Hey Robert, at 1:55 you say sit, and after just a FEW SECONDS, the dog is back up again on his on and you do NOTHING to correct it. Why is that I wonder?!?! If anyone watches the entire video, this is not the only moment in which the duration is ZERO. I'm not impressed. I tell my dogs down. They will be there for 2-3 hours.... or they may be there for 5-6 hours. They may get up and stretch or spin once or twice during that duration. I can leave the room and go to the bathroom or to the kitchen to get something to drink and the will NOT leave their position. There is NO comparison in how your dog is acting in this video and what you excuse and pretend is perfect behavior when it is far from it. Again.... not at ALL impressed.
As a professional trainer I love watching Robert work. There are so many misguided trainers out there and Robert obviously teaches out of experience not ideology.
The single most impressive take away on this video is the total, undivided attention and focus your dog has on you, and the enthusiasm he has to work with you. How do you get to that level?
The dog has regular training and it LOVES the challenge and stimulation. Robert provides it so the dog is eager to do the next lesson. Working dogs exhibit this behavior a lot more intensely.
Find a treat that will drive him crazy, use his nose to come to you. If he cant resist the treat he'll associate that treat with you. And then you can maintain that attention when connecting with command lesson.
I tell my dog to come and he would but only so far infront, the minute I stepped back and said the same thing he sat right right infront of me, this was the first time I did it, amazing, thankyou x

We got our German Shepherd puppy about 2 weeks ago, he's three months old besides potty training, we taught him to sit, stay, we are working on down but he does really good from a down position to a sitting position he's a really smart puppy. I watch a lot of these videos to get ideas, so thank you for posting... I almost forgot he can also shake when we asked for his paw. All positive reinforcement Love it!!!
Brooo I have a Siberian Husky and I hated how stubborn she is with this situation! After watching this it all made sense and easier to train! This Guy is a Legend
Been looking at probably 20 videos of recall training and this one is the best. We've "trained" our 1 yo boxer recall and he does great 90% of the time, but when he doesn't want to, he won't. Especially when the neighbor's dog is out or there's some kind of smell at the back of the yard. Then forget it. He recalls when he wants. We'll go to him to leash him up and he thinks it's a game and will run. We've got a half acre yard.
@@alondraworld1385 the usual way people would. Wave the treat around to get dogs attention while marking the word "come". When she came running I rewarded and said yes, reinforced positively. If your dog is too distracted then I'd try it in a less stimulating place, maybe inside your home instead of a park. If the treat doesn't work then maybe a toy would work better. Running away from your dog will almost always result in them chasing after you aswell. Hope some of this helped but go watch one of Roberts other videos on recalls, then one if more about making the recall sharper.
My heart skipped a beat at 2:49 when Robert says "sit" off-hand and Goofy sits like it's a command. "When I come I'm told to sit" and Goofy sits on his own.
Having a little guy, who we think is a Min Pin/Chihuahua mix that wants to make himself an extension of me, has made it far easier to train a close come than any other dog I’ve had 😂 We’ve only had large breeds before. But we’ve had this guy for only 54 days now and he’s already sitting at “come” without the sit command now, and right at my feet. Also taken to loose leash walk-in after only a bit of leash training and even immediately sitting whenever we stop on walks. It’s been really impressive. But I also started training hand feeding using his puppy kibble instead of feeding him meals out of a bowl, so he’s plenty hungry whne we start training. That’s the surest way I’ve found to get a dog to become food motivated who wouldn’t ordinarily be, especially if he’s not very food/treat motivated after getting a bowl of food. Now we’re up to a 1/3 of his daily allowance at breakfast and 1/3 at dinner, and using the final 1/3 for small training spurts throughout the day. He’s been a phenomenal listener for the most part, but he is only a 6 month old puppy who we’ve not had for a whole two months yet.
I'm glad you said it. With distraction food doesn't work for my puppy. I have considered having her miss out on some food to test her getting distracted by other dogs.

but when you have treats you should want to not give one to him every single time - that is fading out the treats. And also you would want him to not know whether you have some or not : when you recall from afar, he won't remember you have none if he won't see your bag in front of your hip even if you have it with you so you keep the treatbag on your back area not in front or side of your leg. @@gaborsvagrik4754 yes. You teach the command through motivation, by being more interesting than distractions. We use the ECollar and prong collar to correct. If your dog makes not mistakes , he needs no corrections . If you need corrections you can choose what tool to use.
@@RobertCabralDogs Thank you Robert. I am learning hence my questions. I was told that the dog should work for me and with me. Not work for cookie or toy. That is why I am scratching my head at seeing every video with treats and toys. I’ve asked some other dog trainers, and they say they use treats first and eventually the dog just does it. But I know for a fact that the dog will figure out sooner or later that you do not have a treat. What happens then when the bunny runs and you have no treat or E collar just your voice. Wonder how the sheep herders have done it for thousands of years. I hope I’m not taking much of your time. I really appreciate your comment.

great Video thanks!
I really appreciate your videos! We taught our dog to sit when he came because he kept running into us. What do you recommend doing in that case?
Amazing!
I have a border collie who doesn't have s toy drive which is strange for a border collie so treats are my main option anyway 😄
I want my dog to be like your dog!
Love your videos, thanks a lot for The profesional dog training information. I don't have a job right now and for coronaVirus issues i'm not sure when i Will havet 😅... I'm from chile and here we don't have any economic help, but when i found a job Will become a memeber and get acces to all your videos! Thanks again, and sorry for my English 😋
Thank you for that. Wishing you good health.
God bless you your English is fine!!
Sir ,I have one question, are same training apply to all, like I am getting miniature Pinscher dog,to my family,I am from India.plz suggest me
Yes
How far from ones body should that sit be.
Some of the sports clips I've watch - dog is making physial contact with handler .
Should be as close as possible without touching.
Robert, my dog loves to play ball.. but sometimes he often bites or chews the tip of the rope rather than the ball.. can you give me any tips to stop that from happening?
What about a video on your daily routine with your GSD?
i realise while watching this video how terrible iam as a master
my dog helped me through my depression but i feel like i havent trained him properly
outside most of the time hes on leash cause when i release him he doesnt listen to recalls (i only put out the leash the night when it's like 10PM cause of that)
and even tho i know he won't bite anybody etc some people are afraid (even tho it's a golden retriever)
i wish i still can teach him that kind of thing (no matter how long it takes) even tho he's already 6 ...
Is there a way to teach come with out food, toy or e collar?
Be very very interesting. More interesting than distractions.
I am sorry, but I do not understand your answer. My original question was is it possible to teach the dog the come command without treat toy or e collar.
@@RobertCabralDogs Robert not sure if you saw my post above. Just wanted your personal professional opinion on my questions. Thanks
Sir I love you thank you sir 🙏
Great video, thanks
How long/far should I walk my malinois puppy each day? We're getting him next week when he's 8 weeks old. I plan on playing tug with him too, but I'm not too sure about walking...How old should he be to start running or hiking? How far could he hike?
Hi Robert, my 2.5 month old Pomeranian doesn't come when recalled...she only comes when I'm holding treat in my hands...without treat she doesn't do anything (heel, come, down, down)...can you help me regarding this??
Q: my dog comes when called. But when he's playing with other dogs it's very hard to get his attention and make him come. What should I do?
Ummm...my foster is too tall to go between my legs. How do I deal in that case? I am desiring to work on her recall.
