To my mom, Bohrok-kal was synonymous with all Bionicles. Anytime she saw me playing with Bionicles, from 2003 to 2008 she would ask me if I was building a Bohrok-kal.
I like to think that the design of these sets went something like this: Lego Executives: Wow these Bionicle sets are selling so well! We need to make more of these! Bionicle Team: But the new sets and story aren't ready yet. Lego Executives: Well we need to release something. Why don't you guys just reuse an old design? Bionicle Team: Okay, the Bohrok were pretty popular, right? We'll just paint them silver, give them new shields, and add Kal to there names.
To this day the Kal are my favorite villains. Sure, their character wasn't that amazing, but the fact that they just ran around Mata Nui and kicked all the Toa Nuva's shit in really appeals to me.
To be fair, the bohrok/ Bohrok-Kal are technically nothing more than mechs. The Krana are alive but the bohroks are just their suits of armor, so the silver doesnt sound bad for the kal.
I like how the Krana don't match the Bohrok for a simple reason. The Krana are _seperate beings_. They're not supposed to match, as that would make them seem like they're part of the build and not a seperate creature controlling the armor (which is what the Krana are).
I have to disagree on the silver. Thats the only reason I had to have buy what was otherwise a full clone set - the metal silver makes anything look cooler in my opinion.
Grey plastic was the worst color to use for those weapons. All of them should have been in shiny silver color or in their elemental color. Grey plastic looks even more plastic than the usual plastic.
Those "holes" aren't the eyes (obviously). They were built into it to get it to snap in place with the krana holder. They are supposed to be completely ignored as appearance goes, just to help the function.
Honestly, it doesn't bug me so much that the Bohrok-Kal are clone sets. To me, they have their own unique charm when compared to their regular Bohrok cousins. Fun fact, Lehvak-Kal was the first Bionicle I ever had.
I'll be honest, the holes in the headplate always drove me a bit crazy as well - I could never see them as anything other than eyes, try as I might. I see no problem with the Krana-Kal colors, though, let alone the eyes and teeth.
As soon as he told me to skip so I won't have the idea planted in my head, I put 2 and 2 together and it was too late, I knew what he was going to say.
Lol, when I was younger I always thought that the holes in the faceplates were the eyes. It wasn't until Eljay started talking about eye color that I realized that was wrong.
Hmm, concerning the eye color, I don't find them to be a problem. Gahlok's blue and orange, Lehvak's green and red, and, to an extent, Pahrak's brown and dark green or complimentary on the color wheel. With Nuhvok's light green reminds of something you'd see with night vision, which is pretty perfect considering his color is black as the night (hehe). If anything, I consider Tahnok to be the black sheep. I'm not against its use of blue, but I think it's the least appropriate. Kohrak is just perfect.
You're back! Nice to see some more reviews. I only had Lehvak-Kal from this group. I remember I lost its leg for some reason. And about the faceplate holes... I've always seen those as the eyes. It's been a decade, and I still can't convince myself otherwise. It's maddening.
What I think those holes in the shells are is that those are the nose of the Bohrok since the Krana do breath, and it has a cool function as well, if you sumerge them underwater it’ll look as if they’re definitely diving.
With the whole Tahnak Kal and Pahrak Kal's face shield being the same, yours is just a misprint. I have both my Tahnok Kal face shield and Pahrak Kal face shield in front of me as I'm typing this, and mine are totally different.
I miss these things. I only had Kohrak Kal and Gahlok Kal for the reason that "you already have those im not buying more" parent mentality but, seeing these things really brings back memories to my childhood aha.
Yay Gahlok Kal was actually my second Bionicle set cause I got Hafu before but its also my only Bohrok and I still love it eventhough nowadays I focus on Tiny Turbos :D
I didn't really play with the action features on my other bionicles much as a kid. The borok however I really enjoyed hitting things with the head of. I enjoyed the build very much due to it being very different, never felt a need to have a second one though.
Can’t believe what I’m seeing: Bohrok for Biomechanical Operations Hydraulic Recyclers and Omni-directional Kick-balls, and Bohrok-kal for Biomechanical Operations Hydraulic Recyclers and Omni-directional Kick-balls Kalling All Lawyers XDDDDD
Back in the day, I was very hyped for these six. Unfortunately, I never got Kohrak Kal, so the collection is not complete. Still though, these are always cool!
I find them way too similar to the original Bohrok. Back when I was obsessed with Bionicle, I thought that these guys were cool but, now, I think it was silly to get even one of the Bohrok-Kal.
7:30- I know, right?! It's like my life was a lie when I found out what the eyes really were on these sets- although I only owned the original Kohrak myself.
The way I see the secondary pair of eyes is that the glowing eyes are what the Krana Look through most of the time on the screen built into the Bohrok However the secondary pair of eyes is in case they lose power that way the Krana can still see possible threats/Allies
i can just imagine the swarms doing their thing while the kal act as the bodyguards for the queens, only to have to fight the toa and almost beat the toa

***** Wow! That is alot. I have seen on ebay that there always seem to be a problem with bohrok, either missing krana or something like that. So much silver...
Wait until the 2008 reviews. Heh heh heh...
Eljay, the holes are a necessary component of the piece that allows them to lock in with that click. They are not eyes.
the only thing that made the Borok Kal worth existing was that in their story, their powers were amazing and that they managed to disable the Kanohi
they almost won, except for the toa giving them more power than they could handle, some very graphic deaths in the comic.
They were also just cool looking sets to have.
I like how the Krana don't match the Bohrok for a simple reason. The Krana are _seperate beings_. They're not supposed to match, as that would make them seem like they're part of the build and not a seperate creature controlling the armor (which is what the Krana are).

Fun fact: The Bohrok-Kal are supposed to have fought the Exo-Toa.
The bohrok are basically exo krana

Eh, Gahlok-Kal pretty much carried the Kal in that fight with its magnetism powers.

I think Kal in Bohrok-Kal should stand for Kills All Lameness.
Or Kills All Life
Kitkats are legendary.
Or kills all lemons
I just love the bohrok. They look cute in my opinion even thow they are rolling ball monsters.
Tho holes look like vents for oxygen for the krana (maybe?)
I've always looked at them like they were the eyes. But now I think it'd be rather suitable or them not to have eyes at all.
XD yea I never saw that. Now I got that stuck in my head.
Nuhvok-Kal was my first ever Bionicle and proper Lego set. I have a soft nostalgic spot for these guys.
And they totally ARE eyes.
I miss these things. I only had Kohrak Kal and Gahlok Kal for the reason that "you already have those im not buying more" parent mentality but, seeing these things really brings back memories to my childhood aha.

The gahlok kal shield is used so many times that I forget that it was originally from the gahlok Kal.

Yeah, they used it a lot. Actually Tahnok Kal's shield piece is the only Bohrok shield that wasn't used in another set.
R.I.P.

I personally think that the bohrak kal should've been introduced later in the story, like in the ignition saga.

The Bohrok are such a solid build, I do not mind that they were recycled in Kal form.
The brown one was the first one I got, and the first "bad guy" set I got for a Bionicle. The first ever Bionicle I got was Gali Nuva.
For their recycled aspect doesn't really matter. When I buy I'm thinking s out their involvement with the story. And these guys do a quite a bit.
I recently bought one for 12 dollars on ebay. (I never had a normal one, so that's why I got it) I like them, and the silver, for me at least, I love shiny
