I seriously love that no matter what goes wrong you just keep it moving. Cooking, baking, gardening and all the wonderful stuff you do - you show that things don’t always go as planned and you have an awesome outlook.
That is a good idea, I usually put newspaper or cardboard at the bottom of my pots, but the leaf matter would allow for better drainage and the ability for the roots to still escape through drainage holes if I leave them on the ground.
Tip! Pull everything out of the dishwasher and line it on the counter making piles of things that go in the same cabinet and then put them back that way, I know it may sound like it takes longer but it’s actually faster because you aren’t walking back and forth constantly.
if your area is prone to termites, be careful where you stack your wood against your house!! You get so very much done and make me feel like a total slacker!! Love your videos!!!
We live in Georgia and it's not a matter of if you get termites but when. I agree with you, be sure and stack wood away from the house. I also agree about the videos and a slacker...love the community that are built around this channel. Have a great day!
I just love how you and Josh are with each other. He’s logical and methodical where as you are creative and full of zest. He just does pitches in to help wherever you ask. Teamwork makes the dream work!
I set my grow shelves in our garage with grow lights. I added casters to the shelves, so all I have to do is raise the door and roll the entire shelf outside, then right back in at end of day. Such a game changer.
I live in Vancouver, I only have a patio to garden on so all containers for me. This is my second year gardening and I’ve added a bunch of new things this year. I literally just came in from planting everything and after questioning my self on so many things I just told myself “just try it and see what happens” and had your voice in my head the whole time. Felt so empowering! I appreciate you so much ❤️
My apartment gets barely a few hours sun in the morning, so we have a plot at the Heritage Farm. It’s our second year there, and I’m planning my garden for much more productivity this year. Becky and her garden are inspiring. 🧡
In Australia we have carrot, radish and flower seeds impregnated into paper tape which makes planting so easy - no thinning and easy to place into soil 😊
Same in Poland you can buy seed on tape but it is quite expensive but you can buy normal seeds and during winter prepare your own seed tape using toilet paper and as glue mix of potato starch and water really simple and it help a lot with planting small seeds
Becky one of the things I live about watching you is that even when things go wrong or not as planned it never gets you down. You just pivot to something else. Your attitude is so refreshing! Also have you heard of the halo collar? I think that’s what it’s called. Anyway it’s expensive but it’s a collar you can use on your dogs and it uses gps to set up a virtual fence. So it contains your pet inside any perimeter you set. No wires to bury anymore. It’s great because you can use it anywhere, like camping or at the beach etc.
Your garden beds are comimg along nicely. Zinna's are one of my favorite flowers. Every year, I just throw Zinna seeds every where in my garden boxes, around veggies. They attract all kinds if bees, butterflies, and look beautiful in full bloom. The deer actually leave the Zinnia's alone. It is that time of year for cleaning porches. For the life of me, I can't start the power washer. I'm always getting severe charlie horses when pulling the cord. Hubby, last month ordered me an electric SunJoe power washer over the internet(not an expensive one). No more fighting the pull cord, and no more charlie horses.
I absolutely love how Josh has gotten more comfortable with the camera, and I also have loved how you've always been respectful of his privacy and only show him when he's comfortable with it. It's just refreshing to hear a youtuber say "x doesn't want to be on camera, so we won't show x today".
I like to make seed tapes with old newspaper and flour paste. Tear the newspaper into 2" strips and fold in half lengthwise so it's like a gutter. Using a toothpick make dots of paste 1" apart down in the furrow. Pour the seeds over and pour the excess off again. Let thoroughly dry and you can roll them up and store them or just lay them in your row and cover with used coffee or peat moss 1/4 in. deep.
Girl you amaze me with your knowledge of gardening, preserving and cooking food! I really enjoy your videos! I wish I was younger, I would try some of your tips and tricks! I'll just continue to watch you do it! 😄🐔🐓🌺🪴❤
I love watching you in the garden, you’re so industrious! I can’t wait to see something growing over your cattle panel arches, they’ll be beautiful! 😍 & with all the flowers you’re putting in pots, that walkway is going to be a picture 🥰😍 Josh seems like a real sweetie, stopping what he was doing to help you & doing 🧺 too! 👍🥰
I try to catch every single one of your videos! You are so inspirational and motivational. Thanks for showing the world how beautiful homesteading is ❤️!
