    I end up with 4o stitches is that right? I do the 9 set up's then the rs repeast., when doing the wr repeat my last 8 stitches end being purl 2 knit 1... then knit the last 5 stitches vs how she show purl 2 knit the last 5.. anyone know if you should always have 39??

    Hello, I do really love this shawl and I would like to make more but I still have the questions about the noticeable slant that occurs on each end the 3 times I knitted it. Also the shawl turned out this way for another very experienced knitter I shared the pattern with. She says just don't make it anymore but I think the shawl looks very classy and would like to learn how not to make it without being slanted on the ends? Is this how it is supposed to look or what?

    • @Lexxie45
      @Lexxie45 2 года назад +1

      I've noticed the slant too. I tried 3 different ways of knitting. English and 2 continental ways 1 with knitting into the front of the stitch and one with knitting into the back of the stitch and all 3 turned out exactly the same way, slanting. So I guess she didn't mention this or show this very clearly in the video. Also, the pattern calls for 4 skeins of Lion Brand Hometown yarn. Using this yarn and US size 17 knitting needles, the piece came out less than half the size of what is shown here. I think they made a mistake on the pattern. You need at least 3 times that much yarn for this shawl. I'm going to use a different yarn, one that I have plenty of and will use the Hometown for a hat and cowl instead.

    How many stitches are cast on? What is the multiplayer? Thank you

    • @pamelaa2293
      @pamelaa2293 5 лет назад

      watching her do this sample she has 24 stiches on the needle., but the pattern calls for an odd number of cast on.. which I do not understand.. and her pattern says knit the first 9 rows., so all this is so very confusing., so her multiplayer???

  • @lisavitale8410
    @lisavitale8410 7 лет назад +3

    Wow, cool pattern!! I want to make this shawl after watching your video. It looks fun and easy shawl to make. I do have a quick question though about the Size 17 US circular knitting needles.... The pattern does not state the length the circular knitting needles need to be for this pattern... Online, I'm seeing 10 inches to 47 inches for US Size 17 circular knitting needles. So, which length do I purchase? Thank you!

    • @Allfreeknittingplus
      @Allfreeknittingplus  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Lisa,
      You need to make sure your needles are long enough to hold your shawl as you're working, so I would go for circular knitting needles or something that will hold 39 stitches. :)

    • @lisavitale8410
      @lisavitale8410 7 лет назад

      Thank you!! I have begun knitting this shawl with US 17 circular knitting needles. So far I've knitted 9 inches and look forward to finishing this fun project. Happy knitting!!

    Mary Beth, I made two of these beautiful shawls, but for some reason the ends turnout crooked meaning there is a very noticeble slant! What am I doing wrong?

  • @marlenebaksh234

    Would like to know how many stitches u need? Can i also have written instructions, very beautiful pattern!

  • @RC-dz1ej
    @RC-dz1ej 7 лет назад

    Also just want to mention that the "slants " I mentioned go in the opposite direction..Am I knitting too tight or releasing more yarn from one needle than the other?? It seems like the answer should be obvious but I don't get it..also I made a third Shawl of this pattern and implemented a stretchy cast on and cast off which helped a lot.But still I got the "Slant" on the end of Shawl which was the beginning...Do I need to loosen my stitches significantly?I am pretty much a beginner. I had made a few simple afghans before but this is my first ever "wearable " project...I just want them to hang nicely.

      but on same site there is another shawl w/ same name but different yarn and smaller needles. i'm still going to try this pattern though so hope it still works w/ size 11 needles and the heart soft yarn

      Suzanne King as i calculated she casted on k5+pattern st14+ k5 so total of 24 sts. But as she says its just a sample. But in the written pattern she wrote 39 sts for the shawl width.
      Thanks

    Can I do this pattern with 29 CO stitches instead of 39? I want a wide scarf, rather than a shawl..

    • @katehocking2665
      @katehocking2665 7 лет назад +1

      Did you end up being able to do this? I want a wide scarf also so I'm wondering if the 29 stitches worked.

    • @lovemrj4ever
      @lovemrj4ever 6 лет назад +2

      Sarah Thomson Sarah, the pattern is in stitch multiples of 3 + 2, so any number divisible by 3 would work. Add 2 sts to your total number (not counting the 10 border stitches) to arrive at a cast-on number.
      In your case, you should cast on a total of 30 sts (6 x 3 = 18 Plus 2 sts.= 20 pattern sts + 10 border sts for total of 30 sts.)
      I know you posted your comment 8 months ago and have probably received an answer by now.
      Happy knitting!
