This sketch should be studied by every actor. It isn't Barker's feed lines that are funny but Corbett's timing. It's absolutely masterful, he stretches the reaction just long enough until each new punchline.
Agree. Brilliant though Barker is, Corbett des all the work here. Similar to the Laurel and Hardy 'Trail of the Lonesome Pine' thing - Stan gets all the laugh-lines, but Ollie does most of the work.
This sketch will never grow old. It doesn't matter how many times I have watched it, it makes me laugh just as much every time. They both play an equally important roll in it. Just look at Ronnie Corbett's reactions and his muttering to himself. He reminds me of Charlie Hall - Laurel & Hardy's nemesis in so many of their films, and of course Ronnie Barker was a huge L & H fan. Outstanding comedy sketch. Brilliant writing. Ronnie Barker was excellent. I remember men who were just like him. No social grace and yet they were often very kind. Completely harmless with good humour. His clothes were just so appropriate. Love his old shrunken jumper with it's holes in the elbows🤣.
i know every word to this and despite how many times you watch it you still LOL - simply genius.
national treasures, and yes hardware shops like this did exist
They still sell tins of peas?...
There's one in South Molton in Devon which is very similar, I miss how hardware shops used to be
having worked in a D.I.Y store years ago I can totally relate to this because tradesmen have different names for stuff so this does make me chuckle.
For the very last time. Goodnight and R.I.P. Ronnie Corbett. xx :(
Such an iconic sketch, two truly gifted people who knew how to provoke your inner self. Nothing like this be made again, innocent fun now is what? Thanks for reminding me what true comedy is about, with no agenda. Classic.
On a sidenote, that shop seems to have a lot of stuff.
Jolly nice shop, eh what.
indeed lol
old shops were like that lol
You could say that it was a, Wall Mart. XD
Never carry any tips for me saws, though.
No amazon back in those days ;)
No matter how hard I try decades on I still can't help but laugh at this classic comedy
This never gets old
"Oh 'ose! I fought you meant 'oes!"

TurmutHoer 😂😂😂
Kamen Rider OOO
The best sketch ever by a country mile absolute class xx
Heard about this in a comment on a Rhod Gilbert stand-up vid. I'm not British...I'm a little hearing impaired...& the auto CC is really giving this an extra dimension lol
Glad I came looking!!!
thanks for the laughs ronnies. this one is an absolute classic.
This was hilarious at the time and still stands up to any scrutiny today. It's gone down in comedy legend and rightly so.
I saw a Christmas Card that said 'four candles' in a local charity shop the other day: as soon as I saw it, I heard this sketch in my head. Lol
i 've lost count of the number of times i' ve watched this through. Each actually seems to get BETTER each time.
CANNOT believe 468 people did not like this, what the hell is wrong with these people.
Gee Terence, they are the Woke generation the future is bright your country is in safe hands.
What a treat to see this again! Always my favourite Ronnies’ sketch.
Outstanding sketch...one of the very best comedy skits.Laugh every time.
Best comedy sketch ever written. I have watched it countless times and it always makes me laugh and with affection for Britains greatest comedy duo.
I've watched the video several times. Since English is not my native language, I couldn't understand most of it. Even with auto-translation turned on, it didn't quite make sense. I only understood the beginning part about 'four candles and fork handles' and laughed a lot. I couldn't understand the rest. If you could write it down in English, I'd appreciate it.

Kolkata, India.
No...not even in the top 500.
This isn't even anywhere near their best one which is Dr D3ath and many others better than this, such as name-droppers and British rail efficiency and so on.

Many thanks for giving us this classic comedy from the Two Ronnies
My pleasure - I'll be checking my old VHS for more.
I have seen this sketch so many times and it still makes me laugh 😂😂 They both play their parts so well.