I'd have a tarp against the house during warmer seasons with that would despite being under roof...termites and other lovely insects. You are going to Love Blue Lake. Don't over water or let them drown. Don't allow drought and watch the leaves for sunburn. Worth the effort. Tender sweet bean. We used to crowd squash around to block direct burn or put some netting over. I hope you can put your feet up. You are like the energizer bunny. Take care
Put one of the empty pots over the zucchini if it's just for the night. Remember to get it off in AM. Also, I wouldn't plant them close together - leave a couple feet at least. The garden is going to look wonderful and the plants will appreciate you providing flowers for the pollinators!
As I sit at my desk plugging away, I've got my ear buds in and listening to your adventures of the day. Thank you for blessing us, with the good and the "speed bumps!" I'd rather be out pulling weeds and mowing grass than here inside any day! And i agree, grow lights are gamechangers! I actually made mine and they've done wonders for my seed starting.
it's so refreshing to watch you after my long day at work and home. You refill me with energy. I love how much you get done and so calmly and instantaneously change plans when things don't go your way!! am so inspired.
You and Kim really got me up and going this morning! Sometimes it's hard to find the motivation to get things done around the house and outside so it's nice to watch these videos and get excited about doing things again
Carrot seed planting-I found if you make a gel of cornstarch and water, let it cool completely, add the carrot seeds, mix thoroughly, put the gel into an old squeeze bottle, squeezes line of carrot seed gel in your furrows. Cover and water. The gel will keep your seeds more hydrated and helps with spacing. Really easy to control your small seed planting.😊
I feel so relieved after hearing you say when you started your snapdragons cause all this time I thought I was the only one who has seedlings that take a long time to grow. Also, a really easy flower to start from seed are mexican sunflowers.
Hey. I just subscribed. Been watching all month. My husband and I live near Salem, Or with our dog and garden. I usually follow Jess at Roots and Refuge. I wanted to say you are so adorable and thank you for sharing your life with youtube. Your Mom snd Dad rock! My step mom and I are about to cook a months worth of dinners because you inspired me! 👀🤩💐
Everytime someone asks me "what's that planted there?" my response "It could be this or that, i'm just not sure but won't it be fun when it fruits or flowers" my grandson (2yo) collected all my markers into a nice pile when he was "helping" in the garden!
Hi Becky, you prompted me to make my first comment ever on RUclips! I've really enjoyed watching your videos for about a year now. Really well done and I love your attitude! There is something however that I hope I can help with. Last year you were a little disappointed in the size of some of your produce. I think your fun way of using up empty spaces with more plants may be to blame. Big plants like cabbage, cauliflower, kale, tomatoes and peppers, etc. need a lot of space! Both to feed from the soil and soak up the sun without competition. Even though it's so tempting to leave volunteers or pop something into little spaces, as those plants grow they will act like weeds to each other, stealing from each other and ultimately stunting each other. No problem having fun and experimenting though. That's how we often learn things. Keep up the good work and enjoy the summer!
You totally remind me of myself. I always wait till the last minute to decide where I'm going to plant stuff. Thank you for taking the time to make videos for us I know how much work it is to film quality content and get stuff done.
Put a clear storage tote or cut the base of a clear water bottle to make shift a green house for the zucchini. Clay pots dry out quickly so you might consider adding drip irrigation to them.
Becky I absolutely love your patio furniture, especially the big sectional! I bet it's really nice and relaxing to sit out there while having a morning cup of coffee!
I put scarlet runner beans in the corners of my trellises because they grow so tall and fast. They get beautiful scarlet red flowers that hummingbirds and pollinators love. Big bang on a trellis.
Your garden is coming along, Becky! You accomplished alot today!!! Way to go! Hope your dinner with family was wonderful. Thanks for sharing how life can be so good. It keeps the dreams alive.
I just love watching you in your garden!! You don't let "rules & regulations" dictate your actions...you truly plant with your heart!!! .... I can't wait to see everything in a few months... It may not be technically perfect but it will absolutely be beautiful!!!!
When you were little did your parents have to repeatedly call you into the house. Love to see that you have a passion for working outside. Warm weather 70’s for the day and recent snow. I’m in central Texas with warmer temperatures. Traveling to Anacortes mid May for a boat show. I thought after watching to check the forecast. Looks like jeans and a jacket. Can’t wait to be on the beautiful west coast. It’s just going to be chilly.
