Thanks for watching! What stories from Zelda lore should I tell next?
THE IMPRISONING WAR
You should do a video on the Gerudo/Hylian War. There's so much incredible, in depth story for an event that happened between games
Ganondorf being executed!
Hyrule Civil War! 🗡
Origin of Dark Link, Specifically trying to answer these 3 questions: How was Dark Link made? and is Dark Link The Same one through out all his appearances (except for when hes made by Cia and Vaati)? And what kind of evil did Link have that went into Dark Link
“What’s your favorite class?”
“Zelda History taught by Professor Zeltik at the University of RUclips.”
The Teachedian lmao I died 😂
Lol
Seriously real world's history is so boring , hyrule's past and history is so interesting , mysterious and mystical.
Asahi Takeshi I think the problem is that history is often simply not taught that well. There are actually tons of interesting stories from history.
@@kingcreeper938 I don't like modern history , I like to read about ancient civilizations (only in school).
Imagine being able to play through the battle you described. I've always wanted a war storyline in a zelda game, and this made me want it even more
I'd like it to be like Hyrule warriors
@@samienr Yeah, it would be awesome if they had an open world like botw with massive battles happening in the different areas
Skyward Studios Or it could be like an MMO or strategy RPG commanding an entire army
Skyward Studios Shadow of War is a pretty great alternative, so long as you don’t play Act 4.
I wish the DLC for BOTW had been playing as Link from 100 years ago as Calamity Ganon returned. I know how unrealistic that would be and how much work would have to go into that but I would have loved it. I would love to see that all happen as an animated series or something though.
Imagine being one of the citizens or soldiers that ran to that citadel. Especially if they had to choose between there and hateno. One of those battles ended in a miracle which saved thousands. And one...did not.
And it's not even like it was wrong for anyone to think they'd be safer at the citadel. It made the most logistic sense. It was probably the majority choice if people had the option...
Hyrule is pretty empty...
@@Kirainian_Gaming cause everyones dead.
Iván Sánchez Fernández Hyrule is empty, and lacking the cheery atmosphere of other Zelda games because everyone is dead. Confining the remaining citizens to small villages. It’s the perfect atmosphere for the game however.
Yeah. It is probably why Hyrule, by the time of the game, feels so empty. Because many of it inhabitants were slaughtered during the calamity, and those who retreated, either went to Hateno or the Citadel. And most of them went to the Citadel, so the villages by the time we see during the game, could very well be the survivors of Hateno
@@Kirainian_Gaming look at all the ruins. There used to be a lot more people. Now it’s all ashes
8:59 this was the moment i got emotional...
it dawned on me that these men were *alone* on that tower and they had realized there was *no going back* . the kingdom was gone in the heartsf of the bravest men alive... it seems like they planted explosives on the bridge and planned a tactical strike, a guardian lay at the edge of the demolished bridge to show the Tenacity of their attack, their hive minds redirecting each and every one to the nearest path to YOU..
imagine what they had seen that night... countless men absolutely vaporized by explosive energy based rounds with pin point accuracy, entire towns crawled over by glowing death machines until you couldn't tell the rubble from the mud... imagine what it would feel like seeing them Running at you *faster than a horse* ... climbing *massive* tower walls and cliffs at a sprint speed... they attacked the Tallest fortress from the sky, raining death from above. Every man met their fate staring a guardian in its Empty blue eye.
like damn, the guardians are a terrifying FORCE
I mean, just encountering one in the game (at least, early game) is already terrifying enough. Imagine a whole army of them
True. These machines are nightmares incarnate. Nightmares so many men, women and children wished to wake up from on that fateful day while the guardians tore into them with literal laser precision. It must have been the most terrifying moment this land ever suffered.
The mere thought of having the best, most powerful, most trusted and most deadly weapon turned against you where it was at your nearest is quite the frightening thought.
