There’s a reason for that. He actually didn’t like drag (in case people thought he actually Liked dressing as a woman - yea silly I know) and he would do that to project the image that he was actually a man in drag; not a female.
Amazing how it sticks isn't it? Someone used it in response to a text I sent them, the other day, not expecting me to "get it." But, it prompted me to look these classic sketches up. I loved the "Madam/Miss" ones too! 😉
The public would often when they spotted Dick Emery out and about, say to him "oow you are awful but I like you" then hit him on the shoulder, thinking they were the first person to be so clever.
WONDERFUL- thank you very much for posting this. Dick was fantastic and this 'punchline' was a fave for me back then as a young teen. I always used to joke, using it with my mum (God bless her, gone now) and can recall the kids at school also thinking it was the funniest thing. About 1975 I think it was. Thanks again, from Sydney, Australia.
Dick Emery was one of the greats. The smut was always tasteful, unlike so many of the modern lot, who you would be embarrassed to take your mum or kids to see. Much missed.
Fantastic comedy It seems so tame now compared with today's stuff however I have been in fits of laugher over the inuendo of Mandy and her Oh you are awful. Great stuff which should be repeated over again. :-)
British seaside postcard humour, comedy that was very special and unique,it was a part of what being British was all about at the time,it doesn't come around often anymore sadly,it would probably be labeled "politically incorrect" or something nowadays by some arse another. Anyhow,,,,"you are awful,,,,,but I like you!" Keep on smiling UK.
They missed out the best one: Interviewer: Now here comes a charming young lady. Mandy: Hello Interviewer: Tell me, are you impressed by aristocratic titles? Mandy: Oh, no. I speak my mind, no matter who I'm talking to. Interviewer: I see, you mean you wouldn't let anyone take advantage of you? Mandy: Pardon? Interviewer: I mean, you wouldn't take things lying down, even from a duke? Mandy: Ooh, you are awful...but I like you!
The ever present signature almost "tripping" in high heels. 😊 Wonderful stuff. Tripping the light fantastic. John Milton's Com, and trip it as ye go On the light fantastick toe😊
10 years later, but better late than never, heh? Oh yes she was, and there's plenty of evidence. She was Rachman's mistress and spent plenty of time with others too. Her pimp, Stephen Ward, was found guilty, in a court of law, of living off the earnings of prostitution, which he obtained from Rice-Davies, Christine Keeler and others). Her famous line, "Well, he would, wouldn't he?" was a riposte to the allegation, in court, that Lord Astor had denied having sex with her.
i was around 4 years old and in those days it was common to have your grandparents live with you and since my grandma had passed in 69 grandad lived with us and i have seem him cry at Dick Emery.
Oh Mandy. Oh Joy. Harsh.😊 But I still like you! Dick Emery. Late British Comedian. 😢 Crossed dressed for comic effect.😅😅 RIP Dick Emery. Daniel. If you please. Truth or Dare? Yes Dan Dare. What did you think I meant? 😊
You see,,..this is what we called 'innuendo'. Just like in the Carry On films. Always hinted at but leaving it to the imagination of the viewer. Something that is sadly lacking today with all the swearing and direct in-your-face sexual language by many of today's comedians. Thank goodness for DVD and places like youtube where we can relive these moments from a bygone era of classic comedy TV.
This is the sort of thing I just love, so funny. I never watch comedians today, I do not find them funny one bit, cannot stand the swearing, when you had the likes of Kenn Dodd, they have not a clue, he never did resort to swearing, he did not have to he was just hilarious, family viewing!!!
Spot on, Stringbean. Far too many 'different' things these days. A lot of the incredible charm and talent in many areas of life and people has been lost for decades now. Too sad.
@@maryrawson4324 I got up at an Open Mic night at a comedy club in London and just walked onto the stage spontaneously, because they kept me waiting too long. I had a 5 min chat with the fellow Gen Xer compere, and the Millennial audience were in fits of laughter. I wasn't even doing anything special. Just goes to show how you either are funny, or you aren't.
Mandy had style, grace and beauty. I hope she's still out there somewhere. Love her.
She is awful...but we love her.
awful you are like
A real funny man - RIP Dick Emery - always made me larf - on RADIO SUTCH 1964
The way he always manages to trip whilst walking off never fails to crack me up.
There’s a reason for that. He actually didn’t like drag (in case people thought he actually Liked dressing as a woman - yea silly I know) and he would do that to project the image that he was actually a man in drag; not a female.
@@andyrob3259 ...which made it all the funnier. He was a very clever comedian.
Never get bored of watching these clips and I still use his Mandy catchphrase all these years later :)
Amazing how it sticks isn't it? Someone used it in response to a text I sent them, the other day, not expecting me to "get it." But, it prompted me to look these classic sketches up.
I loved the "Madam/Miss" ones too! 😉