I have not read all comments but a tip...mix your not palletseeds with some white sand . They spread better and you can see where you have been. Or seeds on tape. Have a nice week
Oh I love your property!! My whole apartment would probably fit in your kitchen & pantry, and our outside area is no bigger than your covered patio area. So thank you for utilising all that lovely space on our behalfs!
I used to keep a stash of old bed sheets for covering my young starts (I was always anxious to start the garden…often too early 😂). They would protect the plants from the frost. Maybe on your next thrift store trip you could see if they have any sheets.
You are like my kindred spirit just winging it in the garden! This is my first year and very little research was done before going for it 😂 It’s so much fun though!
I love every minute in your garden with you Becky, We are of to buy Pots because we are both disable and we have moved in to modular home So not much land so pots for the go.Thanks for bringing Light and Joy into my life. Bless you Dee⚘🤗
After watching you, I went outside and got plants in the ground. Most are from seeds I’ve grown for the first time. Thanks for the motivation. It’s gonna be great. So looking forward to this new adventure. Love the way you mix things up. So creative❤️
We love spending time with you in the garden as well. Great video btw regardless of the setback. Looking forward to the pressure washing video it will be such a good satisfaction video to get all the dirt and algae off the concrete.
Becky, Costco has some gutter guards (our Costco has them) They are super easy to install and a game changer.... we have not had to do any maintenance on our gutters since installing them. (Installed them ourselves).
You are such an active person, that's alot of work taking care of all your plants! Can't wait to see the patio sprucing up😊 I like seeing before and afters.
You may be able to make your own pelleted carrot seeds. Make some dirt pellets using egg cartons. In a couple days the dirt with a seed should be hard and solid enough to plant. These dirt pelleted seeds will be easier to place correctly. Or you could use the toilet paper method. Roll out about twenty squares, Place a seed on each square. Rollup into a pinwheel fold side on the bottom. Roll out onto the garden row, mist with water and place dirt on top. Water as needed. The toilet paper will be composted in place.
You're absolutely right about following the "rules" and experimenting. Everyone has different soil, Light, Humidity, Amount of rain, Etc. What works for one person in zone 6b May not work for someone else in the same zone! What works for me may not work for someone 2 doors down from the!
There are always side projects to get done when the plans of the day go sideways. That is why a list is always important. If one item is stopped for some reason, onto the next one. Always moving forward. Great video..
I like the way you 👩🏻🌾garden, I am enjoying it very much so! Because I know there’s someone out there shaking her head thinking girl what are you doing. “She’s doing her thang” the way she wants 🙃, you go girl!👍🏾🥰
I love your channel... I don't have any Yard...I have a balcony... And I live Right by Saltwater So practically nothing grows-That I know about... I need to tell you the truth- I don't know anything about growing anything... But I love things that grow And I'm learning so much about things that I'll never be able to probably ever try but it's just fascinating & Enjoyable Watching you. Thank you so much😻
I seriously love that no matter what goes wrong you just keep it moving. Cooking, baking, gardening and all the wonderful stuff you do - you show that things don’t always go as planned and you have an awesome outlook.
Amen to that!! A ray of sunshine here as I'm stuck in Cubicleworld. 😁
I love how you don't get stressed out when things don't go as planned. You just move on to plan B. Love your channel.
🌱💖🌱💖🌱💖🌱💖🌱
Good afternoon. With your larger pots you can add 6 to 10 inches of wood chips and leaves to the bottom to conserve potting soil
I always do that
Great idea
Good to know!
That is a good idea, I usually put newspaper or cardboard at the bottom of my pots, but the leaf matter would allow for better drainage and the ability for the roots to still escape through drainage holes if I leave them on the ground.
Inwas think the same thing
Tip! Pull everything out of the dishwasher and line it on the counter making piles of things that go in the same cabinet and then put them back that way, I know it may sound like it takes longer but it’s actually faster because you aren’t walking back and forth constantly.
I load my dishwasher in zones of the kitchen. So things are together when I go to one area to put them away. Same idea and saves so much time.
Good idea!
I have a galley kitchen. This is what I do. Makes unloading so much quicker and easier.
Good tip
Wait people actually do it a different way lol?
if your area is prone to termites, be careful where you stack your wood against your house!! You get so very much done and make me feel like a total slacker!! Love your videos!!!
I thought of that as well, try to setup a protected area to stack/store the wood a distance from the house.
