I have been desperately searching for an old recipe for just simply "German buttermilk bread" haven t made it in 20yrs or so, but i made it every year for Xmas till he families started with the new bread machine. Now everybody;s wanted me to make it again. Yours comes pretty close to what i remember. I'll let ya know how it turns out. Thanks for your video. Very informing.
I found your video about a year ago and this has become my family’s favorite bread! I keep it stocked in the freezer. I make some tweaks at times to create variations. I’ve incorporated sourdough starter and an overnight refrigerated fermentation and it’s delicious too. Per my daughter’s request, I roll the dough in a spiral with a filling of cinnamon and sugar. For my husband, I add extra honey and jalapeño slices. Thanks for this wonderful recipe! The original is still my favorite
Hi Dennis, I have just finished making bread from this recipe and the bread came out really well. Sometimes I don't always have the same success here in Thailand. I wanted to suggest something for you and your viewers. I came across a video on how to make your own cultured butter from cream. Here in Thailand, we can make it, and actually save some money, as good butter can be expensive. The real value in cultured butter is two-fold. The butter tastes better, and there little or no water, and I use the buttermilk that is left over to bake my bread and other things such as pancakes, muffins, etc. I always enjoy your videos, thanks for all that you do! Blessings from Thailand
I wish you'd shown at least a little bit of adding the flour. It helps to see what the dough looks like as it is being worked in the bowl, especially the "pulling away from the sides, but sticking to the bottom" part.
Hi Dennis been awhile since I have seen any of your videos Did enjoy this one love making bread going to make this have to do this by hand my kitchen Aid is much to small to handle this recipe I have used goats milk, in some of my breads especially when the milk gets little off taste save it for bread
First time watching. You ever used goat milk (buttermilk) and cream? Definitely raises the standard for buttermilk bread. Moist, tender, super tasty. Even when processed for sour dough bread.
I don't knead that much (lol, sorry) so I will reduce your inputs by 1/2. But I'm definitely making it this weekend. Does it store well in the freezer?
Sorry Jacki. I have heard of RUclips "cleaning out" subscriptions from time to time. Sometimes they remove inactive accounts, but I have heard of legitimate accounts being removed. No one seems to have an explanation. I hope you didn't miss too much. In any case, welcome back.-Dennis
Dennis, I'm making your buttermilk honey bread. Your online recipe says baking powder and further down in the recipe says baking soda. So do follow the recipe or your paragraph in the heading?
Please accept my apologies for that error Elaine. The recipe is correct. It's baking soda. I corrected the pages and the PDF on my web site. Thank you for bringing this error to my attention. I hope you enjoy the bread. -Dennis
Loved your reaction to the first bite: "Yeah".
Found your channel this morning and made this bread. Turned out awesome! I cut the recipe in half and still got 2 perfect sized loaves.
Wish I could reach through my computer and grab a roll and butter it. Yummy!

Amazing
nice work dennis!
i think the buttermilk activates the baking soda and helps the bread rise and be fluffy...yummy
Beware of the Muffin Man, the Muffin Man!
I wonder how one would increase the sourness if desired.
Can I use this recipe for cinnamon rolls?
I haven't tried it, but I'm confident it would be delicious. -Dennis
Thank you for responding:) I'll let you know how they turn out :)