And the Beasts. Imagine you're a Champion, planing your next attack inside your very trusted machine, and out of nowhere the dungeon starts turning a sickening magenta, your Divine Beast cries out loud as you loose control and a very dark entity starts manifesting behind you.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I like the way you explained the moment.
Imagine how terrifying these things would be if a modern military learned to replicate them. Explosives don’t deter these monstrosities. Bullets would do absolutely nothing to them, and they’d overrun and swarm any enemy, firing beams with enough force to blast through any fortification.
@@princesscadance197 cool to see people still reading what I have to say. They truly are a devastating force and it terrifies me knowing we're on the brink of autonomous war machines.
Just imagine the feeling of surviving a battle that your side lost, standing on a hill looking at your capital city in flames and overrun. Survivors guilt would be awful.
(P.T.S.D. would like to know your location as well)
There canonically were no survivors. They all fought to the death to avenge their fallen comrades
@@prestongarvey57No wonder the defeat here marked the end of Hyrule Kingdom as a political entity.
Honestly, being able to prevent this tragedy in Age of Calamity was very cathartic, yet at the same time, I feel like I was robbed of experiencing the original story of Akkala Citadel. On the bright side, we were able to see what the inside of the Citadel looked like both before and during the siege.
This video felt so dark and depressing. Every minute i felt chills up my spine. And honestly I absolutely loved it. I always found Akkala citadel to be one the least interesting places for me when I first found it, but it’s immediately done a 180 with this video. Damn this place is cool.
How come there's no g mod of the siege of akkala citadel?
The first time I saw the citadel, my first reaction was “I’m not climbing that.” So I didn’t even try to go there, so I went through Akkala without a map, and with early weapons, we’re talking soldier’s broadsword level here. It was hell. I ended up going all the way back there and doing it, and I didn’t really pay attention to any of the details, because I was too busy getting angry at that pesky bokoblin attack where they swing their weapon in circles. It wasn’t until master mode when I took it slower and with a more open mind, I realized how good a fortress the place really was. Then I cared to learn its lore, and with this video, it’s my favorite place in Akkala.
A really fun trick: you can bring that long metal board stuck in the malice to the top of the tower using magnesis. If you set it down at the edge and smack it a bunch with stasis and hop on it, you can go flying.
You should see Fallout lore. 😨
I was too scared to LOOK at akkala.damn.
Damn we might get to actually play this battle in the new Hyrule warriors game. There was a shot of cannons firing in the trailer, that might be a hint
This comment made me smile with joy because you can
@@awkwardgenius9910 and you win it
FINALLY! Someone has made a video about the citadel, I was so surprised when nobody talked about it
Great video, great idea for a series
See, that’s why BOTW is my personal favorite moments like the ones around the 2:50 mark are made for people like me. I’m an aesthete and I see art in the little things but when you show me things on that scale I get lost in it. I remember seeing the beach village for the first time I look out and see the sunset reflected in the water along with the fire from the torches, it’s beautiful. From an artistic perspective, it’s definitely one of the best looking Zelda games. I felt the same way when windwaker came out. Although the windwaker style was different, it had its own beauty to it.
This is like the history channel lol
except better!
Now we just need someone to create the actual battle itself. Doesn't necessarily have to be using game footage or animated, it could just be maps like this one, but at least make the story of how the battle progressed (non-canon of course)
@@k1productions87 Luckily we'll see this in HWAOC :D
@@prosperstarling3513 Super excited for that
@@k1productions87 you better be!
Such a well edited video! I really wish that BotW focused more on the day Calamity Ganon came back, because its such an interesting yet tragic concept. Can’t wait for the next one in the series! Maybe you could do something on Fort Hateno?
Great idea @tara wilson !
Welp! Looks like Zeltik took your Idea seriously.
Have it rival Twilight Princess in how dark it would be?
Andrew U I’m not a fan of how dark the colour palette of TP was. The colour and vibrancy of BOTW needs to stay. There’s a fine line between a dark game and a miserable game.