Putting a tarp underneath would help definitely don't want termites.
We live in Georgia and it's not a matter of if you get termites but when. I agree with you, be sure and stack wood away from the house. I also agree about the videos and a slacker...love the community that are built around this channel. Have a great day!
We had termites from a little twig in the window well. Our wood pile is covered and in the corner of our yard as far from the house as possible.
I was just about to post that. Buying or building a metal shed to store the wood in would be nice.
I did something similar this year. It definitely has made the hardening off process easier.
So smart!
We now have a new goal. Building the greenhouse so we can roll shelves into them at night and pull them out in the morning. Thank you
Love this! We used to do similar at the greenhouses where I worked. Wish my basement had a walk-out door!
So smart! We are trying to buy a property that has a nice size yard and a garage where I would have room to do this. Thank you for the idea!
Becky, Marigolds and Tomatoes are the BEST of friends. You get no bugs, grubs...nothing. I had tomatoes everywhere and my marigolds did great as well.
I live in Vancouver, I only have a patio to garden on so all containers for me. This is my second year gardening and I’ve added a bunch of new things this year. @@cynthiafisher9907 I’m certain it’s Kim with The Wads. She’s hilarious
I always get more done during the day when I start my day with one of Becky’s videos.

I am in love with Dutch baby pancakes. I got a deep dish cast-iron and it's a total game changer cooking it in the cast iron 🥰

Spring is the busiest time of year for us gardeners but I love it . Looking forward to seeing your gardens in a month or two?
I just love watching you in your garden!! You don't let "rules & regulations" dictate your actions...you truly plant with your heart!!! .... I can't wait to see everything in a few months... It may not be technically perfect but it will absolutely be beautiful!!!!
Always suuuuuperhappy when I see a video from you! 🎉
Your Gorgeous dogs are just like kids lol....how sweet they are
Absolutely Love your programmes no Matter what you do.
Pressure washing is so satisfying! Love doing our patio after a long winter. My husband and I fight over who gets to do it 🤣.
You can both come do mine! Lol
How wonderful Josh knows how to fix things
When you were little did your parents have to repeatedly call you into the house. Love to see that you have a passion for working outside. Warm weather 70’s for the day and recent snow. I’m in central Texas with warmer temperatures. Traveling to Anacortes mid May for a boat show. I thought after watching to check the forecast. Looks like jeans and a jacket. Can’t wait to be on the beautiful west coast. It’s just going to be chilly.

You are so kind to your husband. Sometimes it bothers me how much extra work you do around your home and in your gardens!
Love your relaxed and carefree way of planting. You're so inspiring to us.
Oh I love your property!! My whole apartment would probably fit in your kitchen & pantry, and our outside area is no bigger than your covered patio area. So thank you for utilising all that lovely space on our behalfs!
Your happiness and enthusiasm in your garden is infectious,so lovely to see 💜💜💜
I used paper towels an a flour/water paste to adhere my carrot seeds to the towels.
Zinnia where my Moms fave, we always had them in our yard. Very appropriate timing of this video as Friday will be 23 yrs that she has been gone .
I think pressure washing is one of the most satisfying chores.
Fingers crossed the ground stays warm for he zucchini. You got this, because you are amazing!!
I love watching your videos while cooking, working out at the gym (headphones), etc.. It get's me energized!
Love your energy, creativity, and work ethic!
I put plastic planters or 5 gallon buckets over my less cold hardy plants overnight on cold nights. So far everything has survived and is doing great!
The hori hori knife is the best. Every gardener needs one!
Hi doing great in the garden💖💕💖👍👍👍👌xx

I’m also planting a lot more flowers this year. I’m not great at flowers but we need pollinators. Save the 🐝! Blessings.
Last year I planted in big pot with a tomato cage , it worked wonderful as the cage made them grow upwards. Huge harvest
I love watching your videos. Also love hearing the birds sing in the background while you work. Lovely 😊
IF you leave your arches where you have them Clematis would be so pretty growing up or even perhaps some grapes, you could make your own wine???
I love your channel... I don't have any Yard...I have a balcony... And I live Right by Saltwater So practically nothing grows-That I know about... I need to tell you the truth- I don't know anything about growing anything... But I love things that grow And I'm learning so much about things that I'll never be able to probably ever try but it's just fascinating & Enjoyable Watching you. Thank you so much😻