Genuinely funny. He was priceless!
This was before my time. Brilliant comedy.
The public would often when they spotted Dick Emery out and about, say to him "oow you are awful but I like you" then hit him on the shoulder, thinking they were the first person to be so clever.
Completely forgot about him. Brings back a lot of memories. Very very funny man. Those were the good old days.
I have just discovered Dick. And I must say I absolutely love it. Oh, I am awful. 😅💅🏽

The I beg your pardon? And the look of bewilderment 😂😊
"hasn't he ever asked you to drop them?"
Thanks for uploading that. I grew up with that stuff on TV. Bless you.
"Ooh, you are awful, but I like you" Mr HVAC.
If I did this nowadays nobody would get the reference and I’d end up being arrested for assault.
Comedy is truly 💀
Dick Emery was one of the greats. The smut was always tasteful, unlike so many of the modern lot, who you would be embarrassed to take your mum or kids to see. Much missed.
What a charming young lady
Great comedy, brilliant character Mandy. Ooh you are awful but I like you 🤣.
Dick Emery is a comic genius,
One word, brilliant!
Fantastic comedy It seems so tame now compared with today's stuff however I have been in fits of laugher over the inuendo of Mandy and her Oh you are awful. Great stuff which should be repeated over again. :-)
The interviewer is so good.

It's a humourless world we now live in, for sure. We now have some shite so-called comedians now.
Absolutely fkn hilarious; gosh I miss these days:(
They missed out the best one:

I always loved Mandy. When I was a kid it was the Mandy moment I waited for.
Same.. Miss this so much
has he given you one in the bunker yet !.
ha ha ha so funny, this was good tv.
RE The description. Mandy Rice-Davies liked her boyfriends and attention but she was NEVER a prostitute. It's well documented.

love the comedy trip at the end
_”Has he given you one in the bunker, yet?”_ Filth!
Lucky there was no reference to the back hole or ‘do you like playing in the rough’
In memory of Benno Wolecki from Dundee . He did a fabulous impression of Mandy Dunnit lol
Thanks so much for posting this.
Absolutely brilliant so funny
Great memories
Brilliant,Absolutely brilliant.😂😂😂
Now a pensioner, I most definitely fancy Wendy Dunnit even more!
Absouloutley timeless !
They would not 'allow' this to be made today...
Great British humour 😃👍
She had such interesting outfits.
Brilliant comedy !

I always loved Mandy.
He defo would pass a a woman like love him

Amazing xx
Why isn't there comedy like this anymore.
Funny as fuck
Genius and a very funny man in real life
Dick Emery might not be around anymore, but we still have Dick Driver who has played double bass for both Quiet World and Steve Hackett.
Legend.
Love it
The old comedy shows are the best before the PC Brigade got involved
yeh mandy got better and better as the role went on genious well missed
Utter brilliance.
Awsome😊
Brilliant 👍
Pure genius
nobody does double entendre like the english.
A blonde walked into a bar, and asked for a double entendre, so the barman gave her one!
the laugh track does distract, covers over the punch lines
I agree.
I LUURVE Mandy......lmao......
Hilarious!
thank you
Comic Genius
He mastered a feminine walk but it took time.
Oh Mandy.
Oh Joy. Harsh.😊 But I still like you!
Dick Emery. Late British Comedian. 😢 Crossed dressed for comic effect.😅😅 RIP Dick Emery.
Daniel. If you please.
Truth or Dare?
Yes Dan Dare. What did you think I meant? 😊
This would probably get canceled if it aired today and Dick Emery would be thrown in prison for hate.
Far too funny for the BBC to repeat.
Classic comedy.
Oh you are awful, but I like you *shove*
Could this be done today without pissing off social media? Hmmm.
probably not cos it's awful but I like it lolz
Only the idiotic professionally offended would complain.

Really talented! Miss humour like this, very quick one liners.. The kids now would not get this type of comedy......more the pity!
Absolutely

Amazingly there are ladies with very strong jaws who look quite masculine.
