BRILLIANT!! A true family entertainer, I loved watching this as a child and our parents took us to a live show in August 76 or 77 at Great Yarmouth. My Dad was late back from the Bar at the interval, Dick stopped the show and had the spotlight put on my Dad all the way back to his seat, followed by a few comedic comments. A priceless memory as my Dad died in Dec 1977.
Dick was an absolute maestro of his craft. An absolute comedic genius. It always intrigues - and enthuses me - how amazingly straight men play gay roles.
Evidence, if it were needed, that we in Britain no longer live in a free society. We're no longer permitted to laugh at ourselves, due to the despicable BBC and other media organisations, and their invasive thought police. Thank goodness for precious clips like these and golden dvd box sets.
Back in the 90s I was playing in Harry's New York Bar, the pianist was finishing off the gig and I was taking over for the next month. She was Eliza, and, asked her full name, she was Eliza Emery, Dick Emery's daughter, I was so happy to shake her hand. I send her my best tonight wherever she is!!!!!
paddy9i99 BETTER THAN THAT CRAPPY MORECAMBE AND WISE AND MONTY PYTHON WHICH EVERYONE GOES ON ABOUT, LITTLE AND LARGE MY FAVOURITE COMEDIANS HAVE BEEN AIRBRUSHED EVEN MORE
I consider myself lucky that I grew up with the Global network in Canada - they broadcast a lot of classic British comedy, so Dick was a big part of my childhood (along with Benny Hill, Are You Being Served, On The Buses and other great programs). These clips really bring back some great memories. Thanks!
I love Les Dawson's Sissy & Aide, people always say how wonderful it was, and it was, but I think this from Emery, has arguably more depth, with cleverer dialogue, I could watch Dick do this all day. Thanks for ULing ;-)
I absolutely loved Dick's camp comedy, far from the PC world of today. A world where comedy means the liberal use of expletives, and not the less offensive innuendoes that made up the majority of UK comedy back then.
troikagirl Yes ok, so "Little Britain" may have slipped through the PC net. But the majority of so called comedy today is absolute crap. And, there just isn't much on to choose from either, compared with 60's, 70's and 80's In fact I'm struggling to think of any good old comedy on the box these days. Just endless reality shows, depressing soaps, and not much else to lift our spirits.
Thanks for the posting. What a trip down memory lane. I used to watch this as a kid and loved it-especially "Mandy" and the father and son skinheads. Not PC but very funny!
A spiff selection of life's comedy of people, but would Dick get away with in this day & age with the political correct brigade,i very much doubt it...how times have changed...and not for the better either....bring back the good old comedy days....it sure made life bearable...! Thanks for posting....
Aw,Pat Coombes, gawd bless her! Now,think of how many comics today feel they have to scatter obscenity and swearing throughout their routines in order to acheive the laughs! I'm definitely not a prude, but comedy back then was just as funny,if not funnier in some respects, without all the crap which passes for comedy now.FRANKIE BOYLE,take note!
Interviewer: Now here comes a charming young lady. Mandy: Hello Interviewer: Tell me, are you impressed by aristocratic titles? Mandy: Oh, no. I speak my mind, no matter who I'm talking to. Interviewer: I see, you mean you wouldn't let anyone take advantage of you? Mandy: Pardon? Interviewer: I mean, you wouldn't take things lying down, even from a duke? Mandy: Ooh, you are awful...but I like you!
...'There’s hundreds of fairies on the heath'....Imagine anyone on TV trying to get away with saying that today. How pathetically PC the world has become....

Real comic genius from a simpler time before the world went PC mad. Wonderful stuff. Glad I'm old enough to remember it.

Excellent!...the characters he used to do are so very good 😆
The film ‘ooh you are awful’ with Sid Sabbath is great too 👌🏽😄😄
Dick Emery was one of the BBC's biggest stars in the 70's, but they seem to have airbrushed him out of their history . A disgrace.
Can anyone explain why he has been airbrushed? I agree with you.
Maybe it's political correctness, we don't see much Benny Hill either.

Funny as fuck, unlike today's humourless and crude comedy, censored by the Taliban political correctness squad.

The touching of the perm, the same as Les Dawson's Ada.
I lie to you not. He was a biker, and loved the biker scene.