Your description of the soldiers' last stand at the citadel honestly made me tear up. Especially since you'd detailed their flee with survivors from the castle and surrounding villages, so that just paints this horrible picture of soldiers frantically defending terrified civilians with no hope for survival. So yeah, thanks for that!
Your voice is really soothing in this one.
Wait w h a t
Some people listen to ASMR I listen to Zeltik lore videos
This is like an archeology video in hyrule. I love it!!
So interesting!
The narration with the in game edits were just immersive!
I can’t wait for more!
I really enjoyed this new series, especially the explanation of the Citadel from a practical militaristic perspective.
I love how you used gameplay footage for this, dressing Link up as one of the soldiers is super smart!
Who’s back after the announcement of the new hyrule warriors?
I know its probably quite obvious, but I'd love to hear more details/stories from BOTW's lost temple if there's enough to cover. It's a very interesting place, and I want to know why it's littered with guardians.
in the book it's written that the guardians were most likely placed there by the sheikah to protect the big goddess statue and the shrine at the end of it
You should cover the sealing war
This is such a cool idea for a series! It's amazing how deep the Zelda lore gets at times.
So you're basically visualizing "Creating a Champion"? Very nice (especially for lazy readers), and with a good quality. Hope you're doing this for the rest of the map as well. There are lots of things to cover. I'm very interested in your theories about Thyphlo Ruins.
Great video! Imagine if this had been a memory...
Also, looking forward to future videos in this series!
Shoulda been a playable memory. Instead of link and zelda running off they could have gone to akkala with the rest of the survivors.
Nick Zalan I’d prefer if you got to play a common soldier, get to see an outside perspective of the events. The soldiers from the numerous Guardians around them clearly sold their lives dearly fighting them. In other LoZ games, the soldiers are either incompetent or possessed to become the enemy, it’s somewhat refreshing to hear a story of competence. I feel that there should be an inscription along the lines of I'm dying, but I won't surrender! Farewell Motherland. 20.VII.41 from the Brest Fortress. Of course, you’d have to change the rating given how horrific of a massacre that was.
Here’s the thing when they got to hateno Zelda and link weren’t late even though it had been days but Akkala citadel is like only a few hours away from hyrule and while the guardians could’ve gotten to the citadel it wouldn’t be too late since the citadel is massive no guardian can climb it maybe walk along the narrow pathway a guardian is massive so it would get knocked off meaning the guardians just used their lasers aiming up the citadel like when using a glider and a guardian tried aiming while your at a high altitude and there are no guardian remains at the citadel only beneath it so yeah plus at the citadel link would only need to fight a few guardians along the narrow pathway he could dodge the lasers since it was a massive field down below and all he needed to do was hide along the trees and use his master sword beams to kill the sky guardians or just climb or hide along the cliffs whereas blatchery plain in fort hateno only had one aproach so the guardians could flood in and there would be no way to hide or escape but the citadel is high up and has forests surrounding it so you could escape easily and hide easily as a human just you would be seen as a guardian so that’s why the soldiers destroyed the guardians with ease
Would love to hear about Fort Hateno or the colluseum
Now this is gonna be interesting
(Edited now that it’s premiered and I’ve watched it)
This is indeed very interesting and I enjoyed this story. My next question would be, why are there so many dead guardians around the temple of time? It’s quite obvious they destroyed it, but why are there dead ones? Who defended it?
Maybe they decayed over time? Magic? The possibilities are endless.
I think that when zelda returned to the castle where ganon resides and trapped him there with all of her powers some of the machines broke and then decade through time
Well we know that at least two sheikah were put in charge of getting link from fort hateno to the shrine of resurrection. I theorize that they met a few more sheikah members and as they were scaling the wall to the plateau with link in tow, were spotted by guardians. In a desperate distraction bid 1-2 soldiers set off eith link in a straight line to the shrine of resurrection, while a chunk of members went to the temple to create a gap and distance them from link. The sheikah are adept fighters so I assume they might of actually succeeded in fending off the guardians since there are so few and the temple of time remains mostly intact.
