I witnessed this being filmed and saw Dick Emery or Roy Kenear, I was a child with my class mates going for our weekly swimming lessons. The location for this was Staines swimming baths, Surrey (You can just see a glimpse of the Councils badge on the building). I recall seeing a coach similar to the one that had brought us to the pool that was full from one end to the other of costumes, it was a mobile wardrobe. I have not seen this sketch since it was first broadcast in the 1970's.

Nice humorous twists here, like the nervous man at the beginning turning out to be the driving examiner, and the woman thinking her feminine charms can get her through the test, only to find the examiner is a homosexual. The actor sitting beside Dick Emery on the outdoor seat at the start of the sketch was on a UK public information film about driving in rain, a 1980's ad for a popular drinks mixer as a golfer, and presented an experimental variety show in 1982 on Channel 4 called 'The Cut Price comedy show'. Anyone know who he is?

True genuine comedy! I used to love watching D. E with my parents 😅. He was such a laugh. Compared to the crap these days where they just have no sense and plenty of vulgarity and swearing! I wish life was still like when we were growing up. Kids were innocent and themselves, people had respect for each other. 🌸🕋

He was indeed a character actor, in the same league as Ronnie Barker. Watching this reminded how funny and clever he was. I never heard of him being "much maligned", I always thought he was highly respected. Often when I stuff up, I say to myself "Dad.....I fink I go' i' wrong again"!

Its over 30 years since he died its about time the bbc devoted a night of TV his honour like the rest of the comedy greats. The other year the ITV did an episode of the Unforgettable series on him 20 minutes odd of tv doesn't really do him justice which is a pity as he came across as a very interesting person.

I don’t see Dick Emery as being homophobic or sexist. From what I’ve read he was a sharp observer of character and used it to great comedic effect as evidenced here. I think if the Daily Mail/Daily Express is constantly telling you that “others” are offended by this kind of comedy then eventually you’re going to believe it. But all they’re trying to do (the daily rags that is) is trying to create a bubble for their readers where they feel protected from the nasty modern world. It’s the same thing that Social Media has achieved using AI algorithms. My advice: stop reading newspapers, delete your social media accounts, start talking to real people in the real world, and enjoy a bit of old comedy on YT without being miserable about “politically correct”people or “lefties” or whoever else you think hates you for watching this. Newsflash: they don’t care.

The young have no idea what pathological tension the world of PC has created. People joke about PC but it's a kind of social evil really. It's poisoned us all. RIP dear old Dick. 😢

Used go swimming there every week when I was a kid and recognised the buildings straightaway when I saw it on TV. Dick also lived 15mins from my town in Weybridge, not far from Staines. A very popular resident at the time. Classic TV memories!

. I am 5ft9 and 3/4 inches tall barefoot, high hipped and my legs are the same length as moira's were, in 3 inch heels I am almost 6ft0 in depending if they are a platform shoe
My mother is 5ft9 barefoot and she has very long legs also.
Moira next to Gordon Kaye in Allo Allo looked around 5ft11 to me in low heeled shoes never over 6ft
      Gordon was 5ft10 .

I think the key to his comedy still working well is that the premises were simple tropes, but very well done and with good humour. He was a good comedic actor in general, and despite his characters all being over the top, they were very distinct characters and he had great talent for funny voices and expressions.
