wanting the 3 door Jimny. If everything is based only on practicality we will not be able to enjoy the good things.
5.99 ex-showroom should be the ideal starting pricing of this product; Jimny. Pricing at present is not value for money.

Manual is the best to go for 4x2 .
Instead of 2 door jimny they need a RWD positioned cheaper