You never know what could have happened. With only one one access point and the high ground, it's not unreasonable to say that there were soldiers posted on the Plateau too. Maybe Henry is right and it was the sheikah, but I personally doubt that. As I say, it could have been Hylian Soldiers, as in AoC there are Hylian forces on the Plateau and while they may have retreated there with King Rhoam in the universe where he doesn't die, considering the Plateau was a large civilian center, raised above the ground with only one entry point, it would make sense to have soldiers stationed there.
Great video and I loved the tone you kept in it, sounded like a true lore channel.
One thing I'd like to add to it is the Guardian Skywatchers, we see them patrolling the fortress so maybe they had a hand in it's capture too. Akkala Citadel wasn't designed against flying enemies and the soldiers would lose their altitude advantage.
This was great. I would love you to talk about the Forgotten temple of Hylia (The one from Skyward Sword) that is hidden between Rowan Plain Tabantha Snowfield and why it got filled with guardians.
Yeah! my favourite area in the game!
This feels like something from the History channel.
I LOVED this episode, like you said a lot of people complain that the Zelda series doesn't have a lot of compelling stories. But there is SO much hidden just beneath the surface. Your editing and storytelling in this episode was on point! I loved this content, keep it up!
Jesus Christ the editing is superb. I felt like I was watching a historical documentary or something. 10/10.
Is this official Zelda canon or a theory?
If it was a theory, I think you forgot about something very important: "Flying Guardians"
Akkala Citadel reminds me to The Eyrie from Game of Thrones, which was supposed to be impregnable before Agon The Conqueror came along with flying dragons.
When I was playing Breath of the Wild, I remember Akkala Citadel to be one of the first places where I encountered flying guardians.
In my mind, I always imagined that flying guardians played a crucial role in overwellming the fortress.
Other than that, great video!!! I loved the whole analysis.
I'd like to know more about the Imprisoning War that took place before the events of ALttP. That or the civil war before OoT that claimed the life of the Hero of Time's mother
I've always wanted Akkala Citadel DLC in some way, and this just makes me want it even more!
This is like a documentary. I love it.
I'd love to see artwork of the battle of the Hyruleans defending the citadel against the Guardians.
Same. Would be really nice too. Maybe some guardians firing lasers at people, hyruleans firing cannons, etc.
Welp now we get to see this happen
You have very good story telling skills.. I could feel the dread and terror from the soldiers and hylains as they were being attacked
i'm rather empathetic and your telling of this made me tear up, I really felt the terror of what happened.
I would like Toei Animation to make a full anime series of Legend Of Zelda...its just amazing
Edit: Now that I think of it, Ufotable and A-1 Pictures would do a great job too, or david production too
How about studio Ghibli ? Toei animation isn't that great as compared to Studio Ghibli.
Wow, that was incredibly well written, I could imagine everything in vivid detail with the clear descriptions and the emotional weight was quite an experience. I have to say, you are an excellent storyteller, definitely love to see more of these, I'm gonna check out the other videos in this series, keep it up!
its so good! i love the parts where he acts out the destruction of the fort as link in botw
Man that gave me goosebumps. You don't think about this stuff too much when playing the game, but the backstory is truly tragic and harrowing.
I swear to Hylia this *must* become a full series!!!
3:55 imagine about enemies in Akkala who knows how to use canons, that would been awesome and challenging.
Amazing storytelling. I was so engrossed in it, thanks to your editing and vocal work. I've always seen the Guardians in a similar light to the Martian Tripods of War of the Worlds, and this story in particular parallels a huge part of the downfall of man in that story.
This was an amazing video. The tone was appropriate for the topic, the amount of descriptive language you used got the perfect feeling for the video, and you made an amazing video. *liked,* *subscribed*
I just want to say, your story telling is amazing. From the language you use, to the visuals you provide. Every word, abd every line I can vividly picture, and yes it is dark, and deep, but at the same time breath taking that a) you gathered this from the few facts provided and b) you were able to tell a story with a level of beauty that I find in published novels. You do a wonderdul job on your videos! Please keep up the outstanding work!
