    My oldest son (he's now 39) was taking guitar lessons when he was 12. I asked him one day when I picked him up after a lesson what he had learned so far... He played this song for me in the car on the way home. I cried all the way home. He played it so beautifully . I don't think I'll ever forget that moment.

      I would of cried too! I think its one if the best things for kids to learn an instrument. When i was a kid i wanted drums so bad, i thought i was gonna be the female John Bonham! When i woke up Christmas morning in 1980 i was 11 and saw the drums under the tree i was the happiest kid that day. I knew my parents didnt really have the money, my mom was a stay home mom and my dad was a cop, in those days they made crap money, but Santa had a credit card to help them out!

      Cream and Yardbirds were 60's not 70's but I will forgive you since Clapton kept going for so long - lol - it's a joke. Not being serious. Just to let others know when when Cream and Yardbirds were doing their thing. Although Cream did have some reunion shows later. Of course, Jimmy Page created The New Yardbirds that later became Led Zeppelin - but I am not counting that. It is amazing how many great musicians came out of these 60's groups.

    • @jedislap8726
      @jedislap8726 2 года назад +2

      He's called slow hand not for his guitar skills. He was given the nickname because he would spend so long warming up and tuning his guitar that the engineers would get annoyed and gave him that nickname.

    • @MrDiddyDee
      @MrDiddyDee 2 года назад +1

      @@jedislap8726 It was actually when Clapton bust strings on stage, and the audience would get impatient waiting and would give him the slow hand clap. It was Giorgio Gomelsky, who had managed The Yardbirds, that Clapton credits with giving him the nickname. He had always said how fast Eric could play, so it was a bit of a joke, but it also sounded a bit cool, like the nicknames that old blues players would often have.

    Eric Clapton is one of the greatest rock musicians of all time; he has an unbelievably deep catalog of incredible songs, “Layla” electric, “Layla” acoustic, “Tears in Heaven”, are all songs he sings, but he was also one of the greatest guitarists of all time, playing in some of the most important British bands of the 1960s, including The Yardbirds, John Mayal and the Bluesbreakers, and especially Cream. You would really like “Can’t Find My Way Home” which he recorded with the band Blind Faith.

When i read his book he seemed to get bored easily and when a group puts out an album and its a great piece of work , his thing was how do I top that! He didn't want to put out another album if he didn't think he could top the first one. Only a perfectionist thinks like that but its a good thing. Too many groups put out that one great album and spend years trying to top it and never do.

    You need to listen to his song “Tears In Heaven” it’s a song he wrote after his son sadly died when he fell out the window of his high rise apartment. The song is not only him dealing with his son’s death but his worry that due to his past he may not see his son again in Heaven. The song is so heartbreaking by itself but when you know the story behind it you can feel his pain. I can’t hear it without shedding a tear every time so make sure to have Kleenex nearby.

    Pattie Boyd (a.k.a. “Layla”) recounts the details of her life with famous rockers in her autobiography, Wonderful Tonight (called Wonderful Today in the UK). Both George Harrison and Eric Clapton were unfaithful to her. Furthermore, she says that George neglected her in favor of his interest in Indian spirituality, and that when she left and married Eric, the new relationship was troubled by Eric’s addictions. In any case, she sure did inspire some beautiful songs.

    Pattie Boyd was still married to former Beatle George Harrison when Harrison’s friend and fellow rock superstar Eric Clapton met and fell in love with her. After Clapton finally won her over and made her his own wife, he wrote the dreamy smooth ballad “Wonderful Tonight” for her. They say the song was inspired by Clapton watching Boyd one evening getting ready to go out to an annual musical memorial for Buddy Holly. “Wonderful Tonight” can be seen as a sequel of sorts to “Layla”, which Clapton wrote for Boyd when she was still married to Harrison.

    This song was the third song written about Patti Boyd. The first was “Something” by The Beatle written by George Harrison who she was married to and is a phenomenal song.
    George and Eric were great friends and wrote songs together and Eric was the first artist to record on a Beatles track that was not in the band. He performed the lead guitar on While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
    Eric fell madly in love with Patti and wrote one of his best songs ever while he was in Derek and the Dominoes “Layla” and she eventually divorced George and married Eric.
    Dispute this George and Eric remained close friends until George’s passing.

      That was a seriously messed up time. Eric was openly in love with George's wife, depressed and binge drinking and drugging, while George was married to but being unfaithful to Patti and openly declared his love for fellow Beatle Ringo's wife---in front of Ringo and Patti.
      Somehow, in the end, George and Eric remained friends, and George and Ringo got past it to remain friends and even work together several times. All three remained good friends until George's death. George and Ringo both ended up divorced from their first wives and remarried, (presumably more successfully the 2nd time around since they stayed married) and Eric and Patti's marriage also ended in divorce after a few years.

    Oh you have to hear his song No More Tears in Heaven . It’s his song about his son Connor passing away tragically. My ex wanted it played at our sons funeral. I couldn’t do it , that’s was his song for his son . My son loved Eric Clapton . I just wanted songs that where connected to us as a family . Yes it was selfish I guess but his Bio logical sperm donor wasn’t in his life . My husband my sons dad was there from 14 months to the end 27 1/2 years later and still today in his memory .
    Edit-- oh my husband and I have our spot outside we used to have lots of backyard spur of moment parties . Our son would play his guitar and we would sing laugh . Now it’s just us. Our sons friends stop by and we talk about all their memories here at the house , and we thank god we have the memories . Keep that spot sacred for you two and as kids grow older more memories to be made . Stories to be told , great conversations to be held between y’all and the kids , and their friends .

    This song is one of my favorites. Thank You. May I suggest - "Tears in Heaven" About the death of his son. I have trouble listing to it as I have my own tragedy with the death of my 3 month old grandson. “Layla” Was written for George Harrison Wife. Clapton was in love with her then eventually married her. You can chose between studio or an acoustic version of Layla. I recommend both as they both have their merits. Other people have been suggesting other good songs which I can 2nd. You can look up the story behind each song.
