  • How to help your dog understand the masks that we wear for Corona Virus Protection during Covid19.
    In this video I offer a few simple tips to help you teach your dog to accept the masks that we are wearing to protect ourselves. Dogs can be confused by them and may act suspiciously. Take your time and go slow teaching your dog. Even though people are keeping their distance (or at least they are supposed to), in some areas of the country wearing a mask is mandatory. If your dog is suspicious of people wearing masks, including people in your household, this video should help you acclimate your dog to the process.

    My Malinois freaked out and ran out his dog door when I put on a different pair of spectacles. He peeped back in at me and did a double take... lol. I will definitely desensitize him to face covering. Thank you!

    It's strange, some dogs react over this. Mine, didn't even care, it was so automatically accepted. He sees every time I put it in, I see he sees me with detailing eyes. I smile, call, play, and he focuses on my eyes more than the mask. I'm glad there are techniques for this. Other dogs have many issues, glad you did it Robert!

    Living in a place where it gets cold my dogs are already used to me in a balaclava. They didnt react at all to the mask. But it is interesting how little things we don't think about can sometimes throw our dogs for a loop, it is good to not make assumptions

    My Malinois is always suspicious of men with beards and ball caps. I’ve noticed since everyone’s wearing masks it’s been getting his attention and on point, especially men wearing ball caps. I’ve just been telling him “it’s okay” and “leave it “ frequently and he’s starting to relax and relax with the evil eye.

    Very important Robert. Our Nurses are so short of essential PPE here in the UK that we have no chance of being told to wear them. Well explained though, thank you : )

    Pretty soon Mr Cabral will need to make a video showing how to condition your dog to deal with you after the vaccine ie, when you're paralysed, brain dead or bed ridden from toxins injected into you.

      @wowalinbie
      Haha, wearing a mask still identifies sick people, it's just proof of mental illness now.

    • @steely1neverwane

      @wowalinbie
      Righto, well I've taught my pup to bark on command, so once you've achieved that then it's a matter of conditioning the pup to "fire up" in reaction to masks.
      All the best mate.

    My 3 year old dog who has always had a laid back personality has begun to bark at every little noise he hears outside since we've gotten this new puppy who is about one year old. The younger dog does not seem to react to the noises. Do you think my dog is trying to protect him? How do I get him to stop barking?

    Sir what is the perfect time to train your puppy? Before or after eating a meal? And what is the first thing to teach your puppy? Come, sit , down, stay or stand? I’ve been watching always your video sir

    • @nicolesnyder4893
      @nicolesnyder4893 4 года назад

      First thing I personally you should teach first is come. Any age use a drag line and GENTLY reel your pup in then treat!! Recall is, in my opinion, is the most important.

    Wearing a mask was also a great way to upgrade the training, where the dog can't really read my lips and needs to only listen to my voice.

    Dog recognise anyone with your smell.

    • @dogsfromthecity
      @dogsfromthecity 4 года назад +3

      The dog can recognize by smell, but they also go into conflict when the smell and the picture they see doesn't match. There are many tests of some dogs that would bark at their own owners when they would hide their heads with a bucket or paperbag. Some dogs that are less reactive would sniff and recognize their owners. And other would immediately freak out at the sight of the 'stranger'.
      Many dogs react first and ask questions later.