I’ve moved on from skull kid for smash, now it’s impa for smash
huh?
I support this movement 👏👏
Okay, this is epic
Holy crap this was super intense to watch! Incredibly well edited and structured. Might be one of your best works yet dude! Looking forward to future episodes!
I have a very very good imagination, so as you described everything I could see the battlefield, I could see the cannon fire, I could see enemy marching forward, I could see stray bolts of energy. And it was like a movie.
(Standing ovation). Well done. This is a masterpiece. I can't imagine how much time and effort went into making this, but it turned out spectacularly.
8:16 "So it begins"
i can't believe you threw in a LotR: TT reference xD
Emi The Ninja I totally believe it, I always thought Zeltik’s title music sounds like the music we hear upon entering Rohan in LOTR
Honestly I was perfectly content with just the in depth explanation of Akkala Citadel's impregnability. Great video!
More of those please! About the lost woods across the games maybe?
This would make for such a kick ass live action battle! If there were ever a TV series, this battle would be the climax before the game starts. The closing shot of the series could be a dying soldier watch as in the distance Zelda is awaken. You don't even need to see the main heroes except for the races and the King. Ugh this has the makings of being epic.
Wow, what an interesting and in-depth video! I never really thought that this area would have a whole lot of significance to the story. When I encountered the citadel, I never really thought too much about it. I pretty much scaled the tower and then left. It's really great how thoughtful you were when making this video, and I must say I can't wait for the next episode in the series!
I just started replaying BotW and got to the citadel. I remembered this video and have begun paying attention to the world around me. It’s crazy the amount of detail in the world. There are a handful of burn marks on the southern face from guardian beam, and rusted weapons litter the fortress.
Man, I knew this story already but you really brought it to life for me, great video
This video was amazing! the concept is very cool and the story is interesting and sad. i really wish there were cutscenes in the game where you could watch stuff like this happen.
Great analysis, you took the game's lore in an interesting way. Framing is elegant and imersive. Hype for next one !
This video aged very well. With the addition of Hyrule warriors it proved this was literally spot on
This feels like a history class video, and thats not a bad thing!
The presence of malice could indicate that Ganon (or a blight) was part of the battle, I wonder. Thank you for this video, I've been very cynical about BotW recently so it's nice to have something which pulls me back to the feelings I had during my first playthrough. I really wish there was more lore in the game though, one of my favourite moments was finding the different diaries in hyrule castle and reading about what the characters were up to. Seeing diaries of soldiers and citizens left around the world would have been amazing
It seems like Malice is just water inflected with the Calamity though
@@captainalbert2143 Do you have a source for that or is it just an educated guess? It would be a shame if that was the case, I always assumed it was some sort of residue that Ganon (or one of his blights) left behind, since they seem to be made of the stuff
@@Keanine it can say that on the loading screen
@@captainalbert2143 Ah I've found it, thank you! "Poisonous bogs formed by water that was sullied during the Great Calamity. Coming into contact with one will hurt you."
Hm, to be fair in order for it to be sullied by the calamity the water would probably have to make contact with Ganon/blights, so I don't think my theory is out of the possibility
@@Keanine I actually have the same impression, and I came up to the same conclusion after watching this video. There are very few spots through hyrule with malice that are not current locations for ganon/blights.
It's so hard to believe that we'll finally be witnessing this battle first hand in Age of Calamity!
Didn't know I needed this in my life. The quality of this video is stunning.
Man, this video felt a lot like the content VaatiVidya makes about Dark Souls and I love it, keep Links to the Past going!
Imagine in Breath of The Wild 2 you get a secret key or passage to the interior of the fortress, and there's is a whole dungeon there with more traditional weapons and of course more story about the battles that happened there. It would be a great way to expand the already huge history of Hyrule and get the traditional dungeons back.
We kinda get that in age of calamity which gives us a good idea on the inside but ya that would be really cool, shame it didn't happened
Dude, this gave me chills. Can’t wait to see more!!!
Excellent idea for a series, and one I'll be following closely. Great video, man!
Zelink, you forgot something. Near the Akkala Bridge, there is a NPC fighting a Moblin. When you defeat him, he tells you that he's here to pay respects, since he found out that his grandfather participated in the battle. So he's the last one who has the blood of a soldier who participated...
Very well researched and presented. Well done as always, zeltik 😁
Your profile picture matches your comment and i love it.
Lol thank you very much!
For a theory.... what if ganondorf body is under the citadel and the guardians were otw to try and free him
I'd love to hear more about Fort Hateno, and what led up to Links defeat
Absolutely fantastic video Zeltik. Cannot wait for more in this series!
I just felt like I watched a history lesson and actually enjoyed it
This video proves that Nintendo could have very well given breath of the wild a better story than we got. I love breath of the wild dont get me wrong but I would have loved to see more locations used for the story.
@Joseph Rowlinson, except that would've made no sense due to distance and the path they took.
I can't stop thinking how much better that game would have been if it was set before and during calamity ganon awakening
The whole point of the game it’s about freedom and that means they didn’t want you to stick a storyline so rigid that you could lose the choice to do whatever you want. They want you to explore the world to find out what happened only if you want to. The whole land of Hyrule has a story to tell if you’re curious enough and take your time to put the pieces together and figure it out. This makes sense with the narrative they try to use (you lost your memory and don’t know anything, it’s been 100 years and just a few knows what happened then) and the key to gameplay itself (again, freedom, and they want you to explore and follow your own path).
This was all in the game you stupid idiot. Just because you were to lazy to do anything but watch the memories does not make BOTW have a bad story.
age of calamity's gonna cover this story
I hear that Ikana Castle theme in the background there. Perfect choice.
Great job on the video! I've been subscribed for a couple years now, and your videos keep improving. Keep it up!
Is there any explanation on why are there four gigantic whale-like creature skeletons across Hyrule in BOTW? Specially the one inside a mountain :/
Iñaki H. You mean the leviathans?
There's actually a sidequest about them! Go to Serene Stable (just north of Hyrule Castle and south of the huge chasm that separates Central Hyrule from Hebra). There are three brothers there who are debating on the topic and they give you a quest. If you complete it, in addition to the prize they each tell you their theory about the leviathans.
Yeah! I remember that quest though I didn't really felt that satisfied when knowing their theories 😌.
I was thinking there could be an explanation besides what those explorers tell you 😬.
@@muzgash97 I've seen a few videos on the topic. There's one I don't remember the channel but they identified them as different guardian deities from throughout the series (I think one was theorized to be Jabujabu, and another was the sky god from Skyward Sword that you deworm and feed pumpkin soup to, I don't remember the third one). And I think it was Nintendo Black Crisis who did one relating that sidequest to the timeline, though he didn't into what they were so much as the symbolism of the debate.
All the fossils have unique identifying features. The one in eldin has a big plate on the front of his skull and 4 instead of just 2 fins (Narisha from Skyward Sword). The one in the gerudo desert has small wings on his back (Windfish from Links awakening). The one in hebra just looks like a regular real world whale (probably the ocean king from Phantom Hourglass)
This is actually realy cool, next you should do for hateno
Wow, great editing dude, music came in perfect timing, smooth transitions, using the guard armor for flash backs, such a great video, good job!
This area stood out so much. I went to Akkala as one of the final areas, delsite the game guiding me there. I was awestruck at the citadel and it made me wish get was some in game lore behind it, like a memory to find or a soldiers diary. Nice video.
I'm wondering, Zeltik, were you inspired by Oxhorn for this? It kinda seems like it from the pictures on the thumbnail to the writing to the name.
